Infection
Question: INfection? I had a ingrown toe nail that I messed with turned to a hangnail slash mutilated cuticle. I think it is infected, Ie red inflamed, and swollen all the way to my big toe knuckle. Just wondering if antibiotic oint will cure an infection in the works
Answer: Go to a podatrist and have him/her take care of it. It sounds pretty nasty right now to deal with it yourself.
Question: infection? Been told not yeast infection had many creams and pills 5 doctors and they dont kno what it is. White looking substance itches terrible. Never goes away gets somewhat better for a few days . What type of dr do I need to see any advice to what it is? I am 58 and not sexualy active for fear of spreadding. red sores and itching then the white stuff. painfull to uriinate . had this for at least 9 yrs
Answer: Sound like a urinary infection, actually it sounds like a pretty bad one. While the sores are not common, it could be that the infection started in the skin and has spread into the urethra and into the bladder. Pain is a common effect of urination during and infection and could also indicate where the infection resides. The "white stuff" could be puss that is draining from the infection.
A regular doctor could run a UA/CS which is a urine analysis and culture and sensitivity.
I have seen many people come back with negative results despite having an infection so INSIST that it is run multiple times should it come back negative.
Question: How can an infection in the throat or nose lead to a middle ear infection? How can an infection in the throat or nose lead to a middle ear infection? Like, are they connected some way? I know there's a tube that connects the throat and ear, is that how? What can a middle ear infection do? Is there a way to prevent something from happening to your middle ear if it is infected?
We were reading about this in biology class, but the teacher and book didn't really explain it well.
Answer: A tube named eustachian tube connects the middle ear with the nasal passages and the throat. It helps balance air pressure in the middle ear with that in the environment. In older children and adults, the tube is relatively vertical, wide, and rigid, and secretions that pass into it from the nasal passages drain easily. In infants and younger children, the eustachian tube is more horizontal, narrower, less rigid, and shorter. Thus, the tube is more likely to become blocked by secretions and to collapse, trapping the secretions in or close to the middle ear and preventing ventilation of the middle ear (that is, blocking air from reaching it). Also, the secretions may contain viruses or bacteria, which multiply and cause infection. Or viruses and bacteria can move back up the short eustachian tube of infants, causing middle ear infections.
At about the age of 6 months, infants become more susceptible to infection because they lose protection from their mother's antibodies, which they received through the placenta before birth. Breastfeeding appears to partially protect children from ear infections because breast milk contains the mother's antibodies.
Question: Can an infection go from your throat to your ears to your eyes? How are they connected? This is the second time where I've started with a bad sore throat that caused bad ear pain followed by dual swollen eye infections. So over the course of ~3 days I have a head full of infections.
Can an infection migrate through your head this way? It really feels like this is what it's doing. Thanks for your help.
Answer: your eyes are connected indirectly to your nose. tha circuit goes like this: mouth-throat-nose- tear cannal - eye.
Question: What yeast infection medication cover the counter can i use while pregnant? I've been on an antibiotic for a cold for about a week now and i got a yeast infection from it i know its a yeast infection because ive had many before. I'm 28 weeks pregnant i was wondering if there was any OTC yeast infection creams i can use while pregnant? I've tried making an Same day appt with my OB doctor but can't get one till next week and i need something to help me now. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Answer: In the U.S., any of the over-the-counter stuff is perfectly safe to take. Monistat or the off-brand with the same active ingredient is most often recommended. Just a thought, in pregnancy the one-time dose stuff often does not work, you end up needing a longer dose. So I would recommend trying the 3-day stuff and seeing if that does it.
Question: What are some signs of infection after wisdom tooth removal? Well I had a wisdom tooth taken out 5 days ago. The pain got worse for the next 3 days and then gradually decreased and today it's not bad at all. I have no swelling whatsoever. However, I had some chills and fever last night. I wonder if it's a tooth infection or some other infection. When I get chills and fever like that it means I have some kinda infection. Am I supposed to have more dental symptoms if i had a tooth infection?
