Probiotic Supplements
Question: What probiotic supplements work well for gas, bloating, and indigestion? Been having these symptoms for a long time, would appreciate some help from folks who have actually used some of these supplements.
Answer: http://innerhealth.com.au/
Question: Can you make yogurt with probiotic supplements? I make my own yogurt. The blend I use originally came from milk and a cup of Stoneyfield Farms yogurt. We have some Florastor supplements left over from when my husband was on antibiotics--could I add one or two capsule contents to my next yogurt mix to incorporate that strain?
Answer: I would say so, if the cultures are live, they should be okay. What kind of cultures are in it. (Bulgaricus is best, with Acidophiles.) Does it say on the bottle if they're live? Did you store the pills in the fridge or in a hot storage unit? That would depend on that too. I would use maybe enough to make a teaspoon full of the crushed pills to incorporate. If so, I'd try that. I make yogurt and kefir granules.
Question: Are probiotic supplements supposed to help prevent the common stomach virus? I take pro biotic supplements and eat the Activia pro biotic yogurt. I know this promotes the growth of "good" bacteria in your bowels to boost your immune system. The stomach bug is going around and I wanted to see if I had a chance of fighting it off!! Thanks
Answer: well in most cases yes but but the key to staying healthy is to wash your hands and try to keep as clean as possible and try not to come in contact with infected people
Question: Should I take colloidal silver and probiotic supplements at the same time? Do they work together well or just cancel eachother out? I am using them for acne break outs along with a few cold sores, I just feel so tired too.
My friend has taking colloidal silver for years and she is not blue one blue person and everyone thinks one of the greatest natural antibiotics is bad. Way to go let the big drug companies scare you into losing something good for you.
Answer: Real colloidal silver does not turn you blue or purple. The reports being repeated over and over and over again in the media about argyria are caused by silver salts and improperly-made colloidal silver - meant to scare the public from using effective and safe colloidal or hydrosol silver. Silver made using only pure, distilled (or pharmaceutical-grade) water and silver are perfectly safe because they are not dissolved using salts or other mineral manipulations. They have only water and ultra-microscopic silver. Don't believe the scare tactics - silver has been used safely for many decades. Like anything else, it must be properly made, but its benefits are unmatched - it is a perfect antibiotic (attacking ALL malignant strains while protecting the good, beneficial bacteria that your gut needs to function properly - two things conventional antibiotics cannot do), antiviral, and antifungal. It has been reported to cure all sorts of things. I use it all the time and I never get sick anymore. It is effective both topically and orally - just be sure to hold it under your tongue for a few minutes and swish it around before swallowing so it has the best absorption. It can even be made safely using proper home equipment.
Since colloidal silver does not attack your good bacteria, it will not attack the probiotics either. It is still good to keep taking probiotics even while using colloidal silver.
Question: Do probiotic supplements for pets work? And if yes, which ones do you recommend?
Answer: I'm not convinced they work for adults. Even with that said I do use Centrum liquid vitamins on occasion for my pets. Centrum is water soluable which is very important because a lot of animals can not digest vitamins that aren't water soluable. Get a good quality food and on occasion add the vitamin to some of the dry food or if you make your own frozen food add this during the processing stage. Some vitamins like C are burned off in the drying process and don't store well so what the bag says in probably higher than when you use the product. Be careful to use these vitamins sparingly because more people in the US are injured and hospitalized because of too many vitamins and supplements than being malnurished or deficient in vitamins or minerals.
Question: probiotic supplements to cure yeast infection? has anyone takin probiotic supplements to help yeast infections such as culturelle? But how would taking these pills by mouth take care of things down there if they arnt connected?
Answer: I dont use any pills or anything I eat Yogurt and if its bad I put plain Yogurt on like a cream....but when you eat it the active stuff in yogurt come out your butt and then climbs into the vagina area...I would love to tell you the name but im not sure what they call it.....anyways moral to my answer it probably does the same thing.
Question: Does anyone know where I can buy Align Probiotic Supplements in the UK?
Answer: Although Amazon.com do sell probiotics, I don't think you can get Align through them. You can order from quick2you.com, as they will ship to the UK. They're not actually available from any of the UK chemists yet, although I believe they will be available in Ireland shortly, and will be in the UK at a later date.
Question: are probiotic supplements in any way dangerous? i am considering taking them but not sure if they pose any harm.
Answer: No. I've never heard of any health risks from taking too many Probiotics except for getting looser stools with the higher quantities of Probiotics (and yes, excessive diarrhea can be bad, but that's moderation in all things).
What it comes down to is that there are more health concerns with insufficient levels of Probiotics than too much, and that is found more apparent by those who take antibiotics (which kill off the good and bad bacteria) and have regularity issues and/or reoccurring bad bacterial buildup (eg. recurring yeast infections) because of it. Feel free to E-mail me if you have more specific questions or more information. I hope I helped!
Question: Which probiotic supplements are best? ...and is it better to take the yogurts and drinks or the pills?
Answer: Pills that are refrigerated are the best.
Question: What is the best probiotic supplement out there? I would like to know what the best probiotic supplement there is.
Answer: no particular brand but there are some things to look for to assure you are getting a quality product
1) refrigerated probiotics may not have been kept at the correct temp during shipment, so there quality may be questionable. Go for the products that are shelf stable.
2) A product that has a type of enteric coating or gastro defense coating, this means that the probiotics will not be released until they reach the small intestines, thereby protecting them from stomach acid.
3) I prefer a multi-strain product as opposed to a product that only contains 1
4) Bacteria count, many brands say like 100 million at time of manufacture, it is better to go for a brand that says it "delivers" whatever the bacteria count is. At time of manufacture does not mean they are live by the time you purchase and consume them.
