Seal Oil
Question: Is there any oil that help seal oil leakage in a car machine? I heard some of my friends said that there is a kind of oil that helps seal small oil leakage in a car machine? Is that right and how does that work? Is there anyone who can come up with an answer?
Answer: No. Once a seal starts leaking, it only gets worse. Any sealer that would stop an oil leak could stop up an oil passage and lead to oil starvation. You are probably thinking of a mineral oil compound that expands the seals. This will lead to seal failure. Another possibility is using an oil thickener. That's not good either, especially if you run in cold weather. I've NEVER had any luck with any quick fix product to stop an oil leak, radiator leak, power steering leak, transmission leak, or urinary tract leak. Best and more permanent solution is to replace the seal.
Question: Is seal oil healthy and what are the benefits and side effects from it? I've been hearing recently from my friends and peers that seal oil is a healthy way to get healthier besides the regular diet and exercise, that it will help boost the body or so but before I try seal oil products I would like to know whether seal oil products are healthy? and what are the benefits and side effects from seal oil products?
Answer: Seal oil makes you fat period.

Question: Can I replace the oil seal behind the chain drive sprocket on a 1987 honda Xr2504 from the outside? I have a 1987 Honda XR250R dirt bike and the oil seal behind the chain drive sprocket is leaking. I can get the seal easy enough but do I have to disassemble the transmission to replace this seal or can I do it from the outside?
Answer: countershaft seals on all japanese motorcycles are designed with a ridge on the outside diameter and the cases are designed with a groove to hold the seal in preventing it from coming out any other way except by splitting the case halves. It is possible to tear it out from the outside but it isn't designed or recommended to do so.
Question: How hard is it to replace the rear crankshaft oil seal on a 1993 GMC Sonoma pickup? My 1993 GMC Sonoma pickup has suddenly developed a massive oil leak. It is coming from the back of the engine. I believe it is the rear oil seal. I cant really tell there is so much oil all on the under carriage of the truck. It has just started and can use about a quart and a half in 50 miles of driving. It also has three codes showing. 13, 34, and 44. What would cause this? It has suddenly started drinking gas like crazy.
Answer: The trouble to replace the seal is you have to pull the transmission and the flywheel. A bad seal would not make your truck start using gas though. Something else must have failed to cause the oil leak and the gas usage. I wonder if your cam thrust face could have pushed out the rear cam plug allowing oil to spray out the back into the bellhousing and to alter the ignition timing to the extent you are getting bad gas mileage. Is the truck still running properly? It seems like you would notice a big change in the performance if the ignition timing was to suddenly get a good bit off.
Question: How to replace front oil seal in a ford 289 1965 mustang? would like to know how to replace the front oil seal . Easy or hard ? any special tools?

Question: What causes a 1986 Cheverolet Camaro Z28 Torque Converter oil seal to fail? It is leaking oil externally around the seal. What should be done? Can the seal be replace/ jerryrigged with RTV, what have you.....to seal it back up? Or does the tranny have to come down to replace the Torque Converter? Recommendations?
Answer: I do not know, but my Z-28 1988 RED Camero was a lemon, only 17,000 miles on it when I bought it. The engine block must have been cracked, warrenty still on it but chevey
garages stalled finding and fixing the problem. I would pull down a back street and put more water and antifreeze in the
engine because it would over heat since the first week I bought it.
The engine light would go on and the one chevey garage just unhooked the engine light and told me it is a faught in this car, and they just unhooked the nusence light. Time ran out, my husband left me with an expensice car that was a lemon--a BEATIFULL LEMON BUT A LEMON.
My son uses an engine glue that works marvelous on the block so Maybe this would work for you. Advanced auto in our area are really helpful about these things and parts and all are so reasonable to get also. I just talked ,at a funeral today, her uncle I taught how to drive in my IROC; He had been in an accident and I teased him, "& I taught you how to drive" .In that inflamous Iroc Z-28.( It was a freak accident and he was only going 25MPH but the guy already had a birth/medical condition so they sued Him. Sad
Do you own One of these cool Cameros? See we have some things in common, that is why your questions are so much fun?? Or it may be for your son or daughter????
Peace!! Never did get fixed, sold it for $1000.as Is; a guy droped another engine, got all new wheels and was set to drive that baby a 100,000 000 Miles. Good Luck!!

