Question: Is the index finger on your picking hand supposed to touch the strings of the guitar? When I'm playing guitar, I hold the pick between the index and thumb. I'll grip the pick with just a little of the pick sticking out by curling my index finger inward a little bit, but then my index finger starts to uncurl as I play and it starts to touch the strings. So my index finger is always touching the strings just before the pick touches it. Is this the way it's supposed to be? This is not such a big deal when it comes to strumming power chords and you're not too concerned with getting a clean sound, but it sucks when your trying to play single notes.
Answer: Generally if you're picking for clean tones, the index finger should not touch the next string, however, if you want certain sound effects that come with practice, it can be advantageous. Practice, practice and practice.

Question: How can i insert a nonalphabetical index as per sequence of the content? Actually I know how to add index in MS Word. But whenever I insert the index it gets arranged alphabetically, which I don't want.
Answer: i sometimes have a similar problem, so i use visual guided or indexs of my own creation to best suite what i need.
create your own grading system using anything, such aa number of dots or stars, different line lenghts etc.
I have take this to some extremes. I am a Visual-Spatial Learner and i do not like things sorted our in alphabetical order all of the time. Have a look at the layout of my most recwent web page. (the links are not relevent, but the lay out is.

Question: What is an Index valve on a sprinkler system and how do you repair it? My sprinkler system won't switch zones. My neighbor told me that it was probably my index valve. This is suppose to be an automatic valve that uses back pressure to switch from zone to zone automatically. I have a well pump that provides water to the system and was wondering if the valve would be close to the pump? How easy is it to repair or replace this type of valve?

