Healthy Eating
Question: Healthy eating? I’m trying to eat healthy. What have you done to eat healthy? I could make a chart of what I eat. Should I watch Calories, Carbs etc. I am 13. I don’t want to loss weight or anything! I’m not anorexic! But, I would just like to watch what I eat and not over eat. But of course I don’t want to under eat or anything. Should I reward my self if I eat healthy? Like I could say I can’t go to the mall or movies or whatever until I have ate with out extra food for a week or something? You know? I just don’t know where to begin!! What would you suggest?
Thanks, Cailin
Yeah I've been doing very little fast food anyways. But could I eat there like once a month? or less acually because we only eat at fast food places on trips
Answer: First you have to be committed to what you are going to do like that chart idea you suggested. Make sure that you read the nutrition label and get proper serving sizes to make graphing easier i.e. a handful, half a bowl, and things like that. Meaning if you eat something eat a full serving size of it to be more precise. To keep away pounds eat only 70 grams of fat and about 3000 calories a day. That will ensure no more weight gain. The carbs provide energy ,but too many carbs can contribute to weight gain. So eat only 3 slices of bread the whole day. As for the rewards it's good to reward yourself when you accomplish your goal. If you can't meet your goal and you did your best than just stay home and plan what you will eat for tomorrow. Don't think about not eating food for any amount of days because we need at least 1000 calories a day to maintain your energy levels. Plus do it too many days and you'll get malnutrition. So, make a chart of what you eat, get precise portions, don't go over 70 grams of fat and 3000 calories, and last but not least if you over eat don't feel bad just plan what you will eat tomorrow, and if you under eat just eat anything that won't go over the limit too much or not at all preferably. This is what I think u should do for your problem.
Question: healthy eating? I need help in eating healthy. I grew up in a family that cooked greasy fatty foods so i wouldnt even know where to begin to eating healthy. I go to the gym but I just cant eat healthy foods without it being nasty or starving myself. Any ideas on breakfast, lunch and dinner healthy meals that are actually good?
Answer: I use a simple rule, the closer you stick to raw, natural foods (like veggies, nuts, whole grains, and fruits), the healthier you will be. This simple plan has worked so well, I lost 50 pounds and no longer have to take diabetes medication. More here:

Question: How important is healthy eating for your fertility? I'm planning on starting my family in a couple of years (God willing) and i've been looking at my diet now... I am slim but I do eat a lot of junk food... I have started my healthy eating regime today.
But how important is it to eat healthily, how does it affect fertility?
Thanks in advance!
Answer: it is very important to eat healthily, as it is for your own health and eventually the health of your baby. you need to get all the essential nutrients, and this is not possible from a diet high in junk food. once pregnant you will feel lethargic etc, and this is because the growing baby takes all the best parts of your ingested vitamins, minerals etc, for itself, leaving you with not much, so you need to make sure you eat enough for both of you. your diet now will affect your menstrual cycle. also the diet affects the health of your body tissues. if you have a bad duet your tissues will be in poor health, so your uterus will not be in the optimum state for implantation of the foetus to take place. good luck!

Question: What are some tips for healthy eating and gradual weight loss? As of tomorow i want to start eating really healthily and avoid snacking on bad things like crisps and chocolate. Id also like to loose a few pounds.Do you have any tips on eating healthy?
Answer: Try calorie shifting, the idea behind the diet is to instead of avoiding food, embrace it and use it to your benefit to improve your metabolism. This way you'll actually continue to burn fat even once you stop the diet.
The major problem with all diets that limit your calorie intake is that they as a result weaken and lower the effect of your metabolism on the foods you eat and actually make your body much more prone to storing calories as a result. Much like when an animal goes into hibernation, your body will go into scarcity mode and begin holding onto anything it can.
That's the main reason that people experience rebound effects from diets. Calorie shifting actually does it right because it changes the way your body utilizes food and as a result you lose weight and keep it off when you stop.
I'll throw in a link to a popular calorie shifting diet program in my source box for you to learn more about it.
