School Lunch
Question: school lunch? are there any programs that i could get my school involved in that would give our students better quality and healthier food for lunch?
Answer: go to the principal and discuss including healthier options at the cafeteria. if he refuses to listen, then go to the district. you can go it alone, or you can get a group of people to state your case with you. it might be tough, but it will be well worth the battle.
check out "don't eat this book" by morgan spurlock @ your library. there was a lady who was able to change how this one school served their food in olympia, washington. the school now has a garden and allows their students to participate in growing their own organic veggies. a lot of the junk they were serving in the cafeteria was replaced with healthier options.
there is contact information in the appendix of that particular lady in washington and other people/groups who've made a positive change in their schools.
best wishes.
Question: School lunch? My kids are going to a school that does not have school lunch! Any ideas on good lunch that i can pack for them?
Answer: I Live in Australia and no schools do school lunches here... its not bizarre to me...
i used to get sick of sandwiches however..
how about a salad and a tin of tuna
soup in a thermos
pita wraps
cheese and crackers
carrot and celery sticks and salsa
potato or pasta salad
salad rolls
savoury muffins
fresh fruit
jelly sometimes is cool
try not to give your child chocolate, chips or buscuits every day as this is what leads to childhood obesity...
Question: When it comes to packing school lunch, what do you make for school lunch? After rufusing to eat school cafeteria food, since the pizza, in my opinion, tastes like cardboard. I have only ate school cafeteria food 3 times in my life, only because I simply forgot to bring my lunch from home.
Some favorite lunch i had growing up:
-Peanut Butter & Jelly
-Deli Meat Sandwhich & Cheese
-Lunchables
I think it's time for a change, what type of lunch do you bring to school?
Answer: I really like pasta salad for lunch because it's meant to be eaten cold. Also, green apple slices dipped in vanilla yogurt, pepperoni slices on Ritz crackers, mozzarella string cheese, or a bowl of fresh raspberries make good sides.
Question: What is a quick and healthy school lunch? I am sick and tired of bringing the same lunch every day to school. And it's really unhealthy. This is my regular school lunch: Strawberry Jell-O, Capri-Sun, Chips, and a Honey bun. I sometimes bring a turkey sandwhich. I have no access to a microwave or anything at school. I need a quick lunch that's healthy and that I can prepare in the morning or overnight. Any suggestions? Websites with recipes would really help.
Thanks :)
Answer: We have some ideas of good, healthy lunches on our web site at http://www.lunchtaker.com. We created the site to help inspire people to pack healthy lunches. It certainly helps us keep out of a rut. You can join for free and save your own lunches, get monthly updates, and participate in discussions about lunch ideas, too.

Question: How much llbs would I gain eating school lunch? What should be the best thing to eat for lunch? Some of the food they serve in my school is mozaella sticks, pizza, chicken nuggets, hamburgers, pretzels, grilled cheese sandwich, ham sandwich etc. Is this healthy? Should I eat school lunch or bring my own lunch? If so what?
Answer: Bring a sandwich.
make it on whole wheat bread. Turkey is 1 of the most healthy foods you can eat. Put lettuce, tomato, and other veggies u like on it. if you need sauce, use olive oil instead of mayo.
also throw in an apple or carrots.
DO NOT EAT SALAD (unless you skip the dressing and croutons)
drink skim milk.
Question: What was the average school lunch price when you were in high school? I'm gathering information for a story in my school newspaper about the rise in school lunch prices. Our school lunch price has increased 25% in the last year.
Please tell me the year you're referring to as well!!!!!
Answer: hot lunch - 1.50
sandwich - 1.50
salad - 1.75
bagel - 1.00 (.25 more is you wanted it toasted with cream cheese)
soup - .75
chips - .30
milk - .30
this was over the '98/99 school year to the '01/02 school year. school is located in south jersey.
Question: What are good snacks to eat for a school lunch? My dad makes my lunch and he makes me:
Salami and cheese
Capri sun
a couple granola bars
fruit rollup/gushers
sometimes a bag of chips or bag of oreos/chocolate covered pretzels/etc
Pretty much just junk food. I want to eat healthier!
What foods can I get that will be great for school lunch and are healthy?
Answer: A tuna fish sandwich on whole wheat bread is actually very healthy, if you don't use much mayo. Also, believe it or not, peanut butter and jelly is good for you because of the protein in the peanut butter. Again, don't use too much peanut butter OR jelly for that matter.
Try fruits like apples, pears, grapes, bananas, etc and veggies like carrot or celery sticks. They're really healthy and easy to pack in a school lunch. For drinks, bring a bottled water or go get a milk from the lunch counter.
Hope I helped!
