Constipation
Question: constipation? Ive been constipated for 4 days already.... Is there any home remedies to cure constipation??? please help very painful
Answer: drink hot water, with a little lemon juice hourly. it will stimulate the intestines. soaking in a hot bath will also help.
You can also get glycerine suppositories to help stimulate the rectum or little sliver of soap the size of the tip of you little finger, pushed in the rectum will also help move things along.
Question: CONSTIPATIOn? I have had constipation for more than ONE MONTH. I have gone but i need laxative to go. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. The doctor told me i just need to exersise more and eat fiber, TWICE. WHAT THE HELL?!? I do not think this is a small thing, but what do i know? i need help. I have even thought about stopping eating so i dont have to deal with it.
I AM 14 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS PISSING ME OFF.
Answer: Make sure to drink lots of water and eat veggies and roughage. Don't use laxatives regularly or your system will not work without them. You can use a fiber pill for a while until your body gets straightened out but stay away from the laxatives.Water helps a lot and exercises will also. Best wishes.
Question: CONstipation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Hi i have REALLy bad constipation prob. I tried everything!! I ate fiber, prunes, prune juice warm water, veggie and fruit juices, warm water, flaxseed, laxavates.... EVRYTHING. I have been like this for 3 days!!!! what should I do????????? THX! no making fun plz!
Answer: If you have had no stool passage after all of these remedies, it may be time for a fleets enema.
Should you have results after the enema, I would continue the practice of having plenty of fiber and water in your daily diet.
Question: CONSTIPATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? I was born with Bowel Conditions, I can never go to the toilet properly without taking my Laxitive. Sometimes i forget to take it, Sometimes i just cant be bothered to take it, (My fault) i know.
Its called Dulcolax, Sodium Picosulfate. If i dont take it for like 2 weeks i dont go to the toilet for days on end. When i take my medicene after 2 weeks of not taking it, it gives me cronic pains in my stomach and anus, and is it even normal to be able to feel the fecal matter in your stomach with ur hands???
Btw i'm 15 if that helps??
Answer: Is there a question in there? You stated that you keep doing the same thing over and over and yet surprised when the same results occur each time. Being 15 doesn't help. At age 15, it's time to accept responsibility for being able to take your medicine.
Question: How can I help my wife from constipation? She's been occasionally suffering from constipation. Is this not because she is already 57 years of age? Is it because at our age, digestive system starts to malfunction? And could constipation go to cancerous case?
Answer: Many people suffer from occasional constipation. Usually constipation isn't a serious matter and is correctable and preventable by making a permanent change in eating habits and lifestyle. Increase dietary fiber, water intake to 2-3 liters/day, and increase phsyical activity. The occasional (and I stress occasional) use of a stool softener or laxative is fine. She can speak to her doctor about this and her constipation.
Constipation is more common in people over the age of 65.
Whether this will lead to cancer or whether the constipation is due to cancer, remains to be seen. There would be other signs and symptoms. At this point, I would not be concerned about it. If her constipation becomes chronic or cannot be remedied by my suggestions, she should report this to he doctor.
Question: What is the difference between constipation and severe constipation? I want to know what is the difference between constipation and severe constipation, as far as definition. causes and symptoms.
Thank you
Answer: Constipation is where you have to strain to get the stool out.
Severe constipation is where you need to take medical or physical action to empty the bowel.
Both have the same essential cause which is slowed transit time in the bowel leading to dehydrated, hardened stools.
Here is the link to the bristol stool chart - with sufficient fluids and fibre a normal stool is a 3, 4 or 5.

Question: Can Soy Milk cause constipation? What are the affects of drinking too much soy? Foods that help constipation? I have bad constipation and bowel problems, and I'm also lactose intollerant (milk makes my constipation worse), so I've been drinking 4 glasses of soy milk a day, eating soy cheese, and drinking a soy protein drink. Is that too much soy, and does soy cause constipation? I take magnesium and miralax for the constipation, but what foods might help the constipation (besides prunes)?
