Junk Food
Question: Junk Food? How much junk food is too much? Like how much is ok to have?
Answer: Mosquitonation does have a point.
My grandfather is 92, he always ate healthily and walked everyday, but recently his mind's deteriorated and he has to live in a convalescent hospital. He doesn't go to the bathroom, just does it where he's laying. <<-- NOT FUN!
I'd rather enjoy life and live till I'm 70 or so. So I wouldn't stop eating junk foods. I'd say you shouldn't have more than a can of soda and a big bag of chips a day on average.
Question: junk food? Are chili dogs and corn dogs junk food?
Answer: Borderline junk food (toeing the line)... deep fried, hot dogs are processed and usually high in salt and perservatives and minimal nutritional benefit.
However, Chili dogs and corn dogs do provide protein and the beans (assuming chili with beans) also provide a nutritional benefit.
Question: Junk food? If i was to eat quite healthy but eat some junk food aday would it matter for my health and body? Muscle wise as i workout.
Cheers :).
Answer: nah, as long as you exercise you should be okay. I eat junk all the time but run atleast 3 times a week and do exercise every day for about 30 min. I will typically eat icecream every day or some sort of snack. I have eaten a half of a cheesecake and not gained!! but i always try to portion myself. i'm 5'6 adn weigh 112. So there ya go, you should be okay :) everyone is different though and different foods affect you in different ways.
Question: How much junk food do you eat? How much junk food do you eat every day? What kind of illusions do you think that nutrition facts on package labels give? How much attention do you pay to serving size amounts on packages, and how much of these amounts do you think are actually realistic servings? What, in your opinion, is "junk" food, and what is not? What is healthy, or what healthy foods do you think could replace common junk. Is there too much junk food available, or more so unhealthy and "good-for-you" foods? Does this generation eat better or worse than the one before it, and the one before them, etc? I would love to hear opinions on these and other related subtopics!
Answer: Hello:
I have found over the years that if people deprive themselves of certain foods including,"junk foods,"they will overeat when they are allowed to have junk foods as a treat. I have taught my little girl ever since she was a toddler that she can still have her favorite candy bar, cookie, piece of cake, etc as long as it is done in moderation!
I am the first to admit that I am human and I CANNOT pass up a slice of chocolate cake,or a small bag of cheetos because IT IS OKAY to eat these things,as long as you understand what a,"Portion,"is of these foods, and that you go back to eating healthy if you do decide to indulge in a piece of cake,or your favorite fudge at the holidays,etc...
The key to eating healthy is that if you can't pronounce the ingredients, chances are, that particular food is full of artifical dyes, chemicals, preservatives, etc that aren't good for your health. I think that in today's society, parents have to work more than one job to even make ends meet and therefore, what do they buy to eat? They buy the pre-packaged foods that come in boxes that are quick and easy to heat up in the microwave oven, because they just don't have the time to make a meal from scratch, and this is the reality in today's society.
When I was growing up,we ate dinner up to the kitchen table AS A FAMILY,and we talked about what was happening at school,work,etc.. My husband, daughter and I carry on that tradition and we eat up to the kitchen table every night too! I want my daughter to know and to realize how important that family unit is,and how much we love her and care about her! ;-)
One last thing I wanted to add is when I was growing up,we played out in the streets or with other neighbor kids, because we didn't have to worry about some stranger trying to abduct us. We literally were outside right after breakfast time, came back for lunch, and then was out until dinner time. We could also play outside when it got dark because we lived in a very safe neighborhood where everybody knew everybody else.
When I was young,we actually RAN,and JUMPED,and played HOPSCOTCH,and that was why you hardly ever saw kids that were heavy set. We didn't have video games,or computers,so we used what is known as our,"Imagination,"to come up with games of our own,or to play house,or to pretend that we could fly as high as the moon on our swing sets. We had Physical Education EVERY DAY in school, not just once a week, and we didn't have as many junk foods or pre-packaged foods,as the kids have now.
