Long Life
Question: What is the difference between living a long life and living a relatively long life? I've seen where people have said that Senator Edward M. Kennedy, 77, lived a relatively long time and am having trouble understanding just what the difference between living a long life and living a relatively long life is. Age 77 is below the US current figure for average life expectancy anyway so anything below that seems premature. Answer this for me, please.
Answer: it means that he lived a fairly long life when compairing the average age of death for humans.
Question: How do I ensure a long life for my new budgie? I just got a budgie bird and I already love him :). I want to make sure he has a long life. Any tips on care or any interesting facts on budgies are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Answer: Budgies are easy to fall in love with. I'm glad you want to give your budgie the best life possible. Some things you can do to help your budgie live longer are:
1. Take your budgie for regular (yearly) avian vet check-ups. Budgies are good at hiding illness, so your budgie could be ill and you wouldn't know it. This way you'll know if there's any illness and it can get caught early enough to treat it. When people wait until their budgie is very ill, the budgie has more of a chance of dying or not getting better.
2. Give your budgie a well-balanced diet. Fruits, veggies, and calcium are required to help maintain good health. Budgies need many of the same nutrients we do, and their bodies will stay healthy longer with the right foods. Some excellent foods for budgies are broccoli (calcium), corn, carrots (vitamin A and beta carotene), bananas (potassium), grapes, blueberries, watermelon, cantaloupe (high in vitamin A), spinach (iron). They can also eat apples, apricots, pears, peaches, kale, yams, sweet potatoes, and kiwi. Make sure all foods are fresh. You can cut up the food and put it in a bowl or clip some foods, like brocolli, to the side of the cage. Serve anything cooked at room temperature.
3. Avoid exposing your budgie to anything toxic, including foods. Foods to avoid are avocado, rhubarb, chocolate, caffiene, raw potatoes, alcohol, any high-salt foods, tomato leaves, onions, and mushrooms. In addition, don't expose your budgie to any Teflon products, such as non-stick cookware, self-cleaning ovens, portable space heaters, and some other products. Any type of aerosols, perfume, candles, plug-ins, cigarette smoke, are also harmful for your budgie. Get a carbon monoxide detector so you can be sure you can your budgie are safe.
4. Give your budgie some play time. Let him have a few toys in his cage and some outside of the cage, like a playgym. If you have a male budgie, they love looking at themself in the mirror. Let your budgie out of the cage for at least 30-60 minutes each day and interact with it. Give it lots of love and attention.
5. Get your budgie's wings and nails clipped as soon as you can. Wing clipping and nail clipping can be done by an avian vet or you can get it done at a local pet store or Petland. Petco and Petsmart don't trim wings or claws. You want your budgie's wings clipped so it doesn't fly into any objects in your house and become injured or killed. Also, if you open the door or are outside with your budgie, it could easily fly off and escape. It's mainly a safety issue. Same goes for clipping the budgie's nails. Nails can get too long and start getting caught in some materials, like carpeting on the floor. Some budgies have injured theirselves and even broken legs or feet trying to free a claw that is stuck in something. That's why nail clipping is so important. Another reason it's important is that your budgie will have a hard time perching if its nails are too long.
6. Read up on anything and everything you can about budgies. There is so much information on many topics on budgies on the internet, in boooks and magazines, even on t.v. Always keep reading and learning new things all the time.
7. Be familiar with the signs of illness in budgies. For example, laying at the bottom of the cage, sneezing too much, runny cere, wheezing, trouble breathing, tail bobbing, sleeping too much, lethargy, a fluffed up appearance (they do this to maintain body heat), constipation, diarrhea, loss of appetite, scaly face or feet, weight loss, and not singing or talking anymore are some of the more frequent signs to look out for. If your budgie appears ill, it would need to be seen by an avian vet as soon as possible.