Answer: Soy milk/products might, because it has a lot of protein in it. Try All-Bran buds in the morning with just a bit of your soy milk, and try to drink a lot of water as well.
Question: What can a gal with gastroparesis do to ease constipation from lack of fiber? I have recently been diagnosed with postviral gastroparesis. Although I am tolerating the low fat low diet fairly well (oh how I miss fresh veggies and loathe baby food!), I have developed a strong tendency towards constipation. I believe this is due to the "low fiber" part of my diet. I am a little concerned about this because of a strong family history of colon cancer, and fiber is said to help prevent it... What can I eat or take to relieve the constipation?
Answer: Hey, I'm very sorry about your recent diagnosis. I also have gastroparesis. My gastroenterologist recommended Miralax to me. I haven't tried it yet because I haven't had problems with constipation, but it's supposed to be a mild, but effective laxative. I know what you mean about baby food... ugh! I prefer blended up soups now to baby food, except the fruit ones are ok. You should check out the yahoo group for gastroparesis. They offer a lot of support and advice for fellow patients. The link is http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/gastroparesis/. They are a wonderful group and it's a great place to vent when you're having a rough day. Good luck to you.
Question: What can you do for extremely severe constipation? If it's stuck and you can't go no matter how hard you try, what can you do. All the foods they recommend could help prevent a problem, but they don't seem to fix the problem if you already have it. Will you eventually die? Is it life threatening if it's stuck. If you already eat all fruits and vegetables and exercise daily, what would cause terrible constipation? How do you treat it?
Answer: There are several medical problems that can cause constipation, but it can also be a problem of your digestive system. Its best to get a full exam from your doctor. If you can pass gas then eventually you will move your bowels. If you cant then you have a bowel blockage and yes that can be life threatening, but the pain that you have from it will have you running to the ER for answers instead of your computer. There are many things that you can buy over the counter for constipation. You can always go to your local pharmacy and ask them whats best to get depending on your age and situation. The most effective way to relief constipation is giving yourself an enema. Best of luck to you!!
Question: Will lettuce work to help cure fish constipation? I am currently soaking some dried split peas, but they will take a little while to moisten. Will lettuce work until then? Will the constipation kill my fish if I don't take care of it soon, and if so, how long do I have?
Penny, read the answers to my question about my Black Moore.
I'm worried about fasting my fish because I have other fish in there. I have a couple more fancy goldfish and a shubunking. I also have a loach that eats every day.... I have no quaranteen tank.
Answer: Okay, see, the reason that your fish are constipated is because they are eating too much. The food goes in, but it's not coming out. So, don't worry that you need to feed them something. You need to give them time for that food to want to come out. Actually, a fish should be fasted for 3 days before the peas are fed anyway. So, use this time to fast your fish. Yes, the constipation could kill your fish, but mostly only if you keep overfeeding them. It's really impossible to say how long this could take one way or the other. Just take it one step at a time. Fast for 3 days, then feed the peas, mashed a little if necessary (split peas already have the skins removed), for 3 days. Then see how they're doing from there. If they're still bloated, it could be swim bladder disorder, as they mentioned in your first question, so then the treatment would have to go from there.
Question: How can I get constipation relief when on a low calorie diet? I'm on a low calorie diet, and I frequently deal with constipation issues. I only have a bowel movement 2 or 3 times a week. I eat plenty of fiber, exercise, and drink water. What else can i do to make my digestive system more regular?
Answer: If you're eating fiber and drinking lots of water and you're still getting no bowel movement daily, you may want to eat the fiber in the form of fruit exclusively and in the morning. Apples, pears, and dried prunes. But you should not take large amounts of fiber suddenly, it can actually constipate you.
Start small and build up your fiber intake. Give it a few days. If the fruit still isn't working, you can be fairly certain you are taking in too few calories and your body is fighting back.
Use a calorie calculator like the BMR & RMR calculator at http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.php
Its calculations are very accurate. It will keep you from eating too much, or too little, to shed the pounds.
Question: How many days of constipation before seeing a doctor? Constipation states yesterday. Much more than I've ever been. Very little made its way out. Today absolutely nothing has come out. How long should I go before seeing a doctor?