Question: What is considered as junk food? I am planning to stop eating some junk food for a while. I get confused what's junk food. I know hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, sodas, candies, foods at fast food restaurants, and french fries are junk food. There are plenty more. Can you list foods that you know are considered as junk food? please and thank you for the help.
Answer: any processed fast foods basically want to cut the junk think fresh foods that you cook or eat as is like fruit vegetables fresh meat cook on the grill or broiled boiled not deep fried! Whole grains non white flour ! oh there are so many things to advoid! but wonderful things to replace them with try looking up South beach diet! That will help
Question: Can we tell the difference between junk food and fast food? I am a Unitarian, and the food of my religion appear to be junk foods because the spiritual qualities are also religious. Even if they are nutritious, is it a good idea to ration them, or eat them in small quantities, because of their halluciogenic properties? I know that junk foods are unhealthy, and I do not eat such foods, but a Big Mac can be mistaken for a garage burger of sorts. Please help me draw the line such as, "One makes you fat, the other makes you high. One has cholesterol, the other has LSD" and so on. Given the obesity epidemic, I do not wish for an underground movement to replace all fast food chains if fast food was outlawed, especially to ensure the health of our fellow citizens. Please help, for I am also a professional chef, and I pray to Gaia for someone with a heart to answer with the best of his abiilities. May we be blessed with the bounties of Gaia as long as we live.
Answer: yes
Question: How come junk food apparently makes you tired and sluggish but people who eat lots of it are so energetic? I mean, think about kids, they're always eating sweet things, and they're always on the go. Teenage boys eat lots of junk food, and I see them at school and they're constantly kicking a football around. When I think about it, the people who eat the least junk food is probably women, and they're the ones who are the most sedentary, in my opinion.
Old people also don't seem to eat much junk food, but I suppose they'd be pretty tired a lot regardless.
Answer: Kids are always eating too much BAD carbs( candy and chips are a primary source) they have that energy until they burn out and refill during the next meal.
Question: What food options are there to alleviate cravings for junk food? I am in my mid 20s and am quite active in sport. I eat 3 main meals a day however i feel the need to snack on junk food everyday. Can anyone pls make suggestions to alternatives or ways i can alleviate the need for junk food.
Answer: eat some fruits or vegetables
Question: How to control the cravings of junk food before and during my period each month? Every month I get these really bad cravings for junk food a week before and during my period. I have tried fighting this but I give in and start eating lots of junk food. How can I try to control this? Please tell me there is a way of controlling this because after eating I feel so bad. By the way I am 24. I know this probably sounds lame and I should have more self control but it's really hard :(
Answer: It's ok I get that feeling too. Generally I eat pretty low-carb but when that time of the month comes instead of stuffing myself with sweets I eat big bowls or rice or oatmeal with peanut butter. I don't like to eat really heavy stuff around then so it makes me feel better. I also feel like its better to just eat a huge bowl of rice then to eat crappy processed food even if it is less than I'm eating with the rice.
I also like a big bowl of oatmeal with honey, peanut butter, and cinnamon for my sweet tooth. Ooh and add a glob of goat milk yogurt and your set! Or trying making some sugar free deserts.
Question: What can i do to substitute heathier alternatives to my junk food diet? I am a junk food junkie. but because i'm doing tennis, i'd like to eat healthier foods to improve my game. Any suggestions to substitute healthier alternatives to junk food but will allow me to still have the satisfaction as if i were eating junk food?
Answer: Yes, you will like this site: http://www.yummydietfood.com. It is different than hungry-girl in that the suggestions are healthy (no hydrogenated oils, no artificial sweeteners, no high fructose corn syrup, and no sugar alcohols). You'll find that there are tons of great alternatives to junk food available at your local health food stores, trader joe's and whole foods. Best of luck.
Question: What states have banned junk food in schools? My mom is a high school teacher in California and she told me that her school district has banned junk food from the vending machines. I think it's a California law if i'm correct. Are there other states that have banned junk food in schools?
