Answer: HGH is one of the most difficult things to test for in sports. Not only can it be produced by the body but the only known way to test for it is through a very unriliable urine-test. this is why when a player orders HGH they are immediatly swamped by the media, MLB doesnt really have any other way to find out about HGH besides the orders. Researchers are working on ways to test for it, and they are thinking the soonest full-season they will be able to test would be 2010

Question: Do growth enhancers/supplements actually work? Hi, im a pretty short guy (mostly because of my asian roots). im only 5'6" and im 17. I wish to grow taller maybe to 5'8" or higher. Question: Why do you consider HGH a Performance Enhancer? Specifically, I'd like to know why you consider it a performance enhancer if someone is using it to help them recover from an injury and if it was prescribed by a doctor. I looked up the potential side effects from it and they all seem pretty minor (arthritis, carpel tunnel,etc). Cortisone shots are legal and the potential side effects from those include ligament and joint damage. I have to do a paper on this and think there is nothing wrong with using it for rehabing an injury. I agree Roids are bad but HGH when used properly seems fine.

Question: do you believe that Roger Clemens is using hgh or steroids ? roger is arguably the greatest picther of all-time. however that same sneeky suspicion that i had about barry bonds, jose conseco and a hand full of other athletes cheating always creeps into my mind in regards to clemens. i believe he is cheating big time. he shows all the classic signs of a someone who uses performance enhancers. the fact that barry bonds can be ridiculed, recieve hate mail and death threats based on suspcion alone but clemens does not i find very interesting. the fact that this man can excell and in some cases improve into his mid 40's is unheard of, i would even go as far as to say impossible. i believe that the truth will come out one day in the distant future and the mythology of another sports icon will be shattered.

Answer: I think you have to question any player who is as good in his 40's as he was in his 20's. The natural progression for the last 100 years of baseball was that a guy peaks around 27 to 30 and then begins a gradual decline after that. Look at Griffey, Thomas, Maddux, and Pedro as examples. Clemens, Sosa, McGuire, and Bonds all got better in their late 30's. Some of them quite suddenly. I do not doubt that Clemens has juiced, he is from the generation where that is most common, hasn't had a natural decline and has gotten larger in the upper body has he has aged.

Answer: Testosterone boosters are in a different league than steroids and real HGH. The over the counter HGH aren't that great. I wouldn't waste my money on them. Legal steroids (prohormones) that you can buy come in a very wide variety. And as a result they have really different results and risks. The legal steroids range from weak steroids to medium strength steroids. If you take the medium/mild strength over the counter steroids you can get into lots of trouble. Leaky breasts, gyno, balding, roid rage, delayed estrogen rebound (even with a good post cycle therapy), shut down (gonads stop working ie. no sex drive: fairly common), testicular atrophy and probably more. Another problem with steroids is that after a couple of cycles they stop working. They down regulate your androgen receptor. So you end either having to take larger doses of steroids or go up to more powerful steroids. As a result you get more severe side effects. I would say that overall taking steroids is not worth it. For the gains and the risks you are probably better off in life to just take your protein or weight gainer. You'll get the same results over time with a proper exercise program and diet.

Answer: I agree - you really can't be serious about this. But just in case, here's a couple of reasons why it doesn't make sense. 1. As mentioned earlier, Lasik is actually legal. 2. Lasik is a surgical procedure meant to correct an imperfection. It would be no different than someone with bad knees having them scoped, or a player getting "tommy John" surgery. 3. What Lasik does can also be done with corrective eyewear. What HGH or steroids do can not be duplicated in a different fashion. 4. How would you enforce such a ban? Make players get their eyesight tested and suspend those with really good eyesight? That might work, except that the easiest thing in the world to fake would be bad eyes. Just miss a couple letters, and you're all set. 5. For that matter, why not ban any kind of eye correction? No glasses, no contacts. If God had meant for you to hit a baseball, he would have given you perfect vision. If you are going to ban Lasik, you may as well ban any other surgical procedure that allows a player to play. Broken leg? Sorry - no surgery for you. Busted appendix? Too bad - can't play anymore. Sorry - just doesn't make much sense.
