Nail Bed
Question: How do I get the side of the nail to reattach to the nail bed after picking at it? I have a habit of picking on the dry skin around my nails, and on one of them, it seems to have picked away the side of the nail away from the nail bed, so it's like I have the nail, but on the side, the nail bed has detached to a millimeter. It's like you could cut that side of the nail now. Now, dry skin has formed under that area. How can I get the nail and the nail bed to be more attached at the side?
Answer: First off all stop picking! You may or not have already did permenant damage. Again stop picking and give the nail time to heal itself. Use a good moisturizer. And stop picking!
Question: I used to trim my nails too close causing the nail bed to shorten. How can I grow the "pink part" longer? Due to improper trimming of my nails, they became smaller and irregularly shaped. Any remedies to lengthen the pink part or nail bed?
Answer: You should just let your nails grow out for a while. That should help but it definitely wont be a quick fix.
Question: how do you treat nails that have been seperated from the nail bed? the last time i had acrylic nails on, it caused some of my nails to become separated from the nail bed. its only on the tips of them. how do you get them to grow normally again?
Answer: Only time can heal this kind of thing. Be patient. Have you had your feet looked at by a doctor for signs of a fungus? Nail fungus can cause this problem in many cases. Just a thought.
Question: How to make my nail bed grow longer? For some weird reason my nail bed keeps getting shorter on some of my nails, how do I make it longer? Nail bed.. the part where the nail is on top of the skin
Also, I have weird ridges on my nails and I think it's from the chemicals of acetone, how to I make my nails smooth?
Answer: the presence of ridges is common and no reason for concern at all
to grow the bed, make sure NOT to stress the tip of the nail or tip or your finger, and they'll grow back.
Question: Why is the nail bed only thing left after removing artificial fingernails? I recently removed an artificial fingernail that was coming loose and all I had left under it was a nail bed, NO nail itself. What caused this to happen. Its never happened to me before. By the way, the nail did NOT come off with the artificial nail. I changed nail techs recently and I think another nail is also gone. Weird!
Answer: Did your tech rip them off when removing them? If so, there is your reason why. Or, it could be that you are going to a true discount salon. These places don't know much about doing nails, and they file the heck out of your natural nails. That is another possibility. I would suggest always avoiding the cheap, mall type salons at all costs.
Question: What is the best way to care for a nail that has a callous growing under part of it and an irregular nail bed? What is the best way to care for a nail that has a callous growing under part of it and an irregular nail bed?
Answer: Go to a dermatologist. I had a wart on a finger for years, one drop of something and it went away and stayed away.
Question: How long does it take for your nail bed to heal? I just tore the tip of my thumb nail from the bed, even though it's just the tip, it burns like hell. I put some ice on it so the pain has stopped for now but I'm just wondering how long it will take for the nail to grow over that spot again?
Answer: it will probably take about 2 days..this happens to me all the time and it usually stops hurting as soon as you forget about it...good luck!
Question: How do I get my nail to stay on the nail bed? My thumb nail keeps detatching from the nail bed at the top. Is there any possible way that it could reattach
Where the nail should be attatched it's white like it is at the very top of most nails. But the white area is too far down into the nail bed
Answer: Natural herbal and homeopathic ingredients can help to nourish the nail bed and promote nail growth. Herbs such as Melaleuca laterifolia (Tea Tree Oil) and Lavendula officinalis (Lavender) can help to heal cracked or damaged surfaces of the nail gently, while still conditioning the cuticles and nail beds. Fragrant herbs such as Lemon Grass and Clove Oil can provide natural antiseptic properties and help soothe inflamed skin while helping to prevent infection, without side effects or harsh chemicals.

Question: If you bite your nails down really short, does the nail bed ever regrow? I have bitten my nails since before third grade, and I am now almost 21. My nails are now very short, and so when they grow the white part starts really low. If I stop biting my nails, will the nail bed ever regrow and lengthen to its former place, or will my nails always grow from the middle of my finger forevermore?