Question: How to promote healthy eating at a younger age ? Okay so for my sociology class our task is to be an advocate for change in a social behavior or attitude.
I noticed that children have bad diets because they are always eating junk food and the parents bring home fast food often and/or go out to eat.
The thing i am trying to prove is that we can change these habits by promoting healthy eating at a younger age. HOWWWW???????
PLEASE BE SPECIFIC.
Answer: Explain the importance of healthy eating. Gradually make changes. Allow them to have noodles and other such stuff but change the way.
One thing has to be noted. If you want your children to stay healthy, you must only cook food that nourishes your child completely.
Maggie/ noodles are the skipper of all foods when it comes to some of the children. Do not worry. Serve them with hot piping noodles but don’t forget to add finely chopped/grated vegetables that you can think of.
As an alternative, add all fruits finely chopped and sliced that one can think of or as per your child’s liking. These additions not only make the noodles tasty and healthy but more presentable.

Question: How to keep up with my exercises and healthy eating? I'm going on a trip this summer for 3 weeks out east (I'm from BC) and I've recently started doing an hour of cardio everyday, as well it eating healthy. But I'm afraid this trip will mess everything up. Unfortunately, there won't be much cardio machines, we will be eating out a lot. Can you please give me any suggestions on how to keep my exercise and healthy eating going throughout this trip?
Answer: Drink a lot of water. Order relatively healthy foods, like salads. Walk around, visit places to keep yourself busy/active, get involved in activities and the likes of. If you are determined and it is important to you set aside some time to run or do other exercises which do not require machines.
Question: I would like to start an healthy eating and exercise regime? But i need some advice. I am not starting until the summer holidays as i have a lot of revision ahead of me. I am 16, so exams this year. So in summer i want to start healthy eating and an exercise regime, how can i do so. What exercises can i do to add variety and what are so healthy food swaps?
Answer: Got a link here for ya that is absolutely free. Has a ton of different types of workouts to choose from and advice on eating. Whether your goal is building muscle, losing flab or just getting generally fit the answers are here. Easier to send you here and let ya look around than to try and explain it all for you. Because while you have gotten a couple decent answers here so far, you WILL have more questions. Fitness can get really involved and the more you educate yourself the better it will be.

Question: Eating unhealthy is too easy. What's a good tip to make healthy eating easier to do? Fast food restaurants are everywhere. If you're low on money and hungry, you have plenty of unhealthy options and you don't even have to get out of your car. But if you want to eat healthy, it takes much more effort. Does anyone have a good tip about how to make a healthy eating routine easier to accomplish?
Answer: The problem with fast food restaurants for the most part is even the "healthier" choices aren't that good. McDonalds uses Iceberg lettuce, the cheapest and lest beneficial kind.
On the road, try to find a Subway or Mr. Sub. A more economical choice (an healthier) is to keep a stock of healthy foods in your car or purse. Try keeping ready-to-eat cans of tuna, granola bars or even a box of cereal in your car.
For at home, it's more than just what you eat, it's how you prepare what you eat. Don't fry your chicken, grill it. Buy lean cuts of meat, and eat less pork. Avoid bacon, but subsitute for chicken or turkey bacon. A great thing is grapeseed oil. It's cheaper, healthier and better tasting than your regular olive oil.
The most important thing is to be motivated. Set a goal, write it down, put it on a post-it note on your fridge, and stick to it. Find your incentive and think about it before you eat. Lastly, always eat breakfast even if it's a small one. It will boost your metabolism, as skipping breakfast for a year can result in more than 10 pounds of weight gain.
Question: how can i start eating healthy when nothing sounds good? im 15 weeks pregnant, i was doing so good on making sure i was eating healthy but as soon as i hit week14 i started eating like an out of control 1000 pound women. grilled chicken and veggies no longer sound good. i have been eating corn dogs and cup cakes. how do i get back to my healthy eating when it doesnt sound good at all? i still crave fruit but thats the only healthy thing i've been eating. its really important to me to eat healthy and i was a little overweight before getting pregnant so i want to keep my weight gain under control.
