Led Lighting
Question: What is the best source for led lighting design technical information? I am interested in looking at the potential for use of led lighting as part of lighting improvements to an interior space. In addition to led lighting manufacturers on the internet, what are the best sources for technical information?
Answer: C Crane in Calif. Tech support & info on their latest bulbs- GeoBulbs, made in USA (but still high cost).
Question: Is it possible for LED lighting to replace conventional lighting? LED lighting uses much less electricity than normal lighting, doesn't it? So, why isn't it used instead of conventional lighting?
Answer: They are starting to come out with it now - it is fairly expensive though as it is new technology. And yes, you're right it uses very little electricity compared to conventional bulbs and even CFL's.
Question: How to solve LED's disadvantage for general lighting purpose? current LED screw-in light bulbs offer either low levels of light at a moderate cost, or moderate levels of light at a high cost. In contrast to other lighting technologies, LED light tends to be directional. some current models of LED are not compatible with standard dimmers. It is not currently practical to produce high levels of room lighting.
Answer: It is even worse. They don't save any money in the winter.
The excess heat of an incandescent goes into heating the house lowering the heat load on the furnace. Install a CFL or an LED and you will have to increase the input energy to the furnace. The net savings is ZERO or near zero...
The reason the LED is having such a problem in "going public" is in the nature of its waste heat. The waste heat of the incandescent mostly radiates away as infrared. Also, the incandescent loves heat - the hotter it gets the better it works (up to a point).
The LED radiates little heat and so ALL excess heat has to be removed by conduction and convection. To make matters worse LED's don't do well at even moderately elevated temperatures.
But the real problem is now upon us. GE has introduced a high priced LED 120V bulb that emitts 100 lumens for a input power of 4 Watts. THAT IS ONLY 25 Lumens per Watt. An incandescent gets 15 lumens per Watt and costs next to nothing. It is a major Rip Off.
The LAB power record for an LED is ten times that number at 250 lm/W. It is easy to buy power LEDs at 100lm/W. There are some 120V screw-in bulbs available at 60 lm/W. GE is going to put a really bad taste in peoples mouth for LEDs. How does GE justify an LED light that gets the same efficiency as a halogen light gets.
Question: Best and cheap under cabinet led lighting product for my kitchen? Anyone knows what the best and cheap under cabinet led lighting product for my kitchen?

Question: Does LED lighting work for artificial plant light? I am growing some herbal plants that require a delicate balance of lights and nutrients. Unfortunately it's not always sunny where I from, so I grow indoors. I setup a LED blue/red 255 tiny light system 12x12 inch over the small flat of rosemary/chives...etc. How close should it be and will it be effective? I want first hand experience.
Answer: I start my plants (herbs, vegetables, etc.) every year in the house using plant lights, this year I switched to the "daylight" bulbs instead of the more pricey "plant and aquarium" bulbs, and they seem to be working just fine. The LED lighting won't work. I set my lamps about 8 inches above my seedlings and adjust as they grow.
Question: Where can I find good quality warm white LED lighting? I am looking for good quality LED lighting with a good output. I appreciate that i may not be able to change all of my lighting to LED at the moment but I would like to have as much as possible?
Answer: I used a company in Edinburgh for my kitchen and bathroom lighting.www.ottimolighting.com and the scheme they put together is completely LED and energy efficient. Your best bet would be to contact them on 0131 226 4750 and speak to one of the lighting consultants. Hope this helps.

Question: I looking for a lighting bulb based on LED? Any idea about commercials solutions? My friend and I interested in various commercial products for home use as a replacement for regular light bulb, our preferred solution is that it should be based on LED technology.
The perfect thing will be to find a light bulb that is in fact a LED light and can fit any location without any modification, just buy and install.
Answer: Try this link: http://www.atgelectronics.com/
I've used a lot of their equipment before for a variety of projects.
Do remember that LEDs can't be dimmed and aren't going to be as bright as their incandescent and fluorescent counterparts, -they're also quite expensive.
Is this for environmental reasons or effects?

Question: How many and what watts LED ceiling light is needed to provide same lighting of 2 tube lights ? Room size is 14 x 14 feet. Also how to acheive diffuse lighting rather than spot lighting by these LED?
Answer: Impossible/impractical! LED lamps have a long way to go to match the lumen output of tungsten or fluorescent lighting. In a room of this size you would need possibly 20 - 30, 4 watt led lamps. However you don't state the current wattage of the 'tubes' or the light level required or the ceiling height??!!
Question: what's the best way to install led strip lighting outside a 2004 durango? I'm trying to install some led strip lighting on a 2004 Durango but I don't know where to splice it. I tried the headlight harness but the wires are so tightly wound up together that I can't get splicer connector inside. Is there anywhere else I can splice it where so they come on when I turn on headlight/running lights? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer: come off the parking light relay on it that will make them work and it will be lot safer to wire them like this, you,ll need more wire though but that will keep them on a fused circuit, you could also wire them separately to a lighted switch that is powered off the the power junction box under the hood, just make sure you use an in line fuse with them, those are low voltage lights anyway so a 5 amp fuse will work fine with them,my nephew has them on his neon and we came off the relay under the hood for his, they work great wired like that, its much safer to,its easier of you can get a bare spot though to wire them in on the closest wire you can find on the park light circuit, good luck.
