Lines
Question: What do yellow and red lines on the side of the British roads mean? I'm Swiss and I've been to London several times, but I don't know exactly what they mean. I think yellow lines mean "no parking" and red lines mean "no stopping", but there are single and double lignes, what is the difference?
Can anybody explain me exactly what means...
- a double yellow line?
- a single yellow line?
- a double red line?
- a single red line?
Thank you.
Answer: Yellow lines
Yellow lines are provided where there is a need to restrict parking to help alleviate traffic flow and to prevent obstructions on the highway.
There are only two types used:
Double Yellow:-
Double lines usually to mark lengths of road where there is no waiting at any time. However there are exceptions to this and supplementary plates fixed to lighting columns or posts will tell you what the actual restriction is.
Single Yellow:-
Single lines usually indicate a shorter period of restriction such as daytime. Again supplementary plates will show the actual times.
Red Lines
Red lines are used on some roads instead of yellow lines. In London the double and single red lines used on Red Routes indicate that stopping to park, load/unload or to board and alight from a vehicle (except for a licensed taxi or if you hold a Blue Badge) is prohibited. The red lines apply to the carriageway, pavement and verge. The times that the red line prohibitions apply are shown on nearby signs, but the DOUBLE RED line ALWAYS means no stopping at any time. On Red Routes you may stop to park, load/unload in specially marked boxes and adjacent signs specify the times and purposes and duration allowed. A box MARKED IN RED indicates that it may only be available for the purpose specified for part of the day (eg between busy peak periods). A box MARKED IN WHITE means that it is available throughout the day.
Red and Single yellow lines can only give a guide to the restrictions and controls in force and signs, nearby or at zone entry must be consulted.
Question: what's the difference between construction lines and hidden lines? i'm doing an interior design assignment, the instructions ask me to erase the hidden lines, but not the construction lines. Can anyone tell me what's the difference between these two lines? Hidden lines is it refer to the lines behind the furnitures?
Ok i got it. Thanks Jay!
Answer: Yes it does refer to the the lines behind the furniture. Those being the hidden lines.
Question: How to wire two lines for a phone system? I have two phone lines w/ a multi line phone. How do I wire the outside box so that when someone calls line 1 and it is busy it automatically rolls over to line 2?
When they initially set up my lines they asked me if I wanted to roll one over to the other and I stated yes. At that point I did not have a 2 line phone. So it has been a couple months later and now I do. It could be that they never added the service, or it could be that I am not wiring it correctly. There are 2 lines each w/ 4 terminals rd, grn, blk, yellow. I am using cat five and I know which colors go with what.....my question is---do I hook all four wires up to one of the lines. Or two up to each line (and if so, each on rd, grn-- or would one set go on blk, yellow).
Answer: Hi, I'm a phone repairman. You have a couple options for rolling one number. You can subscribe to "Busy call forward" or you can subscribe to "Hunting". It would just be a matter of pricing, I think a hunt group costs you about $0.75 a month and busy call forward might be more. Call your phone company for pricing and details.
Wiring up a jack for a two line phone with CAT5:
At the jack, you will need the Blue/White and the Orange/White twisted pairs. Connect the blue to the red terminal, the white with blue tracer to the green terminal. Connect the orange to the yellow terminal, the white with orange tracer to the black terminal. The Green/White and Brown/White pairs are spare and not used. Do not cut them off though, just could them up and tuck them inside the jack.
Inside the Network Interface(NID), you will find modules for each line and they should be labeled with the numbers. Identify which number is the one you want as line one on your two line phone and open that module. Terminate the blue to the green lug and the white with blue tracer to the red lug(not all NID's use lugs, some are tooless, but lugs are the most common). Next identify which module is your line 2 and open that. Terminate the orange to the green lug and the white with orange tracer to the red lug. As with the jack, coil the other two unused pairs(brn/wht and bwn/wht) up and tuck inside the NID before closing it.
There is one other important detail. Examine the phone cord you will be using from the jack your set. Not all cords support two lines. If you look at the head of the cord you will see shiny gold contacts. If there are 2 contacts, it is a 1 line cord only. If there are 4 contacts, it is a 2 line cord and you are good to go(there is also a 6 contact cord for 3 lines which would also work). Make sure to plug the cord into the L1/L2 port on the phone and not the L2/Data port.
Question: I have two phone lines in my house. How do I switch the jacks from one line to another myself? I just moved into a new house that has 10 phone jacks. When the phone service was turned on, the only activated jack was in the kitchen - not a convenient location. Apparently, since there were two lines previously in my place, SBC activated the one that was most recently shut off. I called SBC and they said that I could either pay them to come out and fix it by switching the active line over to the other jacks, or I could find the junction box and switch the lines myself. Any idea how to do this?