These are the basic rules I use when choosing a probiotic

Question: Probiotic supplements - regularily? Having a bout of ibs, and bought a probiotic supplement. Already know the good effects of it, but curious on if there are any bad side effects especially taken long term? For instance if anti-biotics can help with acne, can probiotics make it worse?
Also looking for a recommendation for one. Was a little thrown off by the price $20 for 14 capsules, at a local pharmacy, guessing I could get it for less at a GNC or health food store. Also do eat yogurt, but typically organic, and without the high fructose corn sugars as in the Activia or the other ones that theyre advertising with the extra cultures.
Answer: Probiotics promote the re-growth of naturally good bacterias residing int he human intestines. While antibiotics blindly kill everything in their way, probiotics only affect possitively the good bacterias. Of course, by increasing the population of the good bacterias in the colon, you will keep in ckeck the bad ones automatically to a large degree.
The way you co-relate antibiotics and probiotics is not right. One thing doesn't have to do any thing with the other.
If you want a good probiotics formula, look for one by Solgar in Whole Foods or in any Health Food Store. Watch: they're always expensive!
Good luck! :)
Question: What are the best supplements/probiotics to take, to get rid of massive Candida infection? I am too lazy to change my diet, so I'd like to know if there are any specific antifungals/probiotic supplements that work pretty well to destroy an intestinal yeast infection...?
If you managed to cure a Candida/yeast infection, what products or drugs did you take? How well did they work?
I REALLY need help on this as I am faced with a serious health problem that may or may not be Candida overgrowth, but without medical insurance, I can't get extensive testing done to figure out what condition I really have. However from my own research, it seems likely that Candida is a major component of my longterm illness, if not the whole thing.
Can you treat Candida effectively with supplements/drugs, without making significant dietary changes?
I'm getting all sorts of symptoms now that keep increasing, something like IBS (I feel things moving in my digestive system, and constipation is severe) and blurry vision/eye pain/bloodshot eyes, water retention, fatigue.. I need some help!
Answer: Yeast is controlled in the long run by correcting diet and lifesyle habits. If you don't want to take charge of your diet and change it to eliminate the fungus permanently you will continue to have issues.
Parasites feed on fungus and fungus feeds on sugars.
Parasites can cause all of the symptoms you are talking about. www.curezone.com has homeopathic remedies you can use to cleanse both fungus and parasites from the body.
Changing your diet will eliminate the IBS stuff. To permanently and effectively eliminate fungus and parasites you have to change your diet.
I teach clients everyday how to get well without prescriptions, by changing thier lifestyles, habits and diets.
Question: Is FortiFlora probiotic supplement effective in treating cat vomiting? My vet suggested Purina FortiFlora probiotic supplement to treat my cat's chronic vomiting. But when I looked it up online, the product descriptions only specify its use for diarrhea. Is the vet just trying to make a sale or could that actually be an effective treatment for vomiting?
Answer: He's not completely offbase. Probiotics can be used to help with digestive issues. Doesn't necessarily matter which end it's coming out of.
So he's not completely offbase, although probiotics is only one option.
For digestive issues, it's best to find a food that agrees with your cat. Then you don't have to rely on any supplements to provide the basics for him.
But if it comes down to needing something, then you can try probiotics or you can try digestive enzymes. DE's help cats digest all the extra carbs that are put in inferior cat foods.

Probiotics can aid with digestion. They can be useful when dealing with gas or loose stool. Per my new vet, probiotics are a good thing to add to any cat's diet. She recommends using them only 2-3 times per week rather than daily, and not necessarily in the recommended amount (meaning less not more).
When you start using them, you should add just a pinch to the food, and then gradually increase that if the cat is tolerating it without any smelly side effects.
Dosage: I'm not measuring it, but I guess I add about 1/4 tsp. I dispense this 3 days per week.
My vet also suggested varying the brands from time to time. As you finish one bottle, try another.
How to choose: My vet also suggested not using one made for humans only because it may not be the right kind of bacteria. Avoid Saccharomyces boulardii which is from yeast. It should be dairy free, contain more than one type of bacteria, have a high number of organisms and few additives. The first two listed above are the ones I've chosen to use. They were recommended by the users in Whole Cat Health. The other two were also suggested by users of that group, but not as highly.
For digestive enzymes, Dr. Goodpet is a good brand. Get the one that doesn't have lactose. Prozyme is another good one. Actually, this might be the one that has lactose....but there's a variety that doesn't.
Question: Are probiotic supplements safe for toddlers? Can children overdose on probiotics? My one year old has been diagnosed with Clostridium difficile (c. diff.) and the antibiotic he is on, Metronidazole, is not working thus far. I bought a probiotic supplement to help boost his intestinal flora which contains lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus plantarum, lactobacillus bifidum, lactobacillus salivarius, lactobacillus rhamnosus, lactobacillus helveticus, and lactobacillus thermophilus. Is this safe? Can a toddler overdose on probiotics?
Answer: Why aren't you asking his doctor this question?
Question: Does anyone know about a Halal or Kosher or non-gelatin probiotic supplement? I'm looking for a probiotic supplement capsule that is NOT encased in a gelatin casing. My boyfriend is extremely intolerant to pork, and gelatin contains pork traces. He's not actually Jewish or Muslim, I just know that both of these would have no gelatin in them.
Any ideas?
Answer: New Chapters are made from Talapia (fish) gelatin
Solgars are made from Pine gelatin
Made companies made veg caps these days...not all that hard to find in a good sized health food store.
Question: Are probiotic supplements good for IBS?
Answer: Yes. probiotic supplements will help gently scrub your intestines without irritating them. and allow all the matter to move smoothly and prevent further irritation.
