Arthritis Relief
Question: Has anyone here moved to Arizona for arthritis relief? Hi. I was just wondering if living in AZ really does help with arthritis. Is it dry heat year round? Do you still need to take meds? Just curious. Thanks!
Answer: If I had a cent for every time someone asked this question, I would not be answering it. I have known people who moved lock stock and kids to Arizona due to Arthritis. Fact, their is more Arthritis among the 'Native' people born and educated, in AZ than anywhere else in the world! So those people who are now 50 or 60, born in AZ, lived in AZ all their life have Arthritis, because of some genetic predisposition. Years ago I went to Las Vegas against my Doc advise? Now LV is in a Dessert, so by right the heat should really help with the Rheumatoid Arthritis and the Sun with the Psoriasis, what was the BIG problem? Umm air conditioning? The heat was too hot to maintain a normal, lets go for a nice 3 mile walk at 11am, in fact by 10am it was HOT. So while the Arthritis behaved itself, I started to cease up due to lack of exercise. By the time I got back to Europe, 10 days, the Psoriasis was cracking, splitting open and not nice. It had dried out along with my skin. The idea that AZ is good for Arthritis is a old wife tale. However I do know the local native population use tea made from some plant and sip it all day, as it eases the pain and inflammation. I think the longest anyone with Arthritis that I have known lived in AZ was 12 months, then they moved away, because it was too HOT! Just like some people prefer a hot pack for a strain, others will prefer a cold pack for a sprain.
Question: Has anyone here move to Arizona for arthritis relief? I'm in a lot of pain with arthritis and am seriously considering moving to AZ. Is it dry heat year round? Do you still need to take meds? Thanks!
Answer: We moved out here not because of arthritis but because of my mom's severe asthma. She has not had one asthma attack in the 5 years we have lived here. Before, when we lived in Boston, she would have an attack at least once a month and have to be hospitalized...that's how bad her asthma was!! Now, with the dry heat and low humidity, her asthma is in check with her regular medicine.
With arthritis, I think you may still have to take your regular medicine, like with her asthma, but I have heard that this weather is really great for people living with arthritis. Come visit, for a week or two, and see how you do. Don't come now though because it has been raining on and off for a week and it is cold.
And I recommend the Phoenix area
Question: Does apple cider vinegar really work for arthritis relief?
Answer: Well a potassium deficiency has be linked to arthritis.
http://www.ithyroid.com/arthritis_and_potassium.htm
Apple cider vinegar is supposed to be a rich source of potassium so on that basis it might help. Perhaps there is benefit also from the malic acid content.
You could certainly try it and see if it helps. Take 2 teaspoons in a glass of water first thing in the morning and perhaps before lunch and supper.
Many get relief from the supplement glucosamine. You can purchase a shellfish-free one if you are allergic to shellfish or prefer a vegetarian option. MSM may also help alongside glucosamine. Turmeric may help as an anti-inflammatory and ginger too.... and ginger may also help with pain relief. You can also buy glucosamine in a gel form. Or you could try arnica gel or fiery jack ointment. The latter you can get hold of from any pharmacy....it is an old-fashioned remedy. Don't expect instant results. Do persevere as these supplements can take some time to show real effect.
If you are on prescribed medications then talk to your doctor or a pharmacist first before taking supplements. Some supplements may interact with some meds. For instance, ginger may interact with blood thinning medications. Ask and be safe.
Question: Glucosamine arthritis relief for my Shelty? does anyone have experience with this in releiving arthritis pain on a shelty? she isn't crying from pain but she is moving very slowly with hardness in her hips. she's 9 years old. reputable and inexpensive place to buy the medication?
Answer: Glucosamine and condroitn sulphate are to help rebuild cartilage they are not pain medications. Over time they will help improve mobility but you may want to address this with your vet. There are some really good anti-inflammatory medications now for dogs. You may have to have some screening blood work done before starting them and you may be able to reduce the amount or discontinue them after your pet improves from being on the supplements. There are also some healthier alternatives like MSM. Discuss it with your vet or find a holistic vet to talk to about natural remedy's.

Question: How Do I get relief from arthritis? I am allergic to alot of medication. I need relief but have not found a med that i can take. Any ideas?
Answer: Try eating more fruits and vegetables. Rubbing peanut oil on your joints would help, as would capsicum based ointments. Also pay attention to your immune system.
Question: Arthritis pain relief for 6 year old Black Lab? My black lab, Reilly, suffers from arthritis in his right hip. With the colder weather, he seems to limp more and have more inflammation in the area. Is there anything that a vet can prescribe to relieve these symptoms? Any natural treatments?
Answer: You could try the human device actipatch. The company is in the process of developing it for the veterinary market as well...but currently its only for humans (it is the same device). Read more about it at www.actipatchpaintherapy.com or www.actipatchstore.com. It is completely natural and safe.
Question: Are there any natural forms of pain relief for a dog with arthritis? My 8 year old husky has arthritis in her hips, are there any natural forms of pain relief that might help her? Massage, herbs, etc?
I ask because my dog has been on both Rimadyl (spelling?) and Deramax and they both make her throw up, so I was just wondering if there was something natural that would help her.
Answer: "Natural"? Do you mean drug-free options? If so, look into glucosamine/chondroiton supplements. Ask your veterinarian about dosing for her, and where to get it.
Question: Any information on pain relief of arthritis using marijuana? My wife's doctor told her he cannot help her anymore. For pain relief he prescribed Vicodin. It helps but she would like to use marijuana as a tea and see if it helps. Both of us are non-smokers and have had no experience with marijuana. Any info is appreciated. Thanks
Answer: In a Medical Marijuana (MMJ) State your wife needs to ask the Dr. to sign a recommendation form. The Dr. should understand that pharmaceutical pain killers do not allow everyone to have a quality of life. A State that allows MMJ has a form online that she can present to the Dr. After registering as an MMJ patient I would grow the medicine. Search the Internet for Tea recipes ( I'd suggest BudTer and make some cookies). There are co ops and local groups that help patients with home grown medicine. Dispensaries are available in MMJ States for medicine purchases. Ingesting MMJ can take up to 2 hours to reach all the extremities. It does give a more all over body relief but slowly. Using MMJ means experimenting with dose and frequency. Also look at a vaporizer which delivers the instant relief and is not 'smoking' detrimental.