I should also note that the problem isn't getting it to move, but getting it out the exit. It feels too small. My urine is also very orange. I guess I have to drink more.
When should I make an appointment with my GI doctor? It will probably take three days to get in.
Answer: I was constipated for a week once, when I was 13 years old. At the end of that week, I got cramps. Bad. Turned out, my appendix was about to bust.
Question: How long does constipation usual last for? I coulnd't go toilet now for about 3 days now. Is it normal for constipation to last for a month? If not then hfor ow long do you think it usually lasts?
Answer: A strange way of phrasing your question! Constipation lasts until it's cured. If you haven't had a bowel action in 3 days, then take some stewed fruit and plenty of fluids. If you still can't 'go' then take a mild laxative, available from your pharmacist. If you haven't had a bowel action in a MONTH, then you must be ready to explode!
To stop yourself from becoming constipated in the future, take a look at your diet and modify it accordingly.
Question: How to prevent constipation in little babies? My daughter is 6 months old. I started introducting solids about a month ago and she seems to have stomack problems. Which foods can be introduced at this age to prevent constipation?
Answer: hi Snowanka!
I haven't had children yet but there are a LOT of babies in my family heheh...whenever this problem arised doctors told us that the causes of constipation in babies include:
Formula too strong - if your baby is bottle-fed, make sure the formula is made up correctly, so that there is not too much formula powder for the amount of water.
Different formula - changes to the milk formula (especially swapping to ‘follow-on’ formula or cow’s milk).
Not enough drinks - in warm weather, bottle-fed infants require extra fluid such as cooled, boiled water between formula feeds. Breastfed infants may require more frequent feeds.
Solids not right for baby - use the correct solid foods for the age of your baby. Be aware that excessive use of legumes (peas, lentils etc) and high fibre cereals are not appropriate for young infants.
Difficulty passing poo - sometimes a hard poo can cause a little tear or crack in the skin around the anus and this can hurt the baby. The baby seems to know that it hurts to do poo and so ‘holds on’. Then the poo becomes even harder and will be more painful to pass.
Treating constipation in babies:
Increasing fibre from wholegrain cereals and consuming large quantities of fruit, vegetables and water may not be suitable for an infant with constipation. Follow usual advice from your child health nurse or doctor regarding introduction of solids for infants less than one year. Suggestions to treat constipation in babies include:
If your baby is bottle-fed, check the formula tin to make sure the formula is being made correctly. Always measure the water first and then add formula powder.
Offer extra drinks of water.
Gentle tummy massage can help.
A warm bath may help the baby’s muscles to relax (be prepared for them to poo in the bath).
Give only those medicines prescribed by your doctor.
Things you should NOT do when a baby is constipated
There are some things you should not do to treat constipation in babies:
Don’t give prune juice - it contains a natural bowel irritant and is not suitable for infants under nine months of age, even when diluted.
Don’t add any form of sugar, malt extract or rice cereal to formula - it will not help the constipation.
Hope I helped in some way...take care bye!!
Question: What are some completely natural and safe remedies for constipation? I am frequently constipated even though I eat plenty of fiber, stay hydrated and exercise. My stools are normal size and aren't too hard; I just have a hard time pushing them out. I often feel like I have a full colon and rectum (sorry for the details). I used ex lax a few times with success, but I don't want to become dependent on it. I can't stand prunes by the way. What are some safe remedies for constipation?
Answer: coffee
Question: Why do I have constipation and blood clotting on first day of period? On the first day of my period i have constipation and blood clotting which makes it very painful. However everything lasts for one day and then i get normal periods for 2-3 days. But those 7-8 hours of the first day are very painful. Is it normal? How should it be treated?
Answer: Your uterus is filling up with blood and pressing on your transverse colon causing your bowels to slow down and even more cramping.
Try mixing a chamomile tea enema; brew a cup of tea and add it to about a quart of water in a regular normal enema bag. Make sure water is warm not hot this will unclog your bowels and soothe your entire abdominal area.
