Vegetables And Fruits
Question: What is the best vegetables/fruits for guinea pigs? I recently got a guinea pig and I have tried to give him various fruits and vegetables. For example, he did not like broccoli, sweet peppers, spinach, or oranges. He really likes carrots, but I do not think he is suppose to have carrots that often. Any suggestions of fruits and vegetables that are safe for guinea pigs and that they really seem to like? Thanks :)
Answer: Here is a list of most of them you can give:
Red or green bell peppers
Broccoli
Carrot
Kale
Romaine lettuce (not iceburg lettuce)
Celery
Fresh dandilion leaves (from garden)
Fresh grass (from garden)
Baby tomatoes
Parsely
Cucumber
Apples
Pears
Seedless grapes
Satsumer pieces
Corn on the cob
Banana
Green Beans
Strawberries
Baby Sweet corn
Melon
Cauliflower leaves
Try a handful of different vegetables or fruits each day and see which your guinea pig eats. Then you will know what it likes.
Question: How different kinds of vegetables, fruits, flowers were formed ? In this earth we see different kind of vegetables, fruits of different tastes and flowers with different colour and smell. Who created all these things ? How and when ?
Answer: It all comes due to variation at gene level
Question: What vegetables/fruits can I plant right now in Southern California? I am a relatively new gardener, and am interested in growing some vegetables and fruits in my backyard.... I live in Orange County (southern california) and am wondering what types of vegetables I can plant right now? Since I live in southern california (and its almost always sunny) are there any vegetables that are off limits right now???
I am interested in planting: beans, brocoli, carrots, cauliflower, cucumber, onions, garlic, peas, peppers, potatoes, radishes, (summer) squash, tomatoes.
Any advice kindly appreciated.
Thanks!
Answer: According to the University of California, right now you can plant beets, carrots, lettuce, mustard, onions, (green bunching now and bulb onions in Feb.) and turnip. Another resource is the following gardening calendar on the web: gardening-coaches.com/whentoplantveggies.html
Question: How do you get your fruits and vegetables ? I have a hard time eating any type of vegetables or fruits for that matter, but do you :
A: Drink a V8/V8 Fusion juice
B: Actually eat the vegetables/fruits
C: You don't, you'd rather eat cat vomit
Answer: A, B. xD Cat Vomit?
Question: What are all the natural vegetables & Fruits that can develop the growth of Breast will Soya Milk can do this? Hi, My wife met with an accident 3years back and now she was becoming lean and she felt sad about her breast size before it was 36 now it was 32 and she is not taking her food properly. What are all the natural vegetables & Fruits that can develop the growth of Breast will Soya Milk can do this?
Answer: Yes. You may try soya milk.
Question: Are there any fruits or vegetables that can be planted in a mostly shady area? We are hoping to turn our mid-size side yard into a garden, and were hoping to plant vegetables and fruit. Unfortunately, I noticed in the last couple of days that it's mostly shady in that area until about noon, then it only gets about 4 or so hours of afternoon sun. Is that enough to have a successful vegetable/fruit garden? If so, what would be most successful in that type of area?
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Answer: 4 hours of sun is tough - even veggies that grow in part shade usually require 6 hours (and root veggies usually require 8 despite the previous answer to the contrary).
That said - I would still try leafy veggies like lettuce, spinach and chard and kale for sure - they don't need to flower for you to eat them and therefore don't require the amount of sunlight something like a tomato or eggplant would.
The greens will probably grow more slowly and may be a little leggy and they will probably mature later (lots of leafy greens and cole crops actually do better in the summer heat with a little shade) but the flavor should not be terribly affected.
I often throw things in spaces that are not ideal and have radishes, garlic, arugula, mizuna and mustard greens all growing in part shade just fine.
I do find that having the plants near the house with its white walls helps the area stay bright even when it is not in full sun. I also try to make sure the taller plants are east of the shorter plants so the little ones don't get further shaded out.
Keep in mind that you are looking at that area of your garden in the spring, as well. As the days continue to get longer you may get a smidgen more sun on that site than you are right now.
Some other edibles to try for shade include:
blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries, currants, strawberries (just keep in mind these won't be bumper crops), pawpaw, mint and lemon balm (both will spread so watch them or plant them in pots), sage, chives, dill, oregano, borage, chamomile, thyme, fennel, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, cabbage, beets, onions, peas.
Check out the two sites listed below for more lists and guidance.
Good growing!

Answer: D- Daikon
F- Fennel
H- Honeydew Melon
I- Ita Palm

Question: Can I depend on V8 Vfusion to give me 1 serving of vegetables/fruits? I know I shouldn't depend on V8 Vfusion to give me 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit, but can V8 Vfusion give me a least 1 serving?
Nice answers I can't decide so I'll put it to vote.
Answer: It is fine to use as a supplement, but you need to eat FRESH fruits and vegetables every day. Processed ones in juices lose much of their natural vitamins and antioxidants. So, if you can't get fresh ones, that's better than nothing, but it's roughly the equivalent of canned or frozen veggies...not too good.
Question: What are some good, cheap vegetables/fruits? I'm on a ridiculously small budget right now and getting a bit discouraged by a diet of mostly potatoes and oatmeal. I love vegetables and fruit, are there any that I can grab for like under a dollar and make something tasty out of?
Sorry I didn't note this initially: I'm vegetarian!
Answer: Whatever is in season will be cheapest because there will be a surplus. Bananas are the cheapest fruits ever.
Also keep this in mind....
Nutritional Value
Fresh Fruit > Frozen Fruit > Sliced, Refrigerated Fruit > Dry Fruit
Therefore, if anything get frozen fruit as well because it's generally cheap and still good.
Since you're on a super small budget, dont bother with organic...even though it's for the best, but you'll save more money...just wash your fruits well enough before eating.
Same rule goes to vegetables.
Question: Is there anyone I can contact in Zamboanga city about rubber trees, vegetables, seafoods and fruits? I am interested in possibly purchasing vegetables, fruits and seafoods from Zamboanga. I am also interested in possibly purchasing some land with Rubber trees.

