Food Content
Question: How do I erase food content on My Weightloss Coach for Nintendo DS? You can add items to your food balance and I made a mistake. I just need to know how I can go back and erase those items. I didn't wrap up the day, so I can still modify it. I bought this used, so there was no manual. Please help...
Answer: there should be a small ??????????????????? next to the onion button on top of the carrot. if not, then just find the red turtle shell, pick it up, and head to the top of king Goomba mountain. you will then see a giant king Goomba waiting with his back towards you. walk a little closer and he will turn around. there will be a cut scene, and he will talk for awhile. after he is done talking, run around him until you get behind him. once there, press the B button to pick him up. then walk toward the edge of the mountain to throw him off. do this a few times and you will beat the king Goomba. then you just jump up, get the star, and BOOM! you just beat the 1st level on the Goomba Painting.!

Question: How can I determine the fat content of food at home? I am a slave to the chemists and nutrition books. If they say a slice of bacon has 12 grams of fat, then I have to assume that's correct. But, I want a home test to make my own calculations. Perhaps I have a different cooking method e.g. oven vs. frying vs grilling and I want to see for myself which is most fat-free method. Are there any tests which I can perform at home which can determine the actual fat content of food?
Answer: It's not very scientific, but after cooking, you could put the food on a non-coated paper towel and compare the amounts of fat left over.
Question: biology students where asked to find the energy content of food substances how is it calculated? students were made to burn the food substances(maize and peanuts) to find which one has a higher energy content.
it was done by firstly measuring the weight of the substance, then burning the substance while holding it under a test tube of 20cm3 of water. the temperature of water was recorded before and after heating.
so now i ask... how can you find the energy content from this info.
Answer: one calorie is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of one gram of water by one degree C.
Multiply 20 x the temperature increase and divide by the weight of the food = calories per gram.
Question: Do lemon juice and vinegar really reduce fat content of food, or does it just taste so? I have gall stone problems and suffer great pain when I eat fatty food, so I'm on a strict low-fat diet. I miss olive oil and fatty fish like salmon (even wonder whether I should have a bit - they're so good for you), but I fear the pain of an attack. Does masses of lemon juice (for example in salmon soup) really reduce the fat content, or does it just TASTE less fatty?
Answer: Lemon juice and vinegar do not reduce the actual fat content of foods. The acidity in the juice will counteract the oily flavors and textures of fats, but the overall fat content will remain the same.
I hope you feel better.
Question: Does the fat content of the food you eat higher or lower the fat content of your breast milk? This is probably a stupid question. But like the heading says if the food you eat in a day is higher in fat will it cause your breast milk to be higher in fat, and if you eat something lower will it make the fat content lower?
Suggested Category Science & Mathematics > Zoology sorry had to put it thought it was funny.
Answer: According to research diet does not affect the average amount of fat or calories in breast milk. You can change the types of fat in breast milk by altering the types of fats that are consumed.
The degree of emptiness of the breast is what research has shown to drive breast milk fat content, and thus calorie content. The fuller the breast, the lower the fat content of the milk; The emptier the breast, the higher the fat content of the milk.
The research shows that baby's milk intake (the volume of milk - not the amount of fat in that milk) is the only thing that has been correlated with infant growth in exclusively breastfed babies.
Question: Is there a website that will give me info on the calorie content of food? I know that for prepared foods, I can just read the packaging. But I'd like to know the approximate calorie content of cooked foods such as baked potato, tablespoon of sour cream, a hamburger, etc. Thanks.

Question: Is high calcium content in dog food bad for large-breed puppies? Why? I read this from one dog food company: "the goat variety is not appropriate for large-breed puppies due to high calcium content."
Why is high calcium content bad for large-breed puppies?
Okay, but it doesn't say for small dogs. It says that only for large breed puppies, too much calcium is bad. Why? What makes it worse for a large breed puppy to have high calcium in their diet that doesn't make it bad for a small dog?
Answer: High calcium in a large breed puppy's diet is bad! Why? Because calcium promotes joint growth and fast growth. Large breed puppies that grow too fast (Which comes with high calories, calcium, and protein) end up having skeletal problems and joint issues later on in life. Some grow too fast and die early, others get things like hip dysplasia or joint damage. It's not good basically and can cause the dog immense pain or even their life early.
Get one with limited protein, calcium, and calories. This will help ensure your dog grows progressively over time, rather than very fast. And depending on the breed, get them on adult food earlier. We own a Great Dane and at 10 months she goes on adult food. Puppy food is made to help puppies grow, and they'll keep growing while on the food. Adult food gives them balance and to keep them at healthy weights rather than continuous growing. If you own a Labrador Retriever or those types, then about the age of one year old switch to a good adult food.
Good luck with your dog!
Question: How much does the nutritional content in food change when you cook it? Fat? I thought that generally things like vegetables lose vitamins when they're cooked. However, I am surprised when using this food calculator online (fitday.com), where one cup of cooked carrots has 2 grams more of fat than 1 cup of raw carrots. Are they assuming that people add oil or butter to the carrots when they cook them? Or is there some chemical change that happens when you cook foods to raise their fat contents?
Answer: According to nutritiondata.com, half cup of cooked carrots (78g) has no fat (nor does 100grams)
I'm assuming your assumption is correct. Cooked foods lose things, it's rare that they gain nutritional value - tomatoes are supposedly more nutritious canned than raw though.
I *would* highly recommend adding butter to cooked carrots or nuts with raw carrots to make the vitamins bioavailable so they can be incorporated into the body structure.

