Coral Calcium
Question: This is a vitamin question. What is the difference between taking calcium and taking coral calcium? In other words, how does coral calcium differ from regular calcium?
Answer: Coral calcium is a marketing scam (suppose to make your body more "alkaline". It is basically calcium carbonate, a cheap form of calcium which is poorly absorbed because minerals need an acidic environment in the stomach to be absorbed properly. Calcium citrate is a much better form.
Question: What is the difference, if any, between regular calcium and CORAL calcium? I couldn't find my regular calcium supplement at the health food store yesterday and ended up buying one described as "coral calcium". Can someone please enlighten me as to what the difference is? Thanks!
Answer: Coral calcium is supposed to be more bioavailable. Many attribute the longevity of some Japanese who live near an old coral deposit and drink the water that flows through it to the coral's calcium and other nutrients.
Question: What is the difference between Coral Calcium and? Calcium (from Coral)?? I'm taking a Coral calcium supplement and on the supplement facts it states:
Calcium (from coral) 420mg
Coral Calcium 1.2g
Sounds like the same thing to me...really confused...hope someone can help me out...thank you!!
Answer: Calcium (from coral) 420mg: It is the same substance but in smaller quantity as the Coral Calcium 1.2g
I personally would get the Coral Calcium 1.2g because your getting more grams of coral calcium than the 420 milligrams.
Question: coral calcium? anyone had any bad experiences with that stuff...specifically the granual kind that u put at the bottom of ur water bottle?
oh ok thanks....umm...ya my side has been hurting near my ribs...didn't know if it was connected cuz of the timing but...maybe some of the stuff got stuck in my system or something :S
Answer: We've been selling it for years, and I can say that we've had 2 complaints in that whole time (1 from stomach upset, 1 complaining that it "didn't work"... hoo boy. LOL!). The main issues (not complaints, but more concerns) that people may have are that it doesn't have as much Vitamin D as other products or that they have to take so many pills throughout the day... neither of which is a problem with the product itself, but the common formulation (since Vitamin D isn't in the Coral and you need a few pills of Calcium throughout the day for optimal benefits).
I've never heard of people using granulated Coral Calcium in the bottom of their water bottle, nor would I recommend it unless it was in some protective casing that made sure it wouldn't get out of the bottle. The main reason is that if a little chunk gets into your mouth, some people may get startled to feel a chunk of something and choke on the water, plus (depending on the size and numbers of the chunks) it may be too much Calcium for the day and/or may not get absorbed properly because of the size. I've heard of powdered forms of Coral Calcium that you put in water and drink immediately, but it sounds different than what you're mentioning.
I hope I helped!
Question: Does anyone on Yahoo answers know where can buy coral calcium? coral calcium has claimed to prevent cancer, where can I get some locally do they sell it at walmart or somewhere like that?

Who puts a paint-thin layer of calcium
deposit on 1/2 stainless tubing?
Comments and suggestions appreciated.
Answer: I think youre best chance is to find a company involved in human implants like hips, they use calcium coatings applied by plasma spraying.
Question: Does coral calcium really work miracles or is it all hype? I bought some half price.? Also doesn't this involve destroying coral reefs to get it?
Answer: The coral calcium that is currently being touted as a cure-all for everything from cancer to diabetes is harvested off the coast of Okinawa. Because it is taken from above ground limestone deposits that are no longer part of the reef, it is ecologically safe.
The claim is that the water imbues the coral with trace minerals which have healing properties. However, no study has found any advantage of coral calcium (at $100) over other forms of calcium carbonate.
Question: what is coral calcium and does it have any side effects? I am researchng supplements for osteoarthritis and would like an unbiased response rather than the pharmaceutical company 'peddling their wares' so to speak!
Answer: Coral calcium is the ground up shell of coral.
The people who sell it claim that your body is able to more efficiently absorb coral calcium than manufactured calcium found in vitamin tablets.
I don't know if that is true or not. I took coral calcium for about 6 months when I stopped drinking milk and eating milk-based products. I feel so much better after stopping eating milk and I did not notice any side effects from taking the coral calcium.
I stopped taking the coral calcium after I started eating more of the dark green veggies and now regularily drink soy milk which contains good amounts of calcium.
You would do best getting calcium from foods than from supplements which will always be harder to get nutrients from than the food source. I would suggest making sure that you get your calcium from a variety of sources rather than just focusing on a single source type (like dairy or supplements).
Question: What do you think about coral calcium? Im starting to take coral calcium pills to get more calcium since i dont drink cow milk
lately my bones have been hurting like currently my leg is hurting and back...i have no idea why...i probably need more calcium? i dont know
is coral calcium healthy
what do i need
Answer: Okay, I worked for a company who took orders for coral calcium. It is no different than regular calcium supplements, just marketed differently and therefore more expensive. You need to take vitamin D to get the calcium to absorb though.
Try getting a good multivitamin. The great thing about vitamins and your body is that it pees out the excess, so you really have to be overdoing it to overdose on them.
You should go get checked out by a doctor, assuming you're a full grown adult, there are many things that can make your bones hurt, osteoporosis only being one. It could be a bone marrow problem, or even lukemia. So it's best to get tested to find out the best pain management ideas from a physician.
Good luck!
