Heart Health
Question: heart health? how is it possible to have a blockage without having a heart attack?
Answer: arteriosclerosis can block part of your arteries. to have a heart attack most of your artery needs to be clogged or occluded to reduce the oxygen feeding the heart. when I say most its usually 96% or higher
Question: Heart Health? I suffered a heart attack a month ago. I am home now and fine but waiting for Drs to decide on next course of action, drugs, stents or bypass. My heart is fine, but arteries clogged. The nurse saw me yesterday and said I was fine and can start to exercise and potter about and do anything which does not cause me to puff and pant. Today I have flutters in my chest, is this anything to worry about? My pulse is 48.
Answer: Bradycardia, as applied to adult medicine, is defined as a resting heart rate of under 60 beats per minute, though it is seldom symptomatic until the rate drops below 50 beat/min.
The next medical procedure is coronary angiography.
Coronary angiography is usually done in conjunction with cardiac catheterization.
Before the test starts, you will be given a mild sedative to help you relax.
An area of your body, usually the arm or groin, is cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic. An IV (intravenous) line will be inserted into the area. A thin hollow tube called a catheter is placed through the IV and carefully moved up into one of the heart's arteries. X-ray images help the doctor see where the catheter should be placed.
Once the catheter is in place, the dye (contrast material) is injected into the IV. X-ray images are taken to see how the dye moves through the artery. The dye helps highlight any blockages in blood flow.
Question: What activities are hazardous to heart health and what are some solutions? And what are the benefits of exercise concerning heart health?

Question: How to get your heart health checked? If I go to a primary care doc, he/she will just send a to some radiology or someplace else.
What kind of specialist can I go directly who can do my heart health check-up? I have Aetna PPO so don't need referral.
Answer: A physical exam, lipid profile, echocardiogram and stress test constitute a check for heart health and all can be done by a competent primary provider. If you prefer a cardiologist that would be fine but his bill to Aetna (and your copay if any) will be higher.

Question: how much does stress affect heart health and cholesterol levels? hi, recently my grandmother had an angiogram, and we learned that her arteries are 90% clogged and will have to have open heart surgery. i'm very concerned because she's gotten so old, and i'm afraid she might not make it through the operation.
what i'm confused about is that my grandmom has never had high pressure and always had a good diet. she rarely ate high cholesterol foods, and i don't think anyone in her family had heart problems. she did however have chronic stress and anxiety so i was wondering to what degree stress impacts heart health? she had good cholesterol, but then why are her arteries clogged 90%?
thank u
please anyone?
Answer: Recent studies have pointed to the role that stress plays in increasing cardiovascular inflammation, which in turn is a critical player in cardiovascular disease. Inflammation seems to provide the "glue" that everything else uses to stick to blood vessels.
From an evolutionary perspective this makes some sense. Back in the day, the kind of thing that would stress you out would be a life and death situation, like a lion chasing your butt. In these cases, your body would prepare you to deal with the potential impending butt-biting by flooding your system with chemicals designed to cause blood clotting, etc. Unfortunately, these days stress comes from more benign sources, like paying bills or having a nagging spouse, but the body's reaction to stress remains the same.
The outcome from heart surgery is very good, and generally the doctors have used the patients overall health to make that determination. Hopefully she has had a second opinion to make sure that there isn't a less invasive alternative.
Question: For "heart health" benefits, how long does the cardio workout have to be? Strictly in terms of "heart health" benefits, is there a big difference between cardio sessions of 20-30 mins, 45 mins and 1 hour?
Answer: Minimum 30 minutes. Long isn't necessarily better. What may happen is that your body switches from aerobic to anaerobic, which is a different conditioning factor.
Question: At what age is it proper to start thinking about heart health? I eat what ever I want and drink all the time but I do not smoke. I am normal weight for my age(35) and there is no history of heart problems in my family.
Answer: My two year old niece knows about healthy food and exercise, so it's never too soon. If you're not overweight and your family doesn't have heart problems, make sure you're exercising and getting into the doctor at least once every 24 months for a physical and cholesterol check and you should be fine.

Question: Does weight training help improve your heart health ? I know that cardio is excellent for your heart and lungs. But, when I’m lifting weights my heart obviously beats pretty fast as I lift and for quite a while after, obviously supplying oxygen, blood etc to where it’s needed. I also sweat a fair bit for about an hour after a good workout too.
My question is, is lifting weights helping me to maintain a healthy heart ? I’m not really talking about fat loss aspect, but rather the raise in heart rate, does it have the same benefits as doing a cardio work out ?
Thanks guys.
Answer: if you can lift weights at a rate that will keep your heart beating in that target HR range; then yes, it'll do pretty much the same thing as a cardio exercise.
most likely though, with lifting heavier weights; that's not happening.
Question: Anyone out their believe in the benefits of cayenne pepper for heart health? Congestive heart failure, facing surgery, which at 72 is tricky, and expensive, and I wouldn't bet on the results, just hearing about cayenne pepper and it's benefits, worth a try or not, do you trust the herbal approach or would you stick to the expensive pills that at time just kill your liver and do nothing else. Would love to hear from someone with experience on using this form of medication.
Answer: I would also add to it a CQ 10. 200 mg daily.

Question: Do You REST To Help Your Heart Health INSTEAD Of Focusing TOO Much On Excercise? Does anyone REST adequately for their heart heath?
Answer: Rest is very important but the right kind of rest it must be. Rest simply by being inactive is not necessarily rest because if the person is stressed then being inactive is not going to change that. Meditation on the other hand can provide you with the ultimate in rest. In meditation the aim is not to react to thoughts. In everyday life we react to thoughts spontaneously all the time and without even thinking about it. Not reacting to thoughts is not easily attained but well worth the effort. Start with 5 minutes a day and increase it as you feel inclined. When we react to thoughts emotion is ignited and that means changes in body function. For example anger and fear raise the metabolism and worry lowers it because worry is about thinking and reflecting on a problem and so on. All emotions modify the way the body works. So the body's function is not at its optimum undisturbed level where perfect health can be attained. Of course perfect health is not possible because we live in a real world with real interactions with others that cause us to react, sometimes favourably but sometimes unfavourably. Use an anchor to begin with for your meditation. For instance concentrate on the breath or a candle flame or a mental sound or short phrase. Everytime your mind strays gently bring it back to your anchor. Try to observe any thoughts that are annoying as you would the hustle and bustle of the city from the top of a tall tower. it is just there and it does not involve you! When you get the hang of it you will achieve deep levels of rest that are capable of restoring health from all manner of ailments. Good meditating to you.
Question: What are some ways to market a cookbook that I am writing about the heart health benefits of dark chocolate??
Answer: Marketing a book is not easy. (Been there, done that.)
Before you write the whole darn thing...I would contact a few gourmet food websites and gourmet stores to see if they are interested. Easier to sell to them directly than to go through a bookstore.
Layout your entire plan, including the title of each chapter. And include an excerpt from each chapter. See if they are interested. Make SURE to include your expertise in the area.
Unless you have a publisher, getting a book into a bookstore is an ENORMOUS uphill battle. One you may not win. Hate to say that, but no major bookstore will buy directly from you. At the very least, if you don't have a publisher, you need a distributor. They ONLY BUY from distributors.