Another study done a few years ago at Ohio State University showed that salad dressing with oil brings out the best in a salad when compared to no-fat, low-fat dressings.
When the seven test subjects consumed salads with no-fat dressing, the absorption of carotenoids was negligible. When a reduced-fat dressing was used, the added fat led to a higher absorption of alpha and beta carotene and lycopene. But there was substantially more absorption of the healthful compounds when full-fat dressing was used.
Study researchers say they were not only surprised by how much more absorption occurred with the avocado added to the meal, but they were taken aback at how little the body absorbed when no fats were present. "The fact that so little was absorbed when no fat was there was just amazing to me," says Dr. Clinton.
Question: Vitamins and Minerals on food content? I read online a lot of people are deficient in Zinc especially strict vegetarians. I'm vegan so I looked up food containing Zinc. The third highest food containing Zinc (beef and beef liver were 1st and 2nd) was lima beans. However none of the lima bean packages I found in the grocery store said they contained any Zinc. They listed some Iron in them but no Zinc. So my question is can it contain Zinc and not have it listed?
btw I still bought them and they were awesome!
Answer: The government does not require they list Zinc on the nutrition label.
The only vitamins and minerals that are required to be listed are Vitamins A and C, Calcium and Iron.
They only have to list the content if they make a claim about it (like if the front label reads "contains vitamin d" then they have to list it) otherwise, any other content is optional.
Just because a particular vitamin or mineral is not listed doesn't mean the food does not contain it. Comprehensive lists of nutrients can be found on the USDA website for standard foods : http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/
Question: What percentage of the calorie content of this food is fat? A particular chip snack food is composed of 14% protein, 11% fat, and the rest carbohydrate. What percentage of the calorie content of this food is fat?
Answer: i guess no more than 7%
Question: What is the best brand of dog food (high meat content) for my LARGE puppy? My *puppy* is 11 months old and 90 pounds...he has recently developed skin allergies and I want to put him on the BEST food possible within my budget...he has been on Iams smart puppy *large breed* since I have had him.(at 12 weeks).
I am curious as to which food has the best reputation and highest meat content.. I want him to be healthy :)
I am willing to spend a decent amount of money
If you post a certain food, could you also put what price and where it may be obtained
Thanks
Ask Michael vick? I dont appreciate your moronic answer in a pathetic attempt to get 2 points!
Answer: If your dog is developing skin allergies, try to get a food with a single meat source and a single grain if possible, that way there are fewer ingredients for him to be allergic to and his problems are less likely to flare up. Also remember with these foods you have less fillers, so even though it may be more per pound, after they adjust to the food you'll be feeding smaller portions so in the end the price per month for food evens out.
Canidea is probably the most economical of the "human grade" or "holistic" kibbles. They have a Lamb & Rice and a Chicken & Rice that would be good for your guy.

33lb bag is about $25
California Natural also has some good alergy formulas.
PetNetDirect.com sells a 20lb bag of Hearing & Sweet Potato for $26.49

Try to stay away from Corn, bi-products and multiple protein sources, typically multiple meat sources aren't a bad thing, but they can create challenges when you're working with allergies.
Question: Where can I get info about the potassium content of different food items? I have a family member who was told by his dr. to restrict his potassium consumption, but the list he got was only a few food items. I am looking for a list that would tell the potassium content of just about any food (American foods, mainly). I know that some packaged foods might list the potassium content, but some items such as fresh fruits, veggies, do not come with labels. Thanks.
If you know of a reliable list on the internet, that'd be great.
Answer: Doctors sometimes prescribe a potassium supplement and recommend eating more potassium-rich foods.

Question: What's a good name for a science project on if age and gender affect your ability to tell fat content in food? Our project is on if age and gender affect your ability to tell the difference between high and low fat content in foods. We need a good, short name that we can put on our display board.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Answer: Age and Gender Fat Defender! :D
Question: I am lookig to set up home based lab, where I can run some test on the food content of animal feed..Any ideas a dairy farm operation...need to find out protein, mineral, toxic, etc content of feed mix and feed rations as well as local legumes
Answer: you have to figure out really high sanitation standart in the lab to be place. otherwise you ll see a lot s of false results and failures. both food and dirt are same growing cells.
Question: how do they test the calories content in food? i was just wondering how do they find out how many calories a certain food has, and how do they know how many carbs/protein/fat does it have?
what i mean is how do they find out the info they put in the calories content on the food packages?
Answer: The figure is derived only after weighing the huge amount of foods separately before packing and is taken into account after scientific methods better to say computing through the help of computers.
