Obese
Question: Why are obese and overweight gay and bi men shunned from the mainstream gay community scene? But when it comes to lesbians and bi women, being overweight or obese is somehow more tolerated? How does one cope with being an overweight/obese gay/bi male in the GLBT community at large? Are they forever expected to remain in the category of "bears" or "daddies"? What do you think?
Answer: ....
why not just loose weight?
Question: What is the difference between obese and morbidly obese? My doctor told me that I was morbidly obese in October, now I am border line obese/overweight. Can anyone tell me the difference.
Answer: Obese is 20% or more over ideal. Morbid obesity is 100 pounds or more over ideal.
Question: What percentage of obese people are so because of legitimate health predicaments? Whenever there are questions touching on the issue of obesity, many claim "Many people are obese because of health conditions, or disease " or what have you. My question today, is out of all the obese people in America, how many are obese because of such health related reasons, and how many are obese because of their eating/exercise habits? Please cite sources and provide direct links.
Answer: First of all, there are really only two conditions that can lead to obesity-- diabetes and hypothyroidism. Both are treatable. I have hypothyroidism and I am not overweight. So even with these conditions, weight is still controllable by healthy eating and exercise. Anyone who says they have one of these conditions and it's why they are obese, is lying. If they know they have the condition, they are probably treating it with medication and are then on the same playing field as everyone else.
I don't have direct links but if you look up those two disorders, you will find information about obesity.
Question: What do find is positive about being obese or very obese? I am super obese (BMI over 50) and love it. There is so much negativity out there from those that are obese and want to lose weight and others who critisise us that I thought it would be nice to redress the balance.
Girl, does that make a difference?
Answer: dont worry about everyone else, if you are happy then you are happy. just know that its not healthy to put that much strain on ur heart
Question: What percentage of obese people have eating disorders? What percentage of obese people have eating disorders? Is it more common than unhealthy lifestyle?
To clear it up, I mean people who have had eating disorders from the start, not after they started eating enormous amounts.
Answer: Most people have unhealthy life styles, especially older folks who are passing their habits down to their kids. However, it is more common to have an eating disorder at a younger age. So, finding a statistic is going to be age based, and not representative of everyone.
Contrary to your question, most people that have eating disorders are not obese, they are quite likely to be unusually thin. Think: young girls throwing up after a meal. The obese people will have a problem that deals with food as a source of soothing in an emotional setting.
Question: Why should smokers and obese people only have to pay the same medicare withholdings as a healthy nonsmoker? When in the breakroom with my bottled water and fruit, I see these horribly obese slobs chewing down on junk food. And smokers puffing away on their quest for lung cancer. And I'm thinking why don't they have to pay more into the medicare system? They will be using it when the fatsos get diabetes and the smokers get cancer.
Shouldn't we people who try to take care of ourselves get a discount?
Being fat and smoking are both choices.
Answer: You want a discount because you eat fruit and drink water?
What about those who drink too much alcohol that are more likely to get liver disease?
Or those who drive too fast that and are more likely to get in a car accident?
Not to mention the Billions of other behaviors people have that may make them high risk, should we charge all of them more?
Are you sure there's nothing you do in your life that would make you one of those more at risk and should also be charged more then the rest?
Question: What foods should an obese person trying to lose weight avoid? My mom is not just overweight. She's considered obese, and I think before she exercises or anything, she needs to eat less, and eat the right stuff. I heard before that they should avoid bread or something like that?
I obviously knwo sweets are bad, but I'm talking about food that isn't bad for most people.
Answer: My colleague lost a lot of weight sticking to a general rule - if you can't pronounce it or don't know what it is - don't eat it. Here are a few things- 1. try to avoid anything that has modified or even partially modified ingridients, the same goes to hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated, and high fructose syrop. These ingridients are BAD, all together they screw up your system and metabolism - and that's why people get obese. The same goes to all the chemical unnatural ingridients - simply put - they do not belong in your body. Most of them were maid to make food processing cheaper and shelf life longer - it's about producers revenues, not our bodies! It takes awhile to wash these all from your body if you've been eating like this most of your life, but it works.
