Answer: There have been vegan Olympic gold medalists and a vegan woman can create an ENTIRELY NEW,HEALTHY HUMAN BEING INSIDE OF HER. Many of these children stay vegan and grow up to be perfectly healthy adults. So just keep yourself educated about what you eat and don't let anyone tell you that a veg diet is lacking anything essential.

Just to clear things up, the vegetarian/vegan diet is not composed of salads, vegetables, fruit and fake meat. Fruits and vegetables are always important but they DO NOT make up the largest portion of any healthy diet.
A balanced plant-based diet includes grains(breads, pasta, rice, cereal), legumes(soy, beans, peas, lentils), fruit and vegetables.

Being vegan can be an art, one whose challenge is to take things that involve the suffering of the innocent and change them into something free of cruelty.
If you want to become a lacto-ovo vegetarian, the transition should be quite simple. Almost all meats have widely available commercial replacements. All that you have to do is replace any flesh in your diet (beef, pork, poultry, seafood) with meat analogs or just leave it out altogether.
You should keep in mind that a journey such as this can be quite short but should just be the beginning of a longer one to a plant-based diet with no animal products. This is because of the reality of factory farming in which animals that are kept alive to produce milk, eggs, etc suffer much more and longer than animals that are raised to a certain weight and then slaughtered.http://www.veganoutreach.org/whyvegan/
http://meat.org
Some people use the word "vegan" in reference to this idea, but be aware that applying that label to yourself should always come with the inclusion of wise activism and advocacy.http://www.veganoutreach.org/advocacy/index.html
Two extremely important examples of this are that you should never speak to someone about vegetarianism/veganism without their consent and genuine interest or as a comment on what they are eating AND your dietary beliefs should never be used as an introduction or explanation of who you are as a person. Veg*ism should be something that comes up AFTER people get to know you and they offer you a situation that makes it confusing to withhold the information/discussion. Also, if you are presented something that you choose not to eat or you are
ordering food/eating together somewhere/picking the best place to eat.
When you you hold off on the subject until it's necessary and then act like it isn't a big deal at all, people are usually surprised and WAY more interested and curious than if you were to bring it up when someone's eating or just using it as a conversation starter.
A responsible vegan ALWAYS studies the subject of their own health and how to keep their body completely provided for in every sense. http://www.veganhealth.org/sh
To neglect their body is to define a plant-based diet as unhealthy and is the opposite of helping the animals.
A vegan woman can create an ENTIRELY NEW,HEALTHY HUMAN BEING INSIDE OF HER. Many of these children stay vegan and grow up to be perfectly healthy adults. So just keep yourself educated about what you eat and don't let anyone tell you that a veg diet is lacking anything essential.
Technically the term "vegetarian" does imply that you don't consume anything that comes from the body of an animal that requires killing it. Many ingredients such as gelatin and glycerin are found in many candies, Fig-Newtons, and many of other foods as well as rennet found in many cheeses.
http://www.happycow.net/health-animal-ingredients.html
The best thing to remember is to take your time so that for example: when you are comfortable not eating beef and pork you can then give up chicken when you are sure you can make the commitment permanently.
Depending on your age or reliance on parents or regional options, it may not be best to give yourself a label. The important thing is to do your best to make progress and be committed to your compassion towards animals. Never put your focus onto what you or other people use to describe yourself.
If you meet someone that talks down to people for eating meat, dairy, etc or to you because they think they are "more veg" than you, laugh in their face and tell them they are a disgrace to the entire philosophy. People like this only hurt the idea of veg*ism AND the animals. The point of all of this is to live compassionately and and as free from cruelty as you can, all the while maintaining your health and a positive attitude. People who don't maintain either, need not open their mouths and represent our beliefs.
If you actually choose to read all of this, I hope it helps. If not, feel free to e-mail me if you have questions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a Japanese analogy/proverb that goes like this, "The nail that sticks up is the one that gets hammered down". People are like this everywhere. When you tell your family that it is your personal belief that animals should not be eaten, they take a look at themselves and it can be subconsciously translated into, "What you do is wrong and I choose to be right."
Your parents have probably been taught a huge amount of misinformation by their parents and their teachers while growing up. You really need to research vegetarian diets and health before you even think about saying the "V-word" in front of your parents.
