Multi-vitamin
Question: multi-vitamin? when is the best time to take a multi-vitamin, after dinner or after breakfast?
Answer: With a meal - any meal. Don't take it before bed if it has a B complex. B vitamins give energy and can keep you awake.
Question: Multi-Vitamin? what is a good multi-vitamin that would help a runner and also my health, that I could buy at a drug store or at Safeway? I am looking for the name of a product or brand.
Answer: Any multi-vitamin should be fine--especially if you already eat a balanced diet.
For running you would want something with iron, folic acid and B12 which your body uses to make red blood cells. Every MV should have 100% of those.
Centrum Daily is very good, but the Safeway brand multi-vitamins are also fine.
Question: multi vitamin?
Answer: ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ♪♫ ♪♫ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Once you take a vitamin pill, you start destroying natural balances in your body, which leads to disease. Get nutrients from food—good, raw, organic food--green sunflower sprouts (and other sprouts), wheat grass, veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds and whole grains.

Question: What is the best multi-vitamin for a 25 year old female with low iron? I have been on iron pills for a couple of months. I have been advised by my doctor to switch to a multi-vitamin because my levels are now back to normal. What is a good multi-vitamin for me that will keep my levels up without the side effects of iron pills (ie constipation)? The multi-vitamin must be available in Canada.
Answer: one a day women's formula. :)
and try to eat iron rich foods like lentils, dark green leafy veggies (kale, collard greens etc), and use an iron-skillet for cooking as much as possible. :)
Question: What is a good multi vitamin to take for a person born without a thyroid? I am trying to get healthier. I read that I should be taking a multi vitamin and I purchased Womens One a Day weight smart but am reading some negative things about that. Any other suggestions? Yes, I know I should talk to a doctor but I dont have insurance lol and well, this is free.
Answer: since most thyroid meds and problems cause a leaching of calcium from the bones, you should be taking somthing that has calcium in it also. and since calcium is absorbed better with a higher red blood cell count, iron would be wise to since it helps women keep their RBC's in the proper ranges. additionally, thyroid problems tend to make the skin dry and hair brittle so some vit E would be wise. adding a litte extra protein to your diet will help too. just remember that iron tends to constipate so lots of water and extra fruits and veggies too.
Question: What is the Best chewable Multi-Vitamin for a medium sized dog? I am just wondering if anyone on here gives there dogs multi-vitamins as I'm wanting to give my dog a multi vitamin that contains a lot of vitamins that she needs to keep her healthy and strong. She is a lab mix - anyone have any ideas on any really good chewable multi-vitamins for adult dogs?
Answer: Er, leave off the multi-vitamin and feed her good dog food instead - something like Merrick, EVO, Wellness, Canidae, Taste of the Wild, Chicken Soup for the Dog's Soul, Fromm's, Artemis, Blue Buffalo, Orijen, etc. (Or you could do raw feeding as an alternative.)
There's no need to take vitamins unless one has a vitamin deficiency (and your dog won't if she's fed good quality food) and they may actually be bad for us. A lot of studies suggest that taking vitamins in pill form helps to cause cancer. Human studies of course, but whatever affects humans probably affects dogs, too.
The only supplement you may need to give your dog is a glucosamine one, and only if she is of a certain age.
Question: Is taking a multi vitamin just as significant as eating the actual foods where the nutrients come from? should i be doing something more i always thought when in doubt take a multi vitamin. anyone agree or disagree?
Answer: It is most always better to eat the actual foods. But in reality it is good to take a supplement. Some nutrients are hard to get in sufficient amounts in food without eating a large number of calories, Like calcium. Of course you will not get enough calcium from a multi either. The rda for calcium ranges from 800 to 1500 mg per day. The easiest way to get that is to chew a couple of Rolaids with a meal, once or twice a day.
I take a multi called Daily Multiple from Twinlab. You can get it only at a health food store. It is expensive ($17.00) but has most all of the vitamins and minerals in sufficient amounts. Men should take the version without iron. Women under 50 and teenagers should take the with iron version.
I also take extra calcium/magnesium in the form of Rolaids. I take extra vit C to help ward off infections, especially in the winter.
If at all possible , eat a healthy diet, which includes lots of veggies, and a high fiber cereal, whole wheat bread, beans & peas, for fibre and protien, Avoid large amounts of red meat, and fried or fatty foods.
Shop around for breads and cereals you like ,as some taste like cardboard, and some are good.
If you can't afford an expensive vitamin, You can get a generic form of Centrum for $2.00 at Dollar General Stores. It is nowhere as good as the twinlab ,but is better than the usual drugstore vitamins.
Question: What is a good multi-vitamin for someone who is trying to lose weight? I'm not looking for a weight loss pill. And I also don't want to take the one-a-day weight smart multi-vitamin because I heard it gives you headaches and I suffer from really bad migraines. I just want a regular multi-vitamin that will provide me with all the vitamins I need, especially since I'm cutting down on calories and I might miss out on some essential nutrients. I was thinking of taking Centrum but I wanted to see what other people have experienced.
Answer: go to hugenutritionmall.com it has all kinds of stuff that you can take that are good for you from weight loss to just trying to be healthy. He helped me out a lot and you can also email him and he will let you know whats best for you.