Question: My tranmission on my 2000 dodge durango is leaking oil is a broke seal, what happen if I dont replace that s? My tranmission on my 2000 dodge durango is leaking oil is a broke seal, what happen if I dont replace that seals will the leaks get worst? It too much money to get it fix b/c they got to take the tranmiisiion out in order to put the seal on it! Also the rear engine oil seal is leaking too, What should I do? Buy a jappanesse cars?
Answer: Yes you should get it fixed. Depending on how much oil and how long it has been leaking out determines how soon you should take it in. Yes, it probably will be costly to get new seal put in, anything that has to do with transmissions usually does b/c mechanics have difficulty getting at them to work on. However, getting it fixed now will lessen your chance of it seizing later, so take it to the shop.
Question: How do I take off a counter shaft oil seal from behind the sprocket? ATV? I have a 1990 500cc Suzuki Quadzilla, I have sprung an oil leak from behind the drive sprocket, I know that's a broken or thinned oil seal, I took the sprocket off and the spacer and the O ring, I can see the oil seal but I can't figure out how to get it out. Your not supposed to have to split the case can anyone help me out here?
Answer: A dental pick isn't going to be strong enough. There are bigger picks made especially for pulling the seal out, but since it's apparent you don't have one you might try this. Take a sheetrock screw, one of the thinner ones with the very sharp point. With a hammer, see if you can punch a little hole in the metal part of the seal and then screw the screw in a bit. Then depending upon how much room you have, use a small crowbar or claw hammer to pull the seal out prying on the screw. If the screw pulls out of the hole, try driving the tip of a slapp screwdriver into the hole. If that tears out, buy that time you should be able to grasp the seal with pliers and pry it out. Just be careful to not drive anything in so far as to scuff up the shaft or the housing behind the seal.
After you get it out, clean the hole out and find a socket, deep well most likely that will just barely fit inside the hole in the cover and not interfere with the end of the shaft. If there are sharp splines that the seal lip is going to have to slide over, try wrapping the splines with several layers of cellophane wrap. This is to keep the splines from cutting the new seal and ruining it. Grease the outside of the new seal, place the seal squarely over the hole and carefully use the socket to drive the new seal in.

Question: How do I replace a front (crankshaft) oil seal? How do I replace a front oil seal at the crankshaft on my engine? What is the best way to remove the old seal? How do I press in the new seal? Are there any safe short cuts? What should I be careful of?
Before you tell me to have a mechanic or guy do it, you should know I like doing this stuff.
I successfully replaced the oil pan gaskets, water pump, alternator, and a half-axle. (I can cook and sew too!)
It's time to move ahead.
Any tips for a little 5 ft & 102 lb Asian girl with a lot of courage?
My Chilton's Manual doesn't say.
The make and model doesn't matter here because I am interested in the procedure for removing and replacing the actual seal. The seals are basically the same for all engines and I already know how to get to its location.
I took off the timing belt and gear on the crank when I replaced the water pump. It's not big deal. I've done it before. One of the water pump bolts is located behind the gear and its housing. The gear had to come off.
It is a front wheel drive but the engine compartment is so big, I could hold a wedding reception under the hood. I don't need to remove the engine.
My love ♥♥♥ and sincere thanks to Sam Hill Esquire for your straight-up answer. I appreciate that you didn't assume I was incapable or stupid just because I am a girl.
While I love to wear slinky short skirts and strappy Italian high heels, I can also replace a head gasket if needed.
Answer: On some vehicles the engine must come out, at least partially, if it is rear wheel drive it is a piece of cake, but a lot of work. Depending on the egine the seal will be located under the timing chain gear under the water pump and timing chain cover. You can use a screwdriver to remove the old one, a wrench under it for leverage might help. Pop the old one out, wipe the area clean with a rag and replace. I cut a notch out of a 2"x4" and place it squarely on the new seal and tap it in with a hammer. Front wheel drive vehicles are much more difficult though, you might want to consider having it done if that is the case. The bottom timing gear belt or chain must come off!
Question: My tranmission on my 2000 dodge durango is leaking oil is a broke seal, what happen if I dont replace that sea? My tranmission on my 2000 dodge durango is leaking oil is a broke seal, what happen if I dont replace that seals will the leaks get worst? It too much money to get it fix b/c they got to take the tranmiisiion out in order to put the seal on it! Also the rear engine oil seal is leaking too, What should I do? Buy a jappanesse cars?
Answer: A jappanesse as you spell it will cost more than it will to fix your durango. On top of that if the same issue crops up in the "jappanesse" car it will cost 3 times a much to get it fixed. Rear main seals go out in Jap cars just as often as they do in american cars.
Question: How much to replace crankshaft oil seal? My cousin is giving me her car but just rang today and said the crankshaft oil seal on engine is leaking. Question: How do I replace a crankshaft oil seal? I have a 1995 Bonneville, 3800 engine. It appears the crankshaft oil seal is leaking badly. I can't get the crankshaft bolt to turn, and I don't know what way it is suppose to turn. Half inch drive breaker bar does not even budge it. Will I have to pull the engine to replace the oil seal? I want to try to do this myself, and this is my first attempt at doing something like this. Any advice you can provide would be appreciated.
it is the front
Answer: That bolt will turn to the left just like any other standard bolt. Be careful though because that motor uses a hall effect crankshaft position sensor that is located just behind the balance you are trying to get off. If it is the front crankshaft seal that is leaking you should be able to do it as long as you have a repair manual to walk you through all of the finer steps. If it is the rear main seal that is leaking you are farther ahead paying someone else to do it unless you have a strong mechanical ability. If it is the rear one I believe the motor does have to be removed but if it is the front you can do it in the car with no problems. Hope I have been helpful.