2. Try to avoid fast food all together. Buy a steamer.
3. She can also try do more research on how carbs/proteins should be eaten. There is a whole science behind it but simply but -because of how we digest proteins and carbs - you should mix them wisely. In a nutshell - you can eat meat and veggies, or veggies and carbs - such as pastas, rice etc. Meat and carbs - not a good combination, you stomach can't digest it right, and that how you gain weight fast. This takes care of burritoes, pizzas, sandwiches etc.
Those are very simply put basics, if it makes sense to you - I suggest you Google more info on each subject and see what sounds right to you. Good luck!!
Question: What happens to a obese girls vigina after she looses a ton of weight? Im just curious what happens to a overly obese females vagina when they loose a substantial amount of weight.
does it shrink or get flabby ect ect
Answer: I guess the internal vagina would be same, but maybe the outside labia would be a little loose depending on genetics, age, etc. But even thin women can have dropped uterus and saggy skin depending on age, births, etc.
Maybe check out a plastic surgery website.
Question: What is the difference from Overweight and Obese? I always thought overweight is being obese, just obese is the medical term for overweight.
Answer: Hi !
Overweight refers to an individual weighing 10% or more of what is considered his or her recommended healthy weight (as determined by large-scale population surveys).
Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy.
Question: What do obese people think of themselves each time they see themselves nude in the mirror? Someone asked the question do you judge obese people. It's time we learn what obese people think of themselves to help other people understand them better - without any prejudice.
Answer: Some days, I think "Ugh.". Other days, I love my body and can't get enough of it, thinking it's quite cute. It depends largely on my mood for the day.
Question: How do I get my Obese cat to lose weight? I have 3 cats. My oldest is obese. The other 2 are all right in weight. If I put my oldest on a diet, how can I prevent my other 2 from losing weight?
Answer: I don't know how you feed your cats, but cats are obligate carnavoirs and after they are adult, they must be fed 2 meals a day with fasting inbetween for their health. They intestinal tracts are short and it is better for them if they go without food for 8 to 12 hours inbetween their meals. If your cat was in the wild, it would be doing that. Also, your cat would be getting a lot more exercise if it was in the wild so be sure that you are giving it at least 2 good quality play periods a day. This can be done with a toy on a string, or a ball you roll and they chase, or you can invent games. We play indoor pingpong and badminton so that ours can chase the balls and the birdies. We also have several home made toys on strings that we purposely make them chase up and down their condo's. The key in these exercises is to play until the cat gets tired and stops first, and they will. Another good game is to get one of those laser lights but be sure you do not shine it in their eyes or they will go blind. Anyway, if you are feeding your cat properly, you will find that it tells you one the can of food how much they need for their weight per day per meal. If you get your kittys good exercise and keep their food intake correct, the ones that are skinny will gain and eat what they need because the exercise will perk their appetite and the ones that are fat, can't eat more than you put out for them at a feeding and the exercise will help them lose. You can feed them all in different corners of the room and stay there until they are finished or in different rooms. If you train them that they will get food for only 1 hour down, they will learn that if they want to eat, they had best do so. All day munching for a cat is not healthy for them. If that is what they are currently doing, you will have to break them of that habit. To do so, if they are adults, put the food down 2 times a day and leave it down for 6 hours and pick it up for 6 hours for the 1st week. Then each week after that, pick it up 1 hour earlier until it is only down for 1 hour. You can actually get them to eat it all in 30 minutes if you work at it and that is what they should be doing. The problem now is that they are allowed to have it all the time most likely and so they have learned to nibble. You will have to retrain them and it is very easy if you keep patient and consistent. I guarantee they will get the message very quickly. Cats are actually easier to train than dogs. I know since I train all of mind to do everything. Good luck.
Question: How many obese people are actually obese due to illness and how many due to laziness? It bothers me that so many obese people say they are obese due to illness. I don't know where but I recall seeing a statisic that said less than 1% of obese people are suffering an illness that makes them gain weight.
It's my opinion that too many people are giving themselves "permission" to be unhealthy by saying they have an illness when they truly don't.
What does Y! Answers think?
Waynebudd- I think laziness is extremely fair, because it's true. It's laziness that drives people McDs instead of cooking in their own house. It's laziness that gets people into their cars instead of walking someplace.
