Personal Health And Grooming
Question: Starting a mobile dog grooming business, need ideas for a business name.? Need a name that catches the imagination, easy to remember and unforgettable. Love dogs, concerned for their personal grooming, health and well-being, would like a name that sends out this type of message.
Answer: Since any names that are suggested here may already be owned by another party, I wanted to go a different route...
I suggest either hiring a name creation firm or get together with your friends and/or family and throw a "name party" & have everyone bounce some ideas around. Compile a listing of names that you like the best. Once you have that list, do as much free research as you can before you delve into comprehensive research. I listed some links where you can do some preliminary name checking. However, please be aware that this is merely scratching the surface of what's out there. Only comprehensive research will tell you if the name is truly available. But, these links are free & a great place to start, so I'd try them out first.
There are other sites that offer free searching capabilities in conjunction with their commercial services, so I'm not able to post those links due to the Yahoo! TOS. You'll also want to check domain names & yellow pages, so simply do a search for "free domain name search" and "national yellowpages" and the appropriate links will pop up.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!
Question: How does your lifestyle affect your consumer decisions? Include the importance of family and friends, personal health and grooming, and contributing to the community.
Answer: I'm living the stingy lifestyle now. I avoid, deliberately, all forms of advertising as much as I can. I try not to buy anything which is a luxury good. Other than that, importance of family and friends, personal health, grooming, contributing to the community have not changed.
Question: Where can I find an organization to pay me for being a personal home health aide? Let me start by saying that I live in Minnesota. My mother had a stroke in 2005 and every since she came home in 2006, I have been her personal home health aide. I do everything from testing her blood sugar, assisting her with hygiene needs, grooming needs, preparing meals for her, assisting her in and out of her wheelchair and other things.
However, I haven't been getting paid. I have spent just about every single penny out of my savings because I have been out of work and have only been able to work a small part time job (2days/week 3 hrs/day). I really need help finding an organization that will pay for me to do this. If I can't find an organization to pay me, it won't change anything because I still have to care for my mother.
I do this M-W-F from 7am-7:30pm and T-TH from 7am-1pm.
I really need help please. I am on bending knees begging for resources!
Thanks and God bless to anyone that can help me out!
I just want to say THANK YOU to the 2 of you that have responded so far! You are just a blessing right now. Thank You! May God shine on your life!
Answer: I live in MN to. And I have a PCA that comes in everyday to work for me. You need your own life sweety. Is your mom on SS & SSI. Call your Public County Health center. Ask to speak to a nurse their and tell them about your mom and the situation. And they'll send out a public health nurse to evaluate your mother. And then they decide hour many hours aweek you can use a Personal Care Attendant. They will send you out a packet of all the agency's that provide their service. You pick an agency and they will send someone out and basically they do everything from housework, daily care, shopping and so forth. I love my PCA worker, She is really great with instructions on what I needs to be done. You shouldn't have to go through this alone..

Question: I have a very personal question? Ok, I'm 18 years old and have never had sex (including oral sex) and I plan on keeping it that way for a few more years or until I'm married...I haven't decided yet. I've only had a pap smear once, which was when I was 16 and they put me on birth control to give me lighter periods (I have really bad periods)...I didn't stay on birth control, but the gyno said everything looked fine down there...so I haven't been since. Usually, I keep myself neatly trimmed and groomed down there...but yesterday I shaved and took my first close look at my, um, privates. On the upper part of my labia minora there was a spot the size of the eraser of a no. 2 pencil (and pretty much the same shape as well). It was a really dark brown almost black and is completely flat. Now, I might have always had this there but I don't know...but could it be anything to worry about? Is it normal to have spot there? I feel fine...no discharge or anything like that. I haven't got health insurance anymore, so there's no going to the doc unless I'm really sick. I also don't have anyone to really ask because I'm slightly embarrassed, so I thought I would on here. Thanks for any and all help!
Answer: You are right when you surmise that it could have been there all along. It may well be just a mole.
But as you'd guess, the first step is for a doctor to have a look. I get what you're saying about no insurance and that's certainly an issue. But honestly, just a quick exam to see if it's nothing shouldn't be horribly expensive. Might be able to get someone to check you at the health department.
If you have any followup questions, feel free to ask. Privately is OK if you're embarassed - as you'd indicated up above.

