Childhood Obesity
Question: Childhood Obesity? I am writing a paper on my nephew who is in the 2nd grade and weighs 140 pounds due to his mom's poor habits.
I am looking for some good websites on childhood obesity that are .edu or .org for my research paper. Also if anyone knows any good books that i can buy or get from the library that would be helpful too
It is not my sister but my half brothers son which we don't get along so I rarely see either one of them which i'm glad of that. They are one whacked out family.
Answer: i don't agree with rushing rusty...this could be classified as abuse however you can just sit down with his mother and talk to her about it...put him on some course so he can lose weight healthily, as for books not really but you can use google about finding the risks of obesity and the health hazards that come from being so overweight at this young age...gd luck
Question: Childhood obesity.....????? Discuss some of the societal and cultural reasons childhood obesity is becoming a growing problem in our country. What measures can be taken, both at a familial as well as a societal level, to reduce this rate?
Answer: homework assignment?
Question: How is childhood obesity relevant to college aged people ? I'm giving a speech on childhood obesity and have to say why it is relevant to my audience, which is college students.
Answer: If they ever had an overweight family member or they themself had weight struggles growing up. Also if they want to or already have children. It is their job as parents to keep their children healthy with a healthy diet that is nutritious (no junk food) and regular exercise. So that it could become habit that way they would become used to eating that way.
Question: What do you think causes childhood obesity? I am taking a nutrition class for my early childhood education degree and childhood obesity is the topic I chose to write my research paper on. I would like to get some input on how you all feel about the subject. This will help in my project. No names or user id's will be used in any part of this project. Websites to visit are appreciated. Thank you.
Answer: Weight gain or loss is the balance between food energy input and exercise energy output.
The government health department offers this insight - "Time trends show a decline in physical activity, but no significant increase in the number of calories consumed."
So maybe eating too much is not the main cause, and a lack of physical output is.
TV and video games have been blamed, but the studies have looked into this and TV is not to blame. "video game play, but not television use, is indeed displacing the time children spend in more physically demanding pursuits." (see source)
Video games then? Well the US state with the heaviest kids has 19% playing 4+ hours, and the state with the leanest youngsters - 3.5%. It does not mean it is a cause, just well correlated.
Could it be changes in not calorie intake, but changes to nutirtion? Maybe the food is less easily burned off and more easily stored?
Let us know the findings of your paper!!
Question: How do conservatives and liberals views differ on childhood obesity? I am writing a paper on childhood obesity and have to find 4 main groups who are arguing about the issues of what causes childhood obesity and how to best fix it. anything will help
thanks :]
Answer: Most Conservatives are involved with their children which means they always make dinner, when I say make dinner, I mean something other than "Give me two happy meals with chocolate shakes, please"
We really cook, therefore most of our children are not obese.
Question: How serious of a problem is childhood obesity? I'm writing a paper for my research writing class and I wondering what you all think. I've been researching this paper for a while and I thought it would be nice to have some outside opinions. So do you think childhood obesity is a serious problem in America today? Moreover, do you know the serious consequences of being obese and if not do you think the media is not being honest enough?
Thanks for your opinions.
Answer: Let me put it this way. An obese child is more likely to be an obese adult, than a normal one, and an obese adult is more likely to 1|) die prematurely 2) be in poor health for some time prior to death. This makes childhood obesity a serious challenge for society and for the health care system.
America is facing a time bomb that dwarfs terrorism, murder and the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. Things are so serious that for the first time in decades the current generation of children actually have a lower life expectancy than their parents. Last time that this happened was WWII.
Question: If childhood obesity is casued by junk food and inactivity, why are so many Mennonite kids fat? Honestly, I live where there is a large old order Mennonite population and a far larger percentage of Mennonite children are fat, compared to non-old order and non-Mennonite kids. I thought modern life was responsible for childhood obesity? These kids don't even have electricity in their homes.
Answer: maybe it's just genetics... these people are picky daters. fat people date fat people have fat kids. Also some hard core religions have weird diets... and whole milk, cheese, Mennonite cooking have lots of calories cuz they don't buy diet food.
those fat kids are rrrroooollllliiinnnn
Question: What are your thoughts about childhood obesity? A new study just came out for the first time that tracks childhood obesity y state. This was done by The Trust for America's help.
The study is called F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America, 2007
Some of the major factors include poverty and lack of excercise. (no brainer)
1. What are your thoughts around childhood obesity?
2. What do you think is the key to prevent it?
3. As parents, how can we play a role in that not just for our own kids, but their friends as well?
Answer: I think obesity is a problem not just in children but a lot of adults as well. I think many adults havent learned proper diet and excersice so how can they teach their kids.
Preventing it- well it could be lowering prices on healthy food versues junk food- a poverty family can afford more kinds of junk food to feed a family than they can feed on healthy. Also having more free activities for kids to get involved with- I mean kids would play more sports before but parents cant afford today alot of the prices for these things now days. Having more for them to do in the community would be nice.
