Calcium Requirements
Question: How many full glasses of soy milk or rice milk is a healthy intake for daily calcium requirements? Also how? many full glasses of water should be taken? I am talking about daily for these questions. In addition, what is the healthiest fruit juice assuming it has the lowest sugar possible and what is the exact name of the company brand? Furthermore, what is healthier: natural honey or brown sugar?
Answer: Honey is healthier than sugar but don't overdo it even with honey.
What makes you think you need more calcium? What do you eat? Dark green vegetables are high in calcium. Don't fall for the propaganda spread by the dairy association, and now perpetuated by the makers of soy and rice milk.
Question: If he drinks only one glass of milk each day, what % of his daily calcium requirements is he missing? Joe is a 17yr old who lives at home with his parents and younger sister. He has no prior medical problems but recently complained about lack of energy during sports and athletic activities at school. He has been scheduled to meet with a nutrition counselor, becasue his pediatrician recommended it. When he arrives he shares his food diary, which indicates that he skips lunch on the days that he wrestles after school. Otherwise, he eats the same meals each day - black coffee and sugar-sweetened cereals with whole milk for breakfast, a luncheon-meat sandwhich and two candy bars on days when he eats lunch, and a typical family meal for dinner.
Answer: Well good gawd, lok at what he's eating!!!!!!! He's full of freakin' carbs and sugar. Of course he's going to be tired. Make him eat better food, cut out all the sweets, replace them with fruit and vegetable and drink more water. I just saved you $200.
Question: Egg Bearing in Parrots. Calcium Requirements!!? My 7 year old white capped pionus has just begun bearing eggs. I know it is natural for birds to lay unfertile eggs, but I have also heard this means I need to start supplementing her with calcium. Is this true??? If so...how much calcium and what source of calcium do I need to start using? Are there any other special requirements??? Please help!
Answer: You should feed fresh, washed in water leafy vegetables for calcium ( supplements are tricky and can over dose a bird if given more than twice weekly, fresh foods are safe)
Chop up several fresh vegetables and make a salad bowl for the bird. Suggestion's; kale, red sweet pepper's,celery, bok choy, green pea's, corn, etc. You can run hot water over some frozen mixed vegetables to warm, drain, cool and add to this, or feed as is.
Hard boil an egg for 15 mins. hold under cold water, dry and cool, LEAVE SHELL ON and cut into small pieces and give the bird.

Question: How should I get the daily requirements of calcium in my diet?
Answer: A simple way to estimate one's daily intake of dietary calcium is to multiply the number of dairy servings consumed each day by 300 mg. One serving equals 8 oz of milk or yogurt, 1 oz of hard cheese, 12 oz of cottage cheese, or 2 cups of broccoli.
Hope this helped you out.

Question: How do you make sure a pet flying squirrel is getting it's calcium that it needs? I have a pet flying squirrel who is quite picky. We've got him some mineral bars with calcium, but he won't eat or chew on them. I've visited Petsmart, but they didn't have calcium drops and I have only found limited info on the internet. Does anyone have a flying squirrel and what do you do for it's calcium requirement? or know where I can get more info on them?
it's legal
Answer: "Does anyone else have a flying squirrel?" Now that's a funny question. Try vitamin supplements, or put traces of calcium or foods with calcium in his food.

How many glasses you need to drink to meet the minimym daily requirements for calcium?
Please help!!!
Answer: well most of the calcium in the water supply is inactive and not digest able. it would be 27.52 mils of calcium from eight 8 ounces glasses of water. but there is no calcium in water. so i would have to say you would ingest no calcium, would be ingested.

Question: How do non-human mammals obtain calcium in their diets? Just like humans, I believe all or most animals have a dietary requirement for calcium in their diets, during adulthood. But there is no other animal besides humans that consumes milk or dairy beyond infancy. So how do other animals obtain calcium during adulthood?
Humans have been taught that if you do not drink milk from a cow, you will get osteoporosis or suffer a calcium deficiency. Herbivores do not drink milk during adulthood, no other animals do. Do they suffer symptoms of calcium deficiency?
Answer: some carnivores do it by eating bones, but i'm not sure if all mammals are as persnickety as humans in that sense
Question: One 500-mL bottle of Evian water provides 4% of the recommended daily requirement of calcium? Use this information to calculate the approximate number of milligrams of calcium recommended per day. (You would have to drink 4 L of Evian water to get the same amount of calcium ion as that in one 8-oz glass of milk)
Please explain how to do it!
Answer: 500 mL is half L, right? so 4L is 8 bottles, times .04= 8oz of milk. What percentage of calcium does milk have? I don't know. something like that. you need another measurement... from either the milk or the water.
Question: how much calcium does a glass of milk contain? i am 20 and drink 2 glasses of milk everyday. does it complete my requirement of calcium??
Answer: 1 cup (250 ml) of 2%-fat milk contains 285 mg of calcium, which represents 22% to 29% of the daily recommended intake (DRI) of calcium for an adult
Calcium from dairy products has a greater bioavailability than calcium from certain vegetables
Question: why is my min pins ears drooping all of a sudden? My min pin scooby is now 3 years old and his ears started drooping about 3 days ago. I know that when min pins teeth, their ears droop because of the calcium requirements for their teeth. I would not think he is teething at this time of his life-or is he?
He does not act sick or scratching at his ears. He does not have any drainage or his ears are not warm either. He is running around and playing like his normal self with our other three min pins and rat terrier and lab.
Answer: He is not teething at three years of age, but he could have an ear infection or some other health issue that is affecting the cartilage in his ears.

