Question: What was the London restaurant in the 1970s called where you paid what you thought the meal was worth? There's a story on AFP about a restaurant called "Little Bay", and AFP is saying this is a "novel idea". But it's not a new idea - that other restaurant did it first, as far as I know, and there's also an Indian restaurant in New York today which does the same thing.
Googling is useless - does anybody remember the name of this 1970s restaurant? It was very popular.
I don't think it was the same one, but well done for finding Just Around The Corner. This one sold up around 1979, and I think was more centrally located.
Answer: I'm not sure if this is the one you're thinking of, but there used to be a restaurant on Finchley Road called 'Just Around The Corner' that let people pay what they thought was fair.
"...it is the only restaurant where YOU decide how much the meal is worth and pay accordingly. No fuss about bills and sharing, you just work it out by yourself and pay at the end. In the 14 years the restaurant has been running the landlord claims he never had a disagreement over a bill. As a result, the service is superb (the waitress has been there for 3 years!)"

Question: How much can a restaurant owner make off of their restaurant in a year? I love food and cooking, and am considering owning and running a restaurant as a possible career. How much money would a restaurant make me in a year if it were moderately priced (10-25 dollars per entree), had a good reputation, and was located in a tourist/resort town? I realize that there are a lot of variables that affect a restaurants profits, I'd just like your best guesses. Any feedback from someone who has experience in this business would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Statistically, chances are you will be broke within five years.
Question: What type of restaurant to go to for one year anniversary? My boyfriend and I have been together for one year on 1st May. We live in the Liverpool area, UK. We are looking for a nice restaurant to go to, to celebrate. Any one local to the area who knows any nice restaurants that would be suitable for the occasion? Or others who have any suggestions on what type of restaurant we should pick?
Thanks
Answer: I live in California, been married for 10 years, I would take my wife(I know you're dating) if it were a one year anniversary...to a restaurant at or near where you both first met. Perhaps down the way a little from where you first met, then you casually take a stroll to where you first met,....yes?

Question: What is a good restaurant with a neon/black light theme for a fraternity dinner? My fraternity has a date party in a couple weeks and we always do a different theme. This one is neon/black light/glow paint. We usually go out to eat and then back to the house for the themed party, and it would be awesome to get a restaurant that matched the theme of the night. Dining in the Dark would be awesome, but I don't think Kansas City has a restaurant. Any restaurants in Kansas City that could somehow work for this would be awesome. Any ideas?
Answer: Maybe you could cater and get what your looking for.
Question: How do i make restaurant style tandoori chicken? I have tried making tandoori chicken from a couple of recipes. problem is that no matter how popular the recipe is, and how hard i follow it, it never tastes like what i get at the indian restaurants. some how none of indian dishes ever turn out restaurant like when following a recipe.
could anyone please tell me what the indian restaurants do? is there a secret ingredient that most of us dont know about?
i dont think the tandoor vs oven issue matters as much as the ingredients do.
Answer: You need a tandoor oven. The closest you might be able to get is to buy a bunch of pizza stones and line your oven.
Question: Can a restaurant quality stove be legally and/or safely used within a home kitchen? I've heard that the lack of a heat shield in restaurant stoves may keep them from being covered by home owner's insurance. How do restaurants work with the lack of heat shield issue? Thanks!
Answer: To use a restaurant oven in home -you must have firewalls surrounding it along with professional venting system overhead -restaurant kitchens are extremely hot -the ovens throw off intense heat -they aren't insulated like home ovens although many professional vendors do make insulated versions for home use now -I'd go that way for safety & comforts sake !
Question: What is a similar restaurant in SF to the restaurant Botega Louie in LA? I went to the restaurant botega louie in downtown LA today and it was amazing. I live in SF and want to go to a restaurant similar for my bday, any suggestions?
Answer: Looking at their huge menu the closest matches I can think of are Rose Pistola or North Beach Restaurant.
Avoid Bucca de Beppo, the food is one step above airline food and life is too short to eat in chain restaurants!
Question: What is the difference between restaurant sour cream and store bought sour cream? In my opinion the sour cream served at restaurants taste way better and is more rich and fresh tasting than the sour cream that we buy from the store? I have been searching for restaurant quality sour cream at stores for a long time now but I can't find any! Do you know where restaurants get their sour creams from? Do they make it fresh themselves? Why does it taste sooo much better and different compared to the sour cream that is store bought?
Answer: I never noticed any difference. Try getting it from a GFS store if you have one (everything's in bulk, similar to Sam's club or Costco). Alot of restaurants go there also.
Question: Pickles served at a Chinese restaurant - trying to figure out where to get the recipe? I went to a Chinese restaurant recently that served (like other restaurants serve bread) pickles along with a dish of crispy wafer-like things. The pickles looked just like regular dill chips but had little red flakes in the mix. I should have asked what they were at the restaurant but I didn't, and I've googled the heck out of it with nothing that matches.
Answer: They are delicious!!
CHINESE COLD GINGER CUCUMBERS:
Ingredients:
2 large green cucumbers
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon grated green ginger
1/2 cup white vinegar
1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
3 tablespoons white sugar
Directions:
Wash and peel cucumbers. Score each cucumber from end to end using the tines of a fork, so that each cucumber has ridges running down it. Slice cucumbers into thin rounds, and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with salt, mix through. Let stand for half an hour. While cucumber is standing, combine vinegar, sugar, crushed red chili flakes and green ginger in a cup. Mix well. When cucumber has stood for half an hour, drain excess liquid. Pour vinegar mixture over, stir through. Chill before serving.

Reminder: I can't do a rainforest or jungle theme.
Thanks!
Answer: You could do a french in a classy way, violins playing in the background, candles.... You know.
