Progesterone:
Progesterone is also a steroid. It has many effects in the body, some having nothing to do with sex and reproduction. Here we shall focus on the role of progesterone in the menstrual cycle and pregnancy
estrogen :
About every 28 days, some blood and other products of the disintegration of the inner lining of the uterus (the endometrium) are discharged from the uterus, a process called menstruation. During this time a new follicle begins to develop in one of the ovaries. After menstruation ceases, the follicle continues to develop, secreting an increasing amount of estrogen as it does so.
TSH, FSH, and LH
HCG behaves much like FSH and LH with one crucial exception: it is NOT inhibited by a rising level of progesterone. Thus HCG prevents the deterioration of the corpus luteum at the end of the fourth week and enables pregnancy to continue beyond the end of the normal menstrual cycle.

Answer: Although brain chemical imbalances that cause depression are complex, researchers believe that a few main hormones are responsible for promoting feelings of wellbeing. These hormones are norepinephrine, dopamine and serotonin. Another name for these hormones is monoamine transporters; that is they carry important messages along the neural pathway in the brain. Where an imbalance of these hormones occurs, a mood, energy or cognitive problem results. This is why these hormones are closely associated with depression.
Norepinephrine
Norepinephrine is produced by the adrenal glands and nerve cells to help us maintain energy and activity. Norepinephrine is also called noradrenalin and behaves similar to adrenalin, in that it is released in reaction to anger or emergency. As with serotonin related antidepressants, norepinephrine related medications do not increase levels of norepinephrine, but attempt to help the sympathetic nervous system to process it more efficiently.
Dopamine
Dopamine is associated with euphoria and our desire or motivation. Dopamine is also connected with the information pathway in the brain. A dopamine disorder or imbalance can cause memory and cognitive loss as well as difficulty with problem solving.
Serotonin
Serotonin may help us feel energetic, calm and assured. Most mood problems are associated with serotonin imbalances. Because the vast majority of depression sufferers may have low levels of serotonin, and because most medications seek to increase serotonin levels, serotonin is discussed here in more detail.
Low levels of serotonin not only affect mood, but the ability to cope with strong emotions. Low serotonin may also inhibit sensitivity to possible consequences, which may explain why aggression, impulsive behavior and suicide are prolific in people with low serotonin levels.

But when steroid hormones encounter the cell membrane, it's the hydrophilic "heads" of the bilayer that come into contact with them first. Since non-polar substances do not dissolve well in polar substances, how come steroid hormones are still capable of diffusing through the phospholipid bilayer?
Answer: I think you're a bit confused to what hormones are. Hormones are slow, long-lasting messages induced by the body or a drug. Steroid hormones would attach to a receptor which is complementary to the hormone's shape. When the hormone is attached to the complementary site of the receptor, the receptor gives messages to the cell which change it's environment.
But when you're talking about things DIFFUSING across a cell membrane, that implies a molecule or an ion traveling across a protein carrier or channel. That type of diffusion is called facilitated diffusion. Whether energy is needed, that would be considered to be active transport.

Answer: Abscisic acid (ABA), named for its effect on leaf abscission, reverses the effect of growth-stimulating hormones (auxin, gibberellins, cytokinin). In leaf and fruit drop ABA counters the auxin that acts to retain the them during growth and development.
ABA is involved in dormancy beyond dropping leaves it inhibits shoot growth but does not have as much affect on roots or may even promote growth of roots even in dormancy. It keeps seeds dormant until growth conditions are met.

Answer: progesterone and oestrogen are the main hormones used to reduce human fertility whereas LH and FSH are used to promote it. All of which are found naturally in the body.
There has been many links between the contraceptive pill, which contains progesterone and oestrogen, with cancer. However, without oestrogen in the body, which occurs during the menopause, osteoperosis is more likely to occur as the blood-calcium levels are increased so the bone-calcium levels are decreased.
LH and FSH cause the production and release of the follicles into the fallopian tube, so when this is increase more eggs are released making the probability of pregnancy much higher. However, this does run the risk of more then one follicle being fertilised. If many are then some will have to be removed to preserve the mothers health. This can stimulate many ethical arguments about right to life for the unborn child.

Answer: Do a google search for "auxins". Also, willow twigs produce plant "growth hormones" if placed in a jar of water. The water can then be used to stimulate other plant cuttings to grow roots.

Even if you made a 5kg cat a muscular 8kg, still longway from leopold size. Its offspring though would still be normal size as its genetic blueprint was not changed. True the growth hormones could make it sex mad but infertile.

Answer: The contraceptive pill would stabilise you, however it would do so by taking control of your hormones rather than sorting your own body functions. This may be the only alternative other than letting nature get on with it.