Answer: There should be a box outside of your house specifically for the phone lines. All you have to do is be sure the main line that you use is the only one plugged into the box.
Question: Why do some power lines use 3 wires and others only 2? I live in rural Montana, and the power poles only have 2 feed lines. I have noticed 3 in other areas closer to the big cities. Perhaps the 3rd line is ground return to the utility company. Maybe the 2 line type is simply "grounded" to earth in rural areas instead of having a return line, but I am not sure.
Answer: The two-line feeders are single phase and can commonly be found in residential or rural areas since most everyone needs 120/240 Volts. This can be gotten from a single transformer secondary winding, "Single-Phase." There is usually 1 hot and one grounded return on the top. 2400 Volts is a common final distribution voltage.
The 3-phase system is used in commercial or industrial areas where motor loads are more common for big HVAC systems or industrial processes. These commonly have 3 wires on one crossbar (Depending on the voltage) and a grounded return up on top. Common voltages for three phase distribution include 2400/4160V, and 7600/13,200V, even 13,200/39kV on the larger poles in heavy industrial neighborhoods. The first number is the voltage from phase to ground, the second number is the voltage between any two of the 3 phases.
Three phase systems will have three transformers up on the pole each time the distribution voltage is stepped down to utilization voltage, either 120/208V or 277/480V. Three phase differs from single phase in that the 3 phases are 120 degrees apart from one another, which makes it easy to generate a rotating magnetic field and run an electric motor. Search on "Three phase motors." for more info.
Question: What kinds of power lines are considered dangerous? We are considering buying a house with power lines in the back yard. Well, I think they are power lines. They're not the really big metal towers that are up really high. They're on single poles and have about two or three lines on them. Would you consider these the "dangerous" kind?
Answer: All power lines are dangerous but, if I'm understand your question correctly, your concerned with the EMF Radiation from Hi-Voltage type power lines. based on your description I don't believe these to be those hi voltage grid type power lines instead it sounds like typical power distribution lines. Not sure where this is but, just about everywhere you have power lines now, most newly built neighborhoods have underground services which eliminate overhead lines. But to answer your question as long as the line stays up on the pole your OK. We normally get more radiation from TVs
Question: What techniques do you use to memorize your lines ? I am working on theatrical production right now as stage manager and I also have a very minor role on stage.
Our director gave a deadline to be off book about 1 week and half ago, and there are still two actors who are nowhere NEAR being off book. They are still allowed to call for line, but one actor is calling for almost EVERY line, and the ones he tries on his own are so grossly paraphrased that the other actors have to adjust THEIR lines to co-incide with the paraphrase. The deadline is coming to stop beinag able to call for line.
Our run throughs of a single act are taking up 3 hours because of the "calling for line". I feel like I am actually reading their part s for them.
I have already suggested that they tape the play and listen, and just practice, practice, practice and study. They've had plenty of time to get off book. I'm hearing alot of excuses.
Any other techniques I could suggest to them ?
Answer: 1. Write down the lines. Over and over again. Try writing them down from memory and then check and if possible highlight the areas of your script that you screw up on in a different color.
2. Tape record the cues, play the tape and then say the lines.
3. Practice lines while going through all of the actions. This will help add kinesthetic memory to the verbal memory and the movement will be an additional reminder.
4. Come up with a reward system for getting off book by sections.
5. Try running lines with someone and whenever you mess up you have to start from the beginning and go through it all again. It's tedious but it works.
Question: How many lines are required for a large reservations department for a company? For companies with large telephone support departments such as airline reservation departments, how many telephone lines are needed per person??
What I don't understand is how can so many people call the same number and be on hold still occupying that line?? How is it never busy?
Answer: it depends on the amount of calls that the company expects to be active at the same time... smaller companies can have as few as 2 or 3 lines, while other larger companies can have over 100 lines...
the reason that the line is never busy is because these businesses have a feature called call hunting, which forwards the call to the next number in the sequence when that line is busy...
for example you call into line 1 and that line is busy, the call will then hunt to line 2, if that line is busy it will hunt to line 3 until it finds a line that is not busy...
there are 2 kind of hunt groups, circular, which when it reaches the last number in the hunt group, it will start back from line 1, and linear, where the hunting stops at the last number and either rings busy, or goes to voice mail....
Question: What pound lines should I use for fishing crappies & white bass? I've been an avid fisher, but I've never known what lines are exactly the best lines to use for each. And what type of baits would I be guaranteed more bites?
Thanks in advance.
Answer: For crappie and white bass, i would use between 4-6 lb. mono. Trilene is the best casting mono I have found so far. Works great for the white bass, crappie, bluegill, etc.
For the bait, try wax worms or live minnows.
Happy fishing.
