Pms Vitamins
Question: Are there any "all natural" vitamins or herbal supplements that help with PMS? I just don't like the idea of taking the mainstream remedies but I have all of the issues like water retention, fatigue, moodiness etc. They aren't severe, just really annoying (especially to my poor hubby)!
Answer: Calcium is indeed the winner when it comes to alleviating the symptoms of PMS. Try to get 1,200 mgs a day in divided doses. Magnesium helps a lot too - 400mgs a day is what I would suggest.
Vitamin B6 helps a lot with water retention.
I'll post some links with info when I am at home later - or you could use google scholar (google that) and look up calcium, magnesium, and pryoxidine (B6) (each seperately) and dysmenorhhea (the medical term for PMS)
Good Luck
Question: What minerals or vitamins can help sore breasts during PMS?
Answer: i think if you take B-12 it will help....
Question: Questions about vitamins and PMS? I take a generic multivitamin every morning. When I have PMS, one of my symptoms is depression and just.... crying more than normal. A nurse once told me that vitamin B6 can help with this. I'm wondering if it's safe to take that along with my multivitamin. And would I need to take anything to help it absorb?
Thanks! :)
Answer: In the literature, Vitamin B6 is listed as being HELPFUL for depression, and also CAUSING depression. There are a variety of reasons for this, but in its application for PMS, you have to be very careful that you don't use it inappropriately:
There is low-estrogenic PMS, which causes a depressive mood, crying, and sometimes even suicidal tendencies, and there is high-estrogenic PMS, where women experience more intense and angry, or even fighting types of moods.
Vitamin B6 lowers estrogen, so it could be considered for those women who are the more intense, emotional types, but NEVER for those on the depressive side. In fact, I have seen patients who became suicidal after taking Vitamin B6. In addition, if Vit B6 is taken on a long-term basis (when not indicated), it can cause permanent nerve damage. It also changes your calcium / magnesium ratio, making you absorb more magnesium, and lowering calcium levels.
Question: I have Endometriosis and PMS any good remedies or vitamins that would help ease the episodes and pain?
during the time before and during my period i have severely painful cramps to where i feel nauses, i feel depressed, fatigued, irritable, unable to concentrate, and bloated. The depression during this time is alomost to much should i talk to my docotr about a antidepressant or because this caused by imbalanced hormones do another hormone therapy. I am currently taking birth control to help the symptomes but i dont know if that is enough. My doctor doesnt want to perform a laproscopy at this time she wants to try less invasive techniques first. Any other suggestion would be great.
Answer: Hello-
Vitamins that have helped me a lot with PMS: B6, and calcium magnesium-the Cal/mag is also very important for women on the pill-many people do not know this.... Also, I suffered a lot with pms, and severe cramps, fatigue, sadness , etc. I had the Laporschopic(sp?) surgery, and they removed ovarian cysts, and determined I had endometriosis. I felt tremendous relief from cramps post operation, and still do. One warning to you, after surgery-on my Dr.'s advice , I was on the pill for about 4 years, but I finally, very recently went off the pill, as it was causing me to feel depressed on an almost daily basis, some women have the more rare side, like myself. So, being on the pill, may not be helping your pms depression, you may want to talk to your Dr. about it ?
Question: Are There Vitamins for PMS? Lately my PMS is very bad. Not so much the cramps, etc. but my mood swings are getting volitile. Are there any natural cures or herbal things I can take to help calm down my stupid hormones? Thank you!
Answer: Hi sweetie, yes i agree that Evening Primrose Oil is a very good supplement for women and their hormones, plus it also benefits the skin and hair. Omega 3 in the form of fish oils or flaxseed oil is also very good. Since Eve Primrose Oil (Gamma Linolenic Acid) is an Omega 6, you should make sure you are taking sufficient Omega 3 oil (Alpha Linolenic Acid) to keep the Omega balance right. This is what i do: 3 tablespoons of Flaxseed oil a day (from your local healthfood shop - it must be cold pressed and organic is even better): 3 high strength capsules of Eve Primrose Oil daily. High strength is 1000mg and you can get this at most supermarkets quite reasonablly priced. B- Vitamin Complex is also good supplement to take. Since i have been doing the Omegas 3 and 6, my hormones have been much more balanced, i feel calmer and less snappy, also less cramps and less menstrual cycle pimples too. Give it a couple of months to see it work at its best.
CAUTION : Don't take such high doses of these Omega oils if you are epileptic. See a qualified practitioner before starting any new supplements, herbs etc, or do thorough research first.
Best of luck. x

Question: Can anyone help me out with vitamins and/or minerals that I can take for PMS? I have tried just about everything, so now I am ready to try this.
Answer: Additional omega–3 fatty acids in the form of EPA/DHA, boosting to 2–3 grams per day total.
5–HTP, 50–100 mg, generally taken in the evening. More may be needed during the PMS time-frame (up to 800 mg), but dosage and timing depend on your body’s individual make-up.
