Tea Infusion
Question: Can adding lemon to tea during infusion affect the end product? Does adding lemon to tea during tea infusion affect the caffeine extraction or anything else for that matter?
Answer: heck yeah!! it affects everything. flavor, color, chemical content. once I put lemon in my hair and it turned blond.... imagine that!!!
Question: What sort of tea/infusion can I add hot milk to for a children's bedtime drink that will not taste "yucky"! I always gave my boys hot milk at bedtime to help them sleep and relax them - one didn't like it but he did drink it eventually so long as I skimmed the skin off from time to time!
When my grandsons stay with me they have had the same but recently my middle one (seven) has adamantly refused to drink it and says he has weak tea with lots of milk at home.I don't want to give him tea here because I believe it keeps them awake and can go through them and at least here I want them to have their proper sleep.
I did try China tea which I believe has less caffeine than Indian tea and added the hot milk (about 50/50) but he says it tasted "yucky".What sort of tea/infusion can I add hot milk to so that the drink will taste nice for him and he is having his "tea" yet he still gets the benefit of the bedtime milk?
Best wishes,
Joan.
Thank you for the suggestions - it's not adding things to milk I need - he *insists* on wanting "tea" like he is allowed at home and I want to give him some "tea" like drink that will taste alright when hot milk is added to it.
I am worried about decaffeinated tea because of the process by which it is decaffeinated and also normal tea can go straight through children especially late at night.
Answer: When my children were small they always wanted coffee because it was what we drank all the time. I have to admit I cheated and put a small teaspoonful of black treacle into really hot milk; when it dissolves it tastes like slightly sweet milky coffee, and they loved it. At least black treacle is a reasonably natural substance, and I'm sure it won't do them any harm. Worth a try perhaps.
Question: How tea infusion acts? I'm in my Science Fair project and I would appreciate some good sources that explain tea (or coffee, dunno) infusion.
Yeah, going to a library is the best thing to do, but as I'm coordinating the project, I need some knowledge and organize the ideas of the experiment.
Anyone?
Answer: Tea infusion is a simple biphasic extraction. You have compounds (essential oils, etc.) in the "solid" part of the tea and these get extracted into hot water. You could analyze the absorbance (if you have a simple spectrometer) as a function of time and perhaps water temperature. Getting the mixing to be consistent will be a problem.
Question: What exactly does (tea) infusion mean? I am confused by that word
Answer: Tea is made by steeping the leaves in hot or boiling water.

Question: What is the best way to dry green tea leaves after the first infusion? I have recently started drinking green tea and was wondering if anyone knows the best way to dry the tea leaves after the first or second infusion? I don't want them to get stale or anything. I know that you are supposed to keep them in a dark place until use, but it's hard to do that when you are trying to dry them after the first or second uses. Is it even necessary at that point?
Answer: Hi Lori, yes you can to dry green tea leaves after the first infusion in a dry, dark place, but green tea leaves not accepted to dry. After you have emptied the teapot completely for the first serving, the wet leaves will not continue to steep. You can infuse the leaves again.

Question: berry chai infusion tea from starbucks make your teeth yellow? i drink it every day.. i recently found out all the caffeine it has.. i wanna know if it can make my teeth yellow.. im really concerned
Answer: Hello! I recently did some research on "what causes yellow teeth" and this is what I found... Coffee and Tea are the top two reasons for teeth stains. In fact, dark drinks of all sorts can stain your teeth. Suggestion: swig some water around in your mouth after drinking dark drinks. Also, sipping out of a straw can also SAVE your teeth!!!
Question: Where can I get cranberry infusion tea? Just cranberry, not the Twinings one with other things too....?
Haa, thanks Natasha, what a fool I am! x
Answer: So you want loose tea, not the type in teabags?
You could possibly get it in bulk at the whole foods market, or at any healthfood store.
Otherwise, I think that celestial seasonings might make a purely cranberry tea.
However, if an herbal tea is JUST cranberry, and you don't want it in a tea bag, wouldn't dried cranberries chopped up do the exact same thing?

