Omega 3 Fish Oil
Question: Do products containing Omega-3 fish oil have mercury in them? Is it safe to eat products that contain Omega-3 fish oil, like dairy products or peanut butter or generally anything that says it's in there, because of the possibility of mercury? I am on the autistic spectrum, which makes me especially awry, because autistics tend to accumulate mercury in their bodies more than regular folk.
I'm especially curious about organic milk containing DHA Algal Oil, which is a source of Omega-3s. Could this have mercury?
Answer: NO! The omega-3's in non-animal products like milk are not derived from salmon, or any fish for that matter. Omega-3's are found in plants but in FAR LESS amounts than fish.
Don't worry about PCB's like mercury. Mercury is due to bioaccumulation which is not a problem for plants but a problem for carnivores or other animals at the top of the food chain like salmon and us humans.
Question: Does Omega-3 fish oil have the same health effects on dogs as it does for humans? Omega-3 fish oil can help prevent arthritis, and also apparantelly helps your mental health... that's for humans. Would it have the same effect on dogs if they took one capsule on a regular basis? And would it be safe?
If it's safe and it'll help their health, I want to start giving my two dogs a capsule of fish oil each day with their breakfasts.
Answer: My sister's vet recommended fish oil for her dogs.

Question: Is eating Omega-3 (fish oil) good for your skin? I'm just wondering if eating fish oil like Omega-3 is good for the skin. I started to develop severe dry skin and flaky skin on my face and I want to get rid of it. I heard from many people saying that oil is good for hydrating dry skin. So I was wondering if there were any benefits from eating it (omega-3).
And I don't want stupid answers like "oil will make your face greasy" or anything like that.
Answer: I've been taking flaxseed oil (same Omega 3s, no fishy aftertaste) for a few months now. I have noticed my face is not as dry as it used to be, but I wouldn't say it's a huge, marked change. I have noticed my face is a little greasier and does break out a bit more then it used to, but not sure if that's linked to the oil or not.
Bottom line, it's good for a lot of things, not totally sure skin quality is one of them though. At least not to a point I've noticed or would rave about.
Question: What can I do to keep the Omega-3 Fish Oil pills I'm taking from upsetting my stomach? I have begun to take Omega-3 Fish Oil pills for my heart and my wife is taking them for our baby. When we take them, however, they cause significant gas and upset stomach. Is there something we can take with the pills to keep that from happening so we can get the health benefits without the upset stomach?
Answer: There could be artificial additives or may not use a process that removes harmful contaminants. Manufacturers are not required by the FDA to list all ingredients on the label. I suggest switching brands - you really do get what you pay for when it comes to vitamins and supplements. I take and recommend all natural OmegaGuard. It's ultra pure and a pharmaceutical grade and uses low temperature, triple molecular distillation and purification process that concentrates natural beneficial omega 3 fatty acids and helps remove harmful contaminants including heavy metals lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, dioxins and PCBs.
Hope this is helpful and feel free to contact me with questions.
Question: How much Omega-3 fish oil should I take daily? I am taking Omega-3 fish oil softgels (1000 mg) once a day.
The suggested use on the bottle says to take one or two softgels two times daily, so that could be a total of 4 softgels daily.
Do you think that the one softgel (1000 mg) I am taking daily is enough?
Thanks.
Answer: I follow the directions on the bottle. Try that and if it seems to bother you, then go back to one twice daily.
Question: Can you suggest a brand that provides pure omega 3 fish oil? I would like to buy omega 3 from fish oil at my local pharmacy or natural store, but i don't know if they are all safe and pure even though they write 100% pure omega 3. In these stores I can buy the Jamieson brand. I am really looking forward to find out if they provide with pure (no mercury) fish oil.
Other available brands are
*Webber Naturals *NOW Foods
Are they 100% pure (no mercury) fish oil?
Thanks for any help... :)
Answer: Jamieson's Omega-3 Complete is formulated using EPA and DHA in their natural triglyceride form for optimal bioavailability. It contains vitamin E in the form of natural mixed tocopherols to prevent oxidation and maintain the freshness of the fish oil. The EPA and DHA are extracted from sardines, mackerel, and anchovy, which contain fewer contaminants than other cold water fish because they feed directly on plankton. Jamieson fish oil is further purified using a gentle molecular distillation process to remove all traces of mercury and other micro-contaminants. This pharmaceutical grade product contains 400 mg of EPA and 200 mg of DHA in each capsule. This is one of the highest potency levels available on the market today!