Question: What is the secret of your cat´s long life? For those of you that own a short hair domesicated cat-what is the secret of his/her long life?
My cat is 10 years old, my best friend, and lately, I have been thinking about what I´m going to do when he dies-I am crying right now, because he keeps me company during the day when my husband is at work, and cuddles with me at night.
Answer: I had my cat put down in March this year aged 15. He had a galloping heart murmur and hyperthyroidism which led to renal failure. I don't think there was a secret to his 15 years, but he was extremely spoilt. He lived inside for the last 5 years of his life and generally got his own way. He was my baby. He'd gone through so much with me, he was my confidant, my tissue, my hot water bottle, my source of laughter and love. Just make sure you love him as much as you can, he will return it 10 fold.

Question: How do I make sure my Cat lives a long and healthy life? I feed her one of the best foods I get from the pet store,
She has her vacinations and checkups up to date.
She is also spayed!!
I give her My Love and attention when she wants it.
Am I missing anything out? If so please let me know? I want her to live a long life!
I do keep her inside, I never let her out!
Answer: I think you have just about got it all covered. Just make sure she gets lots of physical and mental stimulation through playing with her regularly. Brush and comb her daily to prevent the build up of hairballs. Make sure she drinks plenty of water and offer mostly wet food, dry food makes the digestive system work too hard and can cause constipation. Avoid feeding her scraps or human foods. And finally examine her body and teeth regularly in between visits to the vet. Make sure the home is safe and be sure that any flowers or plants you have are not poisonous. Apart from these you are doing a great job! So well done.
Question: how long is the life expectency of some one who has ventricular tachycardia? Is there anyway to live a long life with this condition? Should I be worried about my future?
Answer: Ventricular Tachycaria (VT) is the leading cause of sudden cardiac death. However it is treatable with medications and the use of implantable defibrilators (ICD) which are very effective in recognizing and treating VT. With an ICD people can live healthy until something else comes along to take their lives instead. I wish you all the blessings in the world.

Question: What can a young adult do to live a long and healthy life? What are soem things a young adult can do to live a long life?
I mean like in you 20's not teens. lol.
Answer: My mom's been teaching me and my siblings about being healthy for a long time. One of the most important things she's taught us is GO NATURAL. Try to eat as much natural and organic foods as possible.
Don't use artificial sweeteners such as Splenda. No matter what they tell you, plain old sugar is always better than an artificial sweetener because of the aspertame in it. Aspertame is bad! It's in most gum and low calorie drinks.
Try not to use a microwave a lot. We don't even have one anymore. Have you heard not to stand to close to a microwave while it's cooking something? Well, don't eat it then, cuz it's just as bad!
Use natural toothpaste and deodorant.
And exercise. It's probably the most important way to keep you feeling young and healthy.
Question: What should i feed and/or do to my red ear slider to make sure it has a healthy long life? I have a 10 gallon tank for my turtle. He is about 3 years old and about 4 to 5 inches long. I have been feeding him pellets so far and he seems to be healthy. He also has a resting place but he never goes on it. I am afraid he will get soft shell. What can i do to help him live a healthy happy life?
Answer: 1. The right-sized tank. Turtles should have at least 10 gallons of swimming space per inch of turtle- in other words, yous should be in about a 50 gallon tank, tub or kiddie pool. This allows you many improvements- water stays cleaner, turtle gets more exercise, etc.
2. Warmed basking sites- heat some basking areas up to about 90 and offer some full-spectrum sunlight-like lighting, including some Ultra-violet (especially UV-B)
3. Offer some supplimental foods, like small fish, bugs, crickets, worms, and dark leafy greens.
4. Softshell is mostly a result of calcium and other nutrients deficency. UV-B lighting helps, and a good diet is key, but staying in the water is not a huge issue by itself- but you do want to correct that.
5. Consider an outdoor pond, at least part-time.

Question: Whats more important a long life or a fun one? all this stuff about how things shorten ur life span, a few decades ago we were only expected to live until 60, centuries ago 40s were a bonus! so why this sudden obsession with living until we are 90? making sure of a long life by not drinking, smoking, etc etc - why not just enjoy it while we're here and stop worrying?
Answer: It's great to have a long life, as you don't die as fast. But you're still going to die anyway, there's no stopping it. I say that having a fun life is more important. People always say to live life to the fullest, and have a lot of fun.
It's more better to enjoy life as we can right now, since we only have 1 life. Better to enjoy life than to live long and not have fun.
