Ways To Lower CRP

Question: C-Reactive protein and breastfeeding? My wife just got the results of a bloodtest. Her C-reactive protein (CRP) is way above limit (116mg/L) which may be an indication of a severe viral or bacterial infection (quoting her physician). She also has high fever that gets lower with Tylenol. She is still breastfeeding our 4 months old baby. I came accross many websites mentionning that a mom should not stop breastfeeding especially during infections except in rare cases. Is this one of those cases? Can anyone answer my question or direct me to a site where this is answered?

Answer: Unless there is reason to believe that her illness is caused by a parasite, she can continue to breastfeed. So far, HIV was believed to be the only illness that is transferable, although blood born diseases can be spread if she has cracked or bleeding nipples. West Nile has been shown to be transferred through breastfeeding in at least one confirmed case. Research has shown that parasites can be transferred via breastmilk and they are only starting to examine that. Chances are, if there is something that is transferable in her milk, it has already happened.
