10 Superfoods
Question: superfoods - what are the top 10 superfoods?
Answer: Pot Noodles?lol.
Question: Can the benefits of certain foods really be captured in a supplement? I read an article about 10 superfoods and it was apparent that these foods are difficult and sometimes expensive to obtain.
So I was wondering if anyone knows a lot about supplements and if they could really capture the benefits of these foods in a pill form?
Please don't try selling me on a particular supplement and don't send links to websites selling their product.
I want to hear from someone that has been to school on chemistry or medical or whatever field supplements fall under.
Answer: I've studied health and nutrition in college, and one of the themes we discussed was whether vitamin pills or supplement pills were really as good as getting it from a food. There is no way to prove it by opinion but I'm sure there were studies done.. I think that the general idea taht I read about was that the pill is never going to be as good as the food itself. Also, if you are taking a condensed version of any vitamin or anything, your body will not use it all, it will come in too big of a load to "soak up".
But there has to be at least some benefit to taking supplement.. your body wil at least get something out of it, even though it probably cannot get all of it.
Question: What are the healthiest foods you must include in your diet? I watched oprah today and she had the top 10 superfoods but I managed to miss half of them. i got tomatoes, olive oil, spinach, pomegranates, almonds and salmon
Answer: Think of eating foods of all the colors of the rainbow...
Red:
Tomatoes, peppers, cranberries, raspberries, apples, beans, strawberries
Orange:
Carrots, pumpkins, oranges, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, peaches, apricots, mango
Yellow:
Squash, corn, legumes, lemons, banana, eggs, grapefruit, mushrooms, pineapple, sesame seeds, macadamia nuts, cashews, peanuts, quinoa, chickpeas, almonds, pecans, walnuts, brown rice, ginger, beans
Green:
Peppers, cabbage, beans, limes, spinach, kale, honeydew melon, avocado, pears, pesto, celery, zucchini
Purple:
Blueberries, blackberries, currants, beets, red cabbage, eggplant
White:
Potatoes, tofu, onions, garlic, whole oats, cauliflower
Here is another one of those lists:
1) Almonds and Other Nuts
2) Beans and Other Legumes
3) Spinach and Other Green Vegetables
4) Dairy Products
5) Instant Oatmeal
6) Eggs
7) Turkey and Other Lean Meats
8) Peanut Butter
9) Olive Oil
10) Whole-Grain Breads and Cereals
11) Extra-Protein (Whey) Powder
12) Raspberries and Other Berries
Mind you, as a trainer I don't wholly agree with the list.
Many "diets" have their superfood list.
My recommendation is simple
With every meal try to get:
A lean protein plus
A starchy carb plus
A fibrous carb
and
Avoid simple sugars
Minimize saturated fats
Elimininate hydrogenated fats
Minimize processed foods
Try to get a small meal every 3-4 hours. Eat until you are not hungry, and do it again in 3-4 hours.
Question: Is Green Tea 10,000mg extract even legal? I love my Green Tea but I find it difficult to get around the required 6-8 cups daily for optimal health. I've been researching online and have found a 300mg extract which equivalent to 4-5 cups of tea: http://www.reflex-nutrition.com/en/fat-loss/polyphenols/green-tea.php and I've also come across a 10,000mg! extract as well : http://www.weightworld.co.uk/green-tea-extract.html?utm_source=gbase&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=ultra-green-tea-extract-2-pack&utm_campaign=superfoods Is 10,000mg even legal? Wouldn't that have a shocking amount of caffeine in it, and wouldn't that be like 50 cups of tea in one capsule? Or would it benefit me more because it is extremely more richer in antioxidants? Any advice will be helpful, thank you!
Answer: They carefully don't say in the ad.
If you are drinking green tea for weight loss forget it. Black tea has antioxidants etc too. Antioxidants do not aid weight loss.
You don't have to drink up tp 8 cups of green tea, it's only the ad flogging the stuff that tells you to.
Are you advertising the products on your links?

Question: 10-15 pounds asap? 10-15 pounds asap?
I would like to lose the first ten in a month or so, what i really want is a new lifestyle, i'm not that unhealthy of an eater, just a stubborn wight loser
my weight doesn't come off easily!!
I weigh 150 or so and i'm 14 years old, i'm 5ft-6 to 5ft-7 I run and workout everyday, half hour weights, 20 minutes or so of cardio and crunches and leg lifts. The wight really isn't coming off, i've been eating healthy and drinking green tea, what else can i do???
NO HOODIA!!
Im open to anything with tea or other diet "superfoods"
Answer: Increase your cardio and try to stay on top of how many calories you take in. If you know what you take in, you know what you need to burn.
I would do at least 45 minutes of intense cardio every day, while eating healthy.
Oh, and how i can forget. Drink TONS of water. My trainer drinks a gallon of water every day.
