High Fiber Foods
Question: Can I get fat by eating a lot of high fiber foods? I've heard that fiber does not contain any calories because it is not absorbed by the body. Is this true? That would mean I can eat high fiber foods all day?
Answer: Yes, because high fiber foods still have calories and weight is gained by consuming more calories than your body expends. That said, high fiber foods (whole grains, vegetables, etc) are extremely good for your body and your digestion track. Many of them also contain fewer calories than processed foods with simple carbohydrates/sugars.
Question: Any advice about low calorie high fiber foods for this summer? I don't want to be bloated but I want to stay regular... but I hear some high fiber foods really cause belly bloat. Also any foods to stay away from, that cause constipation?
Answer: Anything that's fatty or packed with protein is usually low in fiber, such as diary products and meats (which don't usually contain any fiber).
Eat whole grains. If you like cereal shredded wheat (which comes in a ton of different flavors) and raisin bran are great options. Many fruits are also a good source of fiber such as strawberries, apples, and pears. Whole grain breads are also a good option for fiber.

Question: What are some high fiber, high soluble fiber foods? Trying to lose weight, told to eat more fiber, but not exactly sure what all that entails..someone have a good idea
Answer: beans, carrots, oats, apples and also take some psyllium husks in the morning with water
Question: Can you lose weight by watching calories and eating high fiber foods?
Answer: well you have to do a little more than watching the calories... 'cause i know i sometimes sit on the couch and just watch them come in the form of doritos without thinking twice!
but anyways, your body's weight is limited by laws of science, so in fact, calories in vs calories out is the main factor as to your weight fluctuations (other than water retention).
so, what does this mean? well... you have two sides of the equation you can manipulate to make your calories in be less than your calories out (which would in turn make you lose weight). First, you can decrease calories in. Second, you can increase calories out.
but before you start cutting back on a diet and thinking you'll lose weight, remember this: if you take in less calories than you exert, guess what kind of weight your body will likely lose first? the answer is: muscle weight! your body likes to go this order in choosing what to burn as extra energy: carbs, proteins, then fats. your body can go through the carbs rather quickly, and then hit the proteins. now it will hit a little bit of fat simultaneously as well, but you will proportionately lose quite a bit of muscle as opposed to fat.
now here's the dilemma... the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn during activities! so by losing muscle weight by reducing calories in, you then start reducing calories out as well... it's a sick cycle. so then, how the heck do you lose fat?
well, simple answer is... you have to exercise--weight training and other anaerobic exercise is crucial for this purpose--in order to maintain muscle mass!
so hopefully the term "diet and exercise" will begin to make a bit more sense than just two dull words jammed together.

Question: Will drinking protein shakes and high fiber foods help my hunger? im trying to lose weight, i heard a fiber and protein keeps u full and satisfied longer so if i drink whey protein shakes, high fiber cereal, whole wheat bread and fruits will i lose weight
Answer: Yes, fiber will help you feel fuller, longer. Protein helps by supplying your body with a longer-term fuel. Carbs burn up faster so eating bread will satisfy for a while, but then you will be hungry again. Some folks use protein drinks as meal replacements because they can get all kinds of nutrients in veggies (mixed like a V8) or fruits and mix them with protein and fiber powder to make you feel fuller longer. This will also help your cholesterol!
Be sure you are using a high quality, chemical free whey!

Question: Weight Watchers-high fiber foods? Also, adding that fiber powder to foods - does that really help? I am just starting Weight Watchers so I am trying to get more fiber into my diet.

Usually you can get a whole days worth of fiber (25g for a women) very quickly just by eating some cereal, fruit and a fiber one bar. Be warned though, if your system is not used to allot of fiber, you may experience some discomfort and, uh.....gas. Good luck with the Weight Watchers!!
