Answer: Hollie your trash bags are made from byproduct of oil.
Question: What kind of bags should I use to clean out my cat's litter box? I usually use plastic grocery bags to clean out my litter box, ( I scoop the clumps into a bag and throw it into the garbage) but I was wondering if there was a more environmentally friendly bags available to put the clumps into. I don't want to put them directly into the garbage for smell reason, and I use a clay litter, which could mess up my plumbing if flushed. Do dog waste bags work?
Answer: Dog waste bags should work fine, in theory.
You could also use some of those brown paper bags they sell for packing lunches in. You can buy already-been recycled ones. Plus, paper's a lot more environmentally friendly than plastic when you do throw it out.
Question: Is there any way to make ziploc bags vaccum bags and make them airtight? I had to buy some things to get a room organized, sort of last minute and didn't have time to order anything online. So I went and bought several boxes of the big ziploc bags for storage, I thought they said they were airtight.
I tried taking my vaccum and taking air out of the bags, which worked great and and really cut down on the size. However, over the course of a day they started growing again in size.
Is there anyway to seal the seem or something so that they could be the vaccum bags?
I've spent several hundred in all the bags and bins I've bought, so I really don't want to buy the vaccum bags now.
Thanks for any tips!
Answer: No. The plastic they use is porous.
Question: Why should we have to buy the bags to take home our purchases from Ikea? Ikea charges customers in Europe for the bags. Now Ikea is forcing that idea on US customers. I refused to pay and was grudgingly given the bags for free. But first, the manager tried to rationalize the fee by saying: We do it in our European stores. Then he said Ikea wanted to encourage (force) Americans to stop using plastic bags in the interest of ecology. Finally, he claimed that Ikea was giving the money to an environmental group. Instead of paying for the plastic bags, we could buy an Ikea shopping bag and carry around Ikea's logo. Be honest Ikea, and admit you have found a way to make more profit, and get a tax break on a charitable donation. We don't need Ikea dictating to Americans how to conserve. I recycle everything; I drive a compact car. I turn off a/c at home even when I’m hot. I use biodegradable detergents and sustainable growth products.AND I recycle plastic bags! I can make my own decisions on how to conserve without being dictated to by Ikea. Can’t you?
My point is I do not want to lug around a bag, especially if it is giving free advertizing to a business. My car is full enough of junk as it is. The new plastic bags are biodegradable. Besides, how many bags would I need to bring to take home some of the larger items? No, the goverment in not making stores do this. San Francisco tried to legislate it and it was resisted.
Answer: I'm with you. I hate the hypocrisy of companies who exploit the environmental issues while deceiving their customers. Only the foolish would really beleive all Ikea's advertising hype.
Does it occur to people that American, and European, jobs have been outsourced to China, India, etc. Who is doing the outsourcing? Companies like Ikea! Sure, Ikea's stuff has nice designs, but it does not have the quality of American and European goods.
This baloney about plasic bags is just another example of the exploiting of environmental issues to gain publicity and a (fake) good guy image.
Someone compared Ikea to WalMart. It reminds me of when I told my Mom that my friend had an ever lower score on a test than I did. My mom reminded me that it was how well, or badly, I did that she was interested in! My friend's low score didn't make my score good.
Yes, I can make my own decisions, like voting for someone who recognises how huge SUVs are increasing oil use and causing pollution, without the help of Ikea or anyone else.
Question: How can I tell if the shopping bags I purchase at the grocery store are biodegradable? I some times have to purchase a plastic bag at the grocery store. I understand that not all plastic bags are recyclable or biodegradable.
I like to line my compost bin with a reused plastic bag, but now I'm concerned that the plastic bag will prevent the compost from arriving at its destination (due to sorting issues).
How can one tell the difference between a 'regular' bag and a biodegradable bag?
Answer: The only "plastic" bags that are biodegradable are made from plant starches, things like corn etc. They tend to be hard to find. There are some that claim to be biodegradable, but they aren't safe for a compost heap either.
If you want to line your compost bin with something then use newspaper or paper bags. My guess is your bin is either plastic or metal, either way if things get squishy in there they won't leak and a quick spray with the hose will get most debris out, so better not to add to the toxic plastics going into the landfill.
Question: How many of my bags will airport customs check? I am planning to go through "Nothing to declare" at the airport, when I arrive back in South Africa.
If they do call me aside for a check, will they look through all my bags, or just my hand luggage, or only one bag...?
I am taking at least 6 unsealed video games with me when I fly home. Would I be better if I split them between my various bags? That way it won't be so suspicious if they open one bag and all the games are together.
Answer: They can open as many or as few bags as they like. However, I would expect them to check all of them if you are pulled aside. If they think that you're suspicious enough to check, why would they look only at one bag? Isn't that an invitation to smugglers?
Question: What are some makeshift camera bags I could use instead of normal camera bags? I've been shopping for camera bags which are all nice and good, except I'd like something less revealing. I have a ZLR so it's pretty small compared to a DSLR. I'd like to keep the lens hood on most of the time. I've heard diaper bags (?), or make up bags, but if you have any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: You can always make your own bag. Then it'd be what you like. And you can change it however you want to.
Question: If one person stopped using plastic bags and started using reusable bags - what impact would it have? I'm trying to convince a class that I'm in to use reusable bags versus plastic bags but I want some statistics to convince them of this. I would like to know the impact if I got them to switch.
Thanks!
Answer: Couldn't plastic bags be reused too?
Question: How to I permanently remove the bags under my eyes? Please don't say "get some more sleep" because I have had them since I was a little girl. I'm tired of using concealer everyday and tea bags don't work so can anyone tell me a way of permanently getting ready of my under eye bags. It's less of an issue with colour but the bags are really obvious it my complexion.
If there is no possible way to remove them besides surgery can anyone recomend a less frequent solution.
Thanks.
Answer: The best option would be to get as much good sleep as you can and try to find a cream for under your eyes. Olay makes alot of different creams.

