Question: What are some non profit animal focused organizations? What are some trustworthy NON PROFIT organizations that you know for sure are worth donating money to and that will use 100% of the donations toward the cause of protecting animals? I'm looking for organizations dealing with both pets and wild animals, animal abuse, endangered species, etc. I'm planning on starting my own non profit 'campaign' of sorts to support a new non profit organization like this each month. I'm starting with animals, but don't want to donate money to someone who will use it on something completely unhelpful to the actual cause.
Answer: Ok I have to let you know one fact-there are NO charitable organizations/non profits where 100% of the donations go to the actual cause. I look for a range of 80-99%, some people are comfortable going as low as 75% but not me. They may have some events where 100% of what they raise in donations goes to the cause but those are usually underwrtitten by a large donor.
Unfortunately they have expenses too-salaries/insurance/overhead/office supplies-you know the same stuff for profit companies use.
Check your yellow pages or online for a local chapter of what i consider are the best options below:
American Council for the Blind-Guide Dogs
PAWS
PETA
Humane Society
Check on any charity through the better business bureau. Their website is below too.
I hope this helps you
Question: Can a non profit organization lose its status if it hosts a used book sale? I work for a non for profit organization. We are planning to host a used books sale in our facilities. Can we lose our non for profit status if we invite a "for profit" book distributor to participate in our used books sale? The "for profit" book distributor will be selling used books only. An answer to this question with verifiable references will be very much appreciated.
Thanks!
Answer: No you will not. Many organizations do a fundraiser, such as a craft fair using paid vendors.
Question: How many non-British persons live in the UK and how much is it costing the government? How many non-British persons live in the UK and how much is it costing the government?
With the country struggling with with the current recession and government revenues slowing up, plus the growing number of non-British persons claiming a variety of benefits (NHS, housing etc..). What impact are they having on the economy and at what point will the limit be reached of social acceptance in such large numbers entering the UK?
Answer: Well, the rule should be simple, no housing & no benefits for anyone who is not permanent resident of UK (including EU citizens, that means an EU citizen must pay TAX for 18 months at least to qualify for this). No Medical for anyone, who is not resident of UK (means at least spending 185 days out of one calendar year, and has paid TAX for that period).
This will sort out everything, including those money/benefit mongers coming from EU countries for benefit fraud.
Its Ironic that a Highly Skilled person entering UK & paying as high monthly TAX as a Polish is earning his monthly salary, yet unable to have any benefit even after three years of residency, While a Pola enters UK, pays TAX for 181 days & claims all benefits & housing & child care etc. that is not even available to him in his own country.
Its UK policies that are attracting, money mongers, EU citizens from states like Poland/Czech/Slovakia/Lithuania/Romania are coming for benefit fraud & non-EU non-skilled labour entering as Asylum seekers only to suck our TAX we pay for services we deserve.
Question: What type of non-financial information is helpful in constructing the budget model? How is non-financial information used to calculate financial information? What advantages does the inclusion of non-financial information have in communicating tactics to make the financial goals?
Answer: Every financial assumption is based on non-financial data. For example, how many employees are on the payroll? What is an average percentage raise you will give this year? Are you going to hire anybody new? If so, at what rate? When are you expecting to get that big insurance refund? When do you pay your property taxes? How much will they be? What will the management bonus be this year? When will it be paid? What interest rate is associated with your loan? Can you get a better rate from another financial institution? If you don't know, how soon do you intend to shop that?
A budget is nothing more than quantifying your operational business plan for the year. Any fool that says "the accountants don't need to know that" is going to end up with an inaccurate budget.
Question: What are the reporting requirements on non-resident alien gifts? My aunt (who meets the IRS definition of being a non-resident alien) intends to give $50k towards my son's college education. My aunt lives in Switzerland. To ensure that the gift is given and received outside of the US (so as to make it non-taxable) I plan to open an account at a foreign bank into which I will receive the gift, and then wire to funds to the university. Gifts from non-resident aliens over $10k normally requires that the recipient file of IRS form 3250.
My Question: since this gift is being used for tuition, is it exempt from filing form 3250? IRC 6039F(b) (Notice of Large Gifts Received from Foreign Persons) has exepmtion language for tuition and medical expenses, but I find the language a bit vague.
Does someone know if, in the circumstances described above I am exempt from filing Form 3250? And thus, I can receive the gift tax free, spend it on tuition and file nothing with the IRS?