Answer: A really bad taste in your mouth would be an indication. Listerine might help some.
Question: How long for a skin infection to clear? I had a small infection of the hair folicle several weeks ago that seemed to blow up into a bigger infection. I saw a doctor and he prescribed a 7-day oral antibiotic (Keflex) and said to use OTC antibiotic ointment (Polysporin) and a thick bandage. I've been doing this and it has been a week now. The infection looks better but there is still some minor leakage that can be seen when changing the bandage.
Does these infections normally take more than a week to clear? Or would this mean that the antibiotic isn't working very well and need something stronger?
Answer: A staph infection of the skin (which is most likely the organism) can take 7 to 14 days to clear, typically. But it depends on the severity of the infection, how big it is, and the type of staph being dealt with.
Since it seems to be responding to anti-biotics, it is probably working but it will just take another week or so. But you can ask the doctor to be sure. The oral antibiotic will most likely not clear the infection on its own. That is more as a precaution to prevent the infection from spreading deeper into the tissue. So he will probably tell you to continue the topical antibiotic for another week. If it still hasn't cleared by then, he will probably need give you a stronger topical anti-biotic
Question: Can a yeast infection escalate to a cervical infection if left untreated? Or are they different? I've had both before, but can a yeast infection turn into a cervical infection if left untreated? Or are they different things?
Answer: They are different things, however...
Candida, the microorganism that creates a yeast infection, can spread. Although it may not cause a Cervical infection by definition, it can cause cervical irritation if it gets bad enough.
Candida is one of the most widely overlooked epidemics of this country. It is blood-soluble so if a yeast infection is left untreated, it can spread anywhere.
Most common areas of infection for yeast infections are:
1. The vagina or penis
2. The lower digestive tract
3. The prostate in males
4. The brain (causes a symptoms known as brain fog)
Question: What causes a bacterial infection and can it keep you from concieving? My husband and I started TTC in August, and when I started bleeding, I assumed it was my period. However, I spotted for about 2 weeks, and for about 2 days of that, I was bleeding severely. I started thinking maybe I had a miscarriage and made an appointment with my gyno. When I went in, he did a pelvic exam and said I had a bacterial infection and gave me some antibiotics. He said the spotting and the heavy bleeding was probably due to the infection.
What could have caused the bacterial infection? And could that have been the reason I didn't concieve, even though we had sex when I was ovulating?
Answer: Many women get bacterial infections.
Our vaginas are full of bacteria that are helpful to us, and sometimes this balance goes awry.
I get frequent bacterial vaginosis, it is just something that I deal with when it happens.
It often takes longer than one month to have a baby.
NORMAL, health couples are told to expect it to take up to one full year.
Question: How long does yeast infection medication take to fully work? I was prescribed pms-Fluconazole for a yeast infection (a pill you take once) and I took it on Tuesday. The package says that the symptoms should be gone within a couple days, and they are, but it does not say how long it takes to completely get rid of the infection. I know you shouldn't have sex while you have a yeast infection so you don't pass it back and forth and am wondering if I am clear for intercourse again or how long I should wait. Any advice would be great.
Answer: The information should come on the packaging or the instruction sheets for your prescription. You could always call the pharmacy- you don't have to give your name, and they would be the best ones to answer that question. Or call your doctor. If it was me, I would definitly wait a week from the time I started the medicine. But I am not a doctor, I can't give you the appropriate advice.
Question: Can a yeast infection affect when you start your period? I've had a yeast infection for the past couple days and I've been treating it with Clotrimazole to kill the fungus. What's weird is that I've had symptoms for my period for the psat week now, and I haven't started yet. Could this be a result of my yeast infection?
Answer: I've had more yeast infections than I can count and a yeast infection has never effected when I start my period.
Question: Dog has Yeast Infection How can i cure it? My dog has a yeast infection and I don't have enough money to take it to a vet. Are there any home remedies or shampoos that I can use to cure the yeast infection? Thank you.