Question: How does buying green bags help if the plastic bags are already made? If the plastic bags are already in the store how would you be saving the world?
Answer:
Hola Carmelita,
They will be in the store for as long as they are for free. If they charge us for having them, then we will be looking for using something else.
Look at this video, it's very touching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_F8IQRw-1Hw
It's about how plastic bags thrown out kill at least 100,000 birds, whales, seals and turtles
every year. Animals die slowly of starvation or suffocation.
Once their bodies decompose the plastic bags are liberated to kill again.
I'll share something else I recently read:
Los Angeles Times, 07.23.08
The Los Angeles City Council voted Tuesday to ban plastic carryout bags in the city's supermarkets and stores by July 2010
Council members said they hope an impending ban would spur consumers to begin carrying canvas or other reusable bags, reducing the amount of plastic that washes into the city's storm drains and the ocean.
"This is a major moment for our city, to bite the bullet and go with something that is more ecologically sensitive than what we've ever done before," said Councilman Bill Rosendahl.
Los Angeles alone will put a dent in plastic bag consumption by reducing the 2.3 billion plastic bags it uses each year. We hope the city proves to be a model for many more across the nation.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced last month that he would force supermarkets to charge for the bags, saying that they were “one of the most visible symbols of environmental waste.”
Retailers and some pressure groups, including the Campaign to Protect Rural England, threw their support behind him, and similar movements have spread across the United States.

Question: How many bags of sand will I need for my lawn? I need to have 4cm in depth for an 85 square meter lawn. How many 25kg bags of sand will it take?
Answer: 4cm (0.04 metres) X 85 = 3.4 cubic metres
1.6 tonnes of sand = 1 cubic metre
Therefore 3.4 cubic metres = 3.4 X 1.6 tonnes = 5.4 tonnes
! tonnes = 1000 kgs = 4 X 250 kg bags
Therefore 5.4 tonnes = 5.4 X 4 250 kg bags = 21.6 bags
Question: Can you use zipolc bags and decorating tips to decorate a cake? As a student that has no money for decorating supplies I dont have all the things needed to decorate a cake. I have decorating tips and ziploc bags but im not sure on if I can use them together. How would I secure the tip with the bag?
Answer: Make a small cut on the corner of the ziplock bag.
Slide the decorating tip into the corner.
Put your frosting in the bag.
Push the frosting into the corner where the tip is.

Question: What is the minimum number of such bags needed and what is the distribution? Divide 1083 coins, each of value Re. 1 into sealed bags, so that we can buy any item priced between Re. 1 to Rs. 1083 through combinations of these sealed bags without opening any of them. What is the minimum number of such bags needed and what is the distribution?
Answer: Ans: The distribution of coins in the bags will be:
2^0, 2^1, 2^2 ,2^3, 2^4, 2^5 ,2^6 , 2^7, 2^8, 2^9 & then balance 60
i.e.1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 & remaining 60 in one bag. Hence total 11 bags are required to purchage any item between 1 to 1083.
Explanation: To start, we can use only first 2 bags to see how much we can buy with them. The first bag should contain Re 1.The second bag contain Rs 2. When we put these 2 bags together we can buy an object(1+2 =3). Next we should be able to buy for Rs 4. So next bag should contain coins of the worth of Rs 4. Now from these bag we can buy upto 1+2+4=7. Hence next bag should have Rs 8. and so on. 1+2+4+8+16+32+64+128+256+512=1023. Balance 1083-1023= 60 can be put in the 11th bag.All items costing between 1023 to 1083 can be purchased using this bag as the least count is 1.
