Answer: As long as there is no history of a nut allergy in the family, then it shoud be fine :)
Question: What nuts are considered tree nuts vs other kinds of nuts? I'm trying to figure out what nuts are tree nuts and which ones aren't. Some people have allergies to peanuts and others to tree nuts. I like to cook with nuts and need to know the difference/s.
Answer: The peanut is mislabeled as a nut - it's actually a legume or bean. All other nuts are grown on trees. Some nuts are actually drupes, meaning the "nut" is covered by a fleshy fruit like covering which is removed and the nut is dried. Think butternut or walnut, almonds.
As far as allergies are concerned, some people can eat almonds and others can't. It just depends on the person and their allergies.
Toasting nuts before use brings out the flavor. All it takes is a quick turn in a dry (no fat) skillet over medium heat and keep stirring every couple of minutes. As soon as you see a little color, remove from the heat. They will brown a bit more as they cool from the residual heat.

We also have egg & fish allergies - I've gotten pretty good at figuring out egg but the nuts are a mystery. We must avoid every kind of tree nut (but peanuts are ok).
Thanks!
Answer: umm you don't have to put the nuts in it is usually something that is added it never really has a purpose it also depends on the something that you are making nut are usually added for flavor so without them it shouldn't be a problem.

Question: Can you store nuts in the freezer? Nuts such as pistachios, almonds, pecans, cashews? I know the oil in nuts causes them to go rancid over time, but is it OK to freeze them?
Answer: Yes, freezing is the best way to keep nuts for a long length of time. Putting them in the refrigerator can cause mold from the condensation. Just wrap them in an airtight container and freezer bag....squeeze all the air out that you can. If you are going to use some in a recipe, just measure out what you need and allow them to sit on the kitchen counter until they are room temperature before you add them to a batter, etc.

Question: How do you put those fake plastic lug nuts on the wheel covers? I have an '03 Chevy Venture and while getting the tires rotated, the mechanic broke off several of the fake plastic lug nuts holding the hub cap on the wheel. I bought some replacement fake plastic lug nuts but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get them into the hub cap/wheel cover. How do you attach these fake lug nuts to the hub cap?
Answer: Mechanic broke them? I'd find a new mechanic. The plastic ones should just snap into the cover and then you can screw them onto the lug nuts. Be sure not to over tighten or you will be back to square one. I usually hand tighten them until I hear or feel them click twice
Question: How do you measure one ounce of chopped nuts? In my quest to eat better, I'm taking the experts' advice and adding one ounce of nuts to my diet. Here's the problem: I'm not a big nut fan so I'm going to chop them up and add them to my morning oatmeal. I don't have a scale so I have no idea how much is one ounce of chopped nuts. A quarter cup? A third cup? Any ideas?
Answer: According to http://www.gourmetsleuth.com 1 ounce of almonds = 0.31 cups of almonds = 4.96 tablespoons.
FYI: Volume cannot be directly converted to weight. This would be the same as trying to convert pounds into inches. The people who answered "2 Tablespoons" are way off base.
It is true that 1 fluid ounce = 2 tablespoons. However, these are not the same as weight ounces. For example, a cup of lead pellets and a cup of feathers both occupy 8 ounces of volume. They will not WEIGH 8 ounces. This is because every ingredient has a different density. I think it is very unfortunate that the morons who invented the English System gave the same unit name (ounces) to both volume and weight. A lot of people get the two confused.
GourmetSleuth has a data base of ingredients with an average weight given a specific volume. These are approximations only and are not very accurate. This is the ONLY way you can convert volume/weight.
Question: How do you salt roasted nuts? I'm trying to roast some raw macadamia nuts, and I was just wondering if anyone knew how to salt them? Do I just sprinkle salt on them before roasting or do I use a salty solution and spritz them while they roast? Any advice for any type of nuts would be helpful. Thanks!
Answer: You salt them when you can smell the oils coming out of them, about 10min into the roasting process, fine salt will stick to the seeds because of the oil, salting after you roast won't have the same results
Question: How can I convince my girlfriend that she really can eat nuts? She says she doesn't enjoy eating nuts, that she gets nauseous just thinking about it. I keep telling her, that peanuts aren't nuts, they're legumes, and thus she doesn't have any reason to not eat nuts. She's missing out on a good source of protein, all I want is for her to have a healthy, well-rounded diet; nuts add both texture and flavor, and have a great mouth feel.
I have two samples for her, all ready to go. How can I get my girlfriend to try my nuts?
Answer: i guess your girl friend must be figure conscious so why not tell her that on eating that she can reduce some weight ..... :-)
Question: What nuts are good for people who want to gain weight? I am a 26 years old man, very skinny. I eat a lot. But I don't know why I am skinny? People have told me to eat nuts. But what kinds of nuts should I be eating? I have pimples, therefore I don't want to eat any nuts that cause pimples. Thanks for any reply.
Answer: Gday mate! Nuts are high in fat. And fat is fat, whether's it's saturated or unsaturated - it's FAAAAAAAT! You eat loads of fat, and guess what?...
better choices for you to put weight on:-
1. go to gym and lift 4-8 reps, 3 sets once a week only. Make sure you get someone to spot you and lift the heaviest weights you can with good form. Weights build muscle mass.
2. Eat 6 meals per day. And eat every 2-3 hours. Eat meat and "not meat". (Proteins and carbs). Your protein at EACH meal should be the size of your open palm. And eat complex carbs (google for examples). Protein builds muscle. Carbs give you energy.
3. Limit cardio to maybe 100 minutes a week and concentrate on the HEAVY weights.
Weights:- Bench press, weighted chin-up's, squats. Only 3 exercises, only 3 sets of each, only once a week.
Drink a protein shake with skim milk and a tablespoon of honey JUST before you close your eyes at night.
Good luck my man! This WILL work!! let us know how you got on!
Cheerio!
