High Protein
Question: High Protein? Can someone tell me the advantages of a very high protein diet? How exactly does it work....I mean, just how much protein are we talking about? Are fruits, veggies and grains allowed at all? Also, what KINDS of protein are we talking about?
Answer: "Protein is an important component of every cell in the body. Hair and nails are mostly made of protein. Your body uses protein to build and repair tissues. You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals. Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin, and blood.
Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning that the body needs relatively large amounts of it. Vitamins and minerals, which are needed in only small quantities, are called "micronutrients." But unlike fat and carbohydrates, the body does not store protein, and therefore has no reservoir to draw on when it needs a new supply."
The amount of protein required is determined by weight and activity level. There is a link in source for whey of life and they have a calculator to determine how much protein you need per day.
When on a high protein diet, other healthy foods like low glycemic level whole grains and vegetables are advisable. Low glycemic is low carbohydrate and sugar levels. Fruits aren't usually on there, or very few are because they are high in natural sugar which makes them high glycemic food.
Types of protein can be from lean meats, chicken, turkey, fish, beans, dairy products like eggs, skim milk, low fat yogurt, cheddar, swiss and muenster cheese and oatmeal. There are also many brands and kinds of protein shakes available as well. There are some that are low carb and no or low fat. Personally I would stick with whey protein as it is better for you than soy protein shakes. More about whey protein can be found at the whey of life link as well.
I hope I've helped answer your questions.

Suffered protein starvation and malnourishment due to weight loss surgery gone bad. Ended up losing entire stomach and must rely on protein shakes and vitamin supplements for nutrition as I am unable to absorb nutrients from food.
Question: high protein? wat r some high protein foods u should eat when working out
Answer: What I like is 30-60 min. before a workout to drink a protein shake. Same thing after your workout, or a potein bar... even better if you workout at home eat a meal after the workout. I crave chicken after my workouts, my trainer told me it was my body craving protein.
A general guideline is around 50g of protein per day for the average person. Now if you're trying to gain muscle then more would be needed to help build the muscle coupled with weight training. I've been told by trainers that a good example would be gram for pound ( if you weight is 180, then try to take in 180g) Personally I think anything between 60 and 120 is good for women 100-150 for men. A few things you can try are:
Protein drinks... Myoplex Lite nutrition shake has 25g
Protein bars... Myoplex deluxe has 30g - Zone bars have 15g
Fat-free yogurt (8oz) has 9g
Tuna fish in water has 13g for every 2 oz.
Red kidney beans 1 cup cooked has 15g
Nuts and seeds depending on the type have around 6-7g per oz. (except walnuts they have 4g)
Fresh Salmon 3oz cooked has 21g
Fresh tuna 4oz cooked has 34g
Beef in general 3oz cooked has around 24-30g
Pork 3oz cooked has 24g (ham 21g)
Chicken 3oz cooked has 25g (legs 21g, drumstick 23g)
Turkey whole 3oz cooked 25g, breast 26g
Even veggies and fruit have protein... not all of them... not high but 1-4g here and there add up
Question: What are some high protein food choices to help increase my metabolism? I have a really low metabolism and am over weight. I need to lose weight in a quick and healthy fashion.
I heard that increasing protein and decreasing carbs will help me to establish and maintain a decent metabolic rate.
What are some high protein choices I could go with?
Answer: Grilled chicken, fish, tofu, beans, Peanut butter. But also make sure you get some healthy carbs in your diet like whole grains, fruits and veggies. Also drink plenty of water bc when you are dehydrated it causes your fat cells to enlarge, so when you supply your body with a good amount of water thoughout the day, you flush out the toxins and your fat cells decrease.

Answer: Yuba - (Tofu skin)During the boiling of soy milk, in an open shallow pan, a film or skin composed primarily of a soy protein-lipid complex forms on the liquid surface. The films are collected and dried into yellowish sheets known as tofu skin or soy milk skin. Because it is derived directly from soy milk, the name tofu skin is technically inaccurate.
Compose of 70-75% of protein.
It is very rare in supermarkets but it is sold in some Chinese restaurants and Sushi bars.