Question: On the Nature Made Omega 3 Fish Oil it says to take 1 to 2 a day and i was wondering if that was for sick peop? Okay, on the Natures Made Omega 3 Fish Oil bottle i read on the becak to take 1 to 2 tablets a day with food. I was wondering if that was for people that is sick? And ca children take it?
Answer: I think the better way to addres this is how many milligrams you need per day. One pill or 2 pills depend how rich is the omega 3 content.
also depends on your purpose or need to take omega 3. medical journel says 2 servings of fish per week is adequate
info from journel:
The dose of omega-3 fatty acids depends on what you are using it for. For instance, if you are 30 years old and are just looking to reduce the likelihood heart disease in your lifetime, then the suggested dosage on the label of 2-3 capsules per day is reasonable advice. This daily dosage approximates the two servings of fish per week that has been shown in several large studies to be enough to impact on dangerous heart events.

Answer: It depends on the purpose you want to accomplish.
If it is your general health preservation take 3 caps per day. If it is for a specific purpose like to lower triglycerides, start with 6 caps per day and taste your blood after a moth. Adjust accordingly.

Question: Omega 3 fish oil pills three times a day? I am starting to take omega 3 fish oil pills. The back of the bottle says to take one pill 3 times a day. The pills are 1200 mgs each. Is it necessary to take 3 a day or can I just take one a day. If I only take one, will the pills still work or is it not enough?
Answer: If you're taking fish oil for health maintenance, it's not necessary to take it 3 times a day. Experts recommend healthy adults to take between 500mg to 800mg of EPA and DHA (combined) per day. Omega 3 is actually not just one oil, but refers to a family of polyunsaturated fats. If you want to find out, check out this comprehensive page about omega-3: http://theconsciouslife.com/anti-inflammatory-diet-how-to-balance-omega-3-omega-6-fats.htm
Laslty, do make sure that the fish oil you're taking is free from environmental pollutants like mercury and dioxins. Otherwise, instead of getting healthier, you'll get more sick when you take impure fish oil everyday.
Hope this helps!
Question: Are Omega 3 fish-oil pills only used as dietary supplements? I want to start taking fish-oil pills with Omega 3 in it, but I don't really care about the dietary reasons; I'm already skinny/ slender, and I don't want to get some eating disorder from taking diet pills (if it'll even affect me). I heard that fish-oil pills are a great beauty product and does wonders for your skin. Would it be "hazardous" to take these pills?
Answer: Omega 3 fish oils (the long chain ones) used to be promoted as being good for your joints, it's odd that research has shown it one of the few things they don't actually do.
Omega 3's are essential fatty acids that our body's cannot synthesize. It appears they have multiple beneficial physical and mental health effects. It's the fact that they keep people content that leads to the weight management effect. I say management because the odd effect is that people taking them tend to be closer to their ideal rather than above or below. Taken in the prescribed dosage there are no unwanted effects from taking Omega 3's. Whether it'll do enough to make your skin look better I don't know, but based on everything I've read I take them daily, and would recommend them to others.
Question: Will taking Omega 3 Fish Oil Pills make you smell? I'm interested in taking Omega 3 fish oil pills. I have read some reviews, and some people state that they make you have a fishy scent? Is this true?
Answer: If u buy really cheap ones its possible to belch a fishy taste that can smell. That's why its important to get a good quality pill. To see if its good quality break open 3-4 pills and put the oil in a shot glass and put in the freezer over night. If it freezes its bad quality. If it has a jello consistency its good. I highly recommend you take them though. The ones I get are from gnc and are really good quality and not expensive.
Question: Omega-3 fish oil, does it improve concentration and brain focus? I heard that studies have shown, Omega-3 fish oil improves your concentration (and the heart, I know).
The past month I've been experiencing a lack of concentration and finding it hard to pay attention to people...
So does Omega-3 oil work? How long does it take to work? Have you tried it?
thanks.
Answer: The studies recommend 6x400mg capsules a day for the first 3 months then 2x400mg capsules a day for ever!! My son is on his second month of capsules now. It is supposed to be 3 months before you see any effect. It has done wonders for his self confidence (he thinks it is making him cleverer at school) but im not sure from an objective point of view if it is having an effect. but it isnt doing any harm so we're keeping it up. we are using eye q chews which he swallows no probs. he's 7. hope this helps.
Question: Can Omega 3 fish oil pills make you feel sick? I started a new vitamin regemin today, and I think it is making me feel ill. I took one Centrum One A Day Weight Smart vitamin and one Omega 3 Fish Oil capsul. I have taken the weight smart vitamins before with no problem, but for some reason, I'm starting to feel a little dizzy and nausous. Could it be the Omega 3 pill? If so, will these symtoms continue, or do I need to stop taking them?
I took them with breakfast, so I don't think that's the problem. I've eaten normally since then as well.

Question: Hello, I am currently taking omega 3 fish oil. My question is do I need to eat fish, in order to have a bette? Hello, I am currently taking omega 3 fish oil. My question is do I need to eat fish, in order to have a better memory.
Answer: If you are taking a substantial amount of Omega 3 Fish Oil, then no, you don't need to eat fish.