Question: Shih Tzu owners what can you tell me about them? I have done quite a bit of research on the breed background, personality, needs, grooming, and health concerns. My husband got me a pup from a rescue the other day. I love it, and it is so cute. We had been researching them for awhile now, and we knew we wanted one. I am just wondering about personal experiences from owners. I also have not had a puppy in quite sometime, because I usually rescue adult dogs. Any personal info (not cut and paste already done that research) or experiences are appreciated. I am also wondering if they are hard to housetrain or hard to train (sit, stay, ect)? Please let me know. Thanks
Amanda M- I said no copy and paste. I have already researched that. I am looking for personal experiences that owners have had with their pups.
Answer: I LOVE my Shih Tzu. She was extremely easy to housetrain. We used the weewee pads & she did great. She is such a sweet little girl & loves to cuddle. :) She's pretty smart, but only really knows how to sit (We never really pressured her into knowing anything else). She LOVES our other 2 dogs & gets along OK with cats. She thinks she is alot bigger than she is and barks like she's a German Shepherd. She isn't afraid of anything. I never found her to be stubborn at all and she does great with children. She isn't bothered by anything and she has never growled or bit anyone! She is 2 and a half years now & such a great dog.
I love her and i'm sure you'll love your new puppy as well. They really are great dogs.
<33
We get her groomed monthly and she needs to be brushed alot. She actually loves the outdoors & walks are her favorite. She cuddles & loves everyone. She does get jealous easily though. Lol.
Question: Was I Being Rude or Was She? A wedding invitation was sent out by a close friend and it included an RSVP card. On the bottom it said to indicate any food allergies or restrictions so that the bride and groom can finalize the food plans. I put on the RSVP card that I'm vegetarian and would like to see a vegetarian dish prepared.
I got a call a couple of weeks later from the bride regarding what I wrote on the RSVP. She said that she doesn't want to pay extra for a single vegetarian dish but that there's "plenty of salad", and she said "I'm not sure if you caught on - but it was more so for people with health - related issues. Not personal preferences." I was kind of taken back, but whatever .. I argued my case and she ended the call with "This isn't a restaurant, you can't just pick and choose what you want to eat. Eat before hand or eat the salad. Your choice"
Was she being a total bridezilla ? I mean, she did ask about people's dietary restrictions and I told her what mine were, but she won't even consider it. What do you think ?
Answer: Can't anyone go without eating for a couple of hours? "Food allergies or restrictions" are not choices. Being a vegetarian is a choice. You put your friend in a difficult spot. I agree with her. Either eat the salad or eat before you go, or just don't show up at all. Try to help make it her day and not about you.
Question: please can i ask muslims for help please would it be poss to ask your views please? hi my name is wendy and i am currently doing a course in health and social care,if possible please could you help me in factuall infomation as i need to produce a leflet and speak to a group these are the topics (1)requirements for personal care(2)diet(3)custom(4)grooming and dressing(5)medication and pain relief(6)food prepertation requirements(7religious beliefs and practices.if anyone could possibly give me some infomation on this i would be very gratefull please anwser or email on [email protected] it will be a big help as i want to point out ethnic points of view on how us cares should be (im not one yet training) would be a big help.please no silly people as i am very serious about this thank you
Answer: i understood you're serious.but for example turkish people and arabics....both of them are muslim but there are so many differentses between them...so,why don't you do it with a nation group?
Question: What would be the best dog for me? I just want to rule out that I dont want a lab and I want some sourcing to your recommendations if possible. Me and a few people are moving into a really nice big house with 300 acres of land. We have been all talking about getting a dog for companionship. We have plenty of land for the dog to roam and run around on so exercise is no issue. We want a dog that will be friendly to strangers but thats not a neccesity seeing as we are living in the middle of nowhere. We would like a dog where it wouldnt be too difficult to find a breed in black just because its a few of the peoples personal reference. We would like a low maintaince dog where grooming is not required and we wont run into too many health problems (just for the sake of $$).
we are looking for a mid-big dog and will most likely adopt a young one so dont worry
Answer: I always recommend German Shepherd Dogs. E-mail me if you want a website for a good breeder. I work for a breeder, and my dog is from there too!
Question: Havanese? My family is considering adding a Havanese.....? We've had a miniature poodle for 7 years, whom we adore, but her health is sketchy at best and she has become very aggressive over the years. As much as we love her, she is unpredicatable and suffering from seizures (very mild) and we are painfully considering putting her down.
We have an 8 year old and do not want to make the mistake of picking a very hyper, snippy dog again. We are looking for a friendly happy go lucky dog who can travel and be treated like a queen. Due to allergies we need a dog that doesn't shed, grooming isn't a problem.
More and more people are suggesting a Havanese and having no personal experience with them I am putting this out there. Any thoughts?