When you have gathered enough information and feel confident in a vegetarian diet's ability to maintain or even improve health, you may mention to them that you have made the decision. They may be shocked, angry, worried, curious or many other things, but you must NEVER react to their behavior and always stay calm. If they are able to speak to you and respect your choice, please tell them everything and answer all questions. If they are rude, inconsiderate, judgmental, violent, or verbally abusive, refuse to continue any conversation until they can speak to you with respect.
The best advice is to study everything that you can about a healthy vegetarian diet and keep yourself in good shape (better than most people your age or than your friends/family if possible). If nobody that you know shows a genuine, positive interest in your choice, don't give them the privilege of the knowledge that you have gathered. Work your way around any attempts they make to trivialize your beliefs and if possible, go shopping with your parents and buy things that aren't obvious veggie fare. Instead of trying to sneak fake meat into the cart, toss in lentil soup, peanut butter, pasta, fruits & veggies or anything else that you have learned is needed to fill any gaps in your diet.

Question: What happens to vitamins and minerals when they're microwaved? Does prolonged microwave heat destroy vitamins/minerals?
Answer: Chemicals react together more quickly when heated.
So the activity of most vitamins and minerals will be 'used up' by heating the food that contains them.
Exposure to air, and to other reactive chemicals, will speed up the process even more. As the structure of the food breaks down, allowing the substances inside to mix, and air to get at them, the vitamins and minerals will be destroyed by reactions with oxygen, each other, and other substances.
Microwave heating is very quick, so 'prolonged' heating can happen in a relatively short time.
Question: Can I pack vitamins and minerals when going on holls? Flying to Ireland and am on a concoxion of vitamins, minerals, flaxeed oil and
the herb Agnus Castus. Will this cause any probs going thro customs etc?? and am I best to take them with my hand luggage?
Answer: I fly into the London airports 3 times a year and have had no problems taking supplements into them. Amino Acids and Piclonate from GNC.
I would advice you to take them in there original bottles and pack them in your checked baggage. Have a good trip and enjoy.
Question: What happens to vitamins and minerals when they microwaved? Does prolonged microwave heat destroy vitamins/minerals?
Answer: you should try it out for yourself...
Question: Proper nutrition(vitamins and minerals) for bodybuilders and athletes? I already take whey protein.
But Im worried about the other stuff like Vitamins, minerals, iron, calcium etc... Im thining of getting some tablets from the pharmacy.
What are some suggestions?
What types of minerals vitamins will I need the most?
Answer: Most supplement manufacturers (Twinlab, EAS, Optimum Nutrition, etc.) has multi-vitamins and vitamin packs. Personally, I think vitamin packs are a waste of money since they usually costs $15-$40 for a one month supply whereas most multi-vitamins are stocked in a 100-130 (and more) days supplies and the cost is no more than $35.
DON'T DEPEND ON PROTEIN SHAKE MIXES FOR YOUR DAILY VITAMIN INTAKE. They only have a percentage of what is needed in vitamins. Keep in mind, also, that when you're lifting weight and exercising, your body is using up most of the vitamins that you're consuming.
But personally in my 23 years of training, I've only used multi-vitamins (Theragran-M, Centrim, etc) and have had no programs yet.
Question: Besides the benefits of vitamins/minerals/fibre/antioxidants, what else is good about veges? If there was a supplement that contained the above, would it still be necessary to eat veges?
Basically, if you can get your RDI of the vitamins/minerals and all the other 'goodies', would you still have to eat your recommended 5 serves of veges a day?
Answer: Yes indeed. Nobody really knows all the nutrient stuff that is in a variety of vegetables. What is known about supplements is that they are the same as certain chemicals that can be found in the vegetables, and at some point these chemicals were also found to be necessary.
You are designed to eat a variety of foods -- you are an omnivore. You evolved along with all these plants. The interaction between the human and the other living things has grown over a very long time.
No way can a list of these few chemicals define all your needs!
Question: Ggetting blood tested for cholosterol. Can doctor test to see if vitamins & minerals, etc are right? ? I have been feeling very sluggish lately (no energy, little desire to do much, etc) and was wondering if maybe I have a deficiency in one of my vitamins or minerals.
