Description
Noni is the common name for Morinda citrifolia, a small evergreen tree found in Polynesia. The roots, stems, bark, leaves, flowers and fruit of the Noni plant have all been used in Polynesian herbal remedies to treat various common diseases and to maintain overall good health. A review by the University of Illinois describes in vitro and animal studies showing antibacterial, antiviral, analgesic, hypotensive, immunological and anticancer activity. There have been no results from human trials found in the literature.
A number of major components have been identified in the noni plant such as potassium, vitamin C, anthraquinones, beta-sitosterol, carotene, vitamin A, flavone glycosides, linoleic acid, caproic acid, ursolic acid, rutin and others.
Dose
Appropriate doses have not been determined in peer reviewed, published journals. The University of Hawaii Cancer Research Center is currently conducting a Phase 1 study sponsored by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health to determine the maximum tolerated dose of noni fruit extract.*
How it is taken
Noni has been administered both orally and topically. Typically, the fruit and fruit juices are eaten to alleviate a variety of ailments. Mixtures of the fruit and leaves are also applied topically for conditions such as arthritis, headaches, burns, sores and wounds.
Side effects
Noni juice may contain anthraquinone constituents, which can interfere with diagnostic tests by discoloring the urine pink to rust.
Possible risks or interactions
Noni, taken orally, is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as it has historically been used to induce abortion.
The fruit juice of the noni plant contains high amounts of potassium. Use of the fruit juice by those with chronic renal insufficiency or using potassium sparing diuretics may lead to increased risk of hyperkalemia.
In a case study reported in the literature, a man who had been drinking a glass of noni juice everyday for several weeks developed acute herbal liver toxicity. After the patient was advised to discontinue the noni juice, enzyme levels returned to normal. Another case study found that a patient taking noni juice developed resistence to coumadin (a blood thinning drug), due to the amount of vitamin K found in the particular commercial product she was using.
Morinda officinalis is sometimes combined with Morinda citrifolia in commercial preparations of noni. Morinda officianalis has been reported to stimulate the kidneys and can exacerbate urinary difficulties.
Quality control is important during harvesting and manufacturing of noni fruit juice to avoid contamination with potentially toxic anthraquinones from the root and bark.

Important Advice
To avoid potential interactions, be sure to let your health care provider know if you use this or any other type of complementary therapy.

Question: Hi im very sick right now, and my teeth and teeth gum hurts alot! help?10pts? My teeth hurts alot. When I try to eat , it feels like the end of the world. When I chew it. It feels like im stabbing aknife into my gum or something. Is this normal? I also have a sore throat and a fever. Which is both getting better. But my teeth hurts like so go damn much. I cant eat anything except for kongee or poridge. I cant even eat tofu or water cooked egg which both are so good and soft. help? Im taking tylenol and Zija
Answer: You probably need some antibiotics to clear whatever infection you have. Go to a dentist and have your teeth looked at like most people would. If you have had a sore throat and a fever, there is something going on. Go to the dentist and your family doctor and get this solved before you really run into serious problems and have to have your teeth out or end up in hospital. GET HELP....
Question: Should we engineer the human genome to include the 8 essential Amino Acids? Of the 20 necessary amino acids, the human body cannot synthesize 8 of them. Would it be considered unethical to engineer the genes for these 8 amino acids into in vitro baby's so they (and their future offspring) could make all 20 required amino acids in their body. Might that lead to a healthier human population without directly affecting the essence of their humanity?

SYNTHESIS OF AMINO ACIDS IN THE ANIMAL ORGANISM

Amino acid
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amino_acid
If that could happen on a large enough scale, might it also reduce the strain on agriculture to feed the world?
Something to think about.
Smoorthy, very good response. Thanks.
I wonder if our distant ancestors possessed the ability to synthesize all 22 amino acids? Selective pressures might have caused us, for whatever reason, to lose that ability in 8 of them?
--------------
Regulating Synthesis: of course animal models would have to be developed and profected, and the best molecular promotors and operators would have to be incorporated.
-----------------
I feel that it isn't the role of science to overly concern itself with the politics of what individuals do with the genertically enhanced traits. That is, I feel, more of a concern for sociologists, government, and society to work out.
----------------------
My though is, if we could get the human body to manufacture all 22 amino acids, that alone might reduce the need for a variety of food intake in order to stimulate better health. That could result in savings to the individual and to the world.
Answer: Its a great idea, but it should be tried first. You never know, maybe ppl havent evolved enzymes to make the 8 essential amino acids for a reason. Even though amino acids are a common metabolite, excess amounts could lead to possible toxicity. Keep in mind that solving the problem is not as simple as throwing in the enzymes that make each amino acid. You need to control the process, you'd need to somehow engineer mechanisms of regulation of synthesis.
Also note that certain amino acid like molecules have other functions in and among cells. GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid) is an amino acid neurotransmitter. What if adding these essential amino acids were to cause increases in certain other signalling molecules that are closely structurally related?
All in all, its a great concept, but sounds like a lot of work because of the potential problems. Ethically I dont really see a problem other than it would not be fair to compare ppl who've been genetically engineered to those whom havent. Suppose this genome patch allows some athletes to become stronger faster than others? That wouldnt be fair would it?

Answer: If its your top back teeth its possible that it is your sinuses if your nose is all blocked up.
The roots of your back teeth are close to your sinuses and if you have sinus problems, it can make it feel like your back upper teeth are hurting.
However it is possible to have sinus problems as well as major dental problems such as dental decay or a dental abscess.
I would suggest seeing a dentist if you are in so much agony just to make sure its not something that is easily fixed.