Thanks
Answer: I'm suspicious of the qualifications of the above "tax consultant" poster. I found the answer in the Form 3250 instructions on the IRS website, linked below, and it does NOT agree with what he states. I certainly won't be paying HIM for any advice any time soon!
You don't need to file the 3250 for a couple of reasons. One being the nature of the gift for tuition. The other is that the gift is coming from a foreign person where the reporting limit -- at least as I'm reading it -- is $100,000, not $12,760 (2006 rate, it's adjusted for the cost of living.)
Even if the gift had to be reported, it still would not be taxed. The 3250 filing simply advises the IRS of the transfer so that they can evaluate the taxable status of the transfer. A bona-fide gift is never taxable to the recipient.
Technically the donor would need to file a US Gift Tax return and pay any tax due, however as the donor is not subject to US taxation they cannot be compelled to so do. There might be a tax treaty that addresses that issue but that's a problem for the donor to contend with.
The US recipient of the gift is not taxed. Gift recipients are never taxed. It doesn't matter what the money is used for.
There is no need to set up a foreign account for this gift to pass through. In fact, doing so will significantly complicate matters as you will now have to file additional informational returns since you have authority over a foreign depository account.
Question: What are some non-government aid organisations currently operating in Mexico? "Non-Government Organisations: research the work of aid organisations in your chosen country. Give examples of their operations."
For my assignment, I have to choose one developing country and gather information. So here I am, attempting to gather.

Answer: You'll need to fact check, but off the top of my head:

Doctors without Borders
Question: What are some non-alcoholic drinks that you can serve in a teenage party? What are some non-alcoholic drinks that you can serve in a teenage party and how do you make them ? Also how do you make a non-alcoholic pina colada ?
Answer: Go to the store and buy the pre-made mixes that do not contain any alcohol. Blend them up and serve with garnishments and nice glasses. Set the mood like a nightclub setting and the kids will love it. Just be sure to check that the pre-made mix is non-alcohol, some may come with alcohol in them.

Question: How do the non-profit Medical Marijuana Dispensaries make money for its members? I keep reading news articles about California Dispensaries making millions of dollars. Yet, they are non-profits. Could someone explain to me how these non-profits are able to generate so much income for its members? Thanks.
Answer: When they say 'non-profit' they mean that all the money they make goes back into the business itself, which also includes salaries for the workers.

Answer: Your best bet is to seek for private grants or grants from private foundations.
The best resource for this is Foundation Center http://www.fdncenter.org . They have a very good database covering all organizations giving grants and you can find foundations that are interested in supporting your type of cause. However, it's a subscription based website ($19.95 per month I think is the cheapest subscription price). But it certainly is worth the fee. You can subscribe one month, and make sure you get all the info you need and then stop the subscription.
If you want to try federal sources, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants.
CFDA has several ways to search for grants. I suggest you search by beneficiary and select Private Non Profit Organization and you can find listings of grants available http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_BENEF_RPT.show
However, to be able to get grant awards, you need to be 501C(3) certified from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/charities/charitable/index.html
Question: A non hostile relationship with the Islamic world is beneficial to America's national security? A non hostile relationship with the grassroots of the Islamic world is vastly more beneficial to America's national security interests than friendly relationships with regimes that are useful in the short term for their complacence but that are doomed by their autocratic domestic behavior". Do you agree with this statement? If yes, why yes? If not, why not?
Answer: non hostile relationships at all levels are very important, afterall the leaders / regimes also to a large extent are representives of people only. To put it other way some one could also say, have good relations with people of USA but relation with American regime doesnt matter. How odd it would look and wont serve any purpose.
Question: How does detergent interact with water and non-polar substances to remove them from dishes? Ok i know that detergent has both a polar and non-polar 'parts' and that the non-polar part consists of a hydrocarbon chain. The presence of the hydrophilic and hydrophobic parts allow it to act as a bridge between the polar and non-polar substances. I was unsure as to exactly what the polar part is made up of and how exactly the substances interact, how they are attracted to each other.