Can this be tested by the doctor?
Thanks
Answer: yea they can test...but i was told that low iron can cause them symptoms becuz i have low iron...and all they did to test me was a finger prick...cuz i got it done to see if i could give blood and i couldnt
:((
Question: What vitamins/minerals do I lack if I'm always tired and sleepy ? In general , what is my body lacking ? All throughout the day im always tired and have no energy. Also , what are the best types vitamins to purchase for bone growth and to build muscle mass.
Answer: sounds like you are low on iron. Have you ever had a blood test to get your iron levels checked? if not that might be an idea and while you are at it get your blood sugar levels checked too but usually when you are tired alot its due to lack of iron and could also be a lack of vitamin D. as far as building muscle mass and one growth calcium is always good, but all vitamins are designed more for body health not so much for building muscle the best way to do that is just exercise.
Question: Does anybody know a good website for vitamins nutrients minerals and anything else your body must intake daily? vitamins minerals nutrients carbohydrates everything. i want to know what everything does and what its for and how to inject/obtain/find it. things such as vitamin ABCD and such, and iron and fiber and all that. sorry for the bad grammar to all you English majors, but hit me up.
damn robots get me all excited thinking i got a response!
Answer: This is not a robot response ;). Go to the Nutrilite site (link provided) for a break down of:
Vitamin K, Carbohydrates, Calcium, Protein, Chromium, Fats, Iron, Vitamin ABCDE, Magnesium, Selenium, Omega Fatty Acids, Phytonutrients.
Lots of info but you seem like you want to know it all. Nutrilite is an organic vitamin company with organic farms in Washington and California. Question: What vitamins and minerals assist the body with energy production.? What vitamins and minerals assist the body with energy production.
Since vitamins/minerals do not supply the body with any calories, they do not give the body any energy, so why might some people feel like they have more energy after taking vitamin/mineral supplementation.
Do you recommend taking any vitamin/mineral supplementation? Take into account the body's need, safety, and cost.
Answer: they keep the cells in optimum condition in order to do optimum work
Question: Why don't food manufacturers advertise naturally-occuring vitamins & minerals in their products much? In the competitive world of retail food & drink, it surprises me that manufacturers/farmers don't advertise the naturally occuring levels of vitamins & minerals in their foods. They promote them in so many other ways. In the UK they usually only promote it when they have been fortified, is there some kind of food labeling law about it?
On another matter, I have a tub of vitamin C tablets which like many tablets contain calcium carbonate & magnesium stearate as part of their tabletting base, but they don't mension that it contains calcium & magnesium in the RDA nutritional info list - presumably because they want you to buy their calcium & magnesium tablets? They seem to treat the consumer like mugs, and we so often are!
Answer: after food is process the vitamins and minerals are loss and not mostly there and they expect us to notice its nutritional value because if they mentioned them then what would they say about the ones that don't have nutritional value

Does this work?! if not, do you have any tips to make hair grow faster?
Answer: How To Make My Hair Grow Longer
Hairstyles Catalog
by: Damien R. von Dahlem
As I am sure you have heard, if you cut your hair frequently your hair will grow in faster, longer, and healthier.
Gobbledygook! This myth came from the observation of men's facial hair. As they shaved, the facial hair would indeed grow in thicker. Its called, 'puberty.'
This is because certain male hormones affect facial hair in that manner. They do not affect the hair on the head in the same way. Advertising
To the contrary. Male hormonal activity is what leads to hair thinning and loss on certain parts of the head, but not all. Hence the familiar balding pattern known as 'male pattern baldness.' This same hormonal activity also affects women, but not until much later in life, and in a different pattern.
Cutting your hair only makes it shorter, does not affect the growth rate one iota, and cannot determine the length that your hair will grow to. Maximum hair length is determined by the shape and width of the hair shaft, and that is determined genetically and is not alterable with current technology.
Lastly, hair is neither healthy or unhealthy. It is in fact, dead. Else, it would really hurt to cut it. It is the health of the hair follicle below the outer skin that requires nutrients for good health, and deminished adverse hormonal activity.
So, unless you have split ends or chemically damaged hair, the only need to cut your hair is for the look that you want.