Question: Does Anyone Like DecaSlim? I just found out about a diet pill called decaslim (deca slim). It contains TIME magazines 10 "SuperFoods". Time picked the foods because they help weight loss, acne, inflammation, etc. Anyone tried it??? Is it worth trying???
http://www.decaslim.com
Answer: I tried one bottle because my best friend recommended it. Granted, I just started a new diet, but with that and Decaslim, I've lost 9 pounds! I haven't lost that much weight in 6 or 7 years. Something must be good about it.
Question: superfoods? OK i need the 10 healthiest foods out there. What what your top 10 be??? cheers in advance, WIll
Answer: Salmon, green/red bell peppers, garlic, whole wheat/grain bread, artichoke, apples, orange, pasta, spinach and snake's heart
Question: Can you O.D. on "green superfoods" like wheatgrass powder? I found this detox idea that I want to try for a couple of days:
Mix one teaspoon of green powder (I have a mix of chlorella, wheatgrass, barleygrass, and alfalfa in my green powder) with a glass of fresh unsweetened fruit juice. Have two glasses in the morning and one glass whenever you start to feel hungry throughout the day. This can be done up to 10 days.
It sounds pretty easy, but what worries me is that the dosage on the box of green powder says to have one to two teaspoons a day... but this diet recommends having like as much as you want, could be three or four times the recommended dose.
So, can you overdose on these green supplements? Aren't they pretty much harmless?
Answer: If you have too much of these super foods you would probably get the runs as these super foods are usually laxative in large amounts.
Question: What lunch would be good for a late-teenager on a healthkick and her friends? Superfoods? My bestie has invited a friend to a picnic. Usually we bring crisps, cakes, coke, etc, but the friend shes invited is on a health kick. She is not v overweight (maybe a stone at most), but feels unhealthy. We will bring lunch for all 3 of us.
We will probably have a total budget of about £10 inc drinks. On the day we will need to prepare the food without her, as we want the dishes to be a bit of a surprise. She doesnt eat a lot of fruit and veg at home, but she does like it. PLEASE note she is not on a diet or anything, and i have not recommended that she cuts out stuff which we all like to eat like choc and crisps entirely. She just wants to feel a bit healthier and improve her confidence. Recipe ideas please?
Easy to prepare:salads w/ tomatoes, peppers, smoked fish (shes vegetarian) etc; things with nuts, raisins, berries, fruit dishes, yoghurt, basically nutritional but not too fussy to make or v expensive, the focus is on health and good taste. Ideas plz, no prepack/takeaways! x
I WROTE THAT SHES A VEGETARIAN lol THANKS ANYWAYS I MIGHT HAVE THE FAJITAS MESELF ;)
Yeah, I was thinking more cold, snack foods though I don't mind a bit of cooking...
Answer: How about...
Tabouleh Salad
1/2 cup medium grain bulgur
1 1/4 cups water
2 cups loosely packed, roughly chopped flat-leaf parsley, about 1-2 bunches
2 cups peeled and diced tomatoes, 5-7 Roma tomatoes,
1 cup seeded diced cucumber or 1 cup diced zucchini
1/4 cup green onions chopped, white and some of the green, about 2 green onions
1/4 to 1/2 cup loosely packed, roughly chopped mint leaves
For the dressing:
1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon minced garlic
Pinch kosher salt
2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
Bring water to a boil, pour in bulgur, stir, cover, and turn off heat. Let stand 20 to 25 minutes or until most of the liquid is absorbed and bulgur is fluffy and tender. Pour off any remaining liquid.
To prepare dressing, in a small non-reactive bowl, whisk together lemon juice, garlic, salt and oil. Taste and adjust seasonings.
In a large salad bowl, toss together parsley, vegetables, green onions and mint. Add bulgur. Pour dressing over salad, toss to combine. Taste and adjust seasonings. CHILL in refrigerator for at least an hour. Stir before serving.
Serving Suggestion:
Lightly grill some boneless, skinless chicken breast, dice, toss with the tabbouleh and wrap it up in fresh pita.
This is healthy, light, refreshing and very portable. Oh I like it with finely chopped walnuts or pecans added also.
And you can alternatively prepare the chicken seperately as fingers and make a yogurt based dip for them, maybe curried?
Curried Yogurt Dip
¾ cups Plain yogurt
2 teaspoon Curry powder
1 teaspoon Lemon juice
½ teaspoon Honey
dash of Black pepper
dash of Cayenne
You could even put the chicken and dipping sauce in the pitas as your main course and have the tabouleh on the side.
Question: Lazy and getting chubby...? I used to have a great figure without trying. But then I graduated (no more mandatory physical education), and moved out (no more Mom making me eat healthy. Now I'm getting a little squishy and I want to get back to the way I was. Maybe about 20 lbs. I'd be happy to lose even 10 lbs.
I know diet and exercise are the best methods for weight loss, but I've always hated sports, running, basically all physical activity haha.
...so any tips for staying motivated? Any products that work without really bad side effects? I'm trying to eat healthier too, any superfoods or tips on staying on track?
Answer: Eat less, burn more. Do this and you will lose weight,., but you must stick to it or nothing will happen.