Their are different kind of protein. Some are responsible for muscle growth and some are responsible for good skin and hair.
Most of the animal protein only offers your good muscle but vegan source of protein offers you beautiful skin and good muscle growth. In fact, My friend tells me how good is soy milk to him and he has very big muscles, good skin, better complexion and healthy hair because vegetable protein contains methionine which is responsible for better complexion.
Question: Is it possible to make a high protein shake without protein supplements and how? i was hoping to make high content protein shakes without the use of artificial supplements eg. whey protein powder
is this possible and how? also what would the protein content of the shake be?
Answer: skim milk would definitely need to be one of the ingredients. But why wouldn't you want to use protein powder?
I don't know if you consider a protein bar a supplement but you could definitely throw it in a blender with some milk to make a shake, would be quite thick though.
Question: Is a high protein diet a quick way to lose weight? I recently got down to 9st4lb from 13st, it took a year and i did it by walking and running around after my baby. I've gone upto 9st 10lbs recently but i want to be just under 9st by the beginning of June. I have hit the bar, my exercise isn't shifting anything at all.
If i cut most carbohydrates out and eat a high protein diet will this help shift stubborn weight? I've heard its dangerous so is there a way to make it safer yet still effective?
Answer: Eat a high protein diet but don't cut out carbohydrates completely. Continue to exercise even though you may feel you are not achieving very much. When loosing weight you sometimes hit a "brick wall" which is very discouraging but do soldier on.Don't forget , even though you are eating the "right food" you can still eat too much of the "right food".Its a simple equation , "calories in"- "calories out."
Question: What happens to high protein food if you overcook it? What happens to high protein food if you overcook it?

Question: What are the dangers of having high protein levels when pregnant due in Oct currently on bed rest.? My friends daughter is pregnant she is due in October, her Doctor put her on bed-rest due to high levels of protein. On Monday she will be tested again for protein levels if still high they will be inducing labor. My question is why and what are the dangers?
Answer: I believe that you are referring to high levels of protein in her urine. That is caused by pre-eclampsia. That is just a fancy name for high blood pressure which is caused by the pregnancy. The reason they would induce that is if blood pressure gets too high and stays that way for a long time it can cause seizures and strokes. The protein in the urine over a period of time can cause irreparable damage to the kidneys. The only way to make it go away is to deliver the child.

Question: Is pasteurized milk and raw egg good high in protein and should it be consumed? I've been consuming 2 raw eggs mixed with pasteurized or boiled milk with sugar daily as a source of high protein. I have seen some changes but i just need to confirm weather its good or not.
The sugar is just for taste as raw eggs mixed with milk with out sugar taste awful so i consume it mixing with eggs and I read somewhere that milk causes gums in the intestine with does not allow the protein to be extracted. So raw eggs mixed with milk is good or not.
Answer: okay, as someone said before, raw eggs can get you salmonella
now: raw eggs however is very veryyy easily absorbed by our bodies. which is good
personally, i myself stay on the safe side and boil them and eat them...
egg protein is the highest level of protein, that's why all protein products are compared against egg protein...so yes egg protein is amazing
milk is also very good, now you do NOT want to be adding sugar..actually you want to eliminate all processed/refined sugars from your diet.
other than that it's a good natural way...

Question: What are the best options for a high protein bar? I am a vegetarian and i am looking for a bar that is high in protein that i can take to school. This bar will be replacing my lunch. I am looking for a bar that is high in protein, but still as low in carbs, cals, and sugar as i can porribly find. If possible i want something that is more on the natural side but if if is has everything else i want then the natural part doesnt really matter. Anyone know of anything good?
Answer: get a Fiber One bar. its not a protein bar, but it will do something to your digestive track that can only be explained as a super natural experience. do not plan a date or anything romantic for about 12 hours after consuming,,,,,,,,trust me.
Question: What are the benefits and disadvantages of high protein diets? So me and my friend are both highly active people and we both weigh around the same - which is a little overweight. It would be stupid for us to starve our selves because we do so much exercise that it would be physically and mentally hard to even stand. So i came up with a plan of eating a high protein diet. Ive heard that this helps develop muscles and that high protein meals make you fuller for longer meaning you eat less. Is this true? what are the benefits? what are the disadvantages?
Answer: protein companies want you to eat excessive protein, but truth is most of our western diets contain enough protein to enable us to exercise and loose weight and gain muscle without having to intake expensive calorie rich protein shakes..
3,500 calories = 1 pound of fat.
downside to eating to much protein..it's hard on your system and your liver.
