Breathe
Question: Breathe............? NaS - Breathe from Untitled.
Is this one of the best hiphop tracks in history?
I twist em
Baby mama beat victim
Chronic leaf hittin'
All kinds of heat with him, wisdom
From pot to piss in to high position
Intense hustle, is pain like a pinched muscle
Till it rains and my Timbs stain my socks
Till I dodge enough shots
And the presiding judge slams a mallot
It's his life I'm a gwop
Then I copp
Then I yacht
Then I dot
Island hoppin' away from nightmare holders
Or cowboys slingers
Who shoot up any club
To see their names ring loud on some FBI poster
Must be on X or he coked up
Suggestin' I post a, bail
I'm like yes 'cause we soldiers
We just gettin' older
In time, we still in our prime
I can't afford a new arrest in my folder
I'm fresh out of city housing
It had to many options
Pennies on the pension or penitentiary bounded
Plenty Henny in me
Envy was simply they trend see
My enemy was every hater that was bigger than me
Answer: Although it's a great song with mad lyrics, it's not his best, and not the best in hip hop history
But i reckon it would definitely be up in, say, the top 10! :)

Question: How do I learn to belly breathe? I have no problems belly breathing when I am on my back in bed, or when I am somewhat hunched over. However, I can't belly breathe when I stand up straight. When I stand up straight and try to belly breathe, I intake less air than I can when I chest breathe. Is this something that will "fix" itself with practice (standing up)?
Do most athletes and wind instrument players use belly breathing?
If belly breathing is so great, then why don't most people know how to do it? Actually, why don't the people who do know how to belly breathe, use belly breathing all the time, and just forget chest breathing?
Answer: Most people breathe through their chests out of habit, and social pressures (especially on women), however the correct way to breathe is from the diaphragm (or as you say "belly breathing") especially for performing arts.
The best way for this to become a natural way to breathe is with practice and a good vocal training. When I studied acting we did voice classes everyday and I still keep it up now, so maybe you could investigate that route. Also read "The right to speak" by Patsy Rodenburg as she gives many helpful exercises in order to achieve this.
It is an important skill to have in performance as it is only by breathing correctly that you can find your true voice and let your emotions out freely. It also allows you to take in much more air, and with practice you will expand your capacity.
Don't think of it so much as breathing into your "belly". Your entire rib cage should expand outwards from the front back and sides.
Anyway, you should definitely read the book I recommend as it will give you all the advice you need.

Question: How do I breathe correctly when performing martial arts? I just joined muay thai not too long ago, but I keep forgetting to breathe as I practice. When I do remember to breathe, I breathe deep enough but too slowly, or I breathe quickly enough but too shallowly. I keep getting winded. How do I fix this?
Answer: It's probably one of the hardest things for a beginner to learn.
It just takes practice and time. Just while you're punching or kicking, think, I have to breathe, and it becomes a habit.
Just with every punch quickly breathe out, suck in quickly for some oxygen, then hit again doing the same thing, quickly breathing out.
I personally breathe out of my nose, until I start getting so out of breath that I breathe from my mouth. The reason I breathe in and out my nose is because you can't take a huge breath, which isn't want you want to do for many reasons. Some just kind of make a "pssst" sound out of their mouth to let a little air out, but I like breathing in and out the nose.
It takes time, it took me probably about 1 month until I started to breathe, but even then I was still having troubles to remember.
Question: What happens if you accidentally breathe in or drink some of the water in the swimming pool? I always accidentally breathe in some water while I'm swimming, especially when I'm doing a somersault. My nose usually stings for a few minutes and tears start welling up in my eyes. On some occasions, I accidentally drink a gulp of pool water. I know the chlorine in the swimming pool is not exactly lethal if you don't drink or breathe in a lot but I just wanted to know whether breathing it in or drinking the water could cause any side effects?
Answer: upset stomach
Question: How can I learn to breathe through my nose while wearing a mouthguard? I am interested in recreational boxing. Unfortunately, I have a hard time figuring out how it is possible to breathe through the nose during heavy exertion, since I take in much less air through my nose than through my mouth. Is there a way to increase air intake through the nose? If not, how do I get used to only breathing through the nose while wearing my mouthguard?
And is it bad to breathe through the mouth if your teeth are clenched anyway?