Question: What is a good, natural multi-vitamin that isn't too expensive? I really want to start taking a multi-vitamin again, but the best ones are so expensive! For a while I was taking New-Chapter Organic's women's one daily, and it worked REALLY well, but it's also REALLY expensive, and since I am on a tight budget I feel bad buying those. Does anyone know of another good multi-vitamin that I can get for a little less?
Thanks!
Answer: Whole Foods makes it's own branded vitamins that I think are a good bang for the buck. They also make a women's daily supplement. I can't remember exact prices, but I think a bottle of 120 costs about $20.
Question: How do I make a multi-vitamin easier to swallow? I'm taking a vegi multi vitamin and it's disgusting, I can taste it going down and it leaves a bad after taste. How do I make it less disgusting?
Answer: try crushing the pill with a spoon & put it in a few spoons of yogourt.
Question: Is it possible to be allergic to multi vitamin pills? Is it possible I could be allergic to multi vitamins? All it takes is 1 vitamin and i have my skin breakout especially my forehead, and when I dont take any i eventually get better again. Does this make any sense, is there something in the vitamin like iron or something thats causing this? What could I do to get tested?
Answer: Yes. Very rarely does a patient have a reaction to the vitamin itself. Usually it is due to an excipient (additive) that is in the vitamin. You may want to contact the distributor and verify that the vitamin is "excipient free" unless it expressly states that on the container. For further info you may contact me at [email protected] or via phone at (716) 804-1073. Craig Cauley, CPhT.
Question: How healthy is a multi-vitamin or mineral (calcium) that contains preservatives? If it's a small pill but contains unnatural products like: Yellow No 6. Lake, FD&C Red No. 40, etc, is it just as bad as consuming a food product with the same preservative? Is there such thing as a natural multi-vitamin with ALL natural ingredients?
Answer: Check out Isotonix® Multivitamin
http://www.marketamerica.com/lcbeauty/product-2243/isotonix-multivitamin.htm#
It is a vegetarian product and contains no wheat, soy, yeast, gluten, artificial flavor, starch, salt, preservatives or milk. So you don't need to worry about consuming unnautrual and harmful substance to your body.
And the best part is Isotonix is the only isotonic form of supplements in the market that provides superior absorption rate that pill form cannot beat. In order to form pills, filling, additives needs to be added, these are waste to our body and increase digestion time.
2nd, Pills need to be broken down into stomach first before our body can absorb. Stomach is very high acidic, thus most of the nutrients are destroyed in our stomach before reaching small intestine for absorption. So with pill form, you are looking for absorption rate of about 10 to 40% depending on our body's digestion ability and the ingredients to form the pills. Please keep in mind that human's digestion ability decease by age.
With Isotonix line, since it's in isotonic form by adding certain amount of water to one capful of powder (it tastes great too!), vitamins won't stay in stomach and will go to intestine within 5 minutes so you are looking for absorption rate of 90% and higher, higher absorption rate even compare to IV injection.
Not all supplements are made equally. Never look for price when selecting supplements, look for values and potency and absorption rate because our health is priceless!
Question: What is a good multi-vitamin that contains a food source concentrate? Looking for something with nutrients that stay in the body and not digested out. The multi-vitamin that I currently take is a 40/60 (40% stays in body, 60% is digested out). Looking for something a little higher in the part that stimulates the body.
Answer: Although vitamins that "stay in the body" may sound like a good thing there is a reason the body flushes them out. You CAN get too much of a good thing.
For example, overconsumption of fat-soluble vitamins (A,D,E and K) can actually be toxic and accumulate in your fat cells. People who eat alot of carrots, which are high in vitamin A, will actually begin to get a yellowish-orange tint to their skin. This is because the beta-carotene (vitamin a) has built up in their fat cells and the body cannot flush them out fast enough.
Just be careful, you don't need a different vitamin just eat a balanced diet and your good to go!
Question: What is that very distinct flavor when you put a multi vitamin in your mouth? No matter what brand of multi vitamin there is always that very distinct flavor that is the same for all of them. What in there do you taste right off the bat on your tongue?
Answer: to me a multi tastes a lot like a B-complex pill
Question: Is it good to take a daily multi-vitamin while exercising and cutting calories? I've been exercising and eating better and have lost 36 pounds so far in about 3 months. I've decided to start taking a multi vitamin to be sure i get in my needed nutrients, but am wondering if this would help me in my weight loss? I know that they arent weight loss miracle pills, but what i mean is will it be a good thing to take vitamins while im dieting/exercising? Thanks
Answer: yes, it will help you get the vitamins that you may have cut out of your diet while reducing calorie intake
Question: What is the difference between taking a multi-vitamin in the morning vs night? I take my multi-vitamin at night after I get home from the gym. Would I get more energy from it if I took it before I worked out?
Answer: The vitamins will give you a bit of an energy boost. They will also help you digest your food.
If you drink coffee in the morning, do not take your multivitamin with it, since caffeine inhibits absorption of some vitamins. Otherwise, morning is a great time to take it.
Evening is not a good time. That same energy boost can make it harder to sleep.
I usually try to take my vitamins at lunch or mid-afternoon. That energy boost in the afternoon helps a lot, I'm not drinking coffee, and it doesn't affect my sleep. Perfect.