Question: Coral Calcium, is it good or bad for you? I have heard that is it good for your bone structure to help prevent bone degeneration. It has been said to help heal the body of cancers etc..They say that Coral Calium is made from limstone that is above ground and was once a coral reef and still may have a few minerals left. Dos that mean that people are selling powdered limestone, and why would that help our bodies?
Carnac, Thanks, I did check a few websites and they all say the same thing. So I still am at a loss as what to believe.
Answer: I don't know for sure but what you say reminds me of an infomercial I heard on the radio. Informercials tend to be deceptive and are never to be believed without doing your own fact checking.
Question: Coral question? Where do corals obtain their calcium carbonate? do coral obtain calcium carbonate from fish bones or do they make them their self?
add any that is related to this.
thank you.
Answer: Corals form their calciferous exoskeletons (which consist of Calcium carbonate, CaCO3) by depositing a mineral known as aragonite from the polyps. This mineral is acquired from calcium ions in the water.
Saltwater is a complex soup of minerals, and contains almost every single element on earth in small concentrations.
Question: What calcium absorbs the best calcium carbonate or citrate? Coral Calcium?
Answer: Calcium Carbonate yields more Calcium for the same dosage. However, Calcium Citrate can be taken on an empty stomache. So, it's kind of a toss up.
Coral Calcium is just Calcium Carbonate.
Question: What can you tell me about coral calcium?
Answer: Long time reefkeeper here.
Uh. Basically it's CaCO3. There's nothing particularly special about it, it's created using Ca++ ions dissolved in sea water, and is usually one of the limiting factors in coral growth.
As far as biological activity in humans, it's pretty much like regular calcium carbonate, a mild antacid, used as filler in pills. It's got one other obscure use that has to do with near total kidney failure, and I honestly can't remember at 2 AM.
Question: will coral calcium cure my acid reflux? has anyone ever tried coral calcium for anything? and did it cure it? my dad was taking coral calcium for a few months, and he hasnt had heartburn in a year cause of it. Do you think it really works?
Answer: From what I know it has the potential to work but it is supposed to be accompanied by a few other things, here is what I found in my search, I suffer from Reflux severely.
You want to do your best, but if you are like I am then you need the caffeine because of an addiction. This is alright as long as you watch how you do it. For instance you want to use honey in place of sugar to sweeten it, also yes you want to use green tea that is the best. If you use the caffeine free type of green tea that is the best because it still has caffeine but not enought to case an issue with teh reflux. Here are some more pointers.
I am not a doctor, so either way you will want to talk to them, but this is what I have to say as a long time sufferer of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.)!
Three part answer information, what not to do, and what to do!
INFORMATION!!!!!!
I have a very severe case of Acid Reflux (G.E.R.D.). I have had to go to the hospital for some of the heartburn that I have had because the pain can become overwhelming or your breathing can be effected. It can be caused by Smoking, Drinking Beverages with caffeine (My case), Drinking Beverages with Alcohol, or can be Hereditary
The good thing about G.E.R.D. is that it can be a temporary thing and can be cured. It is never a permit thing even if you end up with it for the rest of your life it has the ability to be cured.
G.E.R.D. is caused by too much acid being created in your stomach. This can lead to or cause ulcers, esophagus damage, heartburn and/or damage in the mouth.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!!!!!!
In most cases, stress is a factor to the reflux if you watch what you eat and reduce some of the stress it will help. If you watch what you eat for about a week you should find relief, if you do not then that is when you definitely what to listen to the doctor. Things to watch for are as follows:
Fatty Foods
Citrus Foods
Foods That Contain Grease
Fried Foods
Chocolate (including any Coco)
Caffeine
Smoking
Alcohol
Tomato Based Products
Lactose
WHAT TO DO!!!!
The two foods that I recommend is Black strap Molasses and Raw honey. The apple is better for night time reflux while these will work for just about all of it. What you will do is take about a tsp. of whatever one you chose. Molasses being the better because of strength and nutrition, but must be use to the taste. What the substance will do is stick to the sides of the esophagus and do two things, one is heal and the other is protect.
On the healing end, both substances have a healing property in them, and as they sit on the walls of the esophagus they will heal it. This is also helpful if you have a sore throat in the morning from refluxing.
On the protection end, both substances are high in sugar and when acid that is refluxed comes up to that the sugar will neutralize it and it will not longer be a problem at that point.
I would also look to putting Cinnamon in you diet, it has been know to help with digestion and will help you reduce the amount of acid needed to brake down food, therefore causing you to reflux less.
Question: How does the calcium extract from the coral? Is the calcium extracted when the coral is alive?
Answer: depends on the type, there is sea coral calcium and fossilized coral calcium. The fossilized type is found buried on different land sites and is typically more pure than the sea coral calcium. To obtain the sea coral calcium, they use huge vacuums and basically just suck up as much coral as they can from the ocean floor. they then take it off to be processed in various facilities, so no the coral doesn't survive the process.
Question: Where can I buy coral calcium?
Answer: http://www.chineseherbsdirect.com/product_info.php?products_id=466&ysmwa=nRhl5ul822WgdRMAq3TcjfhgycK12Tp-IQTKsFsQL8h8kmI0e1Bk87Pp_3TPL3vhhttp://www.natureshealthcompany.com/coral.htm