Question: What is the index of refraction of the liquid? The critical angle for a certain liquid-air surface is 42.8 degrees. What is the index of refraction of the liquid?
How would I figure this out?
Answer: N1 = N2/sin(Θc) = 1.4718 (N2 is I.R. of air = 1)
Question: What is the difference between option on stock index and option on a stock index future? I understand what an option is. But what is the difference between option on the stock index and option on the stock index futures?
Answer: The difference is that an option on a stock index has the cash index as the underlying instrument. So, for the S&P 500 (SPX) options listed on the CBOE, the underlying instrument is the actual S&P 500 index, the one that gets quoted a lot on TV and in newspapers. These options are cash-settled.
On the other hand, an option on a stock index future has the actual index futures contract as the underlying. So, for the options on the S&P 500 index futures (e.g. e-mini, ticker ES) that are listed on the CME, the underlying instrument is the e-mini futures contract. These options are either settled into cash (quaterly options) or into the nearst futures contract (serial options). For example, September options have the September futures contract as the underlying and will settle into cash as the options expire at the same time as the underyling futures contract. August options, have the same September futures contract as the underlying, but since August options expire 1 month earlier, they will settle into the September futures contract.
This doesn't seem like a big deal, until you have a calendar spread on, where the two options may have different underlying contracts and thus you have additional basis risk. This risk doesn't exist in cash index options, as all maturities have the same underlying.
There are also differences in the way cash index options and futures options are margined. Cash index options fall under Reg. T., while futures options are under SPAN margining.
Another difference, this applies if you pay tax in the US, is that futures options like futures have favourable tax treatment (40/60).
Question: What is "cost index" when used for aircraft flight planning purposes? To our aircraft pilots: What is "cost index" when used for flight planning purposes? Can you provide an example?
Answer: Cost Indexing is the practice of evaluating the effect of one cost factor in the hopes of minimizing the sum of those factors.
Many jet aircraft are equipped with various performance computers for the purpose of determining the best speed at which to travel (ie the economy speed) in order to minimize the total operating cost of the flight. To do this the FMC needs information about time-related costs and fuel cost. Fuel costs are based on the price and amount of fuel needed to complete the flight (legally, with reserves etc). Rather than enter all of these individual factors into the onoard FMC, most airlines use a ratio of the two costs to determine the economy speed for a given flight on a given day. This ratio is called the Cost Index, and it determines the economy speed for a flight by minimizing the total cost of operation.
Cost Index = Cost of Time / Cost of Fuel
Question: How to prevent people from seeing the index of a website folder? On my website, if a person types in a folder address a page is automatically displayed by Apache showing the index of that folder, with all folders and files inside. How can I prevent this from happening? I need to have folders that people can only access by direct linking, not by browsing through a series of indexes.
Answer: Go to your Hosting cPanel
Find "Index Manger"
Click on "public_html" in the list (click text, not icon)
On the next page, select "No Indexing" & save !
Question: How does a radical index work in a Chinese dictionary and how can i identify a characters radical? I am learning chinese and have just got a chinese dictonary from Collins
I have read the explanition on how to use the radical index several times and I still dont understand it. How do i use it correctly and also how do you work out the radical of each character they all look like they have several of them? Which I assume is not right they must only have one radical surely.
Answer: Let's explain with an example using the character 秋 (qiu1) which means autumn. If you look in the dictionary, 禾 (5 strokes) and 火(4 strokes) are radicals on their own. So how do you decide which is the correct radical?
When a character is made up of parts sitting SIDE BY SIDE, you look at the LEFT radical FIRST, if you cannot find it in the dictionary, then look at the RIGHT radical.
Now we look at another example with 露 (lu4) which means dew or exposed. This character has two radicals which can either be 雨 (8 strokes) or 足 (7 strokes). When a character is made up of a top part and a bottom part as in 雨 and 路, look at the TOP radical FIRST.
As in 象 (xiang4) which means elephant (made up of a top and bottom), you cannot find a radical that corresponds to the top part, which leaves you to look at the bottom 豕 (7 strokes).
There are characters which can be looked up via either radicals, eg 盘 (pan2) which means plate, has two radicals 舟(6 strokes) and 皿(5 strokes). Look up either one first and it will lead you to the character. But such characters are not many.
I hope this helps you to understand it better. The key to being skilled at this is to familiarize yourself with the radicals by LOOKING at it often. The more you are acquainted with them, you can identify the radicals easily with any new characters.
For practice, you can pick any character from the dictionary. Eg: 捕 (bu3) = capture. Then determine what is the radical. Then go to the front pages of the dictionary and try to look up the radical and its 'parts' and see if you can find the character.
The language is more difficult than other foreign languages because of the complexity of the characters and the HanyuPinyin. But these can be learned just by reading the dictionary regularly.
Question: What is the heat index in basic training to just sit around for the day? I heard that in basic training that you can sit around and do nothing if it is too hot. What is the heat index or temperature for Ft. Jackson, South Carolina if anyone knows for the months of June to September.
Un-bloused meaning not tucked in? That would suck not being able to tighten the jacket wrist sections.
Answer: I went to Ft. Jackson during the summer. It sucked bad. We would always have to have our pants unbloused and are sleeves loose.
http://www.hooah4health.com/deployment/heat/default.htm there is a chart near the bottom of the page that will show you work/rest cycles.
Get ready to drink plenty of water. Your canteen will be your new best friend.
If you think it is hot there wait till you are in Iraq.
Question: How can I streamline updating of html index pages? Here's my task each month (all of it done in html):
First, create 4-5 new article pages. Then update a series of index pages which have intros to these articles (and all past articles). Each index page is a list of article intros, with links (and sometimes pictures) to the articles, in alphabetical order. One index, for example, is by article Category. Another index is based on article Titles.
Is there any method to help streamline this task, instead of manually adding into each index page? Or any sort of software or script to automatically index pages?
Answer: you can use server side scripting language like php to automate such task.
Question: what index lenses should I use for my high prescription? I want the best possible vision, I don't care about looks. Could I use a 1.51 index lens with a prescription of -7.0 in both eyes?
Are higher indexes only better for cosmetic purposes?
Answer: No, a thinner lens isn't just cosmetic. It is also better vision.
Reducing the edge thickness will give you much less distortion as you move away from the center of the lens.
Chromatic abberations are also reduced greatly on the edges of a thinner lens. Lightness is another big advantage of a higher index.
An Rx of - 7.00 should be at least 1.60...and lot better with 1.67 .
Of course, the choice of frame is very important to reduce thickness also.
Question: What factors affect the refractive index of liquids? I know that one is temperature, what's another factor?
Also, can the value of refractive index alone be used to determine the identity of an unknown liquid?
Answer: If temperature is one, then pressure must be another. I also think absorption is a third, as when wavelength gets shorter and frequency is higher - liquids tend to increase in refractive index.
Question: What would be the best high index glasses for a very high prescription for farsightedness? I would like to decrease the "coke bottle" effect as much as I can. Also, how much more does high index cost?
And how much of a difference does high index make cosmetically and visually?
Answer: If you can get high index, go for it. In my case, it reduces the thickness of the lenses in my glasses so it looks like I'm wearing regular glasses, not strong ones. I like that. They are lighter and not as prone to sliding down my nose as regular lenses would be for me.
Question: How do you reduce suffocating your index fingers while flossing your teeth? I already know about the basic methods of wrapping the ends around your index fingers and scraping the teeth up/down instead of saw-like motion. Every time I taut the floss to get some good scraping though, it'll squeeze to the point where I can barely feel my fingertips for a minute. What could I be doing wrong exactly?
Answer: they make really good floss picks now. they are awesome and make me want to floss more. no gross string, no suffocation. they sell them in every store in the dental dept.
Question: What happens if you use High index lenses on a low prescription? I will get a new pair of progressives. My nearsightendess prescription is -2.75 and reading is +4ish. The side of the lens is really thin but the top and bottom are a tiny bit thick. If I get high index 1.67 what would happen to the sides since it doesn't seem that they can get thinner by a lot, and what would happen to the bottom and top since that definitly does have room for improvement? Is it possible to only make the top and bottom thinner and leave the thinness on the sides how it is?
Answer: First, a 1.67 is way too high for a prescription like that. A 1.67 is not recommended under -6.00
The optics wouldn't be good with an index that high in your prescription.
A 1.6 would be as high as you should go..there would be no difference in the thickness in that power anyway between the 1.6 and the 1.67
Something is wrong with your numbers too...a -2.75 would produce the thickness on the outer edges, not at top and bottom. You must have a fairly high astigmatism correction in there also for it to make the top and bottom thick.
Anyway...a 1.6 or any high index lens will make it thinner all over because the center starts out thinner...usually 1.0 mm at center.
The difference between the regular plastic lens and a 1.6 is close to 40% thinner...so the top and bottom will be thinner, yes, but the outer edges will be alright still.
But as I said, there has to be something about your prescription that you haven't included...you say the reading is + 4ish...that only confuses it more....lol
I have a feeling that 4.00 you saw somewhere is a correction for astigmatism, that would explain the thickness on top and bottom.
So, without seeing your actual prescription, and going just by the - 2.75 you say it is...then forget about 1.67...that's no good for you....1.6 would be perfect.