Question: How do you make clear iced tea, without a trace of cloudiness? And, do you make ice cubes of the tea infusion itself, or do you simply use water to make them.....or .... do you simply chill it and serve it without ice?
Additions? Mint, or orange slices ...or spices? And herb tea bags?
I know to look it up, but it is so much nicer to know other people's experiences.
Ta!
Answer: I used to make a mango iced tea.
I bought VERY expensive mango leave tea from a delicatessen and made a pot of tea.
The left over tea in the pot I used to save (because it was so expensive) and put it into the fridge, to drink later with ordinary ice - it really was good.
Question: Mormon Tea or Infusion? WOW the Mormon tea issue has caused a bit of talk!! it is called that cause what is on the label in when found at some Albertson's. i have seen it in Albertson's and other groceries labeled as "Mormon Tea" if you pick up various herbal and plant ID books of the southwest it is identified as "MORMON TEA"(also called "Young's Tea"). I asked a Mormon Priest about the herb and he knew what i was talking about exactly. check out the history of the use of the tea or infusion. why are there so many Utah herbal companies? if one were to bake into a bread or make food out of teas would a Mormon still eat it? Why do many Mormons eat so unhealthy foods full of chemicals? Why do many Mormons eat meat full of hormones. HYPOCRISY RUNS IN ALL COLOURS. if Lipton labeled their tea an "infusion" would they still drink it? are their any injectable drugs used in Utah hospitals made by infusion. many mormons used to come into our old bakery that certainly confused us. check facts: no hear-say.
perfect answer. i have 1000 spaces to make a point. i did so in fast typing cause i do not have time as you do wiuth nothing to do 'cept be on the 'puter. your answer is perfect and thus i have perfect grammar. i speak everything above from personal experience not hear-say. ulike you who belittle me and are generally not polite which shows the colours of what you are: a blithering heathen and impolite as nearly all believers are, glad you walked into it.
Answer: Wow, that's a mighty fine bunch of babbling. Might I ask a quick question? WHAT IN GOD'S HOLY NAME ARE YOU BLATHERING ABOUT?!?!?
You can go ahead and call it Mormon Tea, and so what if you do? Yes, I know what it is, and no, I can't say that I've ever seen any of the hundreds of Mormons I've known ever drinking it. So here's a quick news flash for you: in every religion, you will find disparity between what the religion asks of people and how people actually behave. In Mormonism, it is regarded that ALL hot beverages--Mormon Tea, Earl Gray, herbal tea, you name it--are to be avoided. The Word of Wisdom says in D&C 89:9 "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly." Hence, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or even Postum is something regarded as a bad idea. Some people in the LDS church have decided to regard this as having been orginally stated because the most prominent hot drinks--coffee and tea--have caffiene, and they've decided to regard this as an indirect prohibition of caffiene-loaded drinks, while thinking things like hot apple cider or hot cocoa or Postum are okay, while Jolt, Coke, and Red Bull, though not hot, are still to be avoided; but the specific text of the LDS doctrine does not agree with that assertion.
But more importantly, what's the big deal about Mormon Tea? Yes, it has ephedra in it, but only a teensy tiny amount of it. There aren't any ephedra junkies lurking in ally ways trying to prostitute themselves out for a bag of Mormon Tea. And ephedra does have some good medicinal applications, especially for people with breathing issues. So why are you getting all bent out of shape?
PS: worry less about the eating and drinking habits of Mormons and maybe focus on your grammatical skills instead.
Cheers.

Question: What is an infusion tea? Is it a mix of different leaves or is it tea made with boiling water? Or what else? thank you
Answer: Infusion is when you pour boiling water onto the dried herbs or tea leaves and let it steep for about 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
A decoction is prepared by adding dried leaves to cold water, then bringing the mixture to a boil, steeping for about 5 minutes.
Question: What kids of tea is good for detoxing my body, clearing my skin and generally cleansing my insides?? also, what are the different kinds of teas? I have been drinking tea for years but I really don't know the difference between tea, herbal tea, infusions etc.....
thanks!
oops...what kind of tea...not kids! hehe
Answer: Green tea is best, followed by Black Pekoe tea (Lipton tea bags are primarily Black Pekoe) and white tea. The jury is still out on herbal teas, so I'd recommend not using them for health benefits right now. The important thing is you need 100% natural brewed tea with nothing added. The bottled stuff from Arizona, Lipton, Nestea and Snapple is LOADED with high fructose corn syrup, which is the root of all dietary evil. Avoid that stuff like the plague.
