Maca Benefits
Question: What are the benefits of Maca Root Supplements?
Answer: Maca Root is a nutritional supplement from the Andes in Peru, that has been called a 'superfood".
While it won't leap tall buildings in a single bound (or cause you to do the same :-) ), it does have a lot going for it in terms of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other plant chemicals.
So even if you aren't so bedazzled as to wear your underwear on the outside, like Superman, it can give you greater stamina, endurance, and mental concentration.
What can Peru's 'Superfood' do for you?
Maca root is used for fertility enhancement (even in animals!), male and female menopause, stamina, endurance, and hormone related problems in both men and women.
For example, men have used it for impotence, erectile problems, and increased testosterone levels. Women have used Maca Root for hot flashes, a HRT alternative, perimenopause, and PMS associated problems. It will not cause ovaries to atrophy, unlike HRT, as it stimulates the body to produce its own hormones, instead of supplying the body with hormones.
Maca Root works so effectively for both men's and women's hormonal imbalances because instead of supplying plant hormones (like phytoestrogens), it acts on the hypothalamus-pituitary gland. This hormonal pathway produces precursers to male and female hormones, as well as affecting the adrenal glands. Maca does not necessarily stimlulate it, but acts in a regulatory manner, so whether your body is producing too much or too little of a particular hormone, consuming Maca will balance your system.
What's in Maca Supplements?
Maca contains amino acids, minerals, sterols, fatty acids, vitamins, saponins, tannins, and carbohydrates (maca root is a tuber, a starch).
amino acids - alanine, argine, aspartime, glutamine, glycine, histidine, OH-proline, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, proline, sarcosine, serine, threonine, tyrosine, and valine. Protein makes up 11 - 14% of maca root.
minerals - calcium (this is the main mineral, with about 10%), copper, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, silica, and traces of iodine, manganese and sodium
sterols - brassicasterol, erogosterol, ergostadienol, campesterol, sitosterol, and stigmasterol. (Plant sterols are part of the cell membrane and they are also used as the starting material in the production of steroidal drugs. They may inhibit tumour growth and regulate blood cholesterol).
fatty acids - laric, myristic, palmitic, palmitoleic, linoleic, arachidic, steric, behanic, nervonic, lignoceric, tridecanoic,7-tridecanoic, perntadecanoic,7-pentadecanoic, heptadecanoic,9-heptadecanoic,nonadecanoic,11-nonadecanoic, and 15-eicosenoic.
vitamins - A, B1, B2, B3, B12, C, D and E
Are there any side effects in this 'Peruvian Ginseng'?
No. Maca root is not a stimulant. It does not contain caffeine like guarana and coffee, so it doesn't affect the central nervous system. It is basically a food, so is classed as a nutritional supplement in the same manner as spirulina, wheat grass and green barley, as opposed to a manufactured vitamin like vitamin a.
You might find some websites claiming they use the "true" maca root, and warning you to be careful about buying the right one. Their intentions might be good :-), but Lepidium peruvianum and Lepidium meyenii are both one and the same maca plant! The difference in name comes from the lack of singularity that sometimes occurs when botanists name plants. One refers to the species, one to the genus.
What you might want to look out for when you buy MACA Root is whether it was grown organically, without the use of pesticides, and where it was grown in Peru. Some of the growing areas in the Andes are affected by contaminated water from mines, so you could end up with mercury or lead contamination. And of course, your Maca Root should not be diluted with any fillers. Some Maca is also irradiated. This is a process that kills bacteria, but there is some controversy over its impact on we humans. Select a reputable brand with hygenic storage facilities, and that should minimise spoilage from bacteria.

Question: what is maca powder and its benefits?
Answer: Maca is a Peruvian herb that helps with overall sexual health and saying it's a powder is just saying how it's processed (dried and crushed up, basically). Many people use it for libido or other aspects of sexual health, but it is very popular world-wide. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Question: what is maca and what would the benefits be of taking it?
Answer: Well I suppose you could give it a go....The web site has some good info on it.
Question: If you have used powdered maca, how do you like it? Have you personally noticed any benefits? I just got an 8oz trial bag. I was thinking of adding some to these oat bran no-bake cookie no-bake things (oat bran, raw almond butter, wheat germ, flax meal, raw carob powder, dates, processed and then rolled into balls for a quick snack - yum). Do you have to take teaspoons full every day to notice any positive effect? Share anything you'd like as long as you do have some experience with maca.
I normally don't even ingest caffeine and i definitely don't drink or do any kind of drug. I don't want to have any kind of "buzz" or anything artificial like that. I am just looking for increased nutrition. Am I going to have any weird result like a buzz or anything? Some of the descriptions about how good it makes you feel has me worried!