I think by helping our kids help other people instead of calling them names- like a heavy child being called fat could be more helped by our children asking if they need a walking partner. We need to as parents ask what is it that we can do for the community, like starting weight camps and teaching children about healthy eating tips, not just a prymid that they dont understand and having the time to give knowledge to others to help them be able to help themselves.
Question: Is there a good solution on childhood obesity? I am writing a paper for my english class on childhood obesity. I was just wondering if there was anyone out there who has been through this personally and could give me some good advice for my paper.
Answer: There are lots of good ideas out there. Plenty of people chime in on the issue with regularity.
One thing I've noticed during my lifetime, and I'm 45, is that when I was a kid, most mothers didn't work. Therefore, at the end of the day, they were thinking about, and preparing, a real dinner. Now, it seems, no family can do without two paychecks, it's still mom's "job" to figure out dinner no matter how exhausted she may be, and there's a fast food joint on almost every corner.
I'm not placing blame for the obesity on mothers going to work...far from it. I'm thinking, though, that if there were healthier solutions for overworked parents, they would choose them.
Brilliant idea! Someone needs to start a fast-food joint that tastes good and costs the same as all the other ones.
Question: How would life be better without childhood obesity? Im writing a paper obviously about childhood obesity. I have it pretty much done but i am just looking for a couple new ideas.
Answer: Children would be healthier, not have as many medical problems, etc....
Question: What are some major problems associated with childhood obesity? What is the solution to childhood obesity?
Thank you in advance :D
Answer: There are huge problems with this... early childhood obesity could lead to life long health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, (regarding diseases and health issues... the list just goes on and on), low self esteem (bad self imaging), low quality of life and/or early death.
I believe the solution is that we as a nation (here in the U.S. at least) need to stress to every man, woman, and child the importance of eating healthy, eating the appropriate portions, exercising regularly (from a young age), and/or just staying active in general.
We are already seeing the stress that our unhealthy nation is putting on our health care system. Our current health care system is simply unsustainable if we as a nation don't change.
The amount of unfunded money they have promised / "allotted" for Medicare is staggering! Things need to change in a hurry!
Question: Does anyone have any good slogans for a campaign to fight childhood obesity? I am in Student Council at my school and we are raising money to fight childhood obesity, does anyone have any good slogans we could use.
Answer: Faster runners do not eat fast foods.
Friends don't let fat friends eat burgers and fries.
Pizza and chips wider the hips.
Drink water. It's cheap and fills you up with what you body really needs.
Close your mouth and open your eyes to childhood obesity.
Organize a walk for obesity to raise awareness and then have people write facts on the backs of their tv shirts like how many calories are in a Mountain Dew. Or how many kids are overweight.
Question: How should our schools address the childhood obesity epidemic? Besides promoting nurtition and exercise, do schools have any further responsibility to obese students? Should schools make nutrition and exercise classes mandatory to kids who have a very unhealthy BMI? Should this be the responsibility of the parents instead? Is this a form of child neglect that requires state intervention?
How should our schools address the childhood obesity epidemic?
Answer: it really wouldn't be that hard. first of all, they need to restore p.e. to 5 days a week. most schools have cut it back to 1 or 2 days.
second, they need to quit serving crap in the lunchroom. offer the kids salads instead of tater tots and greasy pizza.
finally they need to reinforce this by teaching them how to make good decisions about food and the importance of being physically active.
yes, parents should take responsibility for this, but many obviously don't.
Question: beginning to write my research paper on childhood obesity how should i start off? my thesis is the most significant long-term consequence of childhood obesity is its persistence into adulthood, along with numerous associated health risks.
Answer: I would begin with research.
Use PubMed, PsychoInfo, your library's catalog, Academic Search Premier, etc. and other databases to find relevant articles on obesity and health risks. After doing some research then come to a hypothesis.
One of the main errors that students make is that they come to a conclusion previous to doing the research, and then just research to support an opinion. This is a major flaw in information literacy.
The easiest way in which to begin your research is by contacting a reference librarian at your university, school, or public library. Many have IM service now so you don't even have to leave home.
Question: What is a good website that talks about childhood obesity.? I need to research childhood obesity for a class i got, is there anywebsites that i can go to that can tell me all the solutions the world has tried to fight against it.i need to know history of it and statistics and so on.
Answer: try www.blubberbusters.com It's all about obesity in kids and teens
Question: Childhood obesity paper topics to write about? I've got a paper to write for Biology class on childhood obesity. The paper has to be 4 pages single spaces and I was wondering what would be good topics to write about? I really appreciate your help!
I can write whatever I want as long as it deals with childhood obesity, thanks for all the topic suggestions!
Answer: Consider a dietary approach. How misleading is it to say that something is 1/3 less fat or fat free! but contains a huge amount of sugar and or high fructose corn syrup. *hint* Sugar not instantly utilized, gets stored for later use as, you guessed it, fat.
Here's the one that REALLY burns my cookies... My daughter had a "scheduling conflict" in high school this year. She has to take P.E. -- online! Let's here it for the Nintendo generation having grown up to become school administrators and teachers! Having spent most of my adult life (literally) running with the Marine Corps, this sounds like an Air Force plot!