Answer: Its fine if you breathe through your mouthguard, but wat i did was wear my mouthgurad to cardio classes to get more comfortable with it and adapt to breathing through my nose. If you do decide to breathe through your mouth, clench your teeth to prevent jaw injury
Question: How do you breathe properly and with control? The way i breathe is causing me anxiety, i breathe loudly through my nose and i have a hard time breathing slowly from my diaphragm. Sometimes it feels like i'm breathing through my throat, so also, how can i stop breathing through my throat? Thanks a lot for the answers.
Answer: breathing is not something someone learns to do...uh, it just happens. you need to see a doctor. Sounds to me like you're having shortness of breath
Question: How do you breathe and what do you think is the best way of breathing? Do you inhale by your nose and exhale by your mouth or simply breathe in and out from your nose? Is your breath short and irregular or is it deep and continuous?
Do you ever notice that when you're thinking too much, you forget to breath properly? Do you think your breath affect your health, particularly the tone of your skin and your mood? Do you think you should always have a part of your attention directed on your breath so you keep your it under check?
Answer: I try to always breathe in and out through my nose. If I exercise I usually have to start using my mouth, but I try not to. I try to just take deep breathes.. about 16 each minute.
I don't necessarily think that the way you breathe effects your health unless there is something making you breathe in a bad way.
I do think that focusing on proper breathing during exercise can help you exercise better and give you focus. Also doing breathing exercises and only focusing on breathing can be very relaxing.
Question: What is the proper way to breathe when you are singing? I understand you have to breathe through your diaphram, and have been doing so for about a year. But now, when I sing loudly, I get huge headaches. I think its because i am not breathing properly when singing. Can anyone offer advice on how to breathe right when I start to get louder?
Answer: take a good look at what you are doing when you start to sing loudly. You ought to be feeling more energetic around your waist ( front and back), but nowhere else.
If you find that you are tensing your neck and shoulders, that could be a cause for headache. If you are tensing the inside of your throat, in an effort to help move or even push the sound out ( to make it louder) then you are working against yourself in a bad way.
Singing loudly involves getting the air to move a bit faster, but that happens only if your breathing muscles are engaged. Loudness never comes from the throat.
Although we call it breathing with your diaphragm, this is actually not the right name. The diaphragm moves with every breath we take, whether we sing or not. We can't really feel it because it is situated so deep inside the ribcage, only a surgeon with a scalpel can get at it. What we do feel, however, are the abs. There are 3 sets of them on each side of your body ( that's why we call them a six-pack when they are very developed), and they wrap around your waist from the end of the ribcage to the top of your hipbone. When you take in adeep breath, these muscles often feel like they are expanding all around your body. If you can keep this feeling while singing, and not let these muscles collapse in on themselves quickly, then you will feel full longer, and can start to dose out your air in an efficient manner.
That's what breath support is all about.
We can "lean in" on these muscles as we continue singing, in order to maintain that long slow exhale.
Do you know how to do lip trills? We can't do them unless we use exactly these muscles, otherwise the lips will not flutter. Pretend you are a lawn mower, with a big yard to take care of. make those lovely funny sputter noises, change gears, play games with the sound. If you can alter speed, sound, etc. then you know you are working effectively with these muscles.
Pretend you are blowing up a balloon, fresh out the package. To overcome the surface tension, you need to engage these muscles to give your air some extra oomph.
the m ore you become aware of how and when you use your abdominal muscles, the easier it will become.
If you still have headaches, check with an Ear-Nose-Throat doctor to see that there are no blocks in your ears or throat.
Question: How does some one breathe properly when fighting? How should one breathe exactly when you are In martial arts and fighting so that you do not give your breathing pattern away and maintain the best endurance. Is their a trick to it?
Answer: Americans generally are raised to breathe differently than our Asian counter parts. We have the habit of breathing with our chests expanding it and exhaling it when in fact you can hold more oxygen and expell more force if you breathe as Japanese do, I am not sure if all Asian's do it this way, I know the Japanese do though. They breathe via their stomachs filling and expanding their gut with air and then their chests after allowing a lot more air in you and out when you release it in a Kiai.
