Restaurant Choices
Question: Can some one help me with some restaurant choices? I am from Whitehall PA, and I am looking for some really nice restaurants that take reservations. I don't care if it is an hour from my town ( Philly, or King of Prussia), I am just trying to find some ideas for a valentines dinner for my wife and I... I can take care of the rest ;) Looking for ideas other than Maggianos, and the cheese cake factory.
Answer: Le Bec Fin. Downtown Philly. I think it's still rated as the best restaurant in PA.
Question: What are good restaurant choices for Disneyland, California adventure, or Downtown Disney? I would prefer sit down type places. My kids are 10 and 13.
Answer: There are several excellent restaurants in Downtown Disney. House of Blues has great ambiance and fairly authentic Cajun and southern-style food. Rainforest Café is quite entertaining and the food is OK. ESPN Zone is a combination sports bar with pub-style food and video arcade that I’m sure your kids would love as there are several fun games upstairs. There is also a nice latin-food restaurant called Tortillas that isn’t bad.
A concern about the Downtown Disney restaurants is that they do not take reservations and the waits can be quite long. Eating at off times helps quite a bit. For example, you can have a late brunch in the park and do a late lunch at one of the restaurants in Downtown Disney. Waits are only about 10 minutes around 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon.
Disneyland itself has the best restaurant of the three, in my opinion. The Blue Bayou is inside of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The atmosphere is fabulous and the food is wonderful. Besides, nothing beats getting to eat inside of a ride. There is also a lovely little breakfast place on Main Street, USA about halfway down on the left side as you head towards the castle. I can’t remember the name but the Mickey pancakes are the best!
California Adventure has Ariel’s Grotto which is a character dining experience. The food is OK and includes a multi-course meal for one price. Characters roam about the restaurant greeting diners and taking pictures and it’s quite fun.
Also, don’t forget about the restaurants in the three Disneyland Resort Hotels. Granville’s Steakhouse in the Grand Californian is excellent but a little pricey. The ambiance is lovely though.
The benefit of eating in the parks or the Disneyland Resort hotels is that you can make advance reservations which means that you book a time, show up about 5 minutes beforehand and get the next available table for your party size. It’s not a reservation but does keep you from waiting 45 minutes to 2 hours for a table at a Downtown Disney restaurant or a park restaurant without an advance reservation.
I strongly encourage you to check out www.mouseplanet.com. They are a great site that lists information and user reviews for all of the restaurants at the Disneyland Resort. I use them for every trip I take to Disneyland and they haven't let me down yet.
Good luck and happy planning! Enjoy your trip to the House of Mouse!
Cheers,
Shauna

Question: what are some low cal restaurant choices? i am going to a restaurant with my family tonight for my grandma's b-day, so i was wondering, what can i get that is extremely low cal? like 200 calories?
or something around 400 calories so i can eat half, take half home, and eat 200 cals?
or low calorie salad dressings (i can get chicken salad but not eat the chicken)?
oh yeah, i don't know what kind of restaurant, but it will probably be either italian or a steakhouse
thanks!! :)
Answer: some restaurants have low cal menu choices, I would check that first. if not then go with salad ( nothing wrong with grilled chicken) with a low fat/fat free dressing like Italian or vinaigrette. you could also look for a dinner with grilled chicken if you didn't want salad. with steamed veggies or even something like vegetable soup.

Question: When eating out at an Indian restaurant, what are some low-carb choices? Is Chicken Tika Masala one? Or what about Chicken saagwalla? Thanks!
Answer: I am a former chef and Indian food while not high in carbohyrates has a reasonable amount, lentils, meats, naan bread, veg with cheese and rice, now basmati rice is a bit lower in carb than any other.
For me here in Toronto I go to the buffet places, so I can moderate my choices and portion sizes, I would recommend things like Chicken in non cream sauces, like Vindallo, Madras or tomato based sauces, lamb and seafood dishes, lentils are good along with chickpeas known as Channa.
They make a whole wheat bread called chapati, and dishes like Peas or Spinach with Paneer a type of cheese are nice, limit yourself to small portions and drink water over the Lassi a yougart mixed beverage. Desserts like Kehir there version of rice pudding and Gulab Jaman a doughnut like fritter, serve in a rose flavours syrup.
