High-quality Protein
Question: I need a high quality protein shake, what do you recommend from experience? not for body building or anything, but to get adequate amounts of protein in my system for hair loss.
thank you for your time.
Answer: I 2nd the optimum nutrition 100% whey. It disolves in water easy (unlike some proteins), has a high biological value, digestive enzymes, and is easy on the stomache (unlike quite a few proteins). If you get it from bodybuilding.com look for coupons on the internet. And if you get a free gift get the shaker bottle. They have the best one. 1.99.
Question: What's the difference between low quality protein & high quality protein? What are they?
give me examples
Answer: High quality protein is all animal protein such as eggs, meat, poultry, sea food and dairy products that contain adequate amounts of all the 8 or 9 essential amino acids that make up complete protein.
Low quality protein is vegetable protein that is low in one of the essential amino acids. Bread, cereals, pasta and rice are all low in lysine. Beans, peas, lentils and nuts are all low in methionine.
Question: Does hard boiling eggs destroy the high quality protein inside? I love working out and getting as much protien as possible. I know boiling milk destroys the protien in that but i didnt know if it was the same for eggs. Does anyone else know?
Answer: It doesn't destroy the protein in either case, but just like cooking the steak it denatures the protein. Your body can't digest "protein", it needs to be broken down into it's amino acid components as you digest it. So an egg protein, albumin, is a good protein because it contains all 11 of the essential amino acids (the ones your body can't produce but needs to take in through diet).
In short, keep eating eggs hard-boiled. Your body knows what to do with it.
Question: I've noticed some foods say "contains high quality protein". This mean there is a Low Quality Protein? if so, what seperates low quality from high quality protein?
Answer: low quality and high quality has to do with amino acids and how much of the protein your body will use. eggs have the highest percentage...hope that helps

Question: What are some of the best, high quality protein powders out there..? I'm currently taking Fighters Food and im looking for some different ones to experiment with.
Answer: Inner Armour is really good and has 50g of protein.
Question: Relatively cheap high quality whey protein without lactose and splenda added? looking to start weight training for my arms, a friend suggested that i drink whey protein right after my workout. i'd like to find a brand that is of good quality but relatively cheap, and preferably with low lactose content and no splenda added. any ideas?

Question: How much crude protein should be in a high quality cat food? I assume that a higher percentage is best, right? The highest I've seen is 10% crude protein.
Answer: I assume that you are referring to protein on the labels? Unfortunately, labesl are guaranteed max/min usually and therefore aren't too helpful when looking at as fed.
Here's a link to a chart that lists protein, carbs, fat etc. in terms of % of calories http://www.geocities.com/jmpeerson/canfood.html
Basically, if you are looking for something high in protein and low in carbohydrates, you would want less than 10% of the calories from carbs. Then you have to look at the protein source and go from there, as protein may be veggie protein (not good), by-products, meal, or actual muscle meat. Finally, you do not want fish as the sole protein source.

Question: Is there are such thing as a low quality dog food that is high protein? So far, all the high protein foods that I have seen are high quality- TOTW, Evo, Wellness CORE, etc..
Are there any low quality foods that are high protein?
Not that I need one; just curious. :)
Wow, really? I didn't know that..my dog does absolutely wonderful on Taste Of The Wild, and it had a 38% protein level, I think..
But then again all dogs are different! :)
Axel, you are feeding crap.
Answer: Probably not because the reality is that protein sources are expensive compared to other ingredients.
A much bigger issue is that many dogs can't tolerate the high protein superpremium foods and need high quality foods that are lower in protein. A lot of people are putting their dogs on these diets and ending up with dogs with diarrhea, gas, and other digestive problems even with a proper transition period and proper portions. The reason is that many dogs that are not working dogs that burn a lot of daily calories can't tolerate those protein levels. My dogs (which get a minimum 2.5 mile walk each day) have trouble with these foods. I finally settled on California Natural - made by Natura like EVO so good ingredients but with lower protein levels and the problem went away. I am not the only one. I know several people whose dogs could not tolerate these foods and I see people post here frequently running into this problem.
Question: Which vegtables can I get high quality protein from?
Answer: "Protein in vegetables tends to be lower quality:
Vegetable protein is poor quality compared to the protein in meat however its possible to increase the quality of vegetable protein by combining it with other plant foods. This is a common way vegetarians obtain high quality protein with a diet low in calories and fat. An example of combining plant proteins would be a vegetable curry with rice or naan bread. The two foods complement each other because vegetable protein lacks certain essential amino acids but these are present in the rice and bread forming a meal with a complete protein source.
If all essential amino acids are not present vegetable protein cannot be used for growth or maintenance of tissues. In this case the vegetable protein is usually burned as fuel or may be converted into fat.