Answer: Likes dissolve likes. That's not the case with our greasy pans and water. You see, water is polar and oil/grease is non-polar. Oil/grease is known to be hydrophobic (water-fearing) due to the fact that fats can't form hydrogen bonds with water. Surfactants, on the other hand, like detergents and soap are both hydrophilic (water-loving) and hydrophobic. So the tail of surfactants is hydrophobic whereas the head of surfactants is hydrophilic (meaning it can form hydrogen bonds with water molecules). This is how soaps/detergents dissolve oily stuffs: Soaps can cover the sufrace of a hydrophobic molecule with its tail and produce a new hydrophilic surface of its head.
Question: What non profit organizations should I donate to over Christmas? I am 15 years old, and this Christmas Instead of naming gifts i would like to receive, I would rather have my parents donate money to different organizations. Can any one give me any information on real, non profit organizations? Or good websites i can visit? Have you donated there before? If so, how was a the experience?
Answer: Check out MysticRhoads.Com
They are an amazing non profit who raise money for Jamaican kids. They provide there poor rural kids with clothes and school supplies and tuition. They use 100 percent of donations towards the kids.
Question: What is a good non-dairy source of calcium? Is non-dairy calcium more easily absorbable by the human body? Also a good non-meat source of iron
Where does the added calcium in the juices come from? If it comes from animal sources, that is the same as having dairy.
Satya Ahimsa, if the tofu or soy is fortified with calcium, where do they extract that calcium from? If it is from animal sources it is the same as having dairy.
Answer: Tofu, soymilk, juices, and such do not get their calcium from dairy. If they did they would have to put "milk" in the ingredients list under allergens because it could cause reactions. Soy nautrally has calcium already. Calcium is just an element found in rocks, plants, everything and the source of calcium in vegan products is just that.
Here are good sources of calcium (we're recommended around 1000mg usually):
-Collard greens, 1 cup = 350mg of calcium
-Black eyed peas, 1 cup = 210mg of calcium
-Broccoli, 1 cup = 180mg of calcium
-Soybeans, 1 cup = 175mg of calcium
-Blackstrap molasses, 1 tablespoon = 170 mg of calcium
-Baked Beans, 1 cup = 150mg of calcium
-Dried Figs, 1/2 cup = 120mg of calcium
-Snow peas, 1 cup = 95mg of calcium
-Acorn Squash, 1 cup = 90 mg of calcium
-Oranges, 1 orange = 70mg of calcium
-Almonds, 1 ounce = 70mg of calcium
Here are good sources of iron:
-Soy- soybeans, edamame, tofu, tempeh, and soy milk are all excellent sources of iron, one of the best you can find as a vegetarian
-Legumes- chickpeas contain one of the highest levels of iron among legumes, lentils are also an excellent source, but if you don't fancy either of those, all beans will give you a good amount of iron
-Whole grains, bran, oatmeal, cereals, quinoa, and foods along that line are all excellent sources of iron
-Seeds, in particular pumpkin seeds
-Dried fruits, in particular dried apricots
-Leafy greens and sea vegetables like spinach, brocolli, and the like
And I would say that non-dairy sources of calcium are better because animal protein leeches calcium from bones (source for this is everything, just look it up online, you can find it at the National Osteoporosis Foundation website).
Nutritiondata.com is a good source to find the protein and iron content in foods which is where I got the above information.
Question: How much money are non profit board members allowed to spend? I work for a midsize non profit and the board members and upper management are taking their stratigic planning meeting a little over the top this year. They used to just get together locally and meet and discuss the future. This year they are going out of state for a weekend with their spouses, all expenses paid by my non profit! What gives? Is this illegal? Unethical? or completely normal? It makes my blood boil. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer: Board members can have their expenses covered if they are travelling for purposes that support the nonprofit, and strategic planning would fall in this category. Travel and expenses for spouses are generally not paid for, nor should be, for the obvious reasons. However, it is not technically illegal for the organization to do so.
Question: What non-prescription (over the counter) drugs can I use to improve my memory and concentration? I've heard about legal, non-prescription drugs and diet supplements that can improve memory, cognitive function, concentration, and quick thinking. What would you recommend based on your medical knowledge and/or experience with such substances?
Answer: Do not listen to ghost. DXM is a illegal drug when abused as such. It can also turn up in drug screens, but I think only as alcohol. Also, it makes you feel drunk, can make you hallucinate, and if your body can't handle it (it's VERY strong, think drinking whiskeyX2) you will vomit. It will feel like your vomiting forever. You will not be able to function. It's the closest thing to death I've ever experienced.
