Question: Can someone help me identify a berry? There's this plant outside my house that I can't figure out the name of. It grows through rocks and it's a thorny vine with no leaves. The vine is a dry craggly brown color, and it has squishy cheesy yellow berries. My mom thinks it's called a thornberry because of the thorns, but i don't think there's such thing as a thornberry. Can someone please help me identify this plant/berry? Also is the berry edible?
There are a couple things I left out...i live in Kentucky in the southeastern US..i figured location could help...and to answer the last answerer's question, no there aren't any leaves at all...just thorns.
Answer: there is such a plant as a thornberry bush but it has very nice green color... If I could see the plant I could probably tell what it was but nothing comes to mind in your description... there are no leaves at all?

We want to grow some berry bushes at our house, but those of you that live in Colorado know that there are quite a few plants that aren't compatible with the climate, elevation, etc. Could you also mention what types work best? Thanks!

Here is a personl note about growing blueberries.
They grow very well in containers (just make sure they are large enough) and blueberries like acidic soil so you can feed and water with Miracid by Miraclegro
Miracid is a water soluble, inorganic fertilizer made by the Miracle Gro company. Recently, it was renamed Miracle Gro for Azalea and Camellias, but it remains useful for acid-loving plants in general, as well as a means to

Almost any garden center has it Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot...
Growing blueberries should do well in Colorado high country..
Remember: All blueberries will yield a much bigger crop when paired with another variety
breeders have developed a type of dwarf blueberry bush that can be successfully grown in containers. It is not recommended that you attempt to grow standard varieties of blueberries in pots, because they simply will not thrive.

Question: How does Acai berry help you lose weight? I've seen all these adds online about some miracle acai berry diet and I've read and heard that the acai berry is a great berry full with antioxidants and what not. But how does it help you lose weight?
Answer: If you are really looking to lose weight, Acai probably isn't enough just by itself.
It's a very healthy food, high in vitamins and anti-oxidants, but those won't really result in weight loss.
I suggest doing what this girl did and combining the Acai diet with a cleansing program.

Question: What are the characteristics of a berry? Everyone knows that a tomato is scientifically a fruit, not a vegetable, because it carries its seeds.
But I've recently been told that a kiwi is classified as a berry. So my question is, what makes a berry a berry? What do you look for when you're wondering if something is a berry?
Answer: A berry is a fleshy or pulpy fruit with the seed(s) embedded in the fleshy tissue. Kiwi is a fruit scientifically just as all berries are. Kiwi contain hundreds of seeds. The tiny black specs you see in the kiwi are sterile seeds.

Question: What is the difference between a berry and another fruit? What is the difference between a berry and another fruit?

Question: How many calories are in a mixed berry parfait? I have this simply-to-go brand 'mixed berry parfait' from my cafeteria for lunch sometimes. Does anyone know how many calories does it contain, because sometimes it feels a little heavy.
It contains low fat yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, some almonds and granola. It doesn't say anything about calories or serving amount.
I think its a 14 ounce container, although i am not sure as it doesn't say anything ont he label. How many calories do you think it has? Thanks for all answers in advance!
Answer: According to the information I found, 14 ounces of strawberry and blueberry with granola parfait would have about 380 calories. However I doubt that the container would contain 14 ounces as I don't think parfait containers come larger than 12 ounces. In that case a 12 ounce container would contain about 326 calories.
Sorry to disappoint you but the impression that it is a little heavy is probably correct. The parfait you are having probably contains more calories than a regular McDonalds burger which contains about 250 to 280 calories.
Question: How much space should I leave between blue berry bushs when I plant them? We (my wife and I) already have one blue berry bush that has been doing well in our back yard. My wife recently bought three more. Thank you!
Answer: You can plant them 5 feet apart .
http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/1000/1422.html
http://www.uri.edu/ce/factsheets/sheets/blueberry.html
"The standard spacing for rabbiteye blueberries is 6 feet (in row) and 12 feet (between rows). The standard spacing for highbush is 4 feet (in row) and 10 feet (between rows). For a quicker hedgerow effect, plant rabbiteyes 4 feet apart in the row."
http://pubs.caes.uga.edu/caespubs/pubcd/l106-w.html
You can use a spacing of either 4'x8' (in rows x between rows) or 3'x8'. You should have at least two different cultivars for superior production. While not necessary for production, this cross-pollination among the different cultivars will result in better production and larger berries.
http://www.ext.nodak.edu/extnews/hortiscope/fruitveg/bluberry.htm
Basically, depending on how large your blueberry bushes will eventually grow (which variety you have), you can space your bushes as little as 3' apart for the smaller dwarft-type varieties, or 5' to 6' apart for larger varieties.
Good luck! Hope this helps.