Answer: your body is used to nail consumption, and if u stop suddenly
it will look elsewhere to feed itself on keratin (basic nail substance)
and you will start losing your hair
Question: Could a nail fungus be the reason is my toenail plate not sticking to my toenail bed? I just noticed that on one of my big toes it looked lighter on the edge. When I investigated it further I saw I was able to pull the nail plate away from the nail bed rather easily, without pain. This has never happened before. Could it be a nail fungus starting? My husband has had a nail fungus for years. Can I get it from him?
I also have psorasis. I heard that it can cause nail problems too. Anyone else heard of this?
Answer: It sure can be fungus and, yes, it's contagious!
Try this:
Get a bottle of iodine and a plastic drinking straw.
Cut the end of the straw so it's like a little spoon.
Pour a tiny amount of iodine on the straw.
Gently lift your loose nail, and insert the straw-spoon as far as you comfortably can, then pour in the iodine.
Let it sit until it dries, then bandage it with gauze - no tight, waterproof bandaging.
Change twice a day. Do this a few days, maybe a week, and see if it's getting better.
It will kill that ol' fungus when nothing else will!
Good luck, kiddo!

Question: I have been biting my nails for 12 years, and I have bitten far into my nail bed. Help? I have bitten at least half a centimetre into my nail bed on all my fingers, and now I am trying to grow them again.
However, the length of nail bed (the pink part of my nail) is the same, and the only part of my nail that is growing is white.
Will the white parts of my nail eventually turn pink (become nail bed?)?
Answer: i used to bite my nails like that!
an yes as long as u stop they will eventually grow down to be where they should be, but it will take time.
be patient and it will happen
Question: Both of my big toes are painful and there is a black spot at the nail bed of each toe. What is causing this? Both toes are extremely painful and have a black spot in the nail bed of each toe. What is the cause of this?
Answer: You probably have gout. You can get medication to ease it or you can treat it at home but it will require a dietary change. If it isn't gout then it could be something regarding your circulation.. but as it is both toes, I would say that likelihood is gout. It is caused from a buildup of a certain type of acid in the blood. This can come from eating a lot of lunchmeat or processed meats and other dietary factors.
Question: How can I treat a split nail bed on my toe? I have a podatrist appointment next week. My nail bed is split halfway through. How can I treat this. I refuse to use glue. Thanks
Answer: well I was gonna recommend nail glue, but since you don't want to go that route, consider wrapping a good cloth medical grade bandage tape around the toe, it will keep the nail from splitting further and minimize discomfort, of course you won't want to be wearing sandals, but it will do the job.
Question: I cut my fingernail and nail bed halfway down the nail. Should i cut the hanging part off or leave it on? I was grating some cheese when i grated off half of my fingernail down the middle. It also cut off a chunk of the nail bed but the fingernail is still attached. Should I cut off the part of the fingernail that is loosely attached or should I leave it on?
Answer: cut it off as close to the nail bed as possible. You don't want that thing to catch on anything and tear off.
Question: Wen I get acrylic nails done, why does my real nail lift from my nail bed? Is it some type of bacteria? Every single time i get my nails done, my real nail which is under the powder, lifts from my nailbed. It scares me because it looks like my whole nail is about to fall off!! Please do not be confused, my acrylic nail is not lifting from my REAL NAIL, its my real nail lifting from my nail bed.
Answer: You have some sort of allergic reaction to the acrylic. You should stop getting your nails done all together. If your natural nail lifts up from the nails bed, one day it will come off and a new nail wont grow.
Question: How to fix my nail's free edge and nail bed? I don't really know how to explain it well, but my free edge has gone down too "deep" in my nail bed, but only on the sides. So instead of the free edge part, where it meets the rest of the nail, being almost horizontal, it's more like a V or U shape. Sorry if that made no sense... Is there a way to fix this?
Answer: I personally got what you are saying, but have absolutely no idea how to fix it. I would go to any nail salon and ask the professionals there. They will definitely know! Good Luck!