Question: Which varities of vegetables, fruits are best to eat for best combination of nutrients? there are only so many, but which are the "staple "ones, that one could eat in a combination in a week , every week,(if needed be) and get all the nutrients they needed.
please include any of the fruits, vegetables, legumes, etc.
and why so for your choices?
Thanks for your answers!
Answer: I always choose darker, nutrient-dense stuff. I want my nutrients, and it seems like you do as well. Here are some staples that I have in the house:
VEG
Zuccini
Yellow Squash
Spinach
Kale
Frozen vegetables of all kinds (peas/carrots, stir fry blend, peppers and onions, frozen diced onion, Mexican blend...I'm big into blends, lol)
Onion
Tomato
Mushrooms (not techincally a veg, but whatever)
Garlic
LEGUMES
Black beans
Natural PB with Flax Seed Oil
Lentils
Hummus
NUTS
A variety of raw nuts
GRAINS
Couscous (cooks quickly)
TVP (soy product)
Whole grain bread or tortillas
FRUIT
Bananas
Dried cranberries (I put these in everything)
OTHER
Ground flax seed (I put it in everything)
Seasame seeds
If I remember, I'll snag cucumber, carrots, brown rice, and sweet potatoes. I typically make a lot of one thing, then freeze it individually. Your real tasties are going to come from your seasonings and cooking methods.
Question: What are some vegetables/fruits/other foods that are water-based or burn calories? I know that watermelon is good because it is water-based, as well as celery and cucumber. Are there any fruits or veggies that burn calories or help metabolism?
Answer: Celery will actually cause you to burn more calories than it will add to your system.
Question: Are there any farms in Alaska to pick vegetables/fruits this summer or fall? I'm in Anchorage, Alaska and I'd like to take my kids to a farm to pick vegetables/fruits later this summer or fall. Are there any farms that allow the public to do this? Maybe somewhere in Wasilla or Palmer?

Question: So if I eat vegetables, protein and fruits how much will I lose do you think? Im just wondering if I start eating only vegetables, fruit, and protein but not chicken or beef or pork how much will I lose by summer june. Also ill probably excersise 3 times a week or more. And in late april and may ill be rollerblading 3 miles about 3 or more times a week.
Answer: You will, remember 85% Diet 15% exercise. So diet is way more important than exercise.
The fruits and vegetables, try to eat more carrots and more raspberries, because sugar is all over strawberries and grapes.
I know you will lose weight if you stay under 1400 calories.
Exercise is like gas to a car, but then again you only want to turn on the radio so you don't need gas (exercise), but if you do exercise, you will speed up the weight loss process big time.
Question: How much do I need to need to eat to maintain a healthy body. (Grains, Meats, vegetables, fruits and such.)? I am currently on a diet like I have said before. I am wondering how much of each i need to eat in order to maintain a healthier body. What I'm asking is how many servings of each food category do I need in order to lose weight after exercising.
(Such as:
Fats
Meat
Dairy
Vegetables
Fruit
Grains)
Answer: Limit the dairy products such as milk, and keep it low-fat. On the other hand, try to eat low-fat/fat-free yoghurt, it's notorious for losing weight. Eat lean meat such as turkey and chicken (breast). Vegetables are always good. Try to eat every 2 or 3 hours to keep your metabolism running. This is my schedule:
8AM: cereals with low fat milk (kickstart metabolism with light breakfast) or oatmeal to vary your breakfast
11: whole wheat bread with two eggs (grains + protein, limit carbs!) or some other sandwich
2: yoghurt (filler up instead of snacking, you can eat fruit instead too)
5: diner, try to keep portion small. Eat steak or chicken/turkey + vegatables.
8PM: some fruit
It helped me to keep my ideal weight while at the same time I can keep working out 3x/week.
Question: Why and how do plants (vegetables; fruits) release gas? Why and how do plants (vegetables; fruits) release gas?
Answer: When they ripen, many vegetables (ex. tomatoes) and fruits (ex. bananas, peaches) produce a gas called ethylene to control the ripening process.
These fruits and veggies are harvested at a young (non-ripe) stage and stored for extended periods of time under controlled atmospheric conditions that prevent the production of ethylene gas. When it is time to go to market, the fruit is gassed with ethylene. The increase in ethylene content triggers a burst in cellular respiration that causes the fruit to ripen quickly and in a uniform manner.
If the oxygen content in a ripening banana is measured using gas chromatography, the respiratory burst is visible as a sharp peak. This peak is referred to as the ethylene climacteric. Technically, any fruit that responds to ethylene in this fashion is referred to as a climacteric fruit.
This biological response to ethylene is the reason why we put peaches in paper bags when we want them to ripen. As the fruit produces ethylene, the gas content builds up in the paper bag. When the ethylene gas content reaches a critical level, the peach responds by increasing it's cellular respiration rate, causing the initiation and acceleration of the ripening process.
