Benefits Of Greens
Question: Which has more health benefits: Green tea or chai tea? I tried chai tea the other day, and really like the taste (a lot more than green tea). I do usually have 2 to 4 cups of green tea a day.
Is one better than the other, or are they pretty much the same as far as health benefits go?
Answer: EGCG is a potent antioxidant
Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant found in green tea, is at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses. This antioxidant has twice the benefits of resveratrol, found in red wine.
Special Benefits of Green Tea
* Reduces high blood pressure. Drinking green tea represses angiotensin II which leads to high blood pressure.
* Lowers blood sugar. Green tea polyphenols and polysaccharides are effective in lowering blood sugar.
* Fights cancer. There have been many studies that have shown that green tea catechins are effective at preventing cancer.
Green tea also boosts the immune system because of its high concentrations of polyphenols and flavenoids.

Question: Does milk in green tea really cancel out the good benefits of green tea? How about sugar? I herd somewhere that milk in your green tea actually reduces the health benefits. Is that true? And what about adding sugar and cinnamon? Is that ok?
Since I herd the milk thing, I've only put 3 teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of cinnamon in it, is that fine?
Answer: Green tea is healthy plain. The milk and sugar won't cancel green tea's benefits, they just add their own problems (sugar isn't good & milk has fat). 3 tsp. of sugar is a lot for a cup of tea.
The cinnamon is fine, as long as it's pure, not mixed with sugar. Cinnamon is also healthy.
Try things like honey instead of sugar. Honey is a healthier food. It's not better than sugar for a diet or diabetes, but it has its own health advantages (and sugar has none). Lemon is a great addition to tea for flavor.

Answer: I first started drinking Green Tea about 2 years ago after I heard about it from an aunt (with Chinese family how could I not?) and really like the taste now. At first I used to add the water boiling and it would be soo bitter but if you add it a minute after boiling the taste is so fresh and delicate, but I can't stand it with anything sweet!
Drinking green tea has many health benefits, for one it is full of antioxidants that keep the immune system working well. I hardly ever got sick or had colds before but I am told it should help people boost their immune systems, just as eating a diet rich in vegetables and fruit would add more antioxidants and vitamins into the diet and have notable health benefits.
Believe it or not rubbing green tea bags on your face after dipping in hot (not boiling) water really clears up acne and skin imperfections. Just don't let your neighbours see you doing it. GAH.

Question: Will flavored green tea still have all the same benefits? I just bought different flavors of green tea (official tea leaves, not the tea bags). With these teas being flavored will I still get the benefits plain green tea has to offer?
Answer: Yes, You will still receive all the benefits of normal green tea and possibly a few more if your teas are flavored with other herbs. i.e Mint, Bits of Apple, Oranges...
Mind you this is only if they have the actually plant leaf/fruit in them and not some syrup/extract thing. But never the less you are still getting all the benefits.

Question: Am I still getting some good health benefits of green tea even though I only drink it once a day? I have been doing some research and keep coming across people that say 2-3 cups is the only way to get the health benefits. Is this true? I don't really have the time or like it enough to drink it that many times a day. I just have it at breakfast and thats about it.
Answer: Tea is one of those foods whose benefits must be weighed against its risks. Whether you call them tannins, polyphenols, or antioxidants, the chemicals in tea can do harm as well as good. Drink as much as you want to drink, enjoy the taste, and don't worry about it.
Question: Does iced green tea have same health benefits as hot green tea? Do the health benefits of green tea change if I chose to make iced green tea? I'd like to start drinking homemade iced green tea with lemon (no sugar) more often.
Answer: Iced drinks make your body work harder, because it has to restore the body temperature back to normal range, in addition to digesting whatever you have consumed. Therefore it is best to consume green tea at close to body temperature, if you want to have the optimum health benefit. Iced green tea is a refreshing drink on it's own, but shouldn't be combined with food.
Also after having food it is not advisable to drink iced drink. This is because when taking icy drink with food it will solidify the oil staff in the blood vessel. It is best to take warm water after food or the warm tea.
Question: Will I still reap the same benefits of green tea if I add a little honey to it to sweeten it up? I read that honey has some nutritional value also, so if I add honey to green tea, will it cause any detriment to the overall nutritional benefits of the tea?
Answer: Add the honey, the green tea benefits are from flavenoids and other phytochemicals which won't be affected!
