Build Muscle
Question: build muscle? I'm trying to build muscle using dumbbells and eating a lot of protien. Which gives you better results, heavier weights with lower reps or less reps with heavier weights?
Answer: heavy weights less reps - more muscle mass
less weight lots of reps - long lean muscles
been working at that myself....
good luck and have fun
Question: Build muscle? I'm 14, 6'0, 150 pounds and i have been using a BOWFLEX for the past week or so and i just want to make sure i build as much muscle as possible and get a six pack for football. i need a diet and a suggested amount of time i should spend a day using the bowflex.
Answer: I work out on a Bowflex too, its awesome. If you're looking to get bigger, then add 500 more calories than you normally take in. Just make sure you eat a lot and good foods, not junk food. Eat potatoes, eggs, oatmeal, whole wheat bread, pasta, meat, milk, yogurt.
Question: How long does it take to build a 1lb of muscle? I just started working out, I have kept my caloric intake the same amount as usual but I have shifted it to more protein. I am eating 1g of protein per pound of body weight. I was curious on how long does it take to gain muscle.
I weigh 150 lbs, I am 5'11''
And if I want to build muscle will I have to consume more calories than I am now or will I just need to eat more protein, since protein is the only macro molecule that is used in building muscle through via amino acids as building blocks. So it makes no sense to eat more carbs or fat than I am at the moment to build muscle.
Answer: Muscle tissue consumes carbs for power. To make proteins from amino acids requires gobs of ATP, which must be made from carbs.
Question: How can you build muscle if you have a slender build? I'm very skinny and can't put on weight easily. What would you food would you recommend for me to gain weight and build muscle. Also, because of a chest problem - my doctor says that I can't do vigorous exercises. Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Question: How to build arm tone and muscle with only dumbbells? I want to know what movements i could do to build muscle in my arms, lower and upper.
I have dumbbells only.
I don't want to be like a bodybuilder, just medium/small muscles.
Thank you.
Answer: I'm not sure why you only want to build your arms, but the two best arms exercises don't even require dumbbells: chin-ups and dips. You can google them for instructions.
But if you really want arms-only, then biceps curls and overhead triceps extensions are decent. Again, you can google them for videos on how to do them.
Question: How to build muscle at home without my acne getting worse? I am about 5 9'' and I want to build up some more muscle on my arms and try to get ripped abs. Everyday I run a mile (roughly) and try to do at least 300 sit ups. Any suggestions? Also, about a day or two after I work out, my acne gets worse. Does anyone know how to help me? I have a Weider VKR Dip station fitness bench too.
Thanks!
Answer: Rub lemon juice on the scar/marks. This will lighten the colour. Apply the juice and leave it on for about 10 minutes. Wash off your face and then apply a sun block lotion.
2) Make a paste of sandalwood powder, black gram powder and rose water. Apply it on the area and I possible leave it overnight. Wash it with cold water the next morning. If you find that it makes you skin too dry then add some milk into it.
If these tips did not work for you, do not lose heart you can still try some other tips. Good Luck!
Question: Can you build muscle without even lifting or doing muscle building excersizes? Such as can you just eat certain foods to build muscle or do I need to work out?
Answer: You mean like a magic pill? No - I wish!
Of course it depends on "how much" muscle. Eating a lot, without weight lifting, will build both muscle and fat.
See, muscle grows only in response to a true need. When people lift heavy weights (like squats, deadlifts, bench press, pull-ups, etc.) on a regular basis, it's telling the body that this is the "new normal". So it responds by growing. (It's of course more complicated than this, but I'm simplifying.)
So buckle down, lift weights, start slow, and learn to enjoy it. It really is fun once you get through the initial learning phase!
Question: How do I build muscle and lose weight at the same time? Hello. I'm 6'3 and I weigh 198 pounds. I have a little bit of a gut and thin arms. I've started lifting weights and drinking protein shakes to build muscle.
How can I effectively build up my arms and legs but at the same time lose the weight around my mid-section?
Don't the protein shakes make me gain weight?
I also do two days of hard cardio and I work my abs hard during my lifting sections.
Anyone have a good plan to build muscle and lose a little weight at the same time?
Answer: You should focus on 1 goal at a time, otherwise, you will do neither well. I'd suggest 5-6 days of cardio for 30-60 minutes per session. Vary the intensity- some days will be hour long sessions at a relatively easy pace, while other days should be intense for no more than 30 minutes at a time. The key is to mix it up and constantly vary your routine. As for strength training, I'd stick to just 2X per week while trying to lose weight. Once you are happy with your weight, increase that to 3X per week. Just be sure to give yourself a day of rest between sessions.Protein shakes in themselves won't make you gain weight. They can be a valuable addition to help you gain muscle after an intense strength training session. I would only have them following your strength training sessions. Otherwise, they are just extra calories.
Question: Which helps build muscle in the body? Lifting weight or heavy diet after workout? I planning to join a gym soon. Just wanted to know more about body building.
I was wondering how body building helps build muscle? Is it because of the heavy weights or because of the food we eat due to all the workout?
Answer: You need to lift heavy to get big. The repetitions don't really matter, as long as the weight is bloody heavy!
