Need

Question: What do i need to have for college to become a mechanical engineer? I'm a freshman in highschool and I want to be a mechanical engineer and I want to go to University of Colorado in Boulder. I'm doing a college project and I need to know what I need to get in there. What classes I need to take and how long? How much money I need to have? What do I need to have or buy? What would I have to do if I faild a class? How much would the books be? Whats the moving costs? Is there any more information that I might need to know?

Answer: What classes? Your first two years will be all the basic stuff, math and science: Probably a Year+ of Calculus, differential equations, a year of chemistry, a year of physics, as well as general education requirements by your school (humanities classes). Third and fourth years you will take specific ME classes in areas of mechanics, machine design, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, as well as some programming and circuits classes. Most colleges have a four-year BS degree. Some schools require you to co-op for some quarters when you aren't taking classes. If this is the case, it would probably take you five years to get a BS. I don't know how much tuition is. You would have to contact the university. You would need to pay tuition and housing/food costs. If you fail a class, it will probably take longer to finish school because some specialty, higher-level classes are only offered once a year and if you fail a prerequisite class you can fall behind. Count on roughly $1,000-1,500 for books (if you buy them new). You can usually get good deals on used books from either the bookstores or people who previously took the classes.