Answer: first of all where is the yeast infection at? If it is on the body of the dog you can use over the counter monistat 7. I have used the inserts in one of my dogs I know that sounds grose but I have used it for 3 days cut it into 3rds or forths and inserted it into the uritheria. At the same time I bought yougart over the counter vanilla, lemon things that they will eat that have no berries or choclate. do yougart twice a day like two table spoons depending on how big the dog is. I did this together for a week and had no problems with her health. It was a cocker spanial. I found out though that she would get better for a few months no redness or swelling and it would come back due to the food we were giving her. We changed her diet to purina one lamb and rice and once a week give her yougart for good measure and had no more problems. If it is on the out side on the skin bath the dog like everyother day I know this can be tiring but after she is clean and dry apply monistat 7 cream to the areas and use it for a week but you must make sure that she is clean when applying the oil on the skin doesn't allow it to penitrate the skin very well and can take longer and more cream. Anyway I did this to two different dogs and the monistate suggestion came from a vet. One last thing if your still unsure what to do. call your local animal rescue foundation they usually have a vet that comes in to treat animals in there area free of charge you just have to pay for the meds like if they need a rabies shot you have to pay for the shot not the vet and they can give you advice too for free most people don;t know this I actually found this out myself anyway i hope this helps.
Question: When my yeast infection goes away will I start to loose weight easier? I have had a butterfly chest yeast infection a while now and it is going away with the help of medicines called Threlac and some other kind of powder. I have also had some weight gain which is in part due to some medicines I have taken. If my yeast infection goes away will that help reduce my weight?
I mean like it's shaped like a butterfly across my chest. It is going away. :) Just really slowly.
Answer: Yeah you will lose the weight, once you get off the medication.
But, more importantly, instead of using over the counter meds which only suppresses the bacteria for a while before it attacks again, I think its better to understand why you got the infection in the first place.
Some of the food that we eat on a daily basis causes the dormant bacteria to become active!!
Question: Can a combined yeast infection and bladder infection cause a delay in your period? I have a yeast infection and a bladder infection! My period was due around last week, but that's also when both of my infections had started. (The bladder infection could have started earlier.) I heard that a yeast infection usually doesn't delay your period, but what about both of them combined?
I'm taking medication for both of them now as well.
Answer: I was always told that too. That a yeast infection never delays a period and blah blah blah blah.
Ok, I've had about 4-5 if not more yeast infections and EVERY TIME it has delayed my period. I'm pretty convinced it does.
Question: Homeopathic yeast infection pills have yeast in them? How does that work? I actually am pretty sure I have bacterial vaginosis, but I got Nature's Cure homeopathic yeast control pills because they have yeast in them, which I figured would help. but it got me wondering... how in the heck is it supposed to work for a yeast infection??? I've seen other brands of remedies labeled "homeopathic" with candida yeast as a main ingredient, as well, so it's not just Nature's Cure being weird.
Answer: Homeopathy is based on the idea of curing illnesses etc. by taking what you are actually trying to cure ( a bit like the way vaccines work ). What you need to take is a probiotic with acidophilus and similar organisms. They are brilliant at preventing yeast infections if you are on antibiotics.
I don't know how effective homeopatic remedies are for yeast infections. I know they can be quite effective for some problems but it always sounds weird to me the way they are supposed to work.
Question: How do I treat an adult ear infection at home? I have some antibiotic ear drops from the doctor, but what else can I do to help clear up my ear infection? Also, how long does an ear infection typically last? I'm a 31-year-old female who's never had an ear infection!
Answer: Supprisingly ear infections can be viral as well as bacterial. If you have allergy symptoms as well your ear tubes may not be draining and you need a decongestant. If your ear infection has a fever or is getting worse and not better then you probably need an oral antibiotic.
If they gave you topical antibiotic drops then the infection may be localized to the drun or external canal though some drops absorbe well through the drum.
If the physician thinks it may be viral then tylenol or motrin for the pain combined with ear drops.
Some people use warm (to body temprature) clove oil drops in the ear as a pain releiver. They should not be used at the same time as the antibiotic drops and you should consult with your physician to make sure that they wont cause more harm than good.
