Daily Calcium Intake
Question: How can I increase my daily intake of calcium? I already eat cheese and drink milk, but what other foods have high calcium? And will increasing my calcium make my teeth whiter and stronger?
Answer: If you increase your eating of sardines, broccoli, and green vegetables like bok choy or kale this will be a good beginning in your efforts to increase the foods you eat that have natural calcium in them. Don ‘t forget milk and other diary products, they are the easiest sources so increase you intake of these daily. You can also increase your intake of calcium from fortified cereals and juices. This is another easy source.

Question: What is the recommended daily intake of calcium for a woman between 30 & 40 yrs old? I need to know because i don't believe i'm getting enough in the vitamins that i'm currently taking. thanks!
Answer: The U.S. R.D.A. for calcium in young women is 1300 milligrams. This is not a difficult amount to take in: one cup of skim milk contains 300 milligrams, and a cup of yogurt contains over 400 milligrams of calcium. A glass of milk three times a day will account for about 75% of the R.D.A.! However, many adolescents drink other beverages with meals, and don't consume an adequate amount of calcium. Recent studies have shown that beverage choice alone is a good predictor of overall nutritional health in children.(1) however, if you are pregnant or breast feeding, you may need more. I'll post a link below with more info

Question: What is the daily calcium intake required for an adult female? Is there a recent study on the absorbtion rate of calcium and the minimum dose requirement
Answer: This mineral is essential for strong healthy bones and teeth and plays an active role in the body's immune system. A lack of calcium in the diet is a contributing factor to osteoporosis, a condition that causes brittle bones in adults. The daily intake of calcium required by an adult is around 800mg. High levels of calcium are found in dairy products such as milk and yoghurt. On average 250ml or half a pint of cow's milk or 150g/5oz of yoghurt contains 300mg of calcium.
In addition, calcium is available in the following non-dairy food sources:
almonds
brazil nuts
broccoli
calcium enriched soya cheeses
calcium enriched soya milks
curly kale
dried apricot and figs
hazelnuts
mackerel
okra
oysters
pilchards
pulses
salmon
sardines
sesame seeds
spinach
tofu
watercress.
Some dairy products are high in fat so you should meet your body's calcium needs by eating a diet containing a balance of dairy and non-dairy foods.

Question: what is a daily calcium intake of a human body?how many glasses of milk should be taken daily ?
Answer: The amount of calcium actually taken in will vary from one individual to another, depending on diet and eating habits. If what you are really asking is "What is the daily recommended amount of calcium?", then the answer is for infants to 6 months old: 210mg/day; infants 7 months to 12 months: 270mg/day; 1-3 years: 500mg/day; 4-8 yrs.: 800mg/day; 9-18 yrs.: 1300mg/day; For both men & women 19-50 yrs.: 1000mg/day. For 50 and up: 1200mg/day. For pregnant and lactating women: 1300mg/day up to age 18; 1000mg/day for 19 and older.
There are calcium sources other than milk. All dairy products will provide a source. Additional sources are grains, egg yolks, legumes, nuts, broccoli, kale, mustard and turnip greens. And there are always supplements.
If you prefer to get your calcium from milk, one 8 oz glass of whole milk contains approximately 290mg of calicum. I've done most of the work, so you can do the math.
Question: I take a daily Multivitamin and a 100% daily calcium pill, is that good enough? Should I add some fish oil or some other important vitamin? I just want to live a healthy life, grow tall, strong, and I guess just be a good guy. Just let me know, thanks :)
Multivitamin has: vita A, C, D, E, K, B6, B12, and plenty of other junk like riboflavin and iron.
Calcium one has: 100% daily intake of calcium only.
Answer: That is great, what brand of multi are you taking though?
About the omega three fish oil-
Eating fish like WILD- salmon, sardines, and herring
two-three times a week will give you all the omegas you need! :)
As a male you don't need iron in your multi- you don't need very much anyway, and even SAD (Standard American Diets) generally have enough iron in them!
I take a selenium supplement also (by Country Life)
Some studies have shown that 200mg help protect against cancer...
@ the first poster-
No, food alone will not offer all the vitamins and minerals your body needs in one day! A multi vitamin is needed...
Question: What Is The Best Daily Nutritional Intake For A Person Like Me? I Am A 33yr, 160lb Old Male That Is In Need Of Some Answers Concerning Daily Intake Of Calcium, Sodium, Carbohydrates, Water, Sugar, Cholesterol, Fat, And Callories. I Want To Start Eating More Healthier. Thank You.
Answer: The government put together a website in accordance with the USDA's Dietary Guidelines. It's very useful, and very easy to use. Use the following web addresses. The first is the homepage of the site, the second is a page where you can set up a FREE account to track your daily progress not only of nutritional intake but also your daily activity which is just as important! The tracker lets you know if you've met your recommended daily intake for each particular nutrient based on your height, weight, sex, and physical activity level.
Whatever you do, don't subscribe to any of these crash or fad diets, and certainly do not take any prescribed diets from anyone without first checking their credentials. For your safety you should make sure that they are a Registered Dietician.
Hope this has helped!
Question: How much calcium should an "average" young woman intake daily? I've always known to drink my milk, and start early to prevent osteoperosis, and what not, but, I was just wondering how much milk and/or dairy products should i eat/drink on a daily basis? Lets say the age between 18-30. Thanks!
Answer: Between 1000 and 1200 mg of calcium per day is a good recommendation.
I don't eat dairy products, so I take a supplement or eat other foods high in calcium like broccoli.
I attached a link that has a really good article on calcium.
Question: recommended calcium intake? what is the maximum recommended daily calcium intake for a 15 year old girl?