When I spar with people I tend to watch their upper chest or neck for it is harder to be faked out and also you can time their breathing too if they are breathing with their chests by watching them inhale and exhale and just as they are exhaling is when you strike and it will knock the wind out of them. You can also if trained learn to time heart beats too and it you were to hit some one in the heart at the right exact beat it would stop, just like CPR only the opposite.
So to not give your breathing away as much use your stomach to inhale and exhale and breathe in with your nose and out with your mouth as already mentioned.
That is my suggestion to you.
Question: What happens when you breathe in a bit of water? I've been drinking a lot of water, and tend to choke on it too much. Not seriously, but I always get a slightly choked up feeling and it seems harder to breathe afterwards. What happens when you breathe in a tiny bit of water, and am I imagining the effects?
Answer: It will usually make you cough.
A small amount of water is no problem, it will just evaporate as you exhale.
Question: What kind of snakes can live and breathe under water? Or do all snakes breathe under water? What kind of snakes can live and breathe in water? Or do all snakes breathe under water?
Ok, so snakes don't BREATH under water. So that means I am asking the wrong question! What snakes swim in water and stay under water a while?
Answer: Most snakes are capable of staying underwater for periods of time. However, watersnakes and large river snakes (anacondas, reticulated pythons) both can stay underwater much longer than average. Since snakes are exothermic (get heat from outside their body) and can do anaerobic cellular respiration, their energy and therefore oxygen needs are much lower than average. This allows them to stay in warm tropical fresh or salt water for significant periods of time.
Question: What would happen if you breathe in the smoke of a swisher sweet cigar? Ive been smoking swisher sweets for a LONG time now. And i always breathe in the smoke. Answer: u could get llmano bro dont do it anymore its horrible and u could possilby die...
Question: What is the best way to breathe during butterfly stroke? I am learning to do the buttterfly, and while I still don't feel comfortable with it, I have just started to get the rhythm of the arms and legs down. I can swim it decently if I don't come up for air, but when I do need to breathe, it not only breaks my stride competely, but I hurt my neck. I must be doing something wrong! Can anyone help me with tips for efficient breathing during the butterfly, or any other advice in improving this stroke? Thanks.
Answer: the key to breathing properly in butter fly is to get your catch strong on the water. you should lift your head slightly just as you start pulling underwater and your head should be back down before you finish your stroke. Also, a strong kick can help because it helps you get your arms over and your head down. That is probably the reason your neck is getting sore also, because your head is staying up too long.
hope that helps :)
Question: How do the breathe right nasal strips work? My two sisters and I are having an argument. My one sister insists that they use medicine that is absorbed through the skin. My other sister and I know that it just holds your nose open to help you breathe. PLEASE MAKE MY SISTER SHUT UP!
Answer: Within each Breathe Right strip are flexible, "spring-like" bands. On the underside is a special adhesive that, when placed properly on the nose, gently sticks to the area right above the flare of each nostril. As the bands attempt to straighten back to their original shape, they gently lift the sides of the nose and open the nasal passages — providing immediate and continual relief.
Your nose is divided into two chambers, or nostrils. At the back of each nostril is a narrow space called the nasal valve, which is only 1/10" wide. All of the air you breathe in through the nose has to pass through these spaces, which can become blocked for a variety of reasons. The Breathe Right strip widens the space by mechanically pulling open the flexible cartilage walls of the nasal valves, making it easier to breathe without the use of drugs.
**You and your other sister are correct!
Question: What is the proper way to breathe when you sing???? I think I have a decent voice, but I want to improve. I hear people say breathing is key, but I breathe everyday, so what's the difference when you sing?
Answer: Diaphramitic costal breathing. Upper and lower costal muscles. Now ... quit thinking too hard about this. Lay on your back, and take a breath. You will breathe correctly this way. When standing try it again. Take a deep breath. Watch your shoulders. They will likely move because your mind has not trained your muscles correctly. Lay back down. You will breath correctly. It is really quite amazing. It takes hours and hours of practice and is the main focus of all good singing. The lower costal mucle expands with a breath ... as you push air out (singing), the lower costal pushes the upper costal muscle. This expands to push against the lungs which actually holds the air! Remember, your goal in breathing, is to not keep as much air in as you can, but to get all the air out as you sing. Good breathing corrects a multitude of issues and helps you sing longer, stronger and more powerfully ... and with control. Good breathing is an athletic event!