Question: Are there any type of drinks or drink mixes I can use to get the daily nutritional requirements? I can't always get the good stuff (veggies, fiber, calcium) in on a daily basis through meals. So I'm trying to pinpoint a drink or drink mix that will do the trick daily.
Something simple, quick, and good for me.
Thanks : )
Hey, are multivitamins just as good? Do they have the same effect as drinking or eating the nutrients? I might do that....
Answer: A good calcium and/or multivitamin supplement will do fine. If you don't get your calcium, get an individual calcium supplement because multivitamins only have like 20% of your daily intake of it.
Yes, multivitamins are probably better. The only thing they don't have are macronutrients, or the stuff that provides you with calories (carbs, fat, protein).
I'm glad I could help.
Question: daily nutritional requirements for teenagers? can you give me some information on "daily nutritional requirements for teenagers" its a cooking assignment
so far all ive put is that teenagers need a variety of healthy foods containing wheat, protein, calcium and vitamins.
and the need to include foods from the 5 food groups
anything else?
Answer: It depends on which food pyramid they are working from? The old chart or the new one??
Basic Teen requirements are as follows:
========================
Calories- females require 2200 Cal./day and males 2500-3000.
Protein- females 0.8g/kg./d males 1.0g/kg./d (30% of caloric intake) Mody teens meet or exceed this level, including vegetarians.
Fats- 30% of daily calories. Most adolescents get enough fats through fast foods and fried foods. Teenagers should be taught to read labels and learn about fat content of foods.
Calcium- The majority of bone mass deposition occurs during adolescence. Daily requirement 1500 mg./day. Good sources include calcium enriched orange juice, green leafy vegetables, sardines, soymilk, and tofu. Antacid tablets contain 300 mg of calcium are good dietary supplements.
Iron- requirements are high during adolescence because of growth. Requirement higher in menstruating females. Good sources include meats, green vegetable, cereals fortified with iron, fish, poultry, eggs, and nuts.
Zinc- 12-15 mgs./day. Found in meats, eggs, seafood, and dairy products
Fiber-20-25 grams/day. Found in fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and cereals.
Vitamins-most commonly adolescents are deficient A, B6 ,E. D, C, and folic acid. Usually adolescents who are eating normal daily requirements of nutrients, their diets were not deficient in vitamins. If not getting daily requirements, should get vitamin supplements.

Question: Does it seem strange that adults need to consume dairy to meet their RDA calcium requirement? Wouldn't just taking a mineral supplement make more sense?
I actually believe I know the answer to this one, but I am not sure. Outside ideas may prove enlightening to me.
Katie,
I agree with you completely. I have one other source. Water! Water is a source of minerals, including calcium. One caveat, minerals plug pipes. Therefore, municipal and "softened" water is demineralized and acidified slightly to avoid this plumbing issue. What is good for our plumbing may be bad for us. As I said, I did think I knew the answer. Any more insight is welcome.
I would suggest a mineral supplement, to some degree, is only replacing what was taken out of the water originally.
Answer: Just another marketing myth forced on use by the dairy industry.
Question: calcium question? 1. is calcium a water soluble or a fat soluble vitamin?
2. what is the daily reccommended requirements for calcium?
thnx
Answer: Hey
First of all, calcium isn't a vitamin, it is a mineral. The RDI of calcium is approximately 1000mg depending on age and gender. As one serving of dairy product provides about 300mg of calcium, those who do not consume enough calcium from food sources may need calcium supplements to meet their daily requirement.
Remember that when purchasing calcium supplements, ensure to look for the elemental calcium content, not the total content. Calcium citrate is the best absorbed form of calcium (in acidic environment). However, most stores sell products with calcium carbonate (which is OK too).
For extra absorption, take a supplement with vitamin D in it too. Good luck!