Question: Dog food questions low protein high quality? I'm getting a dog soon, it's an Azawakh. They need a very low protein content in their food. 20% maybe even lower. The breeder feeds his dogs most millet porridge with a little milk, dog food, and meat added in. It may not sound healthy but trust me it's a very good diet for an azawakh.
So my question is, if I don't want to have to cook millet porridge and meat, is there a good high quality low protein dog food out there?
Jen J. I am a biology student, and you are completely wrong. Meat itself is only 18% protein and Azawakhs are very primitive and wild dogs. Protein higher than that causes severe problems, including kidney failure. Azawakhs that are fed high protein diets have a shortened life span. I have seen many many properly fed Azawakhs that live to be 16 which is uncommon for a large breed.
And they aren't supposed to look anorexic, they should be thin but not too thin. In Africa they are fed very poor quality food and their biological systems have become accustom to this and they thrive on it, anything too rich is detrimental to their health.
sorry I didn't mean 18% I meant 28%. But it does vary depending on the meat.
The breeder meets the protein and fat content that an Azawakh needs for a healthy diet. They get all the nutrition they need, he just cooks their food instead of buying it. He calls store bought food convenient not healthy. He does whatever he can to meet their "wild type" diet and nutritional needs.
Jen you are misguided. I said low protein 20-25% not no protein. That is an ideal level for Azawakhs and Sloughis both desert bred dogs that require low protein. I have heard the exact same information from the most knowledgeable Azawakh breeder in the country and the most knowledgeable breeder of Sloughi in the world. They have both had many many many many years experience in their breed and they know exactly what they need.
Answer: Here are some dog foods a 28% or a little less in protein and are still high Quality dog foods! :)
1. Eagle Pack Super Premium Crude protein (min.) 23%
2. Natural Balance Potato & Duck Dry Dog Food, Crude protein 21%,(Min.)
3. Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison, Crude protein 20%(Min)
4. Blue Buffalo Fish & Sweet Potato - Crude Protein (min.) 22.0%
5. Natural Balance Lamb Meal & Brown Rice Dog & Puppy Food< Crude Protein 21.0% (min.)
Well good luck and you can get all these dog foods at Petco!! :)
Hope this Helps!
And Congratulations on your new puppy! :)
Question: Does the quality of whey protein impact building muscles? Well.. I'd figured protein is protein whether if it's from Wal-Mart or if its from an online high quality source of protein. What is the main difference between "High Quality" Protein and Just Whey Protein from Wal-Mart?
Is there is a BIG or NOTICABLE difference, what brands would you recommend from Low Chain Stores like Wal-Mart or Big Health Stores?
Answer: The protein is the same, it's just the nutrition and taste is different.
Question: High quality low protein dog food? I have been looking around for a high quality dog food that has low protein. I'm getting a dog in a few months, it's a Sloughi, the the very reputable Sloughi breeder says that the need low protein, about 20-25% because in their natural environment they don't get much protein, and still today if they do, it causes problems. So I was hoping that someone would know of a very high quality dog food, such as Orijen and Taste of Wild, but one that has 20-25% protein. I've looked at Taste of Wild and other brands and they have 30-45% protein which is just way to high.
When I get the puppy, I will feed it whatever his breeder feeds him, but I would like to change it after a while, this is why I want to know.
Answer: Taste of the Wild "Pacific Stream" is 25% protein.
