Answer: Basically because its so prevalent. As bad as it sounds, so many people do steroids that its really okay. The outcome of games aren't changed because there's steroid users on every single team, probably going back as far as 15 maybe 20 years. And both pitchers and hitters use steroids, so neither side really has much of an advantage. Where steroids does seem to make a difference is when guys like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens get older, and they're even better than they were 10 years before. Enough players that aren't that good have been caught with steroids that its obvious you need to be incredibly talented to do the things that A-Rod and Bonds have done. I know that baseball is a game of numbers, but Barry Bonds having more career home runs than Hank Aaron doesn't take anything away from Aaron's legacy in my mind, and him having more single season home runs than Maris doesn't take anything away from Maris' in my mind. If you're so closed minded you really need to see Maris and Aaron at the top of the list and can't take into account the difference in eras then that's your problem. Do you really think Ty Cobb would have a .366 career average if he started playing today? I'm sure he'd be a great player, but even Ichiro wouldn't flirt with .366 for an entire career, and if he couldn't do it nobody could. The analogy between the deadball era and the steroid era isn't perfect, but if you're willing to accept the fact that around the early-mid 90s a legitimate steroid culture was born in MLB, then it's pretty close. Steroids isn't cheating because so many people do it. Look at the Mitchell report, there's tons of players of all qualities and longevities and teams, and we don't even know 5 of the 103 guys that actually tested positive. AND that's just the players that's there's evidence against, imagine how many have gotten away with it. I agree that it sort of sucks, but I love baseball too much to let something like steroids get in the way.

Answer: I try to post an answer to all questions that involve people thinking of using anabolic steroids, in the hope that I might convince one or two of you lunatics not to do it! In the UK at least no steroids can or should be available without a doctor's prescription. They may not be illegal to take, but they do indicate a head in the sand mentality! It is fascinating to read the reassurances that there are no risks from anabolic steroids, displayed on sites that sell them. They have presumably never had a relative have an early stroke or heart attack. Side effects of anabolic steroids include : raising blood pressure,raising cholesterol, (both of which increase cardiovascular disease), physical damage to the heart itself, premature baldness, liver damage, the formation of breast tissue in males, liver damage, impotence, shrinking of the testicles and infertility. Women can become hairy, develop a deep voice, and growth can be stunted in adolescents. They also increase both aggression and depression. So if you would like to spend your life as a depressed, short bald guy with small testicles,boobs and impotence who has an heart attack, this is the way for you!

Question: How to quit steroids and what are the effects of quitting? A friend of mine has a son who is in 9th grade and she has recently found that he is using steroids. He is extremely aggressive and depressed. What is the safest way to get him to stop using? What are the side effects to expect when coming off of them? Answer: Side effects of getting off of it he will feel weak, Depressed, and less aggressive. He should be suppervised at all times. Possibly go see a doctor. Stereriods are serious things with serious consequences.

Answer: What up Hoopdream, i think it's tough because we're really limited on information. First there are so many types of steroids out there- and you still don't know who's telling the truth about knowing taking something and unknowingly taking it- we know that there are some who took banned substances which they didn't realize was in some other supplement they had taken (and we also are not naive enough to believe) that some who say that aren't lying. But there has been no conculsive study which shows how the steroids effect that person. Perhaps it helped them to work out longer and that created more muscle (which we know in any sport is always a good thing - to be bigger and stronger). I mean baseball still is a game with skill- you still have to hit the ball (the season is twice as long as basketball) and i just think it's tough to compare the same sports. The same skills in some cases are required but applied in different ways (ie: hand/eye coordination) to shoot a basketball but also to hit a fastball or curveball coming in over 90 mph. Even though i love basketball infinitely more times than i love baseball - it's not fair to say that baseball does not require skill. Anyone who doesn't play professionally and has ever gone into a batting cage at the mini-golf course where the ball comes at you over 70 mph knows it isn't easy to hit that ball. We also know how big in Sports a psychological edge is- maybe you get new basketball shoes and you start shooting well- you start thinking it's the shoes, etc. And perhaps with steroids- the confidence that they have this edge- changes the player's attitude and that can contribute to their success- and we know success breeds success. So it's really hard to draw a firm conclusion- but i would say both sports takes skills- and i'm glad that the NBA right now is not dealing with the same drug issues that the MLB and NFL are dealing with. Answer: roids are taken by injecting or pills. There are many different steroids that you can take for bulking up and cutting. each steroid is different with different amounts needed per day/week. normal cycle(peroid taken) is between 8-12 weeks. for best results inject and you stack the steroids ( stacking is taking 2-4 steroids at the same time). some weak steroids such as anavar and t-bol have hardly any BAD side effects but small gains. where as takin anadrol will give you a large gain but lots of sides. side effects are/can be aggression, hair loss, shrinking of the testicles, female hormones released start to form breast's/built up tissue around the male pectorial muscle ( bitch tits), acne on the back and alot of roids are toxic to the liver. go onto steroid.com and become a member, go on the forum and look up any question you want and they have the answers. sorry if i missed some things out

However, drug tests are more selective than these receptors, and so a different drug test has to be developed for each anabolic steroid. Why is this?

Answer: because each one has a slightly different metabolite... most steroids are slight variations of testosterone and when your body metabolises them, each one creates a slightly diff metabolite.. if you are taking testosterone though, then a blood test must be used.. your body alread has testosterone in it so the precense of testosterone metabolites does not necessarily mean a postitive for steroid use,, test is normally tested for using some type of medically accepted scale that creates limits for the normal amount of test that would be in a normal person of a certain age etc... if you have more test floating around in you then you are suspected of adding into your system

Answer: For me. It really depends on how long a player used them. If a player tried it out once while it was not illegal just to see what it was like then no big deal. If a player repeatedly used and abused it while it was an illegal/banned substance then we have a problem.