Answer: How about yogurt? Fruit was my major craving (they said that was a sign it would be a girl but they were WRONG!), so I found ways to work fruit into every meal. Yogurt and fruit, cereal and fruit, chicken with fresh pineapple, salads with fruit, fruit salads...it must have worked, because I only gained 25 lbs total, and I was a bit overweight to begin with, so I lost it all and then some when I gave birth. Another thing you might try is eat your fruit first, and wait a bit. If you're still hungry, THEN have that corn dog.
Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy.
Question: Has eating healthy and organic helped your family to not get the stomach virus/flu? I have 2 toddlers and a husband and we started eating organic and whole foods about a year ago. This year we still seemed to get the stomach virus, but no one has thrown up at all. It just seems the stomach virus has been much much milder. Has anyone else experienced this? Could our healthy eating really be holding back the stomach virus?
Answer: I think you are lucky.
Eating a good mixed diet, good Hygiene and not getting stressed are two things that contribute to good health and resistance to disease.
Preparing your own meals with good ingredients certainly helps but good food doesn't have to be organic. The jury is still out on that one.
I hope you continue to resist all viruses that lurk around.
Question: Why does everyone automatically equate requests for healthy eating to wanting to lose weight? Some people are already at their proper weight and have an exercise program in place and just want to eat healthier. But every time I see a question about healthy eating folks automatically send in diet and exercise tips or website instead of the answer.
To those of you who actually READ the question Thank you so much.
Answer: Because some people don't read the question, and some people want to show off there big brain. It Bugs me too.
WOW! I Think they are spammers too. That is bogus. I did'nt know that until just now. Christine is on it.
Question: What are some healthy eating habits and snacks? I'm 6'0", weighing in at around 190 lbs. I'd like to shed off a couple of more pounds to look thinner, and I'm concerned that if I don't, then my health will be affected. I'm not fat, but I'm just a little chubby and I'd like to lose that weight. I've decided to go on a healthy diet (I've stopped drinking sodas), but I don't know any good healthy foods or eating habits. What are some good healthy snacks that I could munch on that wouldn't affect my weight, and what are some good ways that I could shed off these extra pounds?
Answer: The best thing you could do is not eat as many calories, as you do on a normal day, but dont starve yourself. Be sure to eat protiens to. Also a proven fact is that diet pops make you gain weight instead of loose weight.
GLAD I COULD HELP =)
Question: How do you keep your child on healthy eating habits? More importantly, how do you get them to START with the healthy eating habits and quit the bad ones?
How do you tell your child they cannot have that second cookie, or that cone of ice cream and avoid their disappointment?
What were some things you did with your children to get them to PREFER eating healthier?
Answer: My daughter loved to eat vegetables and fruit. I didn't have a lot of ice cream and cookies but on a front room table (that she could reach) I had grapes and apples and oranges. She never had to ask if she could eat them. I let her. They were always there and within her reach. BTW we called broccoli - trees and cauliflower - flowers. They were in the fridge already pre cut and cleaned for her.
Question: What time can i watch or listen to healthy eating programmes on tv and radio? What channel and what radio station do they come on and what time they come on?
I want to educate myself about healthy eating. Thanks to whoever gives me the best information and i wont forget your 10 points.
Answer: If you have cable/sky you can watch the Food Channel (cable 260) there's a show called Healthy Appetite where a dietician called Ellie cooks up some amazing dishes that uses minimal healthy oil (canola) and uses lots of herbs/spices to make things taste really good without it being stodgy, or laden in fats. there's also good chef, bad chef that was shown some time ago, but i'm not sure if it's on sky still but it gives you two cooks cooking similar meals one with healthy ingredients and the other normal.
bbc food website is a great place to start it gives you plenty of advice, ideas for simple great yummy dishes
Question: Does healthy eating make you feel good about yourself? After having a healthy diet for a few weeks I don't like the idea of eating junk food. Is this because my body feels good that way.