Question: How to reduce or remove the lines that link from the nose to the mouth? How to reduce or remove the lines that link from the nose to the mouth? Sometimes when you smile the lines that link from the nose to the mouth will appear, but the problem that i face now is that the lines are still that even if I'm not smiling or doing some facial expression. This cause some of my friends to think that I looking unhappy or just looking down at things. How do u minimise the lines or remove them? Is it because of the amount of fats on the face or something esle? I would really appraciate it if the method does not require much money. Thanks in advance.
Answer: You can try some facial exercise. Even I used to have these lines and im only 17 and theyre really out of place, so I tried facial exercises and it has visibly reduced.
Besides that, you must drink a lot of water, eat lots of vitamin C, like grapes, lime, strawberry, grapefruit, and sqeeze lemon juice into your vegetables.
Moisturize your skin to reduce wrinkles too. Massage the moisturizer in well, using circular motions with your fingertips.
Try these exercises.

Question: What is the general equation of the relationship between transversal lines intersecting horizontal lines? When parallel lines are intersected with a transversal line, a parallelogram is created. When multiple transversal lines intersect parallel horizontal lines, what is the equation that represents the number of parallelograms versus the number of transversal line?
Answer: Ib math hu? ok this took me FOREVER to understand, and i still dont understand it, but the general equation is (n(n-1)/2) (m(m-1)/2) n being the number of transversal lines and the m being the number of horizontals. you can go ahead and simplify the equation to
((n(n-1))(m(m-1)))/2
you can see this with the pattern on the table you make with all the data you collected.
Question: How to memorize lines and get rid of stage fright? Okay, I have less than a week to memorize my lines for a play/skit in front of the whole school. What are some fast and effective ways to memorize my lines?
Also, the play/skit is comedic, so I have to try to speak with a foreign Asian accent. Any ideas on how to do that?
Lastly, how could I get over stage fright?
Answer: First and foremost, stage fright is all psychological. Get the confidence you have down deep and bring it out You know you can do it and thats that. Just do it as Nike would say.
As for the Asian accent either listen to a tape of an asian speaking or listen to an actual asian person to learn their vowels and pronunciations.
For the lines, you must repeat them out loud over and over and over again. Have someone read the cue lines to you so you can memorize the sequence, but it is all about repitition.
Question: How do the dark lines of an atom's absorption spectrum relate to the bright lines of its emission spectrum? AThe bright lines are at the same energies as the dark lines.
BThe dark lines are at higher energies than the bright lines.
CThe bright lines are at higher energies than the dark lines.
DYou cannot relate the two types of spectra.
Answer: I do not like that they used the word "energies" in any of those statements. It doesn't make any sense what is meant by the word energy, because "dark lines" don't have any energy, since dark is the absence of light energy.
The truth is that absorption spectra are the NEGATIVE image of the emission spectra, in a photographer's usage of the term "negative".
At frequencies which have light in the emission spectrum, there is no light in the absorption spectrum.
At frequencies which do not have light in the emission spectrum, there is light in the absorption spectrum.
Question: what do slashed lines parallel to a wall mean in a house floorplan? This is one of those architectual floorplans. What do slashed (or dotted) lines mean when they extend across and are parallel to the wall? They don't all occur of exterier walls either. Does it mean it's vaulted?
Also what does it mean when there is a straight unbroken line paraller to the wall? It extends from the fireplace to the wall and also over the washed and dryer area.
This is a one floored house if that helps.
Thanks!
Answer: Hard to say. Architectural floorplan? Across and Parallel in the same sentence, doesn't make sence.
Question: What caused long lines at department stores before the computerized cash registers existed? I had to stand in line for almost 15 minutes waiting for my turn and then when she rang up my sales, the computer crashed and I had to wait another 10 to 15 minutes. I was trying to figure out what caused long lines in the "olden" days of the 60s. Aside from not enough sales people to wait on you.
Answer: I was a cashier and could punch in prices faster than most cashiers now can scan those same prices. Then I figured the tax in my head and pushed the total button and counted back change. The only hold ups were missing price tags, customers without enough money, and slow customers. Today you have all the same problems, but you also have to wait for the long, long, long, receipt to print out. Computerized registers don't speed up lines; they just make inventory control easier.
Question: How to count duplicate the lines of a file by using Linux Shell Programming? Hi,
I'm new to linux and to shell programming. I have an assignment to create a shell script that shows all the folders, sub folders and files of the current directory. LS does this. But I must count how many duplicate lines each file has, and show the line that is repeated the most times in each file.
I really have no idea where to start. How can I read/compare lines within a file?
Thanks in advance!
Answer: grep . anyFile | sort | uniq | wc
grep . anyFile | sort | wc
If a line is repeated, the output of the top grep code will be less than the bottom one.
Question: Lines? !!!!!!!? Tangent line is a line that cuts the circle at one point, secant line is the line that cuts the circle at two points, what is the name of the line that does not cut the circle at all?
