Question: How do I become a USDA or privately licensed kennel inspector? After all that we know about puppy mills, it seems like some inspectors get "bought out." What training does someone have to have to become a certified kennel inspector? Can anyone do it? Do you have to go through the USDA or can you become a private inspector? What constitutes as an acceptable kennel?

Answer: Contact the HSUS Their info, phone number is on their site on left http://www.hsus.org I think there is a person named Stephanie Shain there who has a lot of information about the whole puppy mill inspection thing. here is it, I got it from the site The Humane Society of the United States 2100 L Street, NW Washington, DC 20037 202-452-1100 Here is info about the USDA inspection problems http://www.idausa.org/campaigns/puppy/puppymills.html And I just found this. Scroll down to the comments and the articles by reporter Steve Neavling of the Detroit Free Press who writes about the USDA inspection problems. http://hollywooddog.blogspot.com/2007/12/posh-puppy-of-tarzana-and-beverly-hills.html especially the one titled OVERSIGHT OF BREEDERS: Agency faulted for not cracking down on violators Also see this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4r-FcXAXcE (the inspectors that inspect puppy mills are NOT licensed vets, and it doesn't matter because there are vets that WORK FOR puppy mills or even run them. Some vets do indeed help this kind of thing go on. The USDA inspectors themselves have admitted that the USDA has been helping puppy mills, not policing them, and that the USDA is a mess when it comes to puppy mills.)