I'm a massive fan of reaching failure for each exercise, anyone who doesn't reach failure for each exercise isn't training hard enough or doesn't have the mental strength to pull it off.
It is true that failure is not necessary, only progression is. But reaching failure is the most accurate way to ensure progression. Progression is simply adding more weight or more reps to each exercise, every single week.
If you do decide to go to failure for each exercise, then only do 1 set for each exercise. Anymore then 1 set is a waste of precious time (unless you want to do a light warm up set).
Anyway the body builds muscle to protect itself. You don't have to train like a body builder to get big, you could pull cars, climb cliffs, through big rocks, lift bricks, cut down trees, lift logs, split wood, tear books in half etc.
Your body adapts to it's environment. If you provide an environment where it is facing tough physical challenges that require the use of muscle, then it will respond by giving you more muscle to make these challenges easier.
For example take a look at a marathon runner, the runners body needs to be light, low in muscle mass and skinny.
Then take a look at a professional wood chopper, his body needs to have good balance and incredible upper body strength to swing that massive axe around and cut up the chunk of wood. How many wood choppers do you see that look like a marathon runner? None. Because they would die if their body didn't adjust to heavy axe swinging environment. Plus the fact that wood choppers would eat like a horse compared to a little scrawny marathon runner.
To build muscle it is true that you need to eat a lot of protein, and preferably every 3 hours. So in that respect it is both heavy weights and the food we eat.
Question: What are some good workouts to build muscle overall? What are some good workouts to build overall body muscle, i don't have much time on my hands to to train each individual part, so i need something that will work for multiple parts of my body.
All i own is a dumbell and barbell set. Any other effective tips to build overall muscle would be much appreciated thanks.
Answer: Large compound lifts would be great for you.
Squats, deadlifts, power cleans, bench press, presses
Question: How can i build muscle without spending money on gym memberships or weight equipment? I play rugby and will be playing colts rugby this season, i need to build muscle as i play second row and i am quite weak compared to other second rows in my league. I plan to do this without taking steriods, and any other advice would be gratfully recieved!
Answer: You can get a pretty good full-body workout with mostly body weight exercises. I'd suggest you buy a pull-up bar and a large sandbag. Check the links below on how to construct a sandbag to work out. I used small kitchen trash bags filled with about 5 pounds of sand each, double bagged and knotted. Those small bags went into a large, heavy-duty trash bag. Then that went into a small military dufflebag. You can do squats and most olypmpic lifts with the sandbag, and it will work out your stabilizer muscles as well.
This is the workout our team does when we are away from any equipment. It's called the television workout because you should be able to do it during the course of a standard television program.
Television Workout
10 explosive push-ups (where your hands actually come off the ground due to the upward force. Rocky claps his hands after each one)
25 situps
15 burpees (aka squat-thrusts)
10 explosive push-ups
25 situps (quickly touch left elbow to right knee, then right elbow to
left knee each time up)
15 burpees
25 regular push-ups
10 leg raises Lay on ground, lift legs 6-12 inches off the ground, hold for one minute.
10 push-ups with hands close set so your thumbs touch and your forefingers touch (making a diamond in between)
15 Mountain climbers
10 elevated push-ups (feet on floor, hands on chair or coffee table)
Question: What weight should i lift to build muscle and how much should i do it? I'm 14.I now have a weight set up to 40 pounds. I want to build some muscle what weight would be the best for building muscle and how many reps should i do?
Answer: It actually depends on how long you have been working out and what you can comfortably work with.
When I was in the military the rule of thumb was this:
heavy weight+low reps=bulk
light weight+ high reps=cut/definition
For example:
Method One
HIGH/HEAVY WEIGHT WITH LOW REPS=BULK
If you decide to work out with a weight which may feel a little heavy your repetition and sets will be low. i.e. arm curls, 15lbs. of weight. you may only be able to do 5 curls at a time. Those 5 curls will be considered "a set" so you will have lifted a total of 75lbs in one set. But, each curl is considered a "rep"(repetition). Hence, 3 sets of 5 would be a total of 15 reps, and total weight would be calculated as:
15lbs.x5reps x 3sets for a total of 225lbs. OR 15lbs. x 5reps=75lbs.x3 sets=225lbs
This method will give you bulk and beef.
Method Two:
LIGHT WEIGHT WITH HIGH REPETITIONS
If 5lbs. is light to you, then you may be able to do 15 curls at a time. Then your "One Set" would consist of 15 reps(repetitions), and if you can do three sets of these it would be calculated as :
5lbs. x 15reps=75lbs x 3sets=225lbs. or 5lbs. x 15reps x 3sets=225lbs.
This method will give you cut and definition.
So, it isn't so much in how "MUCH" weight you work with, but, "HOW" you work with it!
If you had an identical twin, who ate the same as you and worked out with the same amount of pounds as you, but he chose "Method One" and you chose "Method Two"; Than the both of you would have two different types of body styles.
The method you choose depends on what you want to do or be in life. If you want to maintain your speed and flexibility, you may not want to bulk up. However, if you want the body that will slow others in being quick to mess with you than you would want to sacrifice speed for security.
In any case, stay dedicated and natural to yourself. Stay away from steroids they will shorten the length of the manhood in your pants, as well, cause irreversible damage to your health. (I am not kidding!)