Mystery- Very good points. I do believe in food addictions, but like any addiction I don't believe in allowing people to use it as an excuse.
Chula- Good for you, for owning up to your own mistakes and making the effort to fix them. I have a lot of respect for people who don't hide behind excuses.
Victory- If I ever have that situation occur in my life I'm sure it'll be difficult. But I also won't just lay down and say, Oh I'm fat because of this pill...I'll do everything I can to keep myself healthy.
BTW I used to be overweight. I wasn't obese, but I had a BMI of 26, and a body fat percentage of 30%...extremely unhealthy. I didn't make excuses though. I admitted that it was my fault I'd let myself get that way. And, I fixed it. It wasn't easy, or fast but I worked for it.
Mompoo- Do you think you deserve an award?
MrsRackle- Very good, thoughtful answer.
Chris- Good points
Cristy- Why is it my business? Because as a taxpayer I end up PAYING for the lazy people who get those "free" electric wheelchairs because they don't want to walk. The "Free"ness of the wheel chair means the taxpayers shelled out for it. Many obese people "can't" work, so who pays for them? TAXPAYERS...I don't want to pay for lazy, lazy people.
Answer: I agree with your comment regarding too many people giving themselves permission to be unhealthy. In my opinion it is a gross form of self abuse, and even a form a child neglect when a parent allows a child to become obese. I often wonder how taxing obesity is on the medical system and how heavy obesity related diseases hits the tax payers pocket?
Question: What are some types of excercise that obese people can start with to gain muscle mass? My friend (yes literally) is technically obese and she's asked for some tips on excercising to gain muscle mass. I have no idea what to tell her cause I'm an annoying high-metabolism person who never works out. Any suggestions or good websites I can pass along or should I feed her to the dogs?
Answer: I don't mean to be a jerk, but the previous answer is silly. More muscle = more efficient fat burning. Strength training literally helps you burn fat FASTER, so it's not going to help to leave weight training out of the equation until you have "burned some fat already". Health and strength are the first concerns, not whether you will look "a little bigger" and most likely you won't anyway.
I'd recommend a circuit training workout to begin with. This can be done at your own pace, works the whole body, and gives very fast results. Look especially at doing things that increase your balance and your core (abs/back) strength. Check out the website below for some suggestions, though if the person has not exercised before, she might be better off with a trainer to start with.
The other really great thing about circuit training, at least for me, is that it goes quickly and if you have no attention span (like me) it keeps you from getting bored with your workout. :)
Question: What is a good percentage of morbidly obese people in the United States? I know there's small, full figure and overweight but I don't see as many morbidly obese people and when I do its not everyday. Its once and a while.
Answer: A good percentage would be 0%.. but I have a feeling the true percentage is much higher.
Question: Should obese Americans be made to go to a physical conditioning camp? Since so many Americans are so portly and chunky in the butt, should the obese ones be required to attend a physical conditioning education camp? It could be like a 12 week program or a program after work or on the weekends.
They can have mandatory rehab camps for druggies also if you guys want. I think the mandatory camps are good because it does something positive for the people who are obese and since their are no jobs now it would give a lot of people something positive to do.
Answer: yes lets send them to fat camp.
Question: Is it safe for obese people to take green tea supplements? I'm having a huge argument with my mom right now. Isn't it unsafe for obese people to take green tea supplements? Doesn't it cause heart palpitations and stuff?
If not, then are there any negative side effects to green tea supplements? Would you recommend that obese people take them in order to lose weight/boost metabolism?
Answer: I just read an article in which this information was given about green tea.
It stated that green tea is safe for most adults when taken in moderation. It stated the although rare, there have been cases of liver problems in some people who took concentrated green tea extracts.
Green tea contains caffeine and can cause insomnia, anxiety , upset stomach and frequent urination in some people. Green tea contains small amounts of vitamin K which can make drugs such as warfarin less effective. It is always a good idea to check with your doctor before starting any weight loss program.Ask your doctor if it is safe for you to make green tea a part of your plan.
Some good things that I found out about green tea were:
It contains lots of antioxidants. It contains amylase which breaks down starch and slows down the spike in blood sugar. Some people refer to green tea as a fat burner which can help you lose weight.