Vitamin D (25-OH vitamin D) blood testing and supplemental treatment to achieve optimal blood levels (50–60 ng/mL).
A trial of St. John’s wort, dosage and formulation varying with the individual, and not to be taken in conjunction with prescription antidepressants.
Neurotransmitter testing: evaluating levels of serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and GABA levels, as well as others, to gain an overall sense of what levels are.
Neurologic support with Neuroscience and Metagenics amino acid and herbal combination formulas.

Question: How to get rid of mood swings caused by pms? A lot of really happy things have happened this past week, but sadly my hormones are causing me to be sad for no reason because of pms.
Is there anything at all to help this? Vitamins, etc?
Answer: Hormone imbalances are very common during pre-menstruation, however, they are not necessarily incurable. But the causes and remedies are so different from person to person that I would recommend you see a recommended nutritionist or acupuncturist and have your specific condition diagnosed. But generally the best thing you can do is eat right and take it easy. NO sugar, do not gratify cravings for grease and chocolate. Eat plenty of healthy balanced foods, whole grains, fruits and veggies and up your intake of B12 vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids.
Question: I am having really bad PMS, feel like crying all the time and nothing interests me.What do I do? Are there some vitamins which help deal with PMS symptoms?
Answer: midol...but it makes my headaches worse lol i always take advil, lots of advil lol and if your not in too much pain, do something outdorrs or active, that always makes me feel better :) but if your cramps are unbearable eat a little ice cream and watch romance movies, musicals always make me feel good but I'm a musical theatre junkie lol
Question: are there any vitamins out there that help w/ PMS symptoms? Symptoms such as moods and cramps
Answer: My doctor always tells me to take Evening Primrose and that her patients swear by it, especially if you get tenderness in your breasts. You can buy it anywhere.
Question: What causes severe fatigue during PMS and what are some ways to help get rid of the fatigue? I get adequate sleep, eat right and take vitamins, exercise every day, and I don't do drugs.
Answer: I've always had pms....I don't think there's anything wrong with you. Sometimes when I'm stressed out I get really bad pms right before my period. I'm sixteen so maybe I'll grow out of it. But i'm not sure how old you are so I can't determine anything. My best suggestion is to deal with it or try to see what stresses you have in your life that might be making you irritable.
Question: What can I alter in my diet to prevent PMS induced pimples? I usually get hormonal pimples which irritates me to no end but Im sure there must be a way that getting certain nutrients/vitamins or eating certain foods can help make the dramatic change in hormones less so that I can avoid these. Has anyone found anything that works for you?
Answer: I get them to when I'm pmsing, on my chin and I can't stand it.............hope someone gives you some advice so I can take it to. Good Luck!
Question: Does anyone have severe PMS and bipolar disorder? If so, what do you do or take to help feel better? I have PMDD actually 10 days to 2 weeks out of the month and it is hell. I also have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I am on Wellbutrin - 300 mg a day. I take vitamins, cal-mag-zinc and Topamax. I need relief. Can anyone out there help.
Answer: Poor thing. I've got bipolar disorder and its exacerbated by the hormone swings that occur during the ovulation-menstruation cycle too. My shrink prescribed depo provera injections for me as it eliminated my periods all together and completely removed the source from which some of my problems stemmed. Maybe you could look at taking a pill or mini pill to help regulate your hormone cycle and lessen the PMDD, or get a contraceptive implant or depo shots which often cease menstruation all together...
Question: I need some great tips for dealing with PMS? Some months its okay and I can deal with it. Other months its bad. I wish people could understand how I feel, but they don't. I do take vitamins, I refuse to any medication for it, because I was on Paxil a few years and had a bad time with it. Please give me some great advice for this. Thanks.
Answer: Do you mean the moodiness, cramps, or something else? For moodiness, make some time to be by yourself. Read a book, take a shower, listen to some music. I've found that being on the computer isn't that gratifying when you need alone time :]
hope you feel better
Question: Does anyone use any supplements for PMS? I am looking for a good vitamin supplement for PMS. I have very bad mood swings that effect my life horribly. Curious to see what other women are using and how well it works.
Answer: I no longer have to worry about PMS but a friend of mine had really great success with B-Complex. This particular brand worked really well for her. It feeds the nerves and has a huge effect on mental and emotional stability. Stress, medications, sugars and alcohol all rob the body of B vitamins. It is water-soluble and needs to be taken throughout the day.
I would also suggest GLA Complex which also, among other things, supports well-being during the menstrual cycle.
Hope this is helpful and for more info feel free to contact me.
Question: I'm 28 and i suffer from bad pms that starts 2 weeks before my period and finishes when I have my period? Is there anything i can do other than using medication?
I have tried taking vitamins such as evening primrose without success.
Answer: The best thing to do is consult an gynecologist for your problem. Maybe you are having secondary dysmenorrhea which relates to disease processes. A gynecologist may perform workups to evaluate your pelvic pain.