I really appreciate your input...thanks!
Answer: Of all the small dogs, a havanese is the one that is unquestionably best with kids. They're sturdier (more like a terrier) so can withstand the play, they're friendly, lively, clowns, and also easy to train. They're not hyper, just playful.
It goes without saying that kids still need to be taught how to treat a puppy with respect and the puppy of course, needs training as well.
The most important thing from your aspect is to find a reputable breeder, see as many of their dogs as possible to make sure they have the temperament you want. If the mother's temperament especially is one you like, you can be pretty certain that, with correct socializing and training, your puppy will be what you want for your family.
Question: Can anyone tell me about the Peterbald breed? I am considering adopting a Peterbald from a breeder who rescues older purebreeds. She was somewhat vague and so were the websites I looked at. Does anyone have personal experience with this breed? what should I expect? She said the cat has a high motabolism but did not say how much or how often to feed the cat. Just wondering if someone could tell me how affectionate or people oriented these guys are, what the energy level is, health concerns, things like that. She said little grooming is required other than ears, but I've read Sphynxs require lots of grroming so would it not be the same with other hairless breeds?
Answer: It needs weekly grooming. Hairless cats tend to get stinky if not bathed regularly. Peterbalds are a little unusual in that if they don't get enough human attention, they can actually die. The feeding issue, how much how often, can be answered by your vet when you take it to them within 2 days of getting a new cat. Not really prone to any health issues as a breed. They're vocal, active, and social
Question: Can anyone answer my questions on Papillons? I know that I said I had agreed to getting a Pyrenean Mastiff, but currently I cannot find any nearby breeders and I don't think I will find any. I met a Papillion about a week ago and she was the sweetest thing I had met. I loved her ears ha ha. So here are my questions:
1. Are they prone to several health issues? If so, would it be dangerous to adopt one?
2. I know they're extremely intelligent, but do they potty train easily?
3. How much grooming required? You can compare it to the grooming of the Bichon Frise.
4. What color combo do you prefer on this breed? Just a personal preference.
Oh, and any general info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Wow, JG, what an answer!
The point of this website is mainly to get second opinions. YES I did look all this up but I want second opinions. You are getting "paid" 2 pts to answer my question anyway.
Answer: I am owned by a black & white papillon.
Grooming is easy-peasey. he gets a bath once a month, then two days later his K9 Advantix & Heartguard....I groom myself-the only things that need trimming are his toenails (use cat nail clippers, they are easier) and the bottoms of his feet to clean up the tuffs of hair that grow around the pads. After shampooing & rinsing, then towel drying, after use a small wide tooth comb gently on their fur. His ears are cleaned, too. Take a sterile gauze pad lightly moistened with mineral oil and clean out the inside. of each ear. Inbetween shampooing, brush the coat and ear fringes, tail plume with a soft bristle brush 2-3 times a week.....takes no more than 5 minutes.
Note-use only a clear, hypo allergenic shampoo designed for dogs as their coat tends to dry out easy, is delicate and yellows with colored shampoos.
He will not potty outside except to mark an occassional tree so we have compromised......he uses paper in an area of my large tiled kitchen...since he's fed on a shedual, ditto with playtimes walks and bedtime he's very predictable and that makes removing used paper as soon as it's used and putting down fresh easy..we have just ordered a 'potty patch' style gizmo to eliminate paper on the floor and hopefully I can get him to use that, then slowly move it onto our huge back deck (we have a condo). Housetraining can be difficult with little dogs-they have very small bladders and are sneaky about where they will go lol.
It takes a lot of patience with them and sometimes you have to compromise. As long as he has his papered corner, there are no accidents any where in the home.
Overall they are a healthy breed..no need to repeat the health issues mentioned already. They are NOT outside dogs. These dogs need to be housed inside...they also don't do well in very hot or very cold climates...keep in air conditioning when it gets very hot and use doggie coats if the winters are very cold.
These dogs are very intelligent, inquisitive, active and playfull, they retain their puppy like playfullness well into old age. They can be shy/timid but if well socialized that problem is reduced. You will have a great little guard dog with a papillon but be prepared, for he will bark to alert you then run to you for protection lol! Unless you have a dog with Small Dog Syndrome-read up on that so you can avoid it. On the subject of barking they do, but are not 'yappers'.
They need activity to prevent boredom and maintain good health. Mine gets two 30 minute walks daily and two play times for about 20 minutes each-we play fetch/catch...we also have a short training session to learn a new command/skill. he goes to bed in his safe place at 10 and sleeps soundly until I get up a 5 am ( I am an early riser) so he's getting enough exersize.