A few things that you can do to ensure that your hair follicle remains healthy and your hair is undamaged, are:
1. Take an inexpensive daily multi vitamin such as 'One-A-Day' or even 'Flintstones.' Your hair likes zinc and biotin and both of the above mentioned vitmins contain ample amounts of these. Don't waste your hard earned money on 'super vitamins.' Your body only requires so many vitamins per day and simply discharges the excess. You can't put twenty gallons in a ten gallon tank. In some instances, over dosing on supplements can actually be fatal.
2. Do not over brush your hair. With every stroke you damage your hair more. Brush only as much as you need to style your hair, then stop.
3. Buy a good quality brush or comb without sharp plastic or metal ridges. This is one of the common factors leading to split ends, as is over brushing.
4. Don't be penny foolish. Buy good quality salon products. The chemicals used in many if not most over the counter shampoos and conditioners, contain very harsh ingredients such as 'ammonium laurel sulfate' which can actually dry your hair out, and cause breakage and split ends. Even worse, many contain a form of silicon, and that can be very bad for your hair.
5. Don't constrict your hair with tight bands, hats, braids and the like. These also lead to split ends and hair breakage.
i got it from the link below =]
i hope it helps!
Question: How does your body know if you are eating or drinking say Slim Fast vs. just taking Vitamins/minerals? How does the body know if you are eating food or using Ensure or Slim Fast, versus, drinking water and taking plenty of vitamins/minerals.? How does the body know the differece. Drinking Slim fast has all the nutrients, and you are drinking it, and not eating, so what is the difference in taking all the vitamins and minerals your body needs everyday in a tablet and drinking plenty of water...anyone know the answer to this, the difference or how our body knows, or is there a differece?
Answer: Very generally, your body consumes either glucose (sugar), proteins, or fat. Minerals and vitamins enter your body, gets broken down and are used in the consumption process, basically assist the consumption process. Slim Fast should not be replacing your water intake really... because only water is water.
Also, slim fast does not have everything you need, it doesn't have fiber, for one (it helps with constipation and digestion). Plus it has a lot of chemicals in it that you probably don't want in your body (any bad chemicals entering your body needs to be broken down into harmless entities, more work for your liver, increases your risk of cancer).
Even vitamin pills aren't the best solution because your body cannot easily absorb its contents as it would in natural food (ie, iron pills, or just a piece of meat, your body can absorb the iron in the meat easier).
So the answer is, is there are a difference in slim fast and vitamins? Not really. Is there a difference in the above and real food, definitely.
Question: Can someone tell me the highest reccomended daily value of each of these vitamins/minerals? I know you can and usually need more than just 100% of each. So, I was going to take a multivitamin, and then take a little extra of a few other vitamins and minerals. Can someoejust tell the the highest reccomended DV of each in either % or mg?
Vitamin D
Calcium
Vitamin C
B-Complex
Answer: vitamin D3 2-3000 iu per day.
Calcium 1000-1200 mg per day, take 1/2 that amount in magnesium for balance
safely take thousands of mg's per day of Vitamin C. it is an excellent antioxidant
all the B's are different and has to be from a "balanced" B supplement
don't forget you are in a natural heath type of forum so FDA guidelines are kind of out of date with cutting age nutritional science
Question: Why do we need so many different vitamins, minerals etc? I've often wondered why it is, scientists and nutritionists say we need. Vitamins A B C D E and even an F, minerals, fatty acids, omegas and all the other stuff too numerous to mention. Yet a cow can eat just grass, as can most land herbivores. Fish only eat fish. Some whales only eat krill yet we wonderful humans seem to need a plethora of different things to be "healthy". Why is this
Fairy coswallop. Animals have eyes, bones etc and they dont need them . If you dont know, just say "im sorry, i dont know".
Answer: I need to feel rusty spoons
Question: What are some vitamins, minerals, or herbs that are especially good for women's health? I am particularly looking for something that will help with regulating the reproductive cycle and promoting hormonal balance. Keep in mind that I wish to conceive some day and I hear that some herbs are not good for you if you wish to bear children in the future. Thanks.
Answer: None. Vitamins have been linked to breast cancer and decreased life span. Exercise and the contraceptive pill regulate the reproductive cycle well.