Question: How may I get some relief from arthritis that affects my hands? When I awaken, my fingers, especially on one hand, are very stiff. Although they loosen somewhat during the day, I would like to find a way to relieve the pain and stiffness. By the way, I prefer not to use any medications at this time.
Answer: If you don't want to use medications consider homeopathic (natural) remedies, in particular arnica gel (made from the arnica montana flower extract) helps with inflammation (arth= joint, itis=inflammation) and a broader based homeopathic cream made in Germany by the name of Traumeel/Traumed (depending on where you get it). It's not "cheap" but definitely worth it. You can find them at your better health food/vitamin shops or at vitaminshoppe.com
Originally recommended to me by my doctor more than 10 years ago, everyone I have ever turned on to this stuff (including my arthritic fingered pianist mom) is amazed at how well it works, and you only need to apply/use it or arnica when you have symptoms.

I would recommend you get AIM Frame Essentials. I have posted an article on my blog about the amazing effects of Glucosamine, which also has my own personal experience with taking the AIM Frame Essentials. This product is for me the best natural pain reliever. It is perfect for any joint problems and those that I have recommended it to, have had knee problems vanish and even got a man to stop limping. Frame Essentials is known to:
they may open up collateral blood circulation to provide adequate blood supply to the joints. Boswellic acids have been known to reduce joint swelling, maintain blood supply to inflamed joints, maintain mobility, and reduce pain due to stiffness in the joints. They also have no side effects.
Also, the product AIM BarleyLife, which has a link below. In the video there is a short testimonial of somebody that overcame rheumatoid arthritis. BarleyLife is in tune with our blood and will cleanse your blood of toxins and will give you the nutrients your body needs for living a healthy life.
All these products can be ordered by going to the "ORDER AIM" on my website. In order to get the AIM products at wholesale prices, you will need to become an AIM Member. Question: Arthritis in the knees. What is the best way to get relief? I have arthritis in my knees and they are painful and stiff. I find walking down the stairs at home nearly impossible. Walking upstairs is no problem. My doctor won't prescribe painkillers in tablet form at they upset your stomach with long term use. So I am using a gel called Etoflam which doesn't help very much. Is there anything else I can get for relief?
Answer: My sympathy, I've been living with problems in one knee all my adult life and have now been told that I will need a replacement in the near but not immediate future.
So, here are the tricks I have been using. First, keep the quadriceps muscles strong - if you haven't been shown the right exercises ask your gp for a physio referral so that you can learn all the right ones for you. I have recently bought a 'wobble cushion', initially to help my lower spine, but have found it useful for my knee as well. However, with two bad knees (rather than one bad and one starting to complain) you really do need physio advice on whether this is the right thing for you and if so how to use it best.
Second, try swimming crawl (front or back) to keep fit. I like back crawl as you are supposed to kick from the hips keeping your knee relaxed and I find that this can ease it a bit.
Third, try ice. Your physio will give you advice but mine gave me the following instructions. Make sure your skin is well moisturised. Cover your knee with a damp cloth to avoid an ice burn. Take a bag of frozen peas and put it on your knee. Wrap in a towel and leave for no more than 10 min. This can be repeated a couple of times a day but do use moisturiser (hand cream is fine) to avoid chapping.
Lastly, try to keep your weight under control because the load through your knee joint is a multiple of your body weight and excess weight doesn't help. It can be hard to keep weight off because your activity is limited but do try.
My rheumatologist recommends low dose amitriptyline (10mg) at night which acts as a slow release pain killer and helps sleeping - I find it helpful. You do need to play around with timing as it has a sedative effect and you would not be allowed to drive on higher doses but she said that it was OK at 10mg provided that I felt OK.
Some people swear by chondroitin sulphate and glucosamine, these seem safe so may be worth a try. Fish oil capsules have some scientific backing for rheumatoid arthritis so might be worth a try.
Because I have a muscle problem as well I am on ibuprofen but I have to take Lansoprazole as well to reduce the stomach problems, I think I have to have kidney function tests periodically as well but being able to walk around is such a relief. You could discuss paracetamol use with your gp. I can't take any of the codeines as they make me violently sick.
The only other suggestion I can make is to reduce the number of times you use the stairs. I don't know about your house but downstairs loo might really help. Over the shoulder bag to carry things on the stairs if you are alone might also be a good idea plus an upstairs and downstairs vacuum cleaner.
Good luck

Question: What is the best relief for arthritis? any methods or over the counter pain meds? I have it in my back, i'm told, and it keeps me from sleeping.
Answer: There is no medicine for RA, OA, H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for EAR ACHE, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 90% success in treating ALL PAINS confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I treat it with our SHREE SWASTHYAYOG THERAPY, but how can you manage pl see.
Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.
Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING.
All hot things, meat, Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help.