Question: How to get your school lunch changed? I want to get my school lunch changed from 4th period lunch (which is at like 10:30am) to 6th lunch (around 12:30). Whats a good reason that I can tell my school counselor so I can change it?
Answer: Not knowing more about it...reasons have to be legit.
Examples:
- If you play sports (spring or fall) it's better for you to have a meal later at 1230 vs. 1030am so you aren't starving before practice. Same if you have an after school job and might not get a chance to eat first.
-You can say you get tired after lunch and don't want to go to your 11am class tired etc. because its a more difficult course for you
Just make sure it sounds like a legit reason, something that affects your academics or productivity in school, not just to be with your pals.
They'll be more receptive to things that affect your grades and performance in school more than your social life.
Question: How many calories are in my school lunch? I have no idea how many calories are in the lunch I eat at school =/
Usually I eat a cheeseburger (burger, cheese, wheat bun) and chocolate milk.
Or I eat a chicken sandwich (breaded chicken patty, wheat bun) and chocolate milk.
I don't use any condiments or anything else.
Is it possible that I'm eating more than 500 calories at lunch?
Answer: Very possible, since the cheeseburger/chicken sandwhich could be up to 400 calories and a large chocolate milk is likely to be at least 200 calories. But, its very hard to say exactly. Either way if you only have this once/twice a week its not going to kill you :)
Question: what should I do for school lunch? What are your favorite things to eat for school lunch? Nothing in a thermos and nothing too fancy. I don't like that many vegetables or anything on sandwiches. Mostly premade or very simple sandwiches and snacks.
what is your favorite kind of sandwich and snack food?
Answer: Pick one from each group:
Whole fruit: apple, orange, banana, pear, plum, apricot, grapes
Protein: yogurt cup, string cheese, cubes of cheese, peanut butter, boiled egg, sliced lunch meat, nuts, soy milk
Grain: granola bar, whole grain bread, oats or cereal, 1 pop tart, crackers, cold noodles, pasta salad, peanut butter or cheese crackers, muffin, bagel
Snack: fruit cups, jello or pudding cups, applesauce, cookies, snack size raisins, dried fruit, trail mix
Question: What did a typical school lunch look like in the 1960's? I need to know what was included in a school lunch (as in the ones provided by the school) in the 1960's.
1970's?
1980's?
1990's?
Answer: Schools did not provide us lunch. The family did. We walked home for lunch and then walked back to school. (elementary school) Later on in elementary school, we stayed to eat lunch. Things were changing.
A typical lunch could be peanut butter and jelly on Wonder Bread. Baloney. Ham and cheese. It really wasn't a lot different from today. Sometimes we brought chicken soup (Cambells or Lipton) in the red plaid thermos. Sometimes we had a homemade brownie or cookie. We had metal lunchboxes. Sometimes we had paper bags. You got a bottle of milk and everyone saved the cardboard bottle caps.
Later we had milk cartons just like today.
Early 70s cafeteria lunch not unlike today. On Fridays I bought lunch. (Milk was 4 cents. I forgot what lunch cost.) Friday lunch was a bready pizza, brownie, cole slaw, milk. Just like today.
That's just one person's story.

Question: What are some vegetarian foods that i can pack for my school lunch? i need some ideas for vegetarian foods i can bring to school for lunch, since i bring my lunch. i dont really have any good ideas. ill probably be drinking water every day (we can recycle the water bottles at my school), unless u people know some drinks that would be easy to pack? and my lunch box is pretty big, so, yea. i dont have that big of an appetite either.
THANX!
Answer: "Baby carrots" come peeled and washed and packaged in plastic just put 4 or 5 in a "snack bag" and you have a good start. Apple (most apples are larger than you might like, just cut one in half and wrap in plastic wrap. Use your knife to cut off the exposed part and then cut the rest into bite sized bits. Use a plastic knife with care so it does not break in your hand. A banana is good also of course orange or tangerine. You might read labels on energy drinks to find one that is low in sugar and calories..I do not have any experience with these and there are so many on the market. Low fat cheese once a week would be a change of pace. I will ask at the garden site for foods that can be eaten "raw". Have a great year at school.
OK I have asked around.. use a plastic bowl with a tight fitting lid...see if you can get one that will fit in your lunch box.
make a salad with any salad "fixins" that you like... the problem is to keep it fresh.. get some of the plastic ice cubes that can be frozen but will not melt (they are reuseable) put some inside the plastic bowl. Dressing is a problem.. maybe you can get some packets at a restaurant supply place or put a small amount in a plastic container. remember to take a plastic fork or maybe you can get a "spork" at your school.
You may need to practice this a couple of time to get everything just right. Good luck Remember a weekly binge is not bad as long as you keep the portions "small"