Answer: I know that New York has banned junk food.
Question: Personally or scientifically, what does junk food do to a person who eats it? If you have a valid answer as to what junk food does to a person, I need it! Junk food gives a quick energy rush, but also a big crash. Comparing this with healthier foods, can you tell me what eating habits do to a person?
Answer: it depends on what the junk is...
high sodium hardens blood vessels and contributes to heart disease
high sugar is just empty calories and will make you overweight if you eat too much, and by eating too much sugar, you may not get enough of the nutrients you do need in other foods
fat in small amounts is necessary, but saturated fats build up plaques in your arteries and put you at risk of heart attacks and heart disease, also, like with sugar, if you fill up on fatty food, you may not be getting enough of the right foods.
you don't need it, think about what that rush is doing to your body, it is making your pancreas work extra hard, and then you crash because your body is tired from processing all the sugar. it had to do alot of work to break it all down and store the excess (as fat) that's why you get tired after a big load of sugar.
look up hydrogenated fats and the health risks associated with them
all the bad foods generally are harder on your liver and kidneys, and can lead to problems with them.
healthier foods have more fiber, which keeps your intestines healthy, and they help stabilize your blood sugar, and keep you full longer so you don't eat lots of crap.
alot of the healthy foods that do contain sugar usually have a lower glycemic index, which will not cause you to "crash" after eating them
look up info on glycemic index
sorry I keep adding on... also, by eating junk foods and not getting proper nutrition, your skin may not look it's best, especially if you're not drinking enough water.
Question: Why would anyone drink cola & eat junk food so they can look like a horse? Why not eat good food and look beau- tiful? Add all the doctors' bills that you have to pay after a few years of eating junk food, and which is more expensive, good food or junk food?
Answer: becaues its addicting and good =] i try to eat healthy tho , and i usually do . but i will admit im very addicted to my junk food
Question: How can i resist junk food when it is lying all around the house? I am trying to eat healthy to lose weight but all my family members (4 of them) love junk food and eat it all around the house, so i get really tempted and end up stuffing myself, too, coz it looks so good!! Talking to them about eating only in the kitchen or reducing amount of junk in our house didnt work. Any ideas on how to resist junk when its lying right under ur nose?
Answer: When they are pigging out-go for a walk, exercise, or do something good for yourself-QUICK..then you'll feel really great that you didn't give in. Eventually, you'll just ignore them and do your own thing. Put a picture of yourself on the fridge or "junk cupboard"if you feel you need to loose weight. Take a good look and remember what you are trying to accomplish-FOR YOU-and stick to it. You are strong and you deserve to feel great about yourself..Good Luck..
Question: Where can I learn more about healthy junk food? Junk food is great. Anyone who denies that is doubting themselves. But it's not necessarily healthy. I really want to find healthy junk food, healthy cookies, chips, pizza, fries, etc. Can anyone reccomend some healthy junk food or submit a link that can help me out?
Answer: This is the best site for making decisions about Fast Food:

Number 1

Alternative: A plain hamburger has only 240 calories and 8 grams of fat.
Question: How can I stop eating junk food and start liking fruits and vegetables? I haven't really ever liked fruits and vegetables besides the occasional banana. And I've always had this craving for junk food such as Slim Jim and Chocolate. I'm not overweight at all, but I'm afraid I'm building up plaque in my arteries.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Answer: The best way is just to start eating fruit - a lot of it. Pick something you like and start with that - eat as much as you desire..and have as much fruti as you want before every meal. On top of this have some green smoothies - which is greens blended with fruits. Have a green smoothie daily. The importance of greens and fruits is that they contain all the nutrients the body needs so will help you immensely with junk food cravings. Blending them into the fruits will make them much nicer (in fact you dont actually really taste the greens just the sweet fruit).
Exercising will also help because I dont know about you, after exercising I really could not stomach anything junky.
Once you start eating more and more fruit and you go without..you will really miss it...it probides nutrients your body needs.