Question: Is milk really not counted anymore in your WeightWatchers daily points allowance? My friend has told me that in one of the WW meetings she went to they said how milk is not counted anymore as it is considered part of your necessary daily calcium intake. I'm doing the diet but I am not a member anymore, so I can't go to a meeting without joining. I love coffee with milk so they used to take a lot of my points away from my allowance.
If you haven't heard this from a meeting and instead you saw it online, can you give the link to where you found it please?
Thanks for your help
Answer: milk is pretty high in calories - i don't see how they could not count it - i struggled with weight watchers though because it was really too low calorie for me and I always felt deprived. I think they want you to lose weight too fast. I think a slower weight loss would be just fine and if you want to drink the milk, do. If you hit a plateau deal with it then. But, remember milk gives you protein, dairy, and lots of nutrients so you could get creative in how you count it.
Question: Is chalk edible? Or pure calcium carbonate for that matter? If so: is it a more eco-friendly option than milk for daily calcium intake?
For future reference: I have literally nor form of craving for for eating chalk.
I was just curious, it always seemed a little odd to me that milk: a substance that naturally anyone over 5 wouldn't be drinking, now adds up to out entire calcium intake.
Would pure calcium be harmful? Did we once obtain our calcium from plants? Where do cows get theirs from?
Answer: idk. it might not be hygeinic if it is. you dont know how its manufactured.
Question: Is soy milk a source of calcium? do soy products contain calcium? How do Silk lovers get their daily calcium intake???
I actually prefer the taste of it over reg. milk. I'm not vegan or lactose intolerant or anything like that. I just like the stuff! haha
Answer: Absolutely! Good for you for considering soy milk.
Measure for measure, soymilk has as much calcium as animal milk. So enjoy the soy without worrying about the calcium. If you don't like the flavor of plain soymilk, you can buy the vanilla or chocolate flavored ones, or you can get the plain stuff and flavor it up as you like at home. You can even put instant coffee and a sweetener of your choice.
Enjoy!
Question: How can I get calcium? I thought that I was lactose intolerant, but apparantly it is something else. I started using the Lactaid milk and also the Soy milk and both give me the same symptoms as regular milk. I also have problems with sour cream, whipped cream, ice cream, excess of cheese. The only thing that I can handle seems to be yogurt - but not in excess. Are there other ways in which I can get my total daily calcium intake without eating spinach three times a day?
Answer: They sell calcium supplement chews, called Viactive. These are very good for those who do not get enough through their diet.
Also, next time you are in the supermarket, stroll down the aisle that has the orange juice. Some now had added calcium in it.