WARNING: These dogs have been bred for centuries to be one thing- a human companion. They are velcro dogs...a pap may not have the need to sit next to you or on you, but will always keep you in his sights. he will follow you from room to room, you will never use the bathroom alone. they do NOT do well being left for several hours during the day, they actually will pine for their 'Peep' so be prepared to take poochie with you where ever you can, They car ride very well and are rarely car sick. Since this breed often lives 15-17 years...you will have a shadow for at least that long. Also, they are delicate, especially the tiny ones show quality(5-7 pounders) Mine is oversized so he's not show quality pap but is a bit sturdier at 13 lbs...they can get as heavy as 16 lbs. They are convinced they can fly so be very careful with letting them on furniture...a jump off a high bed can result in a broken leg.
Also, little kids and papillons DO NOT MIX....little kids are too rough for these delicate charmers and the dog can get hurt, or become snappish.
I grew up with beagels, and had a welsh terrier mix & an english springer spaniel at one time...I am sold on papillons. Will never own any other kind of dog in future.
edit: my answer is not 'blather' thank YOU very much, nor am I a child, and I do NOT cut and paste excuse me.....my dog is a pap and I am just answering according to my experiences with him....why some people have the need to be rude is beyond me...maybe they should unknot their knickers before they put them on.
Question: Blog title for a miracle kitten? Due to a recent rescue of a darling little Himalayan with more problems than a 80 year old man on life support, I've decided to start up a blog to document his struggle through all of the challenges he's faced.
The only problem, I'm having writer's block coming up with a title!
I need some help! I'll definitely give credit where credit is due once I choose a title. :D
Now, some background information:
Our little kitty, Melvin, came to us by way of Craigslist from an accidental litter between two purebred Himalayans. His previous owner was caring, but somewhat unaware of all the underlying problems her two cats had.
When we got him, he was very sleepy, and slept around 22 hours a day. He was also extremely tiny. We figured that he was drowsy due to how tiny he was and thought nothing of it. But one thing I did notice was that he didn't eat nearly enough for a kitten that had been "weaned".
I tried to feed him as much as possible, even resorted to a bottle, but he still only took down about a tablespoon a day. Then the diarrhea hit. As soon as that came along, we rushed him to the vet.
The emergency vet took one look at him and said "abandoned kitten?" thinking that he was younger than he is. I told her that he was actually 2 months old and she was shocked. Melvin weighed only 9 ounces on that day. He had severe emaciation and dehydration and on top of that, a terrible ear infection. He was given a dextrose solution as well as an injection directly into his skin to aid with the dehydration and then fed Science Diet A/D. The vet gave us the food, some syringes and sent us on our way. Our instructions were to give him 40 to 60 ccs a day. That wasn't going to happen. He could only get down about half of that, so he returned to the vet.
Through some research and a few tests, the vet came to the conclusion that our little Melvin has dwarfism! Now, this is the same gene that causes "teacup" Persians to be so small. It is NOT something that should be bred! Not only that, his mother rejected him and his previous owner had no clue that Melvin was sneaking food from her dish to stay alive. Melvin is only going to get to be about 2 to 3 pounds when completely grown, and all the while, he is going to have to be monitored and cared for due to the many intestinal problems he may have. All this PLUS the constant requirements of grooming he is going to need. And on top of that, he has crossbite AND overbite, so he'll need to have dental visits often.
Anyways, he's getting better. He no longer sleeps all day, in fact, he's a wild little guy and runs rampant through the house. Of all of our cats, he's the most easily entertained.
I want this blog as a personal account to the dangers of owning anything "teacup". That cats should be bred for health, not looks. Also, Melvin is such a fighter, he deserves to be shared with the world.
Here's him after a much needed bath (He came to us completely covered in dried milk and mats):

Anyone have a good title for my blog?
Also: Melvin is up to 12 ounces, now. His tummy stays full and he eats like a pig. He can finally eat on his own and is doing great with the litter box. All in all, he's becoming an amazing little kitten.
Answer: I really like just, "Miracle Cat".
That's what drew me in to click on this question! Haha.
I also recommend something like:
Melvin the Mini-Miracle
Mighty Melvin, the Mini-Miracle, and his Story of Hope
Melvin: Tiny, but Tough
Mighty Little Melvin the Himalayan
The Story of Melvin; the Lucky Little Miracle Cat.
Hmm. Haha I can't think of any more. But I love your idea. What a poor little guy! He really is a fighter!
