Question: accutane..........................? What to do to prevent acne from forming after accutane? please im almost clear im like 70% clear and after i stop taking accutane i wanna know whats good to keep my acne from forming . So if someone can please tell me... like any gentle washes that are good for acne and all that sort of stuff please im so excited right now and well want to keep being excited for ever lol
Answer: Try Skin ID from Nutregena (order on line)
Or the other good acne line is from Arbonne (but you have to find a local rep) it's all natural and has a vitamin supplement.
Berts Bee (may not be strong enough)
Proactive.
Ask your MD what they suggest since you sacrificed a lot taking the medication (side effects but clear skin).
Question: Whats the difference between Accutane and Generic Accutane? I've been doing some searches on Accutane and notice that some pharmacy's are selling generic accutane for less than just accutane itself. Why is that? Does it mean that the generic is less effective than the other?
Answer: There is no difference, same working ingredients! Different packaging/shape of product does not impact the effectiveness.
It's that brand name and advertising you pay for.
Question: How commonly does accutane effect getting new tattoos? I've been on accutane for about 6 months now, and I've heard that accutane can cause new tattoos to scar. Has this happened to anyone. Like personal experience?
Answer: Ask a dermatologist. Having your skin defaced by a tattoo is as bad as having a scar anyway.
Question: Does Accutane work by slowing down the activity of the sebacious glands? Is this how it works? In other words, will Accutane help with oily skin as well?
Answer: Isotretinoin (Accutane) noticeably reduces the production of sebum and shrinks the sebaceous glands. It stabilizes keratinization and prevents comedones from forming.
It may help with oily skin, and can even cause dry skin.
Question: If I stop taking Accutane can i start a new medication right away? I stop taking my accutane mid third month because it just wasn't working at all. I have a derm appointment tomorrow can my derm give me a new prescription for another medicine or do i have to wait a certain amount of time, when the Accutane is out of my system?
Thank you:)
Answer: You do realize that Accutane is the most powerful acne medication on the market, right? There is nothing your doctor can give you that would work better than Accutane in clearing up your skin. Trust me -- I've been having bad acne problems for over a decade, and I've tried pretty much EVERYTHING. Take it from me, Accutane is the ONLY thing out there that will help you.
Instead of switching you to another medication, your dermatologist will most likely just tell you to keep taking the Accutane until you start to see results. The reason why you haven't been noticing results yet is because Accutane typically takes 4-6 months to clear up a person's skin. Since you've only been taking it for three months, you shouldn't give up yet. Just try to be patient and keep taking it every day. Keep in mind that Accutane doesn't work for some people the first time around, and so they must be "retreated" for an additional 4 to 6 months in order for the Accutane to clear up their skin. Accutane barely did anything for one of my friends with really bad acne during her first 6-month course, so her doctor gave it to her for another 6 months and that's when she started noticing results.
Just be patient and keep taking it. That's the best advice I could give you. Nothing else is going to help you. Let the Accutane run its course and if your skin hasn't cleared up after six months of taking it, then consult your doctor about possibly starting another course.
Question: How much does accutane cost, and is it hard to find a dermatologist? Does anyone know how much it costs to get Accutane? Mind you I don't have any insurance and am living on my own. I go to school part time and work part time. I was wondering if I might be able to afford it.
For those of you who have insurance, how much does the insurance company pay, and how much do you pay? Should I look into getting an insurance provider or would it cost about the same if I were to pay out of pocket?
Also, is it hard to find a dermatologist? How does one go about finding one? Maybe the dermatologist can help me find an insurance carrier that would help with the costs.
And are there other costs for being on this medicine? I'm pretty sure the visits to the dermatologist will cost money, and the cost of gas for getting to and from the office. Anything else?
Thanks for all your help.
Answer: Accutane cost alot. Determatologist are not hard to find and or not that expensive. You may not even Accutane, that's only for people with severe acne and who have tried everything else.
Question: How long does it take for accutane to work? I've been on accutane 20 mg for my acne for about 3 weeks now and it's yielded only minimal results so far. I was wondering when it will really kick in and if eating pizza/fast food will effect the effectiveness of the medicine. Please don't refer me to any other products as I just want advice about accutane. Thank you.
Answer: I took accutane :D the docs say oh one month and you will see results, but that's bs, it took at least 2 months before i saw noticable results. and things don't start really getting good until 4 months. and at 6 months, your skin will be smooth.
accutane if powerful, and after 4 days you should feel the effects really drying out your skin, I remember, the first month was torture, because my skin was confused and dry and irritated, but after a few months, it levels itself out, so you don't have that noticably irratated dry feeling to your skin, in fact, wehn i was done, i was kinda sad, because I really enjoyed not having to touch up my makeup, or use oil absorbing sheets. food doesn't change anything.
ALSO, if you don't feel 20 ml is enough, ask to take 2 a day instead of one a day, one at night, and one in the morning, if you aren't already that is :P my doc didn't tell me that until almost the end. i was like 'wish you would have told me i could have more sooner.' if you feel you aren't getting as good of results as you want.
good lucks!!
Question: What is the real culprit behind Accutane and depression? I think it might be psychological and here is my reasoning.
