Low Glycemic Foods
Question: What is the difference between the high and low glycemic foods?
Answer: High glycemic foods (starches) tend to cause the blood sugar to spike and rapidly fall. They can subsequently leave you feeling hungry after a while.
Low glycemic foods are foods with carbohydrates that do not cause a significant rise in blood sugar, and that takes longer to metabolize, leaving you feeling satisfied for longer.
To lose weight and for maximum comfort, stick to low glycemic foods. The South Beach Diet is partially based on them

Question: what are high and low glycemic foods? Is high glycemic like candy, chips and basically just junk food? Is high glycemic the bad kind of carbs? Also, why is it bad?
Answer: the glycemic index refers to the speed at which your body can digest and absorb carbohydrates. For example, oats have a very low GI score, whereas fruit juice or candy will have a high score. Foods with low GI scores are preferred because they provide a steady supply of glucose for your body. Simple sugars often spike your insulin and lead to many problems such as type 2 diabetes

I would like to add a few low glycemic foods to my diet in the mornings but I'm wondering if that will significantly slow my weight loss from the low carb or not effect it too much. I know some people think low carb is a horrible diet but I have always been really successful doing low carb after having my children and I eat healthy carbs like lean meats and lots of fish and lots of green leafy veggies so i don't want to hear any bad talk about the low carb..just an answer to my question would be awesome...lol. Question: Im on a low GI (Glycemic Index) foods diet, since these foods being low in GI does this mean i can eat all? Can i eat as much as i want of this low GI foods without having to worry about gaining weight?
Answer: No you shouldn't eat unlimited low GI foods unless they are 0% salad/vegetables. You should take into account Glycemic Load (GL) when looking at what to eat, this is how high or low the GI is in one serving of that food. GL reflects the quantity and quality of the carbohydrate. Have a look at :

Question: Low-glycemic diet? Foods that are low glycemic? Help? I know meat is but what about some fruits? I heard that some fruits are high in GI and GL but some are also low. What fruits particularly are low glycemic? Also i can't have any bread because of the high GI, but just out of curiousty are there any breads that are low GI that i can consume?
Answer: A web search for "glycemic index tables" will give you various lists with GI values for different carbohydrate foods including various fruits and various breads.
Nuts, beans, peas and lentils have a very low GI index.
Question: are gluten free foods low glycemic? I'm wondering because they don't use wheat and white flour and what not.
Answer: No, other grains can also have a high GI. I'm still studying what this is and learning which food is low, so I can't say which one would be best. But you shouldn't worry that much. There is a spike in blood sugar, but if you eat less, there will be a smaller spike. Well that's what I read about this.

Question: You are diabetic you have lost weight fast on low glycemic food How can you gain some?
Answer: I did just that. Lost about 44 pounds in 2 months.
To slow or reverse my weight loss, I not only count carbs, I count calories.
If you want to gain some back, just eat 2 cups of walnuts, pecans, peanuts, any kind of nuts in addition to your normal foods you eat.
1 cup of nuts gives you about 750-800 calories. This is about 1/3 to 1/2 of your daily caloric needs for most people. So, if you are eating 1600 calories a day, and need 1600 calories to maintain your current weight, but add the extra 750-800 calories per day, you can gain up to 2 pounds a week. Double the nuts, and you can double the weight gain.
The only other ways is to be a couch potato or eat lard.
Question: What are good foods low on the Glycemic Index? I heard this can make a big difference in health.?
Answer: Fruits, veggies, and lean meats. Bad foods: potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, etc.