If you don't have any experience with maca please do not respond.
if you have no idea what the heck I'm talking about here's a page on maca...
http://www.macaroot.com/benefits/index.html
Answer: I don;t think there is any real benefit to Maca. I tried it once or twice. It taste bad on top of not doing anything
Question: Do you know MACA? Hi!
I would like to know the benefits of Maca. Is it better to buy MACA from Canadian or American brand or MACA from a Peruvian brand? Are there any risks in taking MACA in a daily basis?
If anyone knows about MACA, I would appreciate your comments.
Thank you!
Answer: Yes, it's true that Maca is used for fertility and libido for both men and women. The main reason is because of it's arginine content. I recommend a reputable company with a clean (non-toxic) standardized extract. People with issues with Arginine are those that have herpies viruses. Arginine can potentiate breakouts. I have recommended it many times, and have gotten great feedback on it. I have also used it for about 3 months in the past for libido and it worked for me and my partner. It is my choice for any sexual dysfunction issues.
Question: Can girls take the superfood MACA too? I know it's more guys take it, but can girls take it too? What benefits do girls reap from it?
Answer: The best superfood supplement for girls and guys is Wild Blue Green Algae/ Spirulina.
I like Billys Infinity Greens. They can be ordered online.
Question: HAS ANYONE USED MACA??? have u used maca
what where the benefits/side effects u experienced
Answer: Yes, I've use Maca and I know several people who have before as well. Some of us had better effects than the rest, but it's true that different people respond differently to different nutrients. ;-)
I noticed general sexual benefits (which I won't go into for decency sake), but it just went better in general. I've heard of some people using it to boost Testosterone, but none of us felt that and I haven't seen any research to suggest it so I'm skeptical of that claim.
None of us have had any noticeable side effects and the bottles had no warnings on them. Aside from allergic reactions (which would be very rare to Maca), I haven't heard of any side effects. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Question: question about Maca Root? is maca only for boost libido? is there any other benefits?
Answer: Though Maca is best known today for its ability to enhance feritlity and libido, it has been used for at least 2000 years by native Peruvians in the high Andes mountains as a food staple as it has the highest nutritional value of any food crop grown in that rather inhospitable region for plants.
It is rich in sugars, protein, starches, and essential nutrients (especially iodine and iron). The tuber or root is consumed fresh or dried. The fresh roots are considered a treat and are baked or roasted in ashes (in the same manner as sweet potatoes). The dried roots are stored and, later, boiled in water or milk to make a porridge. They also are made into a popular sweet, fragrant, fermented drink called maca chicha. In Peru even maca jam, pudding, and sodas are popular. The tuberous roots have a tangy, sweet taste and an aroma similar to that of butterscotch.
Question: how much maca should i take? its the powder form and the bottle says 1/3 tsp daily thats 833mg.
i heard that anything under 1500mg would be useless.
i want to follow the directions but i also want the absolute maximum benefit.
i should also say that im 23 and using it to regulate my hormones because i have incessant periods. i also hope for it to give me energy and a general wellbeing.
Answer: Whole World Botanicals co-founder and President Viana Muller, PhD discovered a way to join forces with Peru native people to provide a market for their medicinal herbs, such as Maca. Go to her website and click on Royal Maca. You will find research for using Maca and answers to many questions about it.
Question: will maca root make you pregnant?? i REALLY don't want to have a kid now but i do want the other benefits that it has.
website:
http://macaroot.com/
Answer: As far as anyone has been able to deduce thus far, the only thing proven to get a woman pregnant is a load of sperm.
Keep that in mind at all times, and you should be safe from unwanted pregnancy.

Question: For self defense which is better? Boxing has its benefits in conditioning and ju jitsu has the ground mauy thai has a complete stand up game as opposed to boxing or kick boxing but then there are karv maga and Kali . I want to be a competative boxer and I am good , and have a passion . But when circumstanses from the steet are incorporated in my neighborhood a good fist game isnt always egnough , Due to guns knives and people willing to do what ever it takes to win a fight . I dont provoke fights my hands are registered so i avoid them but where im from its not always possible , could someone give me some advice on what is goood to take and maybe a mix of styles soley for nessacery self defence in life threating positions. I look toward kali and karv maca but i am open to anything that could help thankyou, and please not i am not a violent person i just want to protect myself
Answer: I've been researching the same thing. I concluded that Krav Maga was probably the best as a practical real self defence fighting style. It's designed to adapt to the student rather than the other way round. Muay Thai is great and if taught to be applied in the street can be very effective. But i would go with Krav Maga.
I was going to take it on myself but classes are too far away so i've decided on Brazilian Jiujitsu and Weng Chun Kung Fu. I'd rather do Krav Maga but anything will do right now.
Also, check out www.tommycarruthers.com for some JKD if you're into that. He likes fast effective self defence strategies. Have a look at his videos. They're on YouTube too.