Most people taking accutane have severe acne that inhibits them socially. They often times think if they get rid of the acne, theyll be more open with people. When the acne's gone, and they see that only a few things have changed, they become depressed. I think that Accutane as a depressant is more psychological than drug-related. Would I be right in saying this?
Answer: I also think that it needs to be noted that the majority of people who take Accutane are teens and young adults...and we hear all the time about teens and young adults being depressed and suicidal for reasons that have nothing to do with medication.
Also, Accutane can make your already bad skin much worse before it gets better, and to someone who is already uncomfortable with their appearance, that can be quite a blow.
Based on the limited number of cases linking Accutane to depression/suicide, I personally think there are a lot more significant side-effects to worry about (liver enzymes, cholesterol, birth defects)...although psychological condition is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
Question: What cleanser should i use when on accutane? My dermitologist told me that i have to use a "bland" cleanser now that im into my second month of 60 g of accutane a day. I was wondering if this is right and if so, why? Any other tips for while on accutane would be welcome, Thanks!
Answer: My brother was on Accutane for awhile too. He used Cetaphil. Its really gentle mild cleanser its oil free too. It makes your skin feel soft as well:)

Heres some reviews of cetaphil if your curious.
OH- and the reason why you need to start using a bland cleanser is because your dermetologist put you on a higher dose, and strong acne cleansers could really hurt your skin since its so senstive while using accutane.
Let me tell you it works wonders though, my brothers acne is totally gone!
Question: How worse does accutane make your skin at first? What percentage of accutane takers get worse acne at first and then clearer skin? Is it everyone does and how long will it be worse? I've been getting prescribed tons of different things for almost two years and nothings ever worked that great so this week I'm going to ask my derma for a accutane subscription.
Answer: well i just started it almost a month ago and it has gotten noticably worse but if i understand right, it should get better in the second month. I'm definitly looking forward to that!
Question: When should i start to see results with accutane if i am starting to dry out? I am almost a month into my accutane treatment. I was wondering when it will clear up? I had a bad breakout about a week and a half into it but now everything is drying out. If i get a new flare up in the moring its dryed by night. If i am already drying out on accutane will i see results soon? HELP!
Answer: I just ended my first month (40 mg a day) and i broke out almost every day, it was really embarrasing, just recently my dermatologist upped my dose to 60 mg a day and im not really breaking out anymore, just drying up and flaking off, i think you will see improvements twords the middle of the second month like i am.
Question: How long after I finish Accutane, can i do Microdermabrasion to reduce my scars? I finshed Accutane a month ago, when can i do Microdermabrasion?
Answer: I don't really know much personally but this link have some videos that will help you understand and get the best out of your skin. Click on the "Beauty" link after you click this----> http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/29718430#29612168
Question: How long does Accutane take to show results? I just got 40mg capsules of Sotret (a generic for Accutane) and want to know how long it took for you or someone you know to see improvement in their face and chest.
Also, my cheeks are red from the acne. Did anyone else have that problem and did they stay clear even after you stopped using accutane?
Answer: Accutane is a vitamin A derrivative (oral isotretinoin) which is not an over the counter medication. I hope that you obtained it with a proper prescription from your board certified dermatologist.
Thought it is effective as an anti-acne medication, Accutane has serious side-effects. Among them is teratogenicity --- meaning it can cause birth defects even long after discontinuing the drug (around 2-3 years). It is however considered a "wonder drug" for nodulo-cystic acne. It usually takes a few months of treatment before any significant change.
Make sure that your dosing is correct and that you are aware of its potential adverse effects.
Make sure to consult a board certified dermatologist.
There's more to dermatology than cosmetics.
Question: How to make your doctor prescribe accutane? I am not positive that he will prescribe me accutane, he might prescribe me antibiotics. I really just want to do accutane because that is the most effective. Any tips on making sure he goes with accutane not antibiotics?
Answer: I convinced my doctor by telling him how much it meant to me. I literally told him, I'm not leaving until I get accutane! LOL. Now, I don't suggest doing that. That was wrong of me and I was very overwhelmed with various things that day.
Accutane is very effective, but very slow at the same time. Most patients don't notice a difference until the third month. I just finished my first month, and honestly, my acne got worse. It says on the box that for most people it gets worse before it gets better. Don't under estimate what it can do, it's a super strong drug and should be taken catiously.
To me, accutane is a miracle drug, but not because acne goes away over night.. it's doesn't, but because when you're finished with all of your courses acne most likely will not come back. It requires patience, however.
Btw, you have to take blood tests every few months. I just got back from my first one :||||||||
Question: How long did it take for Accutane to clear up your moderate acne? The acne is on my back, it is just getting worse, thinking about going to my doctor and asking about accutane. How long did it take for you?
Answer: back acne take lomg my friend to clear sure it is different from person to another but u only see clear results after a few months of use so not igve up fast.
look here for more information about acne http://acnedestroyer.blogspot.com/
Question: What is the best dosage of accutane to take? My acne is not that bad its average. And I was wondering what is the best dosage of accutane to take?? Would you take more Mgs over a shorter period of time or less Mgs over a longer period of time?
Answer: I don't know the best dosage of accutane but make sure that you are not taking any antidepressants because these two drugs interact with each other!
